6:30 "which is why I would never live in a horrible, skanky old apartment like this" - that is incredibly snobby of you. Some of us don't have a choice but to live in these "horrible" properties.
I fully agree with you and stopped watching after this. Indeed very 'snobby' for "just an installer". Hopefully he realizes his mistake and make apologies to the people living there.
I was in disbelief when I heard that😂
Many average working class people all over the UK leave in property just like that. That type of electrical installation is not uncommon
No Jordon.
You get paid to do an EICR so list all the faults. You cant just say this needs a re wire.
these kinds of EICR videos are the reason i subscribed to this channel. It is always nice to see you snooping around looking for hidden dodgery. I like these videos: not a lot of fancy editing or stuff, just filming around what you encounter. Maybe you could make more of these?
Old style artisan video love it! No you can’t do 3 EICRs day correctly on your own if you do won’t be worth paper it’s written on
The 2.5mm twin and earth spurring from the cooker switch to a double socket via a fused spur under the counter isn’t a code 2. There is no potential danger at all. The cable is protected by the fuse down stream.
What about the 2.5 that feeds the fuse!? Definitely a C2
@@joncooper1831 nope as its fixed wiring with one point not a problem.
@@mikethemask1525 Regulation 433.1.1. - The operating characteristics of a device protecting a conductor against overload shall satisfy the following conditions - (ii) - The rated current or current setting of the protective device does not exceed the lowest of the current-carrying capacities of any of the conductors of the circuit.
Now assuming that the cooker circuit is on a 32 or 40amp protective device, the 2.5mm cable feeding the FCU is underrated for the protective device. Admittedly it is downstream of the cooker switch where the load would be connected and the FCU would prevent the upstream cable from ever having a load over 13amp BUT, the cable still forms part of the circuit so the regulation still stands in my opinion.
It’s like wiring a ring of just FCU,s with 2.5mm on a 60a MCB and saying that’s fine because the load on any one point can never exceed 13amps.
Of course, we can agree to disagree.
@@joncooper1831 An EICR is an assessment of electrical saftey, assessed against the current standard. It is entirely possible that an installation, or part of, does not fully comply with BS7671, but can still be considered safe for use.
In this case, the cable is not at risk of overload, and therefore poses no risk. You can’t C2 an observation simply because it doesn’t comply. There has to be a genuine potential danger.
At most, this is a code 3.
@@joncooper1831 I don't see that it is any different from wiring a double socket as a spur from another socket on the ring, in 2.5mm t&e. The maximum current that can be carried is 26A (2X 13A, limited by each fuse in the plugs) with a 32A mcb, which is the same as most cooker circuits. It may not be ideal or 'how I do it', but you wouldn't even comment on a spur off of the ring in that situation.
love the raw video style, just like the old days.
If you had not filmed it, I would not believe it. Good to see the terrible work carried out by some people. Good film Jordan. 👍👍👍
Very nice video as always great content thanks as always 👏😎🇮🇪
The only thing more dodgy than some of that DIY work is Jordan's camera work ;) Great entertainment to see how bad some places can be, thanks Jordan.
I'm going to have to stop watching it's so nauseating!
Had a job recently where T&E at every light fitting but found that there was no cpc continuity from the consumer unit to the lights..... joints under floors connected to the old rubber twin cable with no cpc.......alterations previously carried out by a registered sparks to those circuits did inform the client but carried on anyway as lights were class 2....
There is no chance of true testing being carried out if there are those that choose to ignore faults
Great vid as always :)
Thanks again!
I can’t believe what I’ve watched here. I turned off after the first property. No testing, all visual and just decided he wanted a rewire out of it.
💰 💰 💰
Congratulations on 200k
Doesn't it depend on the number of circuits per property and how easy it is to get to the points to how long it will take?
That bonding clamp on the micc is wrong for a start.
just curious what does the limited number of sockets in a room hve to do with an EICR? I'm in Australia I dont really know exactly what an EICR entails.
There is a guide to number of sockets. Also lack of sockets could lead to overload of one socket.
I see them installations quite a lot to be fair, once you start trying to sort out the problems loads more appear, constantly chasing your tail.
