- Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 Gameplay. Sonic is back! So here is a video of the WiiWare version of Sonic 4. I plan on doing a playthrough of the game but it will probably be either the PS3 version or the Xbox 360 version. So for now here is the first few levels of the game as well as three special stages. Enjoy!

I love all the touches they added from the original genesis games; this game looks so fun! Can't wait to play it!
Update from 12 YEARS in the future: I made this comment when I knew nothing about the game and during a time when 2D Sonic was rare to see on modern hardware.

R.I.P Sonic 4 Episode 1 (Wii), sure the graphics were not as crisp as the Xbox 360/PS3/PC/iOs & Android versions but the music is so good, so good that some soundtracks of the Wii version were better than the HD versions, please SEGA import this music (Wii version) to iOs & Android version and listen to some Sonic fans about returning of characters that we liked or loved.

whoa. I actually kind of like the graphics. they look very cartoonish. it gives a light hearted feeling.
Siremin E it does look like a cartoon well kinda but it also looks fun and awesome i dont mind the graphics though but it still looks cool!
Tbh the graphics were fine....sonic was shaded wrong and didn't fit with the backgrounds.... personally if I were in charge I'd make the sprites for sonic 2d hand drawn or at least 16 bit.... But better shading could have made such a huge difference as he wouldn't pop out as much from the background/level.... Don't get me wrong, the player should stand out... But it should still blend in as a part of the world rather than feel a layer over it.

Y’all can still download it. You’ll needed a modded Wii in order to get it.
You know with the ring design, the muted reflections, and the different music, this is probably better than the console versions of Episode I.

*HD Console Verions The Wii is still a console. Not to mention there is a handheld version of Sonic 4 (IOS/Android)

@@knucklesoldchannelarchived329 There wasn't a version, because the game came out in 2010, not 2011 or when the 3DS was around. It would of been cool if there was a DS version, but oh well. You can play Sonic Colors DS on there though.

You can buy Wii points cards at a store or use a credit card on the Wii Shop Channel to get points.

I wish episode 2 was on Wii. The downscaling of the shading actually makes it look better. Maybe even Wii U
The shaders are an hybrid of the mobile version and the pc version, they got the lighting from the mobile version and the visual effects from the pc version, IT'S PERFECT 👌

I love this game. Its just the old Sonic 1 but with the ability to use both the spindash and the homing attack. (And the 3d and the new levels and the new plot you know what i mean)

@SubWalkthrough Im not at home right now so i'm not sure how many blocks it takes. As for the levels, there are 4 worlds and each world has three levels as well as a boss battle, also 7 special stages and the final stage.
I never knew there was a Sonic The Hedgehog 4.... this looks interesting.

In the end every console does have it's own very good advantages, games and limitations. I personally would prefer the Wii Version of Episode 1 (like I said because of genisis bass^^) but that's a matter of opinion. In the big picture it may be better to download this game for PS3 or XBox 360 because of Episode Metal and Episode 2 but I have a solution I think we all would agree with: Download the game on the console (!) you prefer. :D
I like Sonic and Kirby
The Wii version has multiple save files but the Steam version only has one. How did they do that?

Because of the limits in the engine used for the Steam version's save file handling.

wanted another 2D sonic game, so SEGA gave them this. What SEGA didn't know, was that they wanted another 2D *Classic* sonic game. Also, the level design felt too "Modern" and the stages felt very unoriginal. Also, the physics were terrible.

Yeah a little bit... too late response, its because sonic 4 was planned only for android and ios devices, the wii, ps3, xbox and pc were ported later and i might say the Mobile version its better in gameplay

The problem is mostly in the physics. They corrected the physics by Sonic 4 E2 but it never came to Wii.

WiiWare version has different sound quality than other versions.
Sam Giles It's my favorite version because of that.
Its sonic 1 hd and sonic 3 hd mixed up.
What I like about Wii is MIDI using similar more like Genesis sound unlike HD version using new sound just being similar like Genesis sound.

This really reminds me about a 2D Sonic Heroes. Nothing bad about that, I liked Sonic Heroes. A lot of sounds is re-used in the game too. Well it looks nice, but it could have been better
