@@timthompson8297 I try to mention cell coverage or include the info in the video description. Sometimes I forget, especially on remote campgrounds like this one.
@@CampgroundRecon That's cool. You still do a fantastic job of showing what the campgrounds look like. I am strongly considering going up to the Durango area soon and was wondering in general if I might find good dispersed camping and get some Verizon service.
We saw a lot of empty campsites in places like this that were off the beaten path. Most people won't take the risk of going this far without a guaranteed reservation
I prefer a decommissioned campground, like this one, over a developed one any time! More likely to have campers who enjoy roughing it a bit with this type of campground, and in turn, less crowded and more remote.
I do disperse camping, less people. Well Up until last year with the country in a tizzy, There were SO many people out there, and when they left, THEY LEFT SUCH A MESS! Trash in camp fires, trash in the woods. It made me SICK, Huge Campers blocking the roads. If you don't know how to CAMP stay off the Park Roads, PACK IT IN PACK IT OUT! RIGHT!! I pray for NO fires this year so we can have CAMP FIRES!!! Those of us WHO RESPECT THE EARTH!! Nice Video I have NOT been down That way IN A LONG TIME!!!
We have a video coming out Thursday of a beautiful campground. Problem is the trailhead across the road attracted 400-600 hikers every day during last summer. It will likely require reservations in the future because of all the trash and human waste left behind. Sad that people don’t know how to act outdoors.
Here's a link to an interactive Google Map of our campground videos: bit.ly/ColoradoCampgroundMap We also added pins for campgrounds we haven't visited as well.
This is our kind of campground for sure!!! Not a lot of people not a lot of noise! All the reasons why we go camping. What lakes are around to fish at? Are there bathrooms there or no? Just curious. Thanks!
There is an older restroom behind site 8. No lakes in the immediate area, just Sig Creek and Hermosa Creek. It's quite and far enough away that it won't be crowded
A little bit of work could make it a nice campground. I found a draft of the plan where they decommissioned it saying they wanted to build a new campground near the trailhead a couple of miles to the west.

This was 2 years ago but if you want to be by your self then it looks like the place to go
I have camped there quite a few times. Love it have cooked a many of grouse and trout over the fire.
Nice off the beaten path site. Very beautiful.

Can't beat the price! I don't mind if I know ahead of arrival. I like to have a few extra supplies on the more remote ones.
This helped me so much thank you for this, heading up Sept 1st for 2 weeks and was looking for something exactly like this!!
Have a great trip!

Thanks for sharing as I am looking for sites around Durango. I’ll be out there in July. Did you encounter any other sites in San Juan NF?

I like this, good find!
Thanks!
I am beginning to regret I didn't go up to Durango from New Mexico instead of going back to Arizona last week.
Next time…
It’s a beautiful area.
Whats your opinion on how dog friendly free campgrounds in Colorado are.?
Colorado is pretty dog friendly as long as they are well behaved and leashed when necessary
@@CampgroundRecon thx for the quick reply.
Looking for free camping right on a lake or river...love to do some boating and fishing...any ideas for this spot?
In the area around this one, it would be creek fishing. A bit of a drive to anything bigger.

The price is definitely right! It's a very pretty area. Do you have any idea why they decommissioned it? Lynn and Danny
I read that the USFS wanted to build a new campground near the trailhead a couple of miles to the west. No signs of it on satellite yet.
4x4 required to get here ?
No. Road isn't too bad to the campground entrance. Might need a little extra clearance inside the campground or go really slow.
It would probably be great in a van, but not my 30 trailer.
A little rough for a long trailer inside the campground
Not a great campground, but sad that they decommissioned it. Better they should have improved some of the campsites.

My guess is that cell phone service at this park is nonexistent.
You are correct.
I prefer not to hear Oh God and bad mouthing. This looks exactly the type of place I will enjoy and she spoiled a good video.
