I wouldn't know much about being IN love since I'm only 16 but loving someone in and of itself... no, it doesn't need a reason. For example, I love my parents but I don't have a reason to, I just do.
So, I guess you could say that love is the reason! XD

Love is a very complex emotion. In fact, it is so complicated, the Greeks actually had six different words for love.
    Eros, or sexual passion.
    Philia, or deep friendship.
    Ludus, or playful love.
    Agape, or love for everyone.
    Pragma, or longstanding love.
Philautia, or love of the self.
The love that you speak of in this video seems to be a combination between Eros and Pragma, and a little Ludus (but I'm not one to say the Greeks were right about everything, and I personally feel that "true love" does not need Eros at all).
Love, except perhaps the Eros kind, does not need a reason. In all the different ways I have experienced it, it has never needed one. Sure, there are reasons that someone would be spurred to create a connection with someone, but the love itself does not come from this reason.
For example, you may have a close friend that is very dear to you. There may be a very good reason why you became friends, but the connection you made, if strong enough, can withstand a lot more than is logical.
Deep, true romantic love can weather the worst times in a relationship, and come out on the other side stronger than ever.
Agape, the love for everyone, is strong with me, but there is no reason at all for me to have it. I can love people who are horrible to me, even if I never get anything positive from them at all.
While I have not been in a relationship, the subject of love has interested me greatly.
I am more of a person to pursue deep friendships than romantic attention, and while I have never been averse to romance, I just have not met a person that I had a deep enough connection with.
So no, love never needs a reason, but love often is the reason for many things.
(And now this text box is filling my entire screen, so I'm going to stop now before I write an essay.)

    • @allenholloway5109
      @allenholloway5109 7 лет назад +7

Although, other sources have only four loves attributed to the Greeks (oddly, with one of them not in my previous list)
Here is a brief explanation from Wikipedia:
Agápe (ἀγάπη agápē[1]) means "love: esp. charity; the love of God for man and of man for God."[2] Agape is used in ancient texts to denote feelings for one's children and the feelings for a spouse, and it was also used to refer to a love feast.[3] Agape is used by Christians to express the unconditional love of God for his children.[4] This type of love was further explained by Thomas Aquinas as "to will the good of another."[5]
Éros (ἔρως érōs) means "love, mostly of the sexual passion."[6] The Modern Greek word "erotas" means "intimate love." Plato refined his own definition: Although eros is initially felt for a person, with contemplation it becomes an appreciation of the beauty within that person, or even becomes appreciation of beauty itself. Plato does not talk of physical attraction as a necessary part of love, hence the use of the word platonic to mean, "without physical attraction." In the Symposium, the most famous ancient work on the subject, Plato has Socrates argue that eros helps the soul recall knowledge of beauty, and contributes to an understanding of spiritual truth, the ideal "Form" of youthful beauty that leads us humans to feel erotic desire - thus suggesting that even that sensually based love aspires to the non-corporeal, spiritual plane of existence; that is, finding its truth, just like finding any truth, leads to transcendence.[7] Lovers and philosophers are all inspired to seek truth through the means of eros.
Philia (φιλία philía) means "affectionate regard, friendship," usually "between equals."[8] It is a dispassionate virtuous love, a concept developed by Aristotle.[9] In his best-known work on ethics, Nicomachean Ethics, philia is expressed variously as loyalty to friends (specifically, "brotherly love"), family, and community, and requires virtue, equality, and familiarity. Furthermore, in the same text philos denotes a general type of love, used for love between family, between friends, a desire or enjoyment of an activity, as well as between lovers.
Storge (στοργή storgē) means "love, affection" and "especially of parents and children"[10] It's the common or natural empathy, like that felt by parents for offspring.[11] Rarely used in ancient works, and then almost exclusively as a descriptor of relationships within the family. It is also known to express mere acceptance or putting up with situations, as in "loving" the tyrant. This is also used when referencing the love for ones country or a favorite sports team.
      (Yeah right... brief.)

  • @EveryDayALittleDeath

I don't think love needs a reason. Well, maybe sometimes it does, but not always. And then there are those times when you fall in love for no real reason, but later discover all sorts of reasons for it. As for Valentine's Day, I think it's very over-hyped and a lot of people put waaaay to much stock into it. But if you keep it low-key, I think it's a sweet holiday for couples to do special things for each other. Also, despite being single for way too long, I still love Valentine's Day as it means discount chocolate everywhere on the 15th.

Love at first sight= the first time a mother holds her baby after birth. There's this weird chemical thing that happens that suddenly makes it all worth it.

