It's a Nimitz class carrier, the same size as the Nimitz. All the carriers (except for the Enterprise, JFK and Kitty Hawk) are Nimitz class and are the same size as each other.
I saw this programme a few years ago. I remember the captain was welcoming some new recruits and he said the Ronald Reagan had an extension to the flight deck added to the front of the carrier which made them largest in its class.
I served aboard the Midway in the late 70's as a M.S. (Mess Specialist) there was no "solid waste disposal" on board. ALL food trash was thrown overboard @ the "sponson." You could see sharks & other denizens of the deep circling behind the ship for handouts.
I am currently serving aboard the Reagan and they have definatley become more "Eco-Friendly" With the trash. We now seperate everything and break it down. Its a bit of a pain to be honest.
Same on the USS America. Anything that was perishable or biodegradable went overboard. I used to enjoy throwing stuff overboard and watching it hit the water.
Was on the Midway 76-78 in 1st division.. Did mess cooking also. We never ate off of plates, the steel trays. Worked the scullery. Fun times! Was also on the Midway when we swapped with the Independence in 1991 in Hawaii.
That food looks really good. Rumor has it that the U.S Coast Guard eats pretty well at sea too especially the icebreakers assigned to the real pain in the ass places.
Whenever I watch documentaries about the USAs armed forces and read the comments of veterans it always strikes me that a lot of Navy personnel seem to have served for 4 years, is this because of the pressure of life at sea?, the length of service allowed for at sea sailors? Or just coincidental? I served for 24years in the RAF and whilst I can’t say that I enjoyed every minute, far from it in fact, but the good times outweighed the bad considerably, and I wouldn’t change it for a minute, so when I see so many 4 year veterans I have to wonder why. Don’t think I am being derogatory towards the United States Navy, or any USA military, I am genuinely interested. When I joined up in 1979 the minimum term you could serve was 3 years, not even long enough to be trained and settle into military life in my opinion, and I believe that term has since been removed and longer terms are the norm with a long reserve service as well. As I did 22years reckon-able service and 2 years for Queen and country (I joined up just after my 16th birthday so they got the first two years FOC, Free Off Charge) I didn’t have a reserve service commitment and got my pension straight away, I know the system has changed but wondered how the USA military terms of service worked. Thanks for an excellent and informative film, wish it had been a little longer but still entertaining. 👍
I was onboard for two of these TV specials, They spent like 3 minutes total on our whole Department (OPS i.e. the brains of the ship). I know the ship exists for aircraft, but come on.
Not sure about the Chinese captions but I'm sure they have learned something on how to run and manage a giant aircraft carrier. Take it from the United States Navy.
Well, "a" (as in one) gym isn't right. There are six or seven...depending on what you count as a gym, I guess. Let's say seven places to work out with multiple exercise equipment, weights and so forth.
Yeah ok, good is definitely a necessity I get it. But take away internet, email and phones. Cut outside communication for any amount of time and pull what's more important.
food looks good in the army early 80s breakfast was good we had a choice i got a 3egg ham&cheese omelet & hash browns made to order dinner had a grill line dbl cheeseburger &fries we burned off calories at 0530 PT monkey drills followed by a 6 mi run every day at ft hood 1980 G-btry 333 ADA 2nd AD
@fsnvret There goes 3 billion dollars and 6000 lives and a nuked ocean. These vids are bragging how powerful a carrier is. In a war game pitting one US Fast Attack Sub (280 feet long, 4000 tons) against a US 1100 foot long, 97,000 ton carrier, all the sub has to do is use Passive Sonar and a Ahead Slow makes a super quiet attack approach and one torpedo to the engine room, sea water in the nuke and Ka-BOOM!!! The carrier don't know what hit it!!! I think the submarine will win every time.
oh yeah how do u explain 6 first classes died on dis damn ship..how do u explain multiple nuclear malfunction.need i remind u australia? Food is ok on diz damn boat.
Weakness is a temptation that tempts the pugnacious to assert themselves. Strength however is a declaration that cannot be misunderstood. You build a military to prepare for war but preserve the peace. When a Navy aircraft carrier is floating around and "do nothing" but "wasting money" they are doing their job. Would you rather they were floating around fighting 24/7 like they were designed to do? Of course not. Stop being ignorant.
I served aboard the USS Guadalcanal when I was in the Marine Corps from 1989 to 1993 I really miss that ship
It's a Nimitz class carrier, the same size as the Nimitz. All the carriers (except for the Enterprise, JFK and Kitty Hawk) are Nimitz class and are the same size as each other.
