    That's one bad to the bone shower! Nice job! Wish I had stuck to my original plan and went with a 5 foot shower. I opted for the cast iron Kathryn basin. My door is on the way. Hope it's goes up easy!

    On the right and left top clamps, the directions say to drill diagonal holes. If I drill on any of the bottom two holes it would be in grout. Is it ok if I just drill the top two holes instead? Structurally will it hold?

    Hey, great video. I have a quick question how high does the top bar sit from the bottom? I know the glass extends a few more inches upwards. So basically how long is the side pieces?

    Do you have a problem with water leaking out of the bottom of the shower under the glass? I have read reviews on other Kohler shower doors but they were over 3+ years old so wanting to know if they resolved this issue. Also, is the height of the top track an issue for getting in and out of the shower? Thanks in advance!

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  7 лет назад +2

      I don't have a problem with water leaking out anywhere. The overlap between the doors has not been a problem, and the bottom metal piece has kept all the water in the shower. My old shower doors in a different house fit into the traditional tray, and those were messier because I had to clean them out from time to time. Because this is just a clean baffle, it wipes down easily and I can keep the bottom much cleaner.
      No problem getting into the shower--the top track is at the same level as a traditional shower door. These doors are 74" tall, and a section sticks up above the track.
      You'll be pleased, I'm sure. These doors are really fantastic!

      You did an outstanding install job. I will be calling Lowe's back. They just installed last week. One door is very hard to pull, it's flush to the wall on the top and not on the bottom. The shower pan "shelf" is 4 inches on the bottom, but yet they installed it so far in, the inside door is not on the ledge, if that makes sense. they are beautiful, but not the install I expected for the money I paid.

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you, Debbie! I'm surprised it wasn't installed well--I simply read and followed the directions supplied by Kohler, including the required set back on the shower pan "shelf." I'm glad you're calling Lowe's back. This is a premium product and should work smoothly and the weight should be a luxury, not a hindrance.

      Me again, watching your video again and another of an actual install to have some knowledge before I call them. My install is looking more like a mess. The doors at the top stop at the first bumper, not the one closest to the wall. The bottom, on one side only, goes to the wall. The other side, neither get to the wall. The outside of the track was installed almost 2 inches in, which is why I'm sure the inside door does not sit on the shelf. One of the "keys" I think you called it looks all chipped up. They didn't put a top plug on the top of either wall trim. One door does glide nice like yours, even though it's not even, the other, I'm afraid to slide because I have to use so much force, afraid it will fall out. I just hope it can be fixed without busting up my tile. Thank you for your review, because I can see how they "should" look.

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  7 лет назад

      If only one of the top two keys are in the top channel, slide the door to drop the other key in. The doors should be level, assuming the top bar is level.
      Secondly, the rollers are adjustable. Pull the chrome cap straight off, and loosen the screws a tiny bit so you can rotate the black roller piece. That may help a bit.
      Sorry you have such a bad install! Are you in Phoenix?

  • @stephenmanahanjr.7413

    The shower door tends to slide off and goes back towards the middle when I’m using the shower. Is there a fix for this? I recently moved to this property with this glass shower door installed.

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  3 года назад +1

      Put a level up on that top bar. I wonder if yours is installed out of level.
      Also, check online for the installation instructions. You may want to reinstall the doors if you find your frame is indeed level. My doors don't creep at all, so something is a touch off at your new house.

    Will this shower door work on a shower with one wall out of level?

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  6 месяцев назад

      Absolutely. Mount the metal strips on the walls level and plumb, and you're all good. You may need to shim out the piece that gets screwed into the tile. Add your shims, install into a bed of silicone, then snap the visible piece onto it, then fill the voids with silicone while you're caulking it. Easy peasy--make sure to use plastic shims, not wooden.

      @@DavePR okay, thanks. Can the doors be leveled too?

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  6 месяцев назад

      @@TheChavez1976 Yes, and it's even easier to just level the horizontal bar when installing. Fine tuning on the doors is also possible, but get that bar level first.

      @@DavePRCool, okay. One last question. So these glass doors don’t appear to close all the way, there appears to be a 3/8 gab between the glass door and the tile wall, I guess the black rubber grommet on top creates this space, right?

