There have been times in my life where I've isolated myself from friends and family, it strains relationships, made me inverted when I'm in reality an extovert, socially awkward even though I'm witty, charming and get along great with people. so bad that I took up the bottle and trust me, you know you've gone to far where you believe you can't even go out in public until half of it is down your throat. Since I've come to learn the 48 laws and study each one individually, this video reassures me that isolation holds me back and that I should keep in touch with the relationships I still have, go out with people and be social in comparison to staying at home. Meet new people and continue to form new relationships. In my experience isolation means memories I'll never have, lessons I won't learn and opportunities missed. First time commenting on RUclips. Thanks for these enlighten videos bro. Really helping others and the first of many steps for making my life better for sure!

Appreciate that, mate. I've since realized that there's nothing wrong with a bit of isolation as long as you use that time to become a stronger, wiser, better self. I also like to hang around people, but they're usually years older and dare I say more mature than most of our generation. Godspeed & thank you for the feedback!

+illacertus that's weird. I also hangout with older people and am introvert but when I'm with friends and stuff I have extroverted tendencies. I think I've learned to cope with them. For some reason, even if I am alone, I don't feel any loneliness. Looks like I like my own company. Anyways, keep up the good work. I subscribed today! I'm happy to have found your page!

I am studying the 48 laws of power and other books of this nature. I am watching your videos because I wanted a second interpretation of the complex concepts I have been exposed to in Mr Green's book. Another person's interpretation can shed light on a subject regardless of the interpretation is correct or not. With that said, yours clearly are in line with the original text. I feel I have placed myself at an unnecessary disadvantage, in life. I mean to rectify that. When I found this book, I immediately regognized its immense value and began to study it endlessly. Now, I read it more than most priests read the Bible. It is very long and I needed a compressed version to listen to when intense study would not be beneficial or possible. You're videos serve this purpose brilliantly. Thank you for your time, you're videos and your insights. Feel free to email me if you wish to discuss this book or any other book/philosophy dealing with strategy and power.

I’ve connected deeply with your channel. I believe you saved me from myself. I moved to a new country in hopes of pursuing an education. I ended up dropping out because of depression. I was isolated for about a year. While being desperate for connection, I met some pretty bad influences. It lead me down a dark path I never intended. Your channel helped me see the manipulative people in my life and now I avoid them like the plague. And now, I’m starting to read and workout like a mad man. I just wanted to say thank you

This is the one I've been struggling for the past 5 years. Before, there were too many people, especially in my family who were ill-minded and miserable (Law #10). There was much childhood trauma I won't get into. After gradually breaking away from old patterns and "not the best" kind of friends, I was happy. I was actively playing guitar, training jiu-jitsu, school, work, poker, etc. all while meeting all kinds of people and as a big bonus girls were really into me.
Several bad things happened 5 years ago and that trauma blew up. Slowly, I stopped contacting people and vice versa. I was diagnosed with ptsd. Haven't given up to get back into society but it is incredibly, incredibly, difficult. You slowly lose yourself, lose interest in all things, not good. I'd like to think of these years as "Monte Cristo prison time" and make it out somehow...Since you like discussion I'm sharing for people not to isolate too long in bad times, also, overly said but sharing keeps that hope alive.

Hey man thanks for doing these videos, love them! This is the law I most struggle with. Especially after suffering a setback/feeling threatened I feel the urge to isolate myself and think it is the only way out. Not long ago I was betrayed by one of my best friends and felt that isolating myself from the social circle I could avoid the embarrassment of having been played. Later, when I got back into the circle, I found that people didn't really care as much as I thought they did...and I had wasted valuable time in isolation and not enjoying myself. The law is almost counterintuitive to how we are trained to behave...

