In Germany, home of those brands, we can get our driver's license at the age of 18 and drive alone; At the age of 17 it is possible to drive, but only with a parent sitting next to you; And any of us would be glad to have any kind of car at all, hardly anyone would dream about an expensive BMW
The first car I got was the 12 year old Skoda Octavia from my parents, since then I went through several cars, built own formula racing cars with the racing team at the UAS, currently got a Smart ForTwo from my boss (for free) and drive Mercedes-Benz on the shift; While driving those expensive Benz with automatic gear etc on the shift I'll enjoy the compact Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo with manual gearbox I'll purchase soon
