Honestly, the most impressive part of this movie is how the opening credits is it’s own well-told story. The entirety of the credits is my favorite part of the whole movie because everything about it is well done.

I always found this movie funny growing up and I still do now.
And that part where Ramsley is taken down to hell is honestly an interesting twist. When you think about it, evil spirits in other movies tend to terrorize the main protagonists and kill the innocent people. Instead, they go after the villain who earned his spot in hell for what he did.
I think the evil spirits were unrelated to that fire elemental. The curse was broken when the truth was revealed and everyone would go to their afterlives, so the elemental was not summoned by Ramsley. It was sent from hell to collect him.

Nope! Not scraped. I'm here from the future to tell you that though Guillermo Del Toro is not attached there is a new Haunted Mansion movie coming out, directed by Justin Simien (Bad Hair, Dear White People).
The story they put of Master Gracey’s lost love always interested me. I wish the movie had been more about that or the origin stories of the other 998 ghosts in the mansion.

I completely agree with the Critic's on the casting of Madame Leota. They should have used Judy Dench or Angela Lansbury. Or better yet, compete the trio again with the current actress for Maleficent and Lady Tremaine, Susan Blakeslee.

8:30 Doug wasn’t wrong with that transition. It originally was supposed to lead into a flashback. That opening sequence with the party and the deaths of Elizabeth and Edward was actually supposed to be shown over a narration by Edward as Sara is told the story.

The Critic hit the nail on the head right out of the gate....Murphy was all wrong for this. But to be fair,I think any comedian would've been wrong for the lead. It's *The Haunted Mansion* ,not *The Zany Adventures Of (insert name here) In The Haunted House* !!!
You'd expect the comic lead to give his all in a movie,which is why Murphy didn't work. As a fan of the attraction and its trademark phantasmagoria,that's what I'd expect such a movie to be about. The cast playing the poor hapless mortals who just happened to wander in one day should be expected to take a back seat,story-wise. Take a look at the first *Pirates Of The Caribbean* movie...how many specific references to the actual ride are in it? By contrast,this film went out of its way to cram in as much of the Mansion visuals as they could,hoping the audience would transfer its love for the source material to this movie. It didn't work.

Maybe have the ghosts try to save the foolish mortals from the brides wrath? This movie is still a guilty pleasure for me, but I can admit it could be better.
I would really disney to take another stab (pun intended) at this. The haunted mansion is a storytelling engine, with it’s 999 Happy Haunts and just brimming with tantalizing hints of the many dropped plot threads that still managed to make it into the ride, and this is the story they come up with? I mean, come on, you can do better than that.

House so clean for a place that’s been abandoned since the 1840’s
Actually since 1881. According to a deleted scene and the scripts, the ghosts said the curse has been on the house for 122 years. Since this movie came out in 2003, that means the curse has been on the house since 1881.
But my guess is that Emma and Ezra were forced to clean most of the mansion when they were told Sara was coming. The only thing they pretty much didn’t clean was the spider webs seen at the entryway.
I’m more focused on 3 things. One, they still have electricity. With that, it leads to number two, phones still working. And three, they had food prepared for dinner. Where did they get the food? Even Jim said the chicken didn’t taste right.
The scene with the zombies actually was my favorite scene I also enjoyed the scene where they see the ghosts while riding in the carriage
IN a movie about a woman who is sort of (maybe?) the reincarnation of an impoverished African-American woman who was murdered for loving a white aristocrat, she is given no character and we focus on her douchy husband. This was written by producers.
But don't you know women don't see movies only men do. And kids don't see them either. So let's put all the focus on some guy in his business ventures, that's what men want to see. That really suits a haunted house.
It's called "We wanted to make money and got a hold of Eddie Murphy, and that's about as far as we planned before we started filming"

Depends on where it takes place in the greater new orleans area (where I live) people really don't have southern accents.
Maybe if the southern accent in the film wasn't so stereotypical. Most southerners don't have that stereotypical accent and we really don't need yet another film that makes it seem like we do.

The movie had such a strong opening. It could have been so great. The time and effort that was put into it when you watch the behind the scenes makes me sad to see this flopped with critics. They almost had it, but they fell off with the writing/dialogue the characters were given (and some of the casting). *sigh*
That being said, this movie is still one of my guilty pleasures haha!
Taylor G I feel like the movie could of been better had there been a better script. I feel like Murphy WAS a good choice for the lead. But if I were to change up the movie a bit. Maybe have Murphy do his shtick of playing multiple characters instead of one then I feel like the movie could of been better. One of his previous movies Vampire In Brooklyn has a similar concept to this movie with a lot of horror overtones but still comedy in it. And even though that movie also wasn’t well received, what worked in its favor is that it had Murphy play multiple characters and that made the movie stronger. I feel like that if Haunted Mansion has done this it could of been a bit better.
What made it bad was the bad writing. So the performances all felt forced. It had a good plot. And good actors but the performances were dry cause of bad writing.
It had its creepy moments, the opening, the zombies, Ramsey's death

This would be Tim Burton’s perfect comeback film if he directed the remake. Just make sure he doesn’t rely on cgi and bad scripts. Or maybe Guillermo Del Toro can make it at least the visual effects will be great.

I think the butler went to hell because it was revealed that he was an asshole. Cause it seems everyone in the mansion was linked to the main guy. Once he realized the butler was to blame, to hell he went.
I actually liked the scene with the singing busts. I didn't find it funny but I can at least appreciate that it featured the Dapper Dans of Disneyland. I could listen to them sing all day.
Those aren't the dapper dans, they are either the Phantom 5 of Disneyland and Disneyworld or the Sinister 6 of Disneyland Paris...
I see a lot of potential in this i always found the story with the love affair, the poison, the butler all very charming, though i do admit i found this funny and still do today but with more cringe,
To be fair Kevin Costner can be a good actor, I really liked him in Dances With Wolves.
In a funny way the boy from the beginning does have a point being there. Him dropping the newspaper had the ad for Sarah and Frank's real estate agent services on it, showing off Sarah's picture and getting the butler to invite her over.

But from what I've looked up, Disney wanted to control the entire production and Del Toro isn't the type of filmmakers to take that shit, so the project got cancelled. From what I've also heard, Del Toro took the original ideas he made up for his Haunted Mansion remake and utilized them for Crimson Peak.
