We are using the same detector ;) I live in Germany and I use my Garrett ACE 250 for 5 or 6 years now and I've found a lot of great stuff with it. Very old things like coins and stuff from the roman age to medieval and WW2 and lots of silver. I've never found any gold with the Garrett but I know people who did. So maybe there was no gold where I was detecting. But I had a great time and my finds were often better as from colleagues with 1500 Euro machines. Go on ;)

Kevin, soak your coins and other metal in vinagar foe a few days. Then use a course brush or brillo pad with baking soda. Re-soak in vinager as needed. Works really well. Frank

Had this problem years ago. Something was there (?). After about the 3rd time this happen I decided I was going to find out what was going on.
Sifted the plug. Found a few pellets from 7 1/2 bird shot "lead". Very hard to see when mixed with the dirt.

@@Robinson-Homestead What notch on the Garrett Ace 250 does it usually fall in, when a small 14 Carrot ring is found?

that copper piece that you didn't know what it was looks like to be the tip from sword scabbard. maybe Civil War timeframe. the token would be from a coal mine company given out to an employee for pay. but by doing that they keep the money in house. almost like indentured servants. I'll dig more on that one for ya. those are the two items in most excited about.

Indeed the tokens on that are called script. I’ve found them before. An the personalized ones become more valuable to collectors.

“Company Scrip” used as pay by coal companies to miners. Could only be spent at the Company Store.

Never worry about doing the same place thrice or ten times. You'll always miss something. I pounded a low creek bank this summer, probably did it 20 times. It was like 6 feet x 30. Pulled a barber and Merc dime out of it, but not on the same day. Got an AT Pro and my first target was a deep Indian penny. They are in there. Try a different direction if you can.

welcome to a great hobby!!! one thing I would suggest is getting a pair of gloves(like the rubber dipped)!!! I learned the hard way about scooping up dirt w/ my bare hands(a bloody mess)...you just don't know what's down there sometimes. man, you are going to love your pinpointer when you get one! I didn't think I needed it when I first started but now I'm not sure I'd hunt without it!!! happy hunting. kishanabear aka plugdug

If you ever find silver coins like that Merc. and you want to clean them up use baking soda and a little salt; rub that on them with a little warm water. They'll look like they're brand new.

take cup of white vinegar and add three table spoon of edible salt and mix it well and leave your coin in the solution and you will see how clean they would become

If you get your 100 hours on it you will get better hits on it you have to learn your machine thanks for the comment Cajun.

Kevin Robinson that did not help at all - I definitely have many hours on the machine but was asking what settings you use - I am sorry that was a bit much to ask but thankfully other RUclipsrs shared their settings - have a great day

That appears to be what they call meteor rock that's making your machine to sound off,and your question on cleaning you can use lemon juice but you never want to rub the coin hard, get you a toothpick and just kinda scratch away all the grime dirt e.t.c but very lightly and when you are done with that actually rubbing oils straight from your skin will keep a nice patina to them.look up AquaChigger and follow him on RUclips and Nugget Noggin you will be glad you did ,hope this helps from a West Virginian!! Good luck and God Bless!

You do know that rubbing the dirt off will scratch the coin? Get a small wide mouth plastic bottle with a little water in it. Drop the dirty coin in it and agitate it. You can transform a $100 coin or token into a $50 one with that practice. People watch your video and soon everybody is damaging their finds.

The token is most likely belonging to a man named Joe szentmartony. He immigrated to Pennsylvania in the 1800’s and was from Hungary. He died in the south-westernmost county of Pennsylvania, right near West Virginia. I can only assume it has to do with this man because it’s a very uncommon name for that time period in the Appalachian mountains. Anyways, I found this information on ancestry.com. 👍
