I don't think the cypethud is doing too well. How long would it have taken to make a variant on the 3? I'm betting there are quite a few people who don't need a minivan that does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, but just need accessible space. I know if a 3 hatch was available I would have purchased it in a heartbeat.

Removed turn stalks will also cause EURO NCAP safety rating to drop. Any sane company would therefor not remove stalks at least for Europe (which has a gazillion roundabouts where the stalks suck big time) Which means Musk will do it anyway.

    • @Ryan256
      @Ryan256 26 дней назад +1

I disagree-I think it should be extreme. The ultra luxury car market is smaller, and if Tesla wants to corner that market the Roadster has to be way better than anything on the market.
If it can do 0-60 in under 1 second, nobody else will be able to claim to be faster than the Model S Plaid by 0.1 second. If it’s undisputedly faster than everything, every celebrity will buy one and the other rich folks will follow.
Low volume, high margin, best of the best.
I can’t afford one, but I think they should shoot for the moon! Even if it’s $400k but it can beat the most expensive combustion super car, then it’s game over for gasoline.
It will only be released when it’s an undisputed hardcore smackdown to internal combustion cars. That’s how it should be. It will be the flex of all flexes.
If you have $50,000 to drop on a deposit for $250,000+ car, then congratulations and good for you. I’m not going to shed any tears over you waiting for the best car in the world. 😂
I just bought a 2024 Model 3 Long Range and I absolutely love it! I waited 6 years to buy this car and I’m glad I waited until now because they finally have it dialed in to perfection.
I’ve only had it for a week and I’m already falling into the normal trap of human psychology-instead of being satisfied with my amazing car that is mind blowing to my friends and family, I’m already trying to decide between the Model 3 performance or Model S for my next car.
To anybody with a deposit on the Roadster, trust me-it’s worth the wait!
Humans always want more, even if we already have the best. When you get your Roadster, there will literally not be a better car in the entire world.
At that point, you’ll have to self-reflect on the meaning of life and what truly makes you happy, because even infinite money won’t be able to buy you a better car! 😂🤣 🚀

I’m used to Elon’s hyperbole, and accept it. He still has delivered the best and easiest to live with EV fleet on the market. 5 vehicles in the current lineup and each of them best in class for EVs, especially when factoring in the supercharger network. There's no way robotaxi will "take cars off the road". Currently, the cars are only on the road when moving people, but robotaxi will be also be on the road when empty. Also while cars usually carry one or two passengers, they can accommodate 4-7 (depending on vehicle) and robotaxi can not. So that also adds some more cars on the road.
There may be fewer cars needed in total and there may be a reduced need for parking spaces, but there'll be more cars on the road.

Tesla and Musk probably hurt their licensing abilities when they fired the supercharger team and delayed NACS access for all the automakers that made deals with Tesla. That had to have really affected other companies’ faith in Tesla being able to deliver and uphold their ends of deals, which would make them cautious to sign another deal with Tesla and probably bring the price they’re willing to pay down due to the uncertainty

No worries, it won't become reality anytime soon. Robotaxies would mean it would have to be certified as being able to be fully autonomous. Tesla has NO certification about any level of autonomy. Mercedes has level 3 but only under a million limiting factors. But they'll take responsibility if you have a problem. Tesla would have to do the same which they can't because FSD, while driving much more impressively than Mercedes' limited system, will crash you in an unforseen event and Tesla will just tell you it was a beta and your fault that you relied on the system.

@@agentred8732I’ve seen videos and I think it’s getting there, but there are some scenarios I still worry about if there are no human controls. For example, driving down a street with parallel parking. I can see a kid running off the sidewalk, disappearing between two parked trucks, and I can intuit that the kid will likely run out from between the trucks into the street and I can slow down or stop. But I’m not sure Tesla FSD understands that. It may see pedestrian on sidewalk then pedestrian gone. It has superior reflexes for when the kid re-appears but it will carry a higher speed into that situation and sometimes reflex speed can’t beat physics.
Similarly, we can pick up on a lot of cues from other drivers that the technology can’t at this point.
I’m looking forward to self-driving cars being ubiquitous (if only for selfish reasons) but there are still a lot of uncommon encounters that I’m concerned still merit a human being able to take control, or at least set a speed decrease.

Robo taxis won’t take vehicles off the road. The numbers of cars on the road is determined by the number of trips required and how many of those can be handled by the same vehicles. Unless you get people to share robo taxis the number of miles driven and traffic density will actually increase as robo taxis drive to pick up their next fairs. What will decline is the numbers of parking spaces required all over the country.

Why do you use the phrase "taking vehicles off the road"? If the so-far-hypothetical robotaxis rack up a lot of miles, that will reduce the total number of vehicles. But it won't reduce the number of vehicles on the road, since the robotaxis will presumably only be used for rides that someone would otherwise be doing themself. What robotaxis may be able to do is reduce the number of needed parking spaces. Only mass transit (or, to a lesser extent, ride sharing) can reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

While in theory it may reduce the number of actual vehicles produced (maybe), this idea that it will actually reduce the number of cars on the road at any given time is dead wrong. Taxis drive upwards of 50% of their time empty. That’s why many large downtowns have Taxi stands (to reduce congestion). The most efficient use of available roadway capacity is to have the individuals who will be in the vehicle to only use the vehicle when they actually need it. While this increases the number of actual cars produced, as long as you have adequate storage (parking), there is 100% efficiency when actually using the road infrastructure.

  • @jful

I don't understand how robo taxis will take cars off the road. I can see how they'd reduce the need for parking facilities and the number of cars in general but if you take a trip with your own car or a robo taxi that's still the same amount of cars physically on the road isn't it?
I'm sure I'm missing something though because I've heard it mentioned a few times when it comes to robo taxis but i don't quite get it.
EDIT: just to be clear i think there is a lot of value in the idea still, i just don't understand this specific claim.

So let's say there's 30 people on a bus but robo's become so cheap that all of them take 30 robo's, well now you went from one big bus to 30 cars all navigating the same road

One imagines if vehicles are utilised for most of the day by different people there’ll be fewer vehicles required by the population because fewer people will buy their own car. If people have to pay for each journey they’ll be less likely to do frivolous journeys or just go for a ride. On the other hand trains and buses might be less popular.

I didn't like the stalkless option but still purchased new M3 a few days ago. They did the free FSD transfer, that was the main reason. I do miss indicating the turning signals at times or click the wrong one, but it isn't as bad as long as you approach it with an open mind and just accept it. Many options are gone compared to my 2018 M3, again, it's a matter of accepting it. Never say never, I used to say I would never get this version, eating my own words. 2024 M3 is clearly better than the old one in many ways. One thing that is truly missing is a front bumper camera, with no ultrasonic sensors, it's limiting in some use cases (garage). One caveat, if you have issues with thumbs, tremor, arthritis, etc. you have a bit of hard time hitting those turn signals, etc. Since I drive close to 100% on FSD, it's not as critical, but something to note. Here in Utah turn signals seem to be optional for most Utahns, but a friend of mine did get a ticket for a "late" turn signal. Go figure. The weirdest thing for me, indicating the right signal is natural, do it automatically, but I often have to think for a second when clicking the left one (bottom button). Guess, I'll just make right turns only from now on. Or re-train my own neural net to get used to it. Time will tell.