I was on the USS Nimitz when we and the Reagan were both ported at NASNI at Coronado island. It's the exact layout
I ported in Brisbane during Australian Day 2006. You guys are the friendliest. Sydney and Perth by far the best ports for Yanks in the Pacific.
Kudos to the culinary artists who keep the bellies full and hearts happy on the long trip at sea.
They should install safety rails around the deck to prevent someone from falling off.
THANKS for this video. I'm always curious about how it is on board these ships. My fantasy is to take a tour on one of these ships.
If you know Navy personnel, they can escort you, when we are homeport
I saw this programme a few years ago. I remember the captain was welcoming some new recruits and he said the Ronald Reagan had an extension to the flight deck added to the front of the carrier which made them largest in its class.
Served on USS Semmes DDG 18, USS Cape Cod AD 43, USS Kinkaid DD 965, USS Whidbey Island LSD 41, and USS Wasp LHD 1.
Amazing the change. 1971-1974 USS Intrepid we tossed all garbage off the fantail.
the inner workings... they all do a great job on these super carriers.thanks from UK
Son, "Dad what did you do during the war."....dad, "the laundry."
1.50 very small and cramped living quarters. But does anyone knows if the pilots and officers have bigger rooms/living quarters?
I believe they do, they're generally kept up higher, pilots usually up near the deck and hangar of course. Providing they still follow that basis.
We never had bed sheets when I was in. Just our uniform that they would do out at sea. These sailors have it made.
We were allowed sleeping bags to put on top of you wanted, I did it
I served aboard the Midway in the late 70's as a M.S. (Mess Specialist) there was no "solid waste disposal" on board. ALL food trash was thrown overboard @ the "sponson." You could see sharks & other denizens of the deep circling behind the ship for handouts.

Same on the USS America. Anything that was perishable or biodegradable went overboard. I used to enjoy throwing stuff overboard and watching it hit the water.
I was on the Big E during the same time. and we had the same situation. And the eco system lived anyway.
Was on the Midway 76-78 in 1st division.. Did mess cooking also. We never ate off of plates, the steel trays. Worked the scullery. Fun times! Was also on the Midway when we swapped with the Independence in 1991 in Hawaii.
Are we polluting the oceans by throwing the trash into sea? A swirl of plastic in the Pacific the size of Texas-not good.
This is an AWESOME ship! BRAVO! I envy those who can live and work there!
my uncle Vic was on USS Enterprise during world war 2.
In those days, it was a lot tougher.
interesting video. Certainly worth it to spend some years in the Navy.
The ships are so large and so easy to get lost. I was on the Enterprise 2 different times.
Dave Schwartz ever get lost?
When I was on the USS America I got lost a few times during my first month on board. It didn't take too long to figure out my way around though.
Dave Schwartz so was I but only once, 1977 . I never seen the whole ship. Dave what years were you on 65?
Dats my old ship kinda miss those days man..airman Powell
I think I remember you vaguely. I was on from 05-08.
“Most people work 12 hours per day, 7 days per week”. Hasn’t a lack of breaks been shown to reduce productivity?
That food looks really good. Rumor has it that the U.S Coast Guard eats pretty well at sea too especially the icebreakers assigned to the real pain in the ass places.
I'm proud of y'all guys ,even those I'm not American ,but I have to say the true ,USA is the firs country on the world
Thanks, what country are you from by the way? Its good that we a our allies like you.
HAZMAT FireGuy I'm from Haiti bro I'm proud of about us military, they doing a great job they are really brave I loves them so much
SO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS YOU CANT WAIT TO GET HERE AND ENJOY THE ENTITLEMENTS !!!!
why are there bars (1:45) on the U.S. Post Office window? Are they afraid of getting robbed?
Really wow, let me know how you get on..good luck mate
Wish him a safe journey!
Gosh, food would be so important for morale in this situation.
You`re probably right, you`ve guys actually have been or are on the ship i`ve just seen it in some national geographic specials :-)
Back in the 80’s when I was aboard the older boats like the uss America cv 66 we just through all the garbage overboard called sponson 6
Whenever I watch documentaries about the USAs armed forces and read the comments of veterans it always strikes me that a lot of Navy personnel seem to have served for 4 years, is this because of the pressure of life at sea?, the length of service allowed for at sea sailors? A lot of U.S. Military (all branches) personnel serve 4 years to get college money, then get out. Many of them never plan on serving any longer.
In the old days we used to put the trash in plastic bags and dump it off the fantail.
I was onboard for two of these TV specials, They spent like 3 minutes total on our whole Department (OPS i.e. the brains of the ship). I know the ship exists for aircraft, but come on.
