I was laughing so hard seeing you guys losing your minds because this is so nomal for us 🤣Well yes weddings here are very very expensive. We hire choreographers months before and have practice sessions with them. Aside from family members' performances, there are artists hired to perform as well. Since not everyone is rich enough to hire celebrities, there are some acts who are really good and quite famous for these types of gigs only and it inclused dancing acts, singing ,acrobats whatever the bride and groom wants. The decorations are really beautiful. Yeah we spend a lot of money on weddings and also question a lot of times if its worth it but that's what everyone wants😂😂

Indian weddings are vibrant celebrations where families come together to celebrate the union of two individuals. One of the most joyous and lively parts of Indian weddings is the Sangeet ceremony. During the Sangeet, both the bride's and groom's families perform dances and songs to celebrate the occasion. The performances often include traditional dances like the Garba, Bhangra, and Bollywood-inspired dances. The performances are usually divided into dances from the bride's side and the groom's side. It's a way to honor the heritage and bring families closer together.

Okay generally the wedding you saw do cost ALOT and the ones you saw are of very rich people.. Mostly upper middle or upper class people. But India does have a wedding industry that is worth around $130 billion annually so we do spend on it. Though, the average middle class wedding is much less extravagant and milder. But the dancing is key in the sangeet ceremony which happens a prior to the actual wedding day and those are where the performance happen. On the main wedding day the song and dance is limited to groom or now bride arrivals but that's mainly focused on the rituals.
Also, India is such a diverse country there are so many types of weddings depending upon region and religion n everyone have their own ways to celebrate the big day..

Reception is just photo session with bride and groom. Actual wedding ritual are totally different where the bride and groom ties the knot have a whole different devotional activity.

For most common people in India, weddings are pretty much a once in a lifetime affair (yes because a lot of people, even if they do get divorce, won't have another big wedding) which is why we celebrate it like a big 3-5 day party. Parents use a huge chunk of their savings on their kid's weddings and the bride/groom use a lot of their savings too (we spend a lot), it's an extravagant affair and superrrrr fun!! Like a festival with live orchestra and dance performances and unlimited food and stuff 💖

But the singing and dancing was common in North Indian Weddings, but it has become common in South Indian Weddings as well since the advent of Social Media. Now a days, we also have small music videos of the bride and groom that is shared later for people who couldn't visit for the ceremonies.
USD 1000-2000 on just videography expenses is very common. Please note that converted to Indian currency that is a huge amount.

  • @shubhra183

Parents start saving for the wedding the day they get pregnant, even more so if its a girl. The whole reason an Indian goes to work is to send the children to the best college in the world and then go broke on their wedding. An average Indian wedding costs about $50,000 for the middle class. But everyone spends more than they can afford on a wedding.
Also, all the weddings you watched are North Indian and of the upper middle class. South Indian weddings don't have all this choreograped dances. They are a much more religious affair. Not that it makes the wedding any less expensive. Instead of spending money on grand locations and designer clothes, they spend it on gold. Literally, kilos of gold are involved in South Indian weddings (especially in Andhra).
And yes, do see Band Baaja Baraat, for the next movie. It shows both middle class and upper class weddings and how those beautiful "sets" are created.

In India wedding is one crazy event, I am sure for everyone it is but we have no of rituals to perform, so it takes lot of days.. The events you mentioned are thr major ones but we have many other events in between and yes they are grand..
Not to the level of grandeuer of bollywoid for every wedding but depending on the financial capabilities, weddings are hold as grand as they could be on their own level as parents tend to save for children wedding right from the start and spend a major chunk of savings on their wedding even for a middle class normal person..
Dance and mysic is in dna of indian weddings.. We have a sangeet function which consists of all those dance performance, its basically a family concert and then wedding procession (baraat) whivh tkaes around 2-3 hours and all we do is dance crazily for that much time on random streets with blasting music and songs.. 😂Thats the most fun part..

There are dances in close to every function in mostly Hindu and Muslim (barring exceptions) weddings in India. There's quite a few ceremonies and they change a bit based on what region you're in but the basic ones are the Mehendi (bridge and groom put henna on their hands, there are dances here too), the Haldi (turmeric is applied to the bridge and groom by friends and family, there's normally dances or just drums), Sangeet (literally translates to "music", and is a function where the groom and bride's friends and families have sort of a dance face-off), the Baraat (this is the groom's procession on the way to the wedding where the groom's side dances all the way from his room/house to the wedding venue to dholaks and drums, you'll often see this hold up traffic in India) and then there is the actualy Shaadi or Nikah (the actual wedding where no one really dances but there's a sufi or live musicians present to sing in the background) and then there is the final Reception (Where you call all the people who are acquaintances and weren't invited to the wedding or other ceremonies and it's where the bridge and groom meet everyone for the first time as a married couple). Keep in mind there's always "DJ Nights" or "Afterparties" between and after these ceremonies so there's a lot more dancing. Indian weddings are insane, I haven't even covered half of it and I'm sure I've said wrong stuff so forgive me!

