We do have two independence days. The first, and most important one, February 27th, and the restoration of our independence August 16th. The first independence was from Haiti, the second one from Spain.

@Divinum I’ve seen them talk about politics on the show before.I think he should’ve at least mentioned it, considering Dominicans in Spain,France,Germany, The USA,Canada, and Mexico all took to the streets to protest and show solidarity with their fellow Dominicans in the DR, it would’ve been a much nicer thing to talk about on February 27 than unprotected sex.

They did more than fight the Haitian government, under Trujillo they had a policy of “social cleansing” by encouraging Spanish and other European immigrants to migrate and displace Afro-Dominicans and Haitians. The Dominican government wanted to DR follow Argentina’s model of making the country whiter or as they say in Spanish “mejorar la raza”.

Nobody complains about Boyer trying to make DR blacker, but everyone complains about Trujillo trying to make DR whiter.
As a Dominican myself, i went to work this past 27th and i remember i realized what day it was around 10:45 am that day. I packed all my crap and all i said was today is a holiday and i'm going home ! everyone around me started looking at their calendars to try to figure out what holiday it was . still laughing at their confused faces Lmao !