dude. im almost in tears ryt now. this is the stage im in, what u are experiencing when u made this vid. im also an introvert. went to rehab for depression for 4 years. and i recently decided to cut off connection with 3 people in my life that are bringing me down. one was a fellow resident in the rehab who used to be a drug addict. she doesn't want me joining her circle of clean friends. it was because i asked one of her male friends about career since in redefining my own and want to venture into entrepreneurship in the automotive industry. i had to block her from all social media. and it hurts me a lot. then another friend was from highschool. he tried bashing me about my violent tendencies during highschool. blocked him also. he seemed to be leading a miserable life. the last one was my female bestfriend and failed love interest. it's not because of her that im avoiding her but because of me being hurt when i see her or are being reminded of her with her boyfriend. she also thinks im corny and not good at jokes but can't suggest a better way to deliver one. don't get me wrong though dude. i have a normal social life somehow. i live with my relatives. im about to study in a Toyota school in june.
what im pondering about this redirection that i have in my social life is how im going to learn to acquire new friends and not repeat the same mistake that i had with the unhealthy social circle i had. there must also be something wrong with my attitude that's why im attracting the wrong people right?
    from a fellow introvert. ☺

I can really empathise with not only your content, but also your confession. I have always been a loner among a circle of people who practice unproductive behaviour. Most of them just wouldn't understand my desire to focus on literature, philosophy and psychology as a means of self development, insight into others behaviour and at the same time entertainment.
I'm now on my way to becoming a librarian focusing on comparison of literature, but am still struggling to find a meaningful and supportive environment.
I sincerely hope you have by now managed to strengthen your your social foundation and can manage to flourish even further.
I greatly enjoy your videos and have been watching your channel for years now.
I hope you read this and can draw strength from it while looking forward.
If I might suggest a slightly different topic: Schopenhauer and his view on life. It is described most condensedly in his "Aphorisms about life wisdom" (rough translation)
Continue kicking ass, you were a great source of inspiration in my dark times, as well as many others. :)

Honestly, I was trying to get into the 18th Law until you started describing your own situation, I feel the same way, is just I enjoy my own company so much, I like martial arts and books, look in internet after things which in some way improve the quality of my life, entrepreneur tutorials, exercise, different cultures, movies, languages. The truth sometimes I enjoy better to talk to myself than with people which approval I'm not interested in and that I don't respect, I don't need to gather with people which bring nothing positive to me and just waste my time. Guess this difference in thinking is that same kind of vision that take us to find eachother interested in a channel like this one.

After school I slummed it in my parents for two years and my parents, while nice people, barely have any need to talk to me and I noticed that over the years I became a lot more well-heeled and have a better understanding of the world from so long in isolation that I really lost ability to communicate effectively.
Being charming definitely seems like a skill you practice on, not something innately born into people barring looks.

Conspicuous Cultist Agreed. A lot of great minds develop in prisons, where you got nothing to do, but think. Isolation is one form of imprisonment. So, when you leave your cell - you surely need to put in some effort to reconnect with others.

I hope you are still on your journey. I came upon your video and am elated. The 48 Laws has been in my book collection many years. Due to my socially adept introvert ways, I was never "seen" as an introvert. I am this way because I look at peoples moral base very closely. Their surface layers I know are a facade. I distance myself accordingly. So many are like lamb to the slaughter and think I am odd for overthinking everything and not just going along with the crowd. I'm aging and very intoned to my mortality and need to live a more full life. I just detest basic shit. Shopping, eating, consuming things. I like experiencing things that give me pause to think, not just passively receive. Your videos are good and I look forward to seeing more of them. Could you touch more on Kahlil Gibran...I love The Prophet, especially "On Children". Also the Alchemist would be quite a challenge to simplify. Keep up the good works.

Great summary and the illustration are amazing. I really appreciate you for adding these videos because, i am reading 48 paws of power and i wanted to know if others were coming up with the same interpretations of laws. The self reflection and the end of each chapter is brilliant it allows me to get another real honest perspective from someone that has read the book. That is needed when reading a book about power and psychological warfare. Keep up the good work and i hope the book helps you like it has helps me.

I think you should polish up the script for closing off the chapters. That way its faster. Longer videos aren't bad, but the deeper the summary's go the more I see you putting yourself into it, compared to just an analysis and summary of the actual chapter. If that's the direction you want it to go then power to you, but the first 10 chapters or so weren't like that and the newer ones are.
    Love the work

Hey bro I'm really glad you opened up in this video and gave us a little insight about your life. Recently I've started hanging with a new crowd over the last year and a half, and all they do is just smoke weed and saying negative and ignorant stuff.
I really noticed that none of us have anything in common we have just known each other for a while, and I can't really be myself around them without being judged. So I've recently distanced myself from them, and I've become happier and just feel better about myself.
You are definitely right "hang around the people you want to be like", do you have any advice on how to meet good people that exude positivity?

