      @@haleemahkhan61 - She is dead!!! The kiss was made out of grief. Anyone who does not understand what is going on here is the one with the problem not the actual scene. Context is everything and it is okay to have an emotional reaction on the death of a loved one .
      Here is an other example, someone requiring CPR is also not able to give consent, so do we just leave them to their fate? This would be the logical conclusion to any argument of consent.
      It is the people that sexualise every human interaction that are the ones with the real problem here. We are dealing with a fantasy cartoon and the kiss occured after the Prince discovered her in a glass coffin. It is spelled out quite clearly what is going on.
      Also if she likes it that is evidence of consent!!! On seeing him she goes to cuddle him.
      In normal relationships you do not ask for verbal consent before every interaction. There are other levels of understanding that have taken place in order for us to to know that our partner gives us consent to kiss or cuddle them.

    • @haleemahkhan61
      @haleemahkhan61 11 месяцев назад

      @@mackerel129 no I actually get u more now and I agree. Although she didn't consent (its not really relevant), I agree that consent isn't needed as like u said this was out of grief and kiss as an expression of his love and emotion. I mean like u said cpr doesn't require consent (although in hospital settings you have DNR)
      However liking something doesn't mean consent. Consent is permission. Its like if I didn't want to watch a film but mh friend begged me to go (or forced me). I end up living the film, but I didn't "consent" to wanting to watch it. This isn't relevant to snow White necessarily but often times with rape victims the people that did it to them often say things like they liked to minimise their pain and silence the victim. But that doesn't mean they consented to it because they were violated against their will.

      @mackerel129 11 месяцев назад

      @@haleemahkhan61 - But her behaviour did indicate she consented. She opened her arms to him to draw him closer to her.
      In normal relationships, we do not ask our partner if it is okay to kiss them or put our arm around them every time. To promote the idea that verbal consent must happen every time there is a desire for physical interaction is not conducive to a healthy relationship. Relationships are built on trust and there are many levels of communication in relationships. (Ahem) Sometimes that communication comes in the form of kisses to indicate to the other partner the desire to do other things- the other partner either reciprocates or puts cold water on the moment.

    If you want to make the kiss relatable to current society, the prince can kiss snow white, but snow white will wake up furious or the dwarves would be furious watching it happen that snow white was not asked before being kissed. They would try to sue the prince or tell everyone in the kingdom through pigeon and snail mail until the prince is either no longer a prince or not allowed to be outside his castle anymore. It would be a reflection of how our society reacts nowadays.

    Am I missing something here? Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Snow White essentially “stalked” by the evil Queen and when the Prince showed up at the end to kiss her, she was dead. She wasn’t sleep. It was technically her funeral and he showed up to pay his respects. Lots of people kiss the deceased when they say goodbye. Why kill the fairytales and magic for children? The world is already crazy enough as it is. Let’s at least give them some since of happiness in the tv and movies they watch

    In the original tale, the glass coffin is accidentally dropped when they carry her back to the castle and the piece of poison apple flies out of her mouth, waking her. They could have just replaced Disney's kiss scene by honouring the original fairy tale and adding comedic relief. There's modifying an old story for a modern audience, and then there's taking everything to an extreme to pander to an ideal that doesn't even exist in our current culture, and doing it in a way that is surface-level, hypocritical, and contradictory.

  • @livpinker9961
    @livpinker9961 Год назад +19

    Dreadful - they ditched the dwarves and made the prince an extra - this is not the story of snow white! The core elements of the classic tale have been removed to the point the story is unrecognisable so why on earth did they stick with the title? The core elements were: pure, kind girl , becomes the object of jealous stepmothers envy.... girl lives in hiding with dwarves and warms their hearts with her kindness, making the place more of a home. She eats a poison apple which puts her into a magical death, until her true love kisses her. And you can probably bypass the worrisome rapey tone of that simply by putting in a scene where she and the prince already know eachother and are betrothed/inlove/ destined to be together - because as somebody who experienced grief trust me kissing your dead loved one isn't creepy. The point of this story was that the prince was destined for snow white. It is romantic. It illustrates how love can heal and save us. There is more to life than battle and ambition. We have plenty of warrior princesses but who wanted to change snow white into that??? If romance isn't for you pick a different fairytale. If disney wanted to get all woke they should have just cast the prince as a woman, not made love and nurture irrelevant. I feel like all the disney princesses are cookie cutter copies of the same feminine ideal. Woman are strong! Women can achieve! blah blah blah, it's so boring. Nurture, kindness, compassion to animals - these things are all valid. I don;t see these values at all in disney. Why are we writing men out entirely? Nobody is an island. If you're writing prince charming out to show love is diverse then cast the first female/ female romance because it helps children with non-nuclear families to have representation somewhere, but this is just pointless rubbish - woke for the sake of it. My children will never be watching this rubish!

