You could be the Best parent ever and it could still happen to your kid. It's just that some are stronger than others and that's nothing to be ashamed of either. But Indio's family, especially his mother, knew how addiction could ruin a person's life from the beginning. However, he still fell into it. He didn't get the guts and resistance RDJ had.

And plenty of incredible parents have kids with mental illnesses or kids who try drugs or make any other number of mistakes. Well for one, that’s not how that works. You cannot ‘nature over nurture’ a genetic heart condition. The same is said for a genetic brain condition (mental illness) like addiction. It really doesn’t matter if you ‘buy’ it or not, it’s been a well proven scientific fact for a long time now.