    • @sion8
      @sion8 8 лет назад +4

Actually, endorphins start kicking in as the labor process starts and as the mother completes the process a rush of them fill the brain usually making a pair-bond for life, funny the last part can make the memory of the pain from labor disappeared which may otherwise stop the bonding process.

"Does love need a reason?" really is such an interesting question, though I'm thinking about it more on a societal level than on a personal level. I think that there are kinds/stages of relationships when "because I love them" becomes an acceptable response without further justification. Close family is the first type that comes to mind; no one ever asks you to justify why you love your parents/siblings/family. Of course, close friends/romantic partners may also eventually fall under the same rule if a certain set of conditions are deemed to be met (such as knowing them for a long time, communicating often, being engaged/married, etc.).
Valentines Day is a thing because we've made it a thing. It's got a day on the calendar and iconography that we all recognize so there's really no use trying to question its validity as an event (I wouldn't really call it a holiday). On a personal level, I used to be quite bitter about its existence, but now I'm pretty neutral. I'll let the people in relationships negotiate its importance on their relationships while I stay home and watch RUclips or something :P

I don't think love needs a reason, but it almost always does have a reason.
Additionally, I HATE Valentine's Day. There's nothing special about February 14th that makes it a better day to love one's significant other than any other day of the year. It's a completely arbitrary day, in which couples pull out all the stops because it's Valentine's Day, and they don't want their partner to be unimpressed. Therefore, couples show relatively less affection during the rest of the year, decreasing the amount of happiness they could have. Valentine's Day is an arbitrary vacuum cleaner of love causing the most affection to be spent then, instead of days that are actually important to couples. Valentine's Day is a scam.

If you ask me, Valentine's Day is somewhere between a total sham and legit holiday.
I mean, if you're not currently in love when Valentine's Day comes around, there really isn't any point to it.
On the other hand, love is a really important thing; we can't really live without it.
Of course, that's just the opinion of some single teenager, so I'm not exactly an expert on this topic.

    "Does love need a reason?"
Tricky question, because a) if it does need a "reason" i.e. an end other than itself it isn't love as usually defined but b) if it's for "no reason" that makes it baseless, random and silly--and so we confuse love with infatuation.
I remember Cicero saying "They are the best of friends who need each other least." (which is a pretty novel notion for us, living in an age dominated by the social contract paradigm, where need is not only natural but necessary in relationship formation).
They say we don't choose who we love, but we do. Love is not driven by need (the romantic addiction which people mistake it for notwithstanding) but by will. Which is to say, we choose people whom we feel we can be devoted to for their own sake. We make commitments and we stick to them for as long as the relationship lasts. When it ends (and they all end), if you've managed to do it civilly and remain friends that is a sign that what you've cultivated in that interval actually was love. If your reaction is "I hate you and want to see you struck by a bus driven by a bear drunk on cheep vodka", chances are you were in the needy-infatuated category.
PS I know it's been a while since you posted this, but I just dug you up, so bear with me. Nice channel.

I have a friend who I care for very much, but doubt it will ever go past that. He hates having a girlfriend on Valentines Day and honestly I can't fully fault him on his reason... His first really serious girlfriend came to see him on Valentines Day and barely got out a hi, before asking what they were doing. She was disappointed an a little angry that he hadn't gotten her anything at all. He took her out to lunch and she couldn't stop talking about what her friend got for Valentines day and how he should of gotten her something too. He took her home afterword and their relationship didn't last much longer... You may be wondering why this date bothered him so much. Well here's the answer, his Birthday is February 14th and not once did she say "Happy Birthday" to him, instead only cared about what she did or didn't get. This has happened more then once to him, but this first time hurt him deeply.

Love can have so many sources like love for a significant other or for family and friends or even an object but the love for these has a reason like they make you happy, their people your close to or a thing that matter loads to you or you got it from an amazing trip or store or even from someone. If the question is asking, does a love have a reason, then yes because love is a feeling or an experience that comes in so many ways and emotions and these other ways of 'love' have a reason and they're mostly to do with personality or a passion and if it didn't have a reason then everybody would be in love with everybody and everything which will just be wierd but if it's asking do people love for a reason then that really depends on the person whether if it's for selfish reasons or someone who has unconditional love but if it where for a selfish reason you could argue that it's not actually love because it's not deeply and soulfully felt.