    • @livpinker9961
      @livpinker9961 Год назад

      @@poetjla7778 well sure there are some far right folks involving themselves - especially with this being snow white the girl famed for the skin white as snow, but aside from the Grimm fairytales poetry of description her appearance plays very little role in the story itself . So I am sympathetic to the fact that there may be people who are being less than fair to the new version because they are seeing it through a bigotted lens. I feel like in every generation it's really important all little girls can find a Diney princess that they feel looks a bit like and represents them. And on that topic I'm quite torn because I knew super pale girls who got teased, but overall I just don't care which princess is which shade as long as in every generation every little girl has somebody to say she's beautiful and kinda like me. Now I have't read the grimm story but I always understood that the idea was that she was called snow white and that reference was also about her internal beauty/ purity. So whilst you can change the non important aspects of narrative i.e, appearance, if you take away snow whites qualities of personality then you are simply dealing with a different character entirely. I think the worst thing about the Disney trend is that whilst it seems to earn points for showing us diversity it really is a very shallow/ surface level of diversity. There catalogue of new films it seems as though they're only showing us the same personality over and over again. If they had kept snow white as the gentle classical beauty who is about kindness and made her black this would have been a contribution and may have contributed more - because little girls want to feel pretty. And if you studied sociology of little girls that grew up with barbie dolls there are some heartbreaking experiments that show minorities didn't feel as beautiful / "good". My problem with this vapid modernisation from what I have seen is that instead of trying to do good it tries only to avoid offending and "look inclusive" which is not the same as being good or genuine recognition of diversity and inclusion. So many opportunities were missed here. Obviously I can see problems of a live action with dwarves that are entirel 1 dimensional and named dopey or sneezy but these aspects could have been changed . I think the word dopey could get used as a playground slur but a busy dwarf, a bouncy dwarf , all with fully fleshed out personalities - it could have been wonderful. They could have been really brave and created something amazing by dealing with the tricky issues, but this is just so weak , instead they gave up . I feel like they cut out the meat of this narrative to replace it with hot air about being modern and inclusive, it's a stale re-hash. In the coming years so many children will be birn into families with 2 mummies or 2 Daddies, if they wanted to contribute something why not actually do that. It could have been a modern love story if they really needed to hit these diversity targets. But love will never be out of date. They literally only subtracted rather than added anything. The real issue here is that diversity should mean the disney princesses are diverse, some want love, some are tomboys, some have internal demons and need to gain confidence, some are looking for family or friendship. It isn't right wing to say stop erasing some females from the narrative entirely because they are about sweetness and kindness. Gentle women should not be crushed out simply because they're not the loudest.

    Well all I can say is I have mild Asperger’s and a lot of the time over my 40 plus years and in the present day I have not always been treated the same. Yes we should all be treated the same no mate what skin colour we are or what sex we are or if we have a mild learning disability or if we are trans. But that should not mean rewriting history just to cos some woke people say so. Yes it’s ok to modernise fairytales but to think people might be offended as the reason to change things is silly. Best thing to do is if you think you might feel offended by a film or play or book or tv show then do not either read it or watch it. Simple as that.
    Fairytale are not feel life
    You should not get worked up about fiction when there are much worse things to worry about and talk about.

Boycott Disney till they start listening to their fans again rather than smugly looking down on us and cancelling anyone that calls them out

    The original brothers grimm story was just called schneewittchen, it didnt include the dwarfs in the title (and there were not 7, the amount was unspecified and they didnt have names or sing songs), and although the literal translation of schneewittchen is snow white, the german meaning of it is "a woman or girl with black or dark brown hair with pale skin", now rachel zegler is a black hair, pale latina, so she fits the title.
    Plus Disney already changed it back in 1937, what you people call the original or classics were disneys first adaptation, if you really want to go back to the original 1812 brothers grimm version i can tell you the story right now but its not nice.
    So you have a woman who cuts her finger, blood falls on the floor onto the snow, she says she wants a child who is pale as snow (not white as snow as the 1857 one says) lips as red as blood, hair as dark as coal and eyes as green as the forest.
    She then has a daughter called snow white (now notice i said has a daughter, because in the very original it was her real mother not her step mother) as snow white grows up and becomes 7 years old the mother gets jealous that her magic mirror thinks snow white is more beautiful, so she sends snow white into the forest and then tells the huntsman to kill her and bring back the lungs and liver of her own 7 year old daughter so she can eat them to absorb her beauty, the huntsman having a heart didnt kill her and instead took back animal lungs and liver, eventually the mother found out snow white was still alive and was out living with the dwarfs where the huntsman had left her for safety, so the mother poisons half of an apple and takes it to snow white as a gift to apologise, to trick snow white into biting the apple the mother bites it herself but on half thats not poisoned, snow white takes a bite of the apple and drops down dead, the dwarfs then encase her in a glass coffin where later a prince would arrive and fall in love with a 7 year olds lifeless corpse, he then begs the dwarfs to let him take her, eventually they do, so they take snow white back to the castle (in the 1857 version this is where she wakes up after a guard drops the coffin and the apple chunk falls out her mouth and she wakes but not in the 1812 version) the prince not being able to be away from her at all has the guards carry the coffin from room to room to be with him, a guard eventually gets so fed up doing this he opens the coffin and punches the 7 year olds lifeless corpse and knocks the apple from her gullet causing her to wake, the prince and 7 year old snow white then get married (yes paedophilia was happening), at the wedding snow whites mother turns up and after the prince realises what happend he forces the mother to wear red hot iron shoes and dance in them until she drops dead, then the prince and his underage bride live happily ever after.
    So do you really want a violent, paedophile freak show story made or are you actually okay with changing the story to make it more inclusive to all?
    Plus lets not forget disney dont own it, its public domain so any one of you people who complain about it can go make your own, but remember to stick to the story i just told you otherwise you will be doing exactly what disney are doing.

