Great video, one thing about getting black pottery, if you burnish inside and outside your clay pot while its leather wet feeling, then let it dry you'll see its shiny.now when you heat it and fire it after its fired you need to use fresh weeds to smother it. This in turn sucks out the oxygen and carbonized the surfaces. In the end you end up with a shiny black pot and instead of painting you can etch decorations in it to off set the black with the natural fired color of the pottery.
Thanks Tony. I do have highly smudged pots from a few years ago. What I do typically is fill the interior up to the top with fresh pine needles. and place a lid on top of the pot when firing. I notice pine needles will give a deeper black smudged color. I think the Sinagua used Creosote to smudge theirs.
All these videos on youtube and not one has been practical. So what the heck do I use for temper if theres no sand, no seashells? Also I wouldnt have a way to slurry or refine it out in the bush