Valentine's Day is a cute but unnecessary capitalistic holiday. I love how people are thoughtful and cute to each other and I have no problem with being single on Valentine's Day, but I still think it's just another proof that we love to spend a lot of money on people we appreciate, which is kind of weird.
Heyaah, though for the people who just cook dinner for their significant other or show their love in another unique way and not through roses and chocolate :D

Valentine's Day is a tricky day...for couples, it's all "Yaay, I love you so much!" and "Here's the $30 box of chocolates and $25 bouquet of roses I bought you, because sometimes love does have a price!" and "You forgot Valentine's Day! I thought you loved me!" - so it's sort of declines depending on the couple...and for single people it's either "I'm single, I'm proud! I don't need no man/woman!" or "I am so alone" so you know...it's like if you are in love and they love you back, or if you are perfectly in love with yourself then the holiday is amazing! if not....ehhh it just emphasizes the lack of love :(

    Does love need a reason?
Well, this question can be interpreted two ways:
    1) What purpose does love have in this world?
Love provides a source of unity, through unity comes strength.
    2) Do you need a reason to be attracted to a certain person?
Well, I mean, something had to trigger that attraction, right? So....yes?

I think, personally love does need a reason. Well at first not really. I'm talking about the stage called the honeymoon phase. The butterfly's in my stomach, blushing cheeks, and shaking hands. Now this can be confused with a crush but you can defiantly have this while the beginning stages of being in love. Then there's the comfortableness. You've know eachother so long, butterfly's are fading, and the relationship starts getting boring. This is the part where love probubly needs a reason. I know so many people who are always like "well the sparks gone" but love is working to love eachother every day. Not meaning it won't be boring or frustrating sometimes it's just the fact that love is knowing that the person you are with is going to change, and so are you. It's being able to effect eachother in a positive way enough that when you do change as people it'll be for the better of both of you. This probubly makes no sense and I'm on 2 hours of sleep for the last fourty-eight hours so mind my spelling and grammar.

Does love need a reason... Hmm. An interesting question. Love is a reaction within us, so if you truly like someone and you think you may have a future, then you should pursue it. But then you are trying to reach an end goal of a happy future. You may date someone because you just because you like them and want some experience. But then you're trying to get experience as an end goal! Oi...
Well, if you really love someone and want to spend time with them, then you should go with the relationship, whether or not it is for an end goal.

As I have watched these older videos and heard the 'see you in another life' explanation I can now pose a second theory. You have said Super Carlin Brothers is supposed to be a nod to Super Mario Brothers. In those games, you have multiple lives. SO! Perhaps each video is it's own 'life' and when it ends you 'die' and restart with a new 'life.' Thus, 'I will see you in another life, brother.'
Annnnd... that made more sense in my head.

Not sure about the first one... as far as relationships go, at first I think that you like to think about the reasons you love them and kind of assess why you are in the relationship (and therefore what you want to get out of the relationship and approximately how long it will last) but once you get super committed and have been together for a long time, I think you would sort of love the person, not because of any particular reason, but just because, and that because would sum up so many experiences and memories and characteristics that you really couldn't put into words, so the reason would sort of become "because life/everything" and at that point I think that if the reason is such a huge reason, then it sort of ceases to be a reason, so I guess eventually, no. But what do I know, I've never been in a relationship :)
As far as the second question, I don't really think that Valentine's Day is a holiday, but at this point it is so big that even if it was like removed from calendars or whatever, people would still do it, so you can't really "un-holiday" it...

The does love last 3 years thing -- the /initial/ part of love does indeed last only three years (research has shown this)... well, it peters out over the first three years. That's when all the initial happy "in love" feelings will have gone. Almost every couple will hit some kind of bump in the road around this time, and for many, that bump will break them up. After that you are generally completely in the land of "I love you because I choose to love you (to show love to you) and not because you are lovable", until you break through into the genuinely operating symbiotically, building a life together, kind of love. My opinion is that, if you are wise, three years is a long enough period of time to go ahead and get married and to establish some good habits that will help you keep going once that rough patch hits. Sacrificing for your partner feels easy, often almost rewarding, at the beginning, but it feels much harder, much more miserable, much more like an actual sacrifice when you're three years in. And it's so easy in the early days to think that you don't need to put in actual work in a relationship because things are so good between you anyway! And why not just enjoy it? But the more you just coast on these good feelings in the early days, the harder the three-year road bump will hit you -- the more likely you are to break up.

  • @CullenShaeAnne
    @CullenShaeAnne 8 лет назад

I think love itself can create a reason. Why would you work towards marriage or having children if you are not in love? I think itself is the reason people work towards those things. Also, there is a point in relationships where love does become a choice. After even a year of marriage people get divorced because they couldn't "work things out". I think it's too often a case of them not WANTING to work things out. But anyways, I think love itself is the reason and can create the reason for working towards having one's own household...family and such. However, the "formula" to having a family of your own is a little longer than just "Em2 =love" it's more like love+(commitment x selflessness)+stable income /sacrifice+...so on and so forth...
