Engine Catch Can - What do they catch? - Let's see

What do catch cans do and what do they collect? Here I check the contents of the catch can on the PCV of the newly built Mini Cooper S R56 turbo engine that has been driven under 4,000 rpm for just over 5000 miles (8000 km).
I take the can off and measure the volume and discuss what's been collected.
