  • Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency that uses elliptic curves in the ECDSA. Since cryptosystems often require some form of arithmetic to encode and decode information we have a couple questions to ask; What are elliptic curves? And how can we do arithmetic on an elliptic curve?

I remember one time I went to a conference and they had a talk on elliptic curves, but then the wifi stopped working and the speakers couldnt access their presentations, so the speaker for the elliptic curve talk resorted to drawing on a black board. In the 35 minutes they had, they only had enough time to describe addition in the original definition and ended up by saying "now do all of this modulo a big prime and youre set". So kudos for conveying all that info and more, very understandably and in barely 10 mins. Keep at it, great work!

Awesome man, can we talk about Eliptic curve? I'm doing a college research i would love your help, Thanks for the video! Good luck !

Well I’m no expert, I’ve just had the opportunity to learn a bit about the topic and share it here. If your looking for an intro I believe Silverman and Tate have a book that is aimed at undergrads and those just starting out. There are a few typos here and there but most of the stuff is alright.

College research? I'm doing this stuff for my masters, how do you get this in college lol?

As all mathematical approaches eventually do 😅

What happens when you draw an almost vertical line through two points on an elliptic curve? Then it would not hit a 3rd point. Here is an example of what I mean: pasteboard.co/HQ8oA5X.png

In the example you have given, It would still hit the curve a third time. The intersection is just not pictured in the limited picture of the graph you’ve provided.

    Why aren't all mathematicians Bitcoiners?
