  • Nystagmus is a general term that refers to involuntary eye movements often associated with dizziness and vertigo. Different types of nystagmus are indicators of certain underlying conditions, so checking for nystagmus is often one of the first tests a doctor may perform when trying to make a diagnosis.
    If you're currently experiencing dizziness or vertigo and looking for more information, try this test first, and then check out the rest of our playlist for more tests plus different maneuevers that can actually cure certain types of vertigo!

      Hello! I'm not sure what could've caused my nystagmus. I've learnt that nystagmus could be caused by an inflammation in the inner ear. My parents told me that when I was a baby I had inflammation in my inner ear and I got it fully treated. The first time I experienced nystagmus was at the age of 6-7 years, ever since then, it had stopped. But it appeared once again about a year ago and it rarely happens. (I'm currently 11). Ever since it happened again to me, I noticed that it was mainly caused by my head being in a specific angle. But the first time I experienced nystagmus, it wasn't because of my head being in a specific angle. It usually doesn't happens to me unless my head meets at that specific angle

      Virus like a cold can cause ear problems like Vestibular neuritis vs. labyrinthitis. But BBPV is different and the crystals get dislodged which creates vertigo w certain head movements. A physical therapist or ENT or you if you learn can reset them w certain kinds of head sequencing mvmts.

      Please see an ENT doctor, what you describe is vestibular migraines, it’s vertigo with migraines and also a BPV, known as benign posterior vertigo. Both are Separate issues, but you can have both. Benign posterior vertigo is dizziness that only lasts about a minute and then it goes away and it only happens when your head turns a certain direction you also get nystagmus during the episode. You have to get your crystals in your ears reset.

    • @Doppelgangergr
      @Doppelgangergr 4 года назад +4

      Although a symptom of the eyes, nystagmus occurs as a symptom from diseases affecting areas in our body that control balance.
      They can be diseases of the inner ear or diseases of the nervous system.
      It can present alongside other symptoms, such as vertigo, loss of balance and falls, diminished hearing and others.
      Also there are different types of nystagmus, each with unique characteristics.
      Taking all those symptoms into account one should see either an ENT or a neurologist.
      Lasik or glasses will not treat it (although there is a slight nystagmus in myopia sometimes, but, it is mostly a manifestation of the diseases mentioned above).