      "more inclusive for all", if you can't enjoy a show, film, game, book, comic, etc unless it has people who look like you, you're pathetic.
      I never once thought when watching Moana with my nephews "I can't enjoy this, I'm not Polynesian. It obviously wasn't made for me".
      Yet, according to lefties, it's important to change European folklore and heritage to "make it more inclusive". Are your opinions of minorities so low? Do you really think them so petty and shallow, they can only relate to people who look like them? You sound pretty prejudiced to me.

      Then Disney shouldn't call it a "remake of the 1937 film" 🙄 They may as well call it their second adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, not a remake of the 1937 film, because its too different

      Nice try though 👍🏻 You can defend this garbage all you like, all you do is make a fool of yourself. If this was a separate adaptation of the original fairy tale, Disney would've said so, they wouldn't keep saying "remake" or "re-imagining" of the 1937 film.

  • @JustAnotherPerson4U

    I am against this new adaptation.
    Not because it's got a latina playing Snow White like so many like to complain. Not because of the changes. In fact I'm actually a supporter of updating old fairy tales and giving a different interpretation in general.
    I'm against it because it's DISNEY doing it.
    They've done remake after remake and they're mostly soulless.
    Loads loved the little mermaid remake recently. And whilst it wasn't a bad film, it was the same story with shallow changes plodded here and there. And I don't mean same story as in the little mermaid's story. I mean the same as the 1989 version.
    One such change that loads like to point out, is people praising Ariel and her sisters being ethnically diverse and representing the oceans of the worlds by being their respective rulers. This includes Ariel. Yet, we don't see Ariel perform any leadership duties in her ocean. She goes through the same story beats as the original. So making her a ruler was utterly pointless in that regard.
    Updating/remaking a film means nothing if you don't try and make it a good story first and foremost.
    I would've been more supportive of this new adaptation had it been started 10 years earlier.
    But I won't see it because I refuse to support these lifeless remakes.

    Why do people care if an OLD story is updated to match the preferences of the creators involved? Nowadays we have this ridiculous movement that believes original stories are ''untouchable'', but this just isn't backed up by anything. EVERY story and EVERY piece of art can be adapted, changed, updated. So long as the original remains accessible and intact, WHAT is the issue?
    Sure, some hardcore OG Disney Snow White fans might be saddened that the remake is different, but this is surely 0.001% of the population. The others who dislike the changes can simply opt out of watching and abstain from this entitled and self-righteous criticism. A mindset that spreads like wild fire among the internet's toxic and conformist users.

    • @CucumberCheese
      @CucumberCheese 11 месяцев назад

      @@maxwellgeary9632 Your comparison fails on several fronts. Paintings like Renoir, Rembrandt, and van Gogh are static, standalone works of art. Their essence lies in their original form, frozen in time. There would be no reason to update these. Storytelling, however, particularly in cinema, relies on ever changing technology and is a more dynamic process.
      Stories can and should be adapted to reflect our changing world, all while respecting the essence that made them classics in the first place. Whilst also keeping the originals untouched and accessible. It's pretty harmless and incredibly simple to understand.

    • @maxwellgeary9632
      @maxwellgeary9632 11 месяцев назад

      @@CucumberCheese You say paintings can't be updated as they are static stand alone works Snow White is a static stand alone work as well. It was written at a specific time and place making specific comment and instruction on then applicable Social and Societal Mores and behaviour. Your so called remake is simply a completely new Narrative that has Plagiarized the name for commercial gain. It should more accurately be called" Entitled Brat and the Seven Social Sycophants "

    • @CucumberCheese
      @CucumberCheese 11 месяцев назад

      @@maxwellgeary9632 Your comparison, again, does not work. Snow White, as a story, has already seen numerous adaptations over the years. Unlike a painting, which remains a fixed (or static) visual representation, a story is inherently more abstract and open to reinterpretation. There's no reason why it can't be revisited.
      Google what ''adaptation'' means, and you'll realise how flawed your comparison is. It has already undergone various transformations, each adapting it to their respective era and technological advancements.
      The only entitled brat here, is you. Your dismissal of modern adaptations as mere plagiarism reeks of entitlement. It implies that the creators of adaptations are not entitled to reinterpret, reimagine, or build upon existing stories, even when they do so with creative and artistic intentions, and have the relevant permission.
      Don't like it? Don't watch it. Move on, you've lost this one.