    • @Illacertus
      @Illacertus  9 лет назад +2

Hyakuju 47 Thank you, mate. It's comments like yours that keep me going and I'm glad to hear you've been able to help yourself in that way. I've found that in sports or a common interest in general there's a special bond between people that you can become part of. Where I train martial arts are about 50 dudes and some girls, each as unique as one can be, but it's not just tough workouts, we're all good friends. We'll have long chats afterwards, may go out somewhere and if anybody needs our support, we're there. I guess Kung Fu also revolves around eastern philosophy, which has a link to buddhism - a positive thinking & perspective is taught. Most of the people are older, too. I've made many friends 10-20 years older than me and our connection is great. I think it's the experience they've accumulated, that has made them good positive and also interesting people. If it's competitive, makes your body sweat and involves other people, you'll have a lot of new friends and you keep yourself healthy. I hope that helps.

@illacertus i'm a DJ/Party Promoter. Its easy for me to get caught up in the house, coming up with promotional Schemes, designing my own flyers, getting the latest music, and practicing my craft...then i'll have to remember that i need to be around people to actually bring people out to my events lol.

This law was broken in my high school years.
I am working on expanding my knowledge of everything by surrounding myself with people who know more and work harder than me.
This really boosts my output and results.

This one was especially fitting for me. I don't have any friends and don't have even sub-par communication skills. I also don't have any family members that I can communicate with because they are financial successful and I am on disability. So, to them I am on welfare. I'm also America's worst nightmare. I'm a large African American male. I am continuously judged and labeled just by a look. I truly understand what this means, because you have to have people in your corner. You never know what tomorrow will bring. I've seen people around me get benefits that I'm entitled to, but I don't receive. And yes, I do inquire. This is very hard for me. I'm going to stop now...

Dude ive been trying to understand the language of men. Then i came up with that, every man no matter who they really are, challenges other man. that is our nature i guess.
at that point my man, your videos really helped me to analyze weaknesses, myself and others.
now i know a lot about me, now i just have to focus on their exploits.
thank you for those informations and your explanation. keep on Rock'n Dude!

Mert CABILAR we challenge each other so we can compete with each other. To many that looks destructive but in reality it is constructive. The results of us competing is a type of dance from which we are giving an taking from each until. What we have left is the point of competing . The correct choice to make or a better idea to move forward with.

This law is very true..at a point where I was really gaining momentum at a job i was doing, I had worked my way up for years, paying my dues and putting sweat and hard work being included with the higher ups and talks of advancing things even higher i decided to take a break a year goes by as i tried to keep good relations with one of them when I came back I was a stranger. Like I've never worked there before and now I'm literally at the bottom..its devastating but lesson learned.

+alex kurtov Thank you for your feedback Alex. I did realize personal stories are more relatable than these historical events. It's not easy for everybody to connect the dots - I completely understand. I'm a polyglot - had French lessons for years.

Firstly, thank you to the author for this brilliant summary of this intriguing book. Please keep up the good work.
Regarding this Law, I too find this one the hardest to swallow. I am also an introvert and am very comfortable with my own company for long periods of time. I like to do things on my own schedule (I often find others too slow), and have learnt if you want something doing do it yourself. I am a bit of a misanthrope and generally distrust people and get irritated by the increasingly unsubstantiated illogical crap that comes out of people's mouths. However I have to agree that avoiding social interactions makes you an easy target as your social skills and awareness wane, so 'dipping your toe in' to a variety of social events as they present themselves is a necessary discomfort if you don't want to become prey to the more socially adept unscrupulous manipulators on the inevitable few times you are forced to socially interact. There will be many mistakes along the way but just pick yourself up, learn ( with emotional detachment) from each encounter, and get back in the game. Introverts are typically also quite emotional, but I have found forcing myself to be more sociable especially with people I don't particularly like, develops skills for controlling emotional output and clearly expressing myself in a manner that gets results.

I'm sticking around buddy. I've shared it with a few close friends in work and it's opened a few eyes to some of the characters in the office who are clearly playing the game. . I'm not a power mad person myself but you've armed me to handle them. It's amusing to turn the tables on them and so simple to do. Thanks a lot. Really appreciate it.
