    Nice video again Matt , I used to do the same providing a CAD drawing with a quote (20+ years ago) as I felt it added a bit more than just words and numbers on a bit of paper , deffo made a difference getting most private jobs ,
    doing the same again as I’m back making stuff now and will be getting to grips with sketch up for the 3D style drawings , I like the idea re the profiles make sense for sure , thanks for the heads up on that one
    I like the pricing part of the videos also keep up the great work cheers Graham

      Thanks for all your comments Graham.
      Sketchup is very easy to get to grips with. I too used to uses CAD and did a course in AutoCAD but sketchup is so accessible and free!
      I am thinking I will cover all the costs on this job as I go if I get it. It should make a good video.
      Give me a shout if you need anything re sketchup or i could send you the profile files.
      Thank for watching, Matt

      No worries, just shout when you want them.
      Re sketchup. A good tip is to draw things separate and make them a group as soon as you have drawn them, then piece them together.

    Great video thank you; really enjoyed the Sketchup section and how you go about pricing up a job.

      It didn’t really turn out how i wanted but nothing ever does. Genuinely was a one take! And wanted to cover costs but video was too long.
      I really appreciate you watching

      @@Wattsjoinerybarn honestly I'm at the point where what I need to get done before Christmas seems completely impossible (probably because it is) but I'm trying not to think about it or else I'll just not sleep at all 😂

      I know that feeling! And then another job pops in your head you forgot about. It’s the biggest draw back to our jobs! You have to physically provide something and at some point it gets to the point where there are not enough hours left.
      Never let it get ontop of you tho! I love your work😊

    Great video Matt learning off you all the time 👍 I’m slightly baffled by your price for the units seems way too cheap 🤯 £2900 for full job, I’m interested how long it would take you to manufacture/spray and install those units. And what kind of profit margins and day rate structure you base your prices on… every company various wildly across the board.
    I’d say I work to a low profit margin most days even just making day rate but even I need to push for making more profit.
    Hope I don’t sound rude mate, just that price scared me 😮

    • @Wattsjoinerybarn
      @Wattsjoinerybarn  Год назад +1

      Now I am scared!😂
      It’s a small job I have not put much in the way of profit on as I kinda want it and can run it along other jobs, silly I know! But it’s quite a simple job with not much detail as all and repeat sizes, famous last words😂😂
      Good idea tho and if I get it i will show the costs on screen whilst making it in an epic montage 🎉😂
      Cheers for watching again, Matt

      Did a job few month back fitting 30 replacement sash windows and was asked for a price but the job seemed too uncertain in terms of making good and unforeseen circumstances that we agreed to a day rate of £240 a day.
      Did the job 3 weeks quicker than I expected and was kicking my self for not putting in a price. But you live and learn could have easily gone the other way as well.
      Sometimes just securing some work is better than trying to bag few extra pounds…
      Would be
      Interesting to hear how other joiners price there jobs… taboo subject for some 😅
      Keep up the good work 👍

      As you say it could have gone the other way! I have done a few long stints on day work and it’s just not feasible if you want to expand. I probably do 3/4 days a month now on day work and the rest is price.
      I will defo show some sort of figures for this one if they get back to me

      Funny how once you'd priced it up you were pretty much bang on the £1k plm! 😂 I've started using lm as a guide for quick pricing because it does seem to roughly add up most of the time. Unless like you say there's unusual details or construction methods needed etc. Although I would argue that even that estimate range is a little on the low side now with the increase in material costs. I know that you mean about feeling like you almost need to 'prime' customers about the cost. A lot of people think they're going to get made up measure furniture for IKEA prices.... Plus there's people doing jobs for absolutely nothing and God knows how they make any money tbh. It's a bit of a minefield but I think once you find a good customer base it gets easier

    • @Wattsjoinerybarn
      @Wattsjoinerybarn  Год назад

      @nacnud84 exactly that mate. This one is outside of my usual customer base and tbh the vent holes and lettering interests me! I think they will make for a good snap shot so have priced it basic! Also drawn up as all the same size so will be quite straight forward!
      I think 1K plm works well as a start point but in the past I have had customers then get I touch regarding future rooms thinking they know cost. As I say I don’t price much outside of my normal customer base so it doesn’t cost me too much time!
      I think the variation in cost often comes down to people fitting stuff with big standard mdf and not painting it! Reality is tho of coarse that then the customer or decorator will probably have a higher labour bill to finish and the quality won’t be quite there! However it depends on customers budgets and luckily I don’t have that customer base!
      Thanks for the comment bud and watching
