And indeed do many lead [others] astray through their [own] inclinations without knowledge. Indeed, your Lord - He is most knowing of the transgressors. (119) 5. وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُ لَفِسْقٌ وَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ لَيُوحُونَ إِلَىٰ أَوْلِيَائِهِمْ لِيُجَادِلُوكُمْ وَإِنْ أَطَعْتُمُوهُمْ إِنَّكُمْ لَمُشْرِكُونَ ﴿الأنعام: ١٢١﴾ And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you. And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be associators [of others with Him]. (121) 6. وَقَالُوا هَـٰذِهِ أَنْعَامٌ وَحَرْثٌ حِجْرٌ لَّا يَطْعَمُهَا إِلَّا مَن نَّشَاءُ بِزَعْمِهِمْ وَأَنْعَامٌ حُرِّمَتْ ظُهُورُهَا وَأَنْعَامٌ لَّا يَذْكُرُونَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا افْتِرَاءً عَلَيْهِ سَيَجْزِيهِم بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْتَرُونَ ﴿الأنعام: ١٣٨﴾ And they say, "These animals and crops are forbidden; no one may eat from them except whom we will," by their claim. And there are those [camels] whose backs are forbidden [by them] and those upon which the name of Allah is not mentioned - [all of this] an invention of untruth about Him. He will punish them for what they were inventing. (138) 7. لِّيَشْهَدُوا مَنَافِعَ لَهُمْ وَيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَّعْلُومَاتٍ عَلَىٰ مَا رَزَقَهُم مِّن بَهِيمَةِ الْأَنْعَامِ فَكُلُوا مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا الْبَائِسَ الْفَقِيرَ ﴿الحج: ٢٨﴾ That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals. So eat of them and feed the miserable and poor. (28) 8. وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ جَعَلْنَا مَنسَكًا لِّيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَىٰ مَا رَزَقَهُم مِّن بَهِيمَةِ الْأَنْعَامِ فَإِلَـٰهُكُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ فَلَهُ أَسْلِمُوا وَبَشِّرِ الْمُخْبِتِينَ ﴿الحج: ٣٤﴾ 8. And for every nation We have appointed a rite [of sacrifice] that they may mention the name of Allah over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals. For your god is one God, so to Him submit. And, [O Muhammad], give good tidings to the humble [before their Lord] (34) 9. وَالْبُدْنَ جَعَلْنَاهَا لَكُم مِّن شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ لَكُمْ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ فَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا صَوَافَّ فَإِذَا وَجَبَتْ جُنُوبُهَا فَكُلُوا مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا الْقَانِعَ وَالْمُعْتَرَّ كَذَٰلِكَ سَخَّرْنَاهَا لَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ﴿الحج: ٣٦﴾ And the camels and cattle We have appointed for you as among the symbols of Allah; for you therein is good. So mention the name of Allah upon them when lined up [for sacrifice]; and when they are [lifeless] on their sides, then eat from them and feed the needy and the beggar. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may be grateful. (36
When an animal is slaughtered in the correct Islamic way the jugular vein is severed but the nervous system remains intact. This means that the brain detects a lack of blood supply coming to it and sends out instructions via the nervous system to the muscles. The muscles are told to squeeze out the blood from them and send it to the brain. However on the way to the brain it leaves the body resulting in very clean meat. When an animal is stunned it may not die but the nervous system is destroyed by the electric shock. Also some blood vessels may burst causing the blood to flow into the meat randomly. When the animal is subsequently slaughtered by cutting the jugular the brain is unable to talk to the muscles because the nervous system has been destroyed. The animal often defecates or urinates because it cannot control it's muscles. The muscles do not squeeze the blood out because they don't receive the instructions, so the blood is retained within the meat contrary to the purpose of Halal slaughter. Many diseases are carried in the blood and so expelling the blood is of paramount importance. Islamic practice is so logical that it could only have come from the all knowing Almighty Allah.

Let's be fair, even in muslim country we don't know in certainty that the meats on the market were properly slaughtered or not. But, people don't ask. We just give benefit of the doubts to the sellers. It works for jew or christian country too. Allah has made halal for us the meats they slaughter. What we need to do is giving benefit of the doubt to the sellers, unless we know in certainty that those meats were not slaughtered properly. Allah knows best.

A lot of haram meat is being passed off as halal. For example, meat certified by HFA. But this agency allows stunning prior to slaughter. This is haram. The only genuine halal meat agency in UK is HMC.

Scholars have made idjtihad relating to the problems of mass demands. Stun to stun (low voltage) then hand slaughtered has been deemed permissible.