In india wedding is a once in a lifetime thing for an individual and parents spend as much as they can in the wedding and invite most of the people they know. Also your family amd friends perform for you on the wedding it's a very normal thing. We even prepare performances for our family's weddings. Also indian culture includes some very important ceremony that's why it takes atleast 3-4 days in a wedding as in tilak, mehndi, sangeet, haldi and the main wedding day. Each function has its own story. Also everyone dress their best in the wedding. Sparkles and jewelry are very normal in india in weddings

We spending millions on wedding dresses 😅 and jwellery in some cultures is pure gold or diamond 😊 I had a traditional wedding and our wedding lasted for 7 days including reception and all the other rituals. We got married within 6 months of getting engaged so we had to prepare for all those 6 months. Starting from booking a banquet hall, caterers, decorators, cinematographers, makeup artists to buying clothes, jwellery (both original and imitation), sandals, shoes, to accessories while also arranging for all the rituals, priests, inviting thousands of ppl to looking after their every need. Its a hell lot of work, money and your time. ❤ But the main thing is we enjoy each and every moment to the fullest. ❤ Approx 1400 ppl came to my traditional wedding at my hometown 😅 couldn't imagine the numbers if I had gotten married in a metrocity (where more ppl coulf have come). 😊

Indian wedding are 6 days ceremony generally! (Also noted i am talking about the region i belong from which is west Bengal) We start with aiburo bhatt which is like the last rice as bachelor! It generally starts a month or 15days ago every reletive invites you and feed you with your favourite dishes! But the last one is like 5 day prior to the wedding which is done by the bride/groom's mother after that the same day we go to ganaga nemontron! Which is like inviting the water god maa ganga(the holy river for hindu) and all other gods like sun, moon, air and soil! You want them to be the witness the auspicious event! This is followed by mehendi next day morning! Haldi is turmeric! Which is good for your skin and it's belived like you are grooming yourself for the wedding! The following night is sangeet which litterly means music! We all sit together jaming on music and also dance! Well some places celebrate this event seperate days but in my place it's celebrated in a single day then the next day is like bachelors party and all the next day there is a small puja! Where we seek blessings to our elders for the Marriage! Followed the weddings day! That day the event is generally organised by the bride side! The wedding takes 2-3 hrs! And general done at night! After the wedding and the buffet! That night all the friends and cousins stay up all night called basor raat!! We talk a lot and again sing and dance! The next day morning the bride takes off towards the grooms home! Which is called vidai! Which a small function and generally very sad! That day after reaching grooms home the next events starts! Both bride and groom plays lots of games at first! That night they don't see each other! May sound weird but 😅 it is what it is! It's called kal raat! At the end the next day at morning there is bhaat kapor which is where the groom vows to take responsibility of the bride! Followed by reception at the evening which is generally conducted by the groom's side ❤

    1) parents keep money aside all their life for their children's wedding
    2) people spend a LOT on weddings here, many even taking out loans
    3) there's a LOT of guests invited, everyone you know comes and sometimes they bring along people they know too
    4) the groom's procession (called baarat) is when the groom & his extended family and friends come to the bride's house/wedding hall for the wedding, no matter how far it is, they come dancing and singing, you'll often see hoards of people on roads dancing and singing while slowly reaching the wedding hall (you guys should watch some baraat videos)
    5) both the guy's and the girl's side prepare performances and often try outdoing each other
    6) people hire professionals wedding videographers, editors & photographers to capture everything
    7) the main events are - mehendi (where people make henna designs on the bride & groom and whoever wants to get it), haldi (where they apply tumeric on the bride & groom and others because tumeric is supposed to be good for your skin), sangeet (for singing and dancing although all events incorporate that in some amount, this is where the majority of it happens), and then the wedding ceremony (there's also several other fun rituals like putting the bride and groom's rings in milk and they both look for it by plunging their hands in the bowl and whoever finds it first is said to be the boss in the relationship, and one where the sisters of the bride steal the groom's shoes till he bribes them with money to give them back and many more).
hopefully someday y'all can do videos learning more about Indian weddings because they're a BIG part of the culture and very fun to explore!