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  6 месяцев назад

      @@TheChavez1976 Right.
      These doors block splashes from the shower. They are not sealed tight. That said, I don't have a problem whatsoever with them.
      Just get the doors, shim the out-of-plumb wall, and then install the doors. You'll do great!

    Thanks for the great video! Is it necessary to install the bottom and side rails? I bought these doors and installing them next weekend,but I was wondering if I could leave out the bottom and side rails (not install the side and bottom rails) I want more of a frameless looking style. I am adding the plastic/rubber strip seals trim on the doors and on the bottom of doors (Plus I don’t mind cleaning any water that spills out when showering)Do you think not installing the rails will have any negative effects on the door system functioning?

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  4 года назад

      Everything is possible, of course. The top rail mounts on the side uprights, but those could be eliminated by mounting directly to the tile. With the addition of side plastic strips to seal to the side walls, you wouldn't get the splashing out, but the rubber stops for the doors up top would probably be eliminated to allow the doors to close further. You'd want to be careful closing these big sheets of glass so they don't break.
      The bottom center has a locator for the doors so they don't swing in or out, so that would need to be really well-secured to the shower pan edge.
      If you're good with a tape measure and get things perfectly level, you should be good to go hanging these, but they're HEAVY, so I'd be concerned about mounting the top rail really securely.
      Get a custom shower door person to install and you'll probably be fine, but know that none of that work, nor the doors, would be warrantied.

  • @kimcasey663
    @kimcasey663 4 года назад

    Yes they’re beautiful, but no place for a wash cloth or quick access to your towel. How about the wide gap between the doors without a way to control water splatters? They say to have inside door at shower head to avoid splashing in this gap, but then it splashes out from under the door. My floor towel was soaked. A skinny sliver of silicone attached to the back of the outside door would help with both issues.

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  4 года назад

      I know they make a unit with a horizonal bar handle instead of the blade handles.
      We like the clear wide open glass, but we also have a seat in there, and hooks on the wall.
      Regarding the water splatters, we do not have a problem with that at all. Nor do we have water running out onto the floor, and we have four young kids that sit in the shower playing with their toys trying to make a mess and we don't get it on the floor. It may be that your pan, especially if custom-built, doesn't drain fast enough for the lip-height. I put a small bead of silicon, per the instructions, where the bottom aluminum bar meets the shower pan and have not had a problem.
      Our door-bottoms are underneath the top of that aluminum rail. I wonder if your doors are too high?
      I'm surprised you have had a bad experience with these doors. I wondered the same thing as you have experienced, but have not had any problems.

    Does your door leak on the bottom

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  5 лет назад +1

      Nope. The bright aluminum bottom rail keeps the water in the shower pan. If you're experiencing leaks between the pan and the aluminum, that means the silicone caulk isn't complete. Clean the shower pan and aluminum really well, run a fan to dry it out completely, then seal up the missing caulk joints.

    I have these and they didn't place handles on either door, and after 3 yrs. the botton place came off and the doors are loose, also inside door does not move anymore and are out of line. I wouldn't buy them again, should last more that 3 yrs.

    • @DavePR
      @DavePR  5 лет назад +1

      They absolutely should last more than three years!
      I think your installer needs to come and make two things right for you:
      1. The handles stick on to both sides of the glass on both doors. There are four blade handles in all. The install kit has a template to make sure the handles are lined up correctly. I would imagine the packaging has been discarded by now, but there are four blade handles that were thrown out accidentally.
      2. The doors should roll forever on those huge wheels. I'm assuming you have cleaned all the dust and grime that accumulates on the track, in this case, the lower of the two tracks.
      3. If the track and the wheels are clean, then your track isn't straight, level and flat. I would guess it's twisted out of flatness somehow.
      4. The bottom coming loose lame. It is held in place by silicone on both sides and under the center piece that holds the doors apart. I would guess the shower pan was not completely clean before "gluing" these in place with silicone.
      Call your installer, or call Kohler and ask for a recommended installer. If you paid less than $350 to have these installed then that would indicate that you may have had the wrong person install them for you. If you paid $350-600 for the install, then call that person back and have them take care of you.
