The other day I found out my grandfather was named after Burl Ives. I stopped by to check it out to see what my great grandparents would have heard. It's very beautiful and speaks to my soul. I love these little connections I can have with my passed on relatives.
Let us all tip a glass for Burl Ives. A man with a song in his heart. Oh how the sound of his guitar strings have given us so much comfort and cheer. RIP
He was a man who loved music no matter where it’s roots were. I know he also acted in films but I suspect his passion was music. How lucky was I to be raised knowing his voice ? Xxx
Yes, we had this album when I was small in the early 1950s, and I also remember every song. I think it was actually three discs, two songs on each side. It's a fine collection!
ha! my folks had this album waaay back in the 50s/60s. i remember every word of every song but have not heard them for some 55+ years. thanks for posting this. i recall my mother singing these songs while working in the kitchen, especially “the eddystone light”
This is a very early LP. Wonder if early records were all as short as this. For 10 inch would expect about 20 minutes a side. Enjoyed listening to it this morning. Thank you for uploading.
I think when the LP came out in 1948 most only had 4 songs per side (Or more songs that were very short like this album). Maybe the grooves weren't as small as they made them on later albums and not as much could be crammed on there.
dad/papy j ferd, idolized him. said met at presidential dinner for soldiers . dads group of mountain music and even burl was overshadowed by the Jambory choir ? dad took his mandalin to utah beach d day, so met before or after as was staioned in Dc area , gaurded washington monument he said. used music to heal hands week after landing. i do few of songs learnted in ' 60's and hope to revivie many more tunes...

Love all of these , grew up with them on trips in the car up north. His voice is rich and beautiful and make me oh so sentimental. Xo
I'm here as my dad loved him. Starting to love his music to😊

The sound of my childhood. My parents had 'The Wayfaring Stranger'
Happy memories with my dad❣️
sound quality is astounding for such an old recording (even if it's probably been digitally remastered)

GREAT SONGS BY BURL LOVE THEM
Music for the ages. Burl Icle Ivanhoe Ives (June 14, 1909 - April 14, 1995)
I used to see his albums in bargain bins all the time and avoided them but now I might just buy some of his music if its still in good condition.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was how I first came to know Burl Ives. His memorable voice was a welcome sound in our home every Christmas season.
