@@christianshaw2450you can't prove that when you lost a quarter of your schedule. How can you be top 12 with that many losses? At what point do you penalize the sec? After 4 losses? After 5 losses? After 6 losses?
They did not take strength of schedule into account enough. If you want your school to make it to the playoffs, you should schedule have to schedule playoff caliber games.
Too bad it looks like Tennessee strength of schedule was a mirage. Tennessee was 10-2 vs an SEC schedule but as soon as they played a BigTen team, they got smoked.
@ I've been watching Tennessee all year. Every win they had over a ranked opponent was because their ranked opponent had a terrible game. They didn't beat any good teams because they were just the better team. A lot of SEC teams had a handful of off games this season. I think if Alabama played at the level they are actually capable of, they beat Tennessee. It took OT for them to beat Florida, could have been anyones game. They got pounded by Georgia. Two close games and a loss against the heavy hitters, wouldn't necessarily call it a playoff run.
You never want to put everything on one player, but Kevin Jennings is throwing the game away for SMU. The rest of the team is playing well enough to compete.
I wonder why so many people were selling SMU so hard. Could it be that they wanted to keep Alabama out so they wouldn't have to play them? SMU has no business playing in this game. This is ridiculous.
I think what this really proves is that the playoffs do not need to be expanded. If you can’t make the field of 12, you have no chance of winning a title
I still believe SMU should have been in because I don't base that decision off of who we "think" will play better. However, losing 38-10 is a team failure. That is not one person's fault. If it were solely the QB's fault, they would have lost something like 28-21 or 24-20 or something.
Tennessee also was overrated. All the announcers were saying Tennessee had one of the best defenses in the SEC but as soon as they played a BigTen team they gave up 42 points. Do they even play defense in the SEC?

I don't even think SMU as a team has played all that bad, they're just incredibly unfortunate that their qb has had one of the worst games possible. Jennings got absolutely destroyed. Should've took the first down on that initial 4th and 1 turnover. Next series throws a pick six. Then another pick six. All of this barely into the 2nd quarter. Sheesh.
Explain to me again why strength of schedule isn't taken into consideration when putting the playoff picture together. Just like Indiana, SMU is being totally dominated and embarrassed. It's the start of the 4th quarter and they still haven't gotten into the end zone. It wouldn't matter if we had 64 teams in the playoff, there would still be 3-5 teams that would feel left out. The result would always be the same. There's no such thing as a "Cinderella team" in college football. The cream always rises to the top.
At this point just give the SEC their own playoff since that's what the SEC fans keep crying about. The rest of us don't want to watch two SEC Seasons in 1 season.
Seed 11 and 12 spots in the playoff should be decided by a 4 team wildcard. The winners of the 2 games gets the 11 and 12 seed. Seriously, why not? What's one more game? More money and that's what it's all about anyway, right?