Can't agree with you more. I'm currently on it right now and I can't stand the damn ship.
Thank all of you and God bless for keeping us safer.
salute to those men and women serving their nation
They serve the Rich!
wow , huge ship i did my shift on a tin can back in the 70's
LOVE THE AIRCRAFT CARRIERS
Very informative video. Y'all come home safe from your current deployment.
Not sure about the Chinese captions but I'm sure they have learned something on how to run and manage a giant aircraft carrier. Take it from the United States Navy.
I'll NEVER dread doing my laundry again.
I know its big but is this the biggest one going.Enterprise and Nimitz were big in their day but surely new ones are not so big!
I have to respect sailors and Marines on ships. The living quarters for junior enlisted is CRAMPED to say the least!
This is amazing!
It IS a 'small town" with everything you'd find in a small town.
Well, "a" (as in one) gym isn't right. There are six or seven...depending on what you count as a gym, I guess. Let's say seven places to work out with multiple exercise equipment, weights and so forth.
On the enterprise we had only one gym with a free weight, and a bag only . 1977.
I want work at carrier ship...
They really are. Just the pretty picture they'll allow. The people who actually work tend to either not make it to mess or are too dirty to eat!
God Bless him and please thank him for serving :)
thats where i live =(
God bless the Reagan ♥️
2005 we had year old mayo!
Where Reagan aircraft carriers get it own day to day use of fresh water from??????
Volunteer prison.
Yeah ok, good is definitely a necessity I get it. But take away internet, email and phones. Cut outside communication for any amount of time and pull what's more important.
A CPO gets his clothes ironed?? Jesus....smh
John Thom damn, chiefs got it good
Imagine what the officers get???
On the Midway PO1's got there uniforms ironed also.
such a great ship
The food does suck
Some Sailors. Not everyone needs that.
No recycling of plastic no way, that should be a crime
+mike johnson 7:27 plastic is recycled.
We never had women on ships when i was in. I imagine there is a lot of fucking going on in the voids, etc.
I hope those Chinese 'aircraft-carrier killer' missiles and Russian hypersonic anti-ship cruise missiles are never used.
my brother is on this ship
Can you imagine what would happen if the enemy sank one of our carriers.
It would take another major power to do that so likely a world war where lots of people would die.
Daytona Sixty-Eight or just a small swedish submarine
food looks good in the army early 80s breakfast was good we had a choice i got a 3egg ham&cheese omelet & hash browns made to order dinner had a grill line dbl cheeseburger &fries we burned off calories at 0530 PT monkey drills followed by a 6 mi run every day at ft hood 1980 G-btry 333 ADA 2nd AD
Wtf is the captions? Korean?..again wtf?
@TheNinerfan87 very true living with 6,000 people fuck that i'd rather just work on a destroyer with about 400 people and proper food!
good luck and best wishes to you but i hope the military teaches you the English language
Wow wow this fleet so Amazin ,I fucking love usa
Noncent did you considered going on board the ship, and find out what it is like.?
Hope to be there for real but I don't any chance of it ,i will always loves them gob bless them
They eat way too good. Military life shouldn't be a picnic
someday, im going to join the US Navy
Is that what they call a night life??LOL!!
Patrick Maynard is my stepdad no lie
shitty old ships that have a crucial design flaw!!
Maybe to keep people out when they aren't looking. There is theft on the ship.
@fsnvret There goes 3 billion dollars and 6000 lives and a nuked ocean. These vids are bragging how powerful a carrier is. I WAS A GODDAAMN COOK IN THE NAVY
Logan Dew = goddess at 1:45
@satojinnthehero
double the watches and twice the work with half the people. and the food still sucks.
logan dew is the bomb!
That's a pretty hateful comment, why would you post something like that?
to not enlist, for the love of God.
fuck yeh! REAGANS BACK! KICKIN ASS N TAKIN MIDDLE EASTERN SOUNDING NAMES!
Oh
I wanna be on this ship looks like a fun experience :-) am i right?.... I think i am
WESTERN. BLVD. LA

They do. They're treated like goddam royalty.
SA2112 ya but they work 12 hours a day 7 days a week
Hmmm ussrr
It sucks... I suggest you desire to be somewhere else. I'm currently stationed there and everyday, I'm losing my sanity.
no.
Women in the Navy is and has always been a fucking mistake.
omg this is a lie...they barley do inspections...and its really not that bad lmao!! oh wow haha
They said protect the USA from whom?naw just waste our money
You are ignorant AF.