Thee properties Artisan are looking at are about par for the course. We specialise in domestic rewires, which necessitates a few of the dreaded EICRs. All of these properties need rewiring. IMO most houses need rewiring because they have all had decades of additions and alterations made by un-qualifieds, and the amount of remedial work needed to get these installations up to even a half decent standard is huge....and even then, you have no idea of what's frazzling away under floorboards on under loft insulation. the introduction of part P only seems to have made things worse, because it prompted a lot of older (but very experienced), time served sparks to give up the trade because they did not want to go down the road of registering with an affiliating body.....And the builders, plumbers etc that used to bodge their own electrics before are still doing it because NOTHING ever happens to them because nobody is policing it. And as for people who do several EICRs in a day on properties that are in the condition that Jordan is inspecting here need locking up. How can legitimate electricians possibly make a living when completing bona-fide EICRs (usually taking a full day, sometimes longer) but up against morons knocking out three or more a day, for an impossible £75 a pop?
For a strange and mysterious way still aren't enough problems and injuries...
Absolutely 100% correct mate.Part P was a backward step.
I'm not sure what to think whenever you see awfully dodgy stuff and assume it's DIY. I've seen licenced electricians do worse than sone of what you point out as DIY.
100% facts mate
On the first one that pyro sub main will go back to a ryfield cabinet in the landlords area and you’ll find a fuse there. As for what point do you give up? It’s probably about the point mentioned it to be honest but just do cursory testing on the rest of it just for the sake of saying to the customer you’ve completed the report. No point risking getting into it with the customer about payment for incomplete works.
That customer has probably had drive by EICR’s for decades so he may well be shocked by what you’ve found but at the same time he might have known full well and he’s been putting his tenants at risk for years.
Need to check the upstairs flooring too for 'bouncing' on EICRs
Why is it an issue over speccing lighting cable, ie 2.5mm instead of 1.5mm?
Interesting how everything bad must be dodgy DIY 🤔
So there aren’t any builders, plumbers or even actual electricians who do bad work? From my own experience of owning a couple of properties from new and one as second owner only 5 years after the property was built, some of the so called “professional” work was horrendous across all trades. Plumbing is definitely the most variable in terms of quality and bricklaying isn’t far behind but I’ve seen some clangers in the electrics as well.
Anyway, interesting video, thanks for sharing.
If your not a qualified electrician it is DIY
@@MCKINJO I disagree Gary - DIY stands for "Do It Yourself" which means you are performing some sort of trades activity on your own property.
It's not "DIY" when some rogue plumber drills through an electric cable and then bodges a repair with insulating tape and the wires twisted together, or installs a dodgy junction box under the floor. It's not "DIY" when an actual electrician performs sub-standard work either, or ends up installing a horrible, cheap consumer unit because the customer is on a very tight budget.
That was actually my point - that you can't say for sure just by looking at some sub-standard artefact that it must have been "DIY". It would be more accurate to just say that this artefact is sub-standard under regulation 123.4 and could lead to danger x, y or z.
@@craigchamberlain definitely a DIYer
Absolutely! Got it in one Sherlock! 😂
Job number 1 cant believe you opened the bill main fuse box as this contains asbestos, the flash guard for the fuse is asbestos and should not be disturbed
Nothing wrong with what he did at all.
The asbestos was not disturbed by opening the cover
@@swifty5783 lol, any fibres loose in the enclosure would be disturbed. Ask HSE they would be really interested.
You can do 3 EICR's if there are two of you! But not if you are on your own!!!
Eicrs should all ways be 2 people, but try telling employers that
Are the pendant light covers there exempt from the "use of a tool" reg?
Yes they are
Mineral insulated copper clad cable. Not conductors.
Not all bodges are as a result of a DIYer. In a previous line of work I had to test house wiring; I often found many faults. The amount of times I heard the words, "but my husband is an electrician"
One of the main things that really annoys me with rental properties is the mixture of fittings in nearly every room. No consitency, everything done on the cheap.
Really love the look of that property behind the stadium. *really* love the tiling in the kitchen, even though it's got potentially deadly switches xD
I would say that there's a rb4 box on the landing possibly given the age of it and points throughout.
Any property can be put right as long as the insululation resistance is good. For me it comes down to cost of remedials against a rewire & disruption to the client.
I don't quite agree. Some properties are so badly messed up you quickly get past the point of spending more time on tracing crazy faults than you would on a full reqire. I think CJR Electrical once had a house with what looked like a pot of spaghetti with junction boxes under every single floor board they lifted. Even just figuring out which cables were redundant took them far more time than it would have taken them to cut everything at the CU and rewire, weighing in all the copper. This property doesn't look too bad but by the time you start adding a decent number of sockets you might as well rewire the socket circuits.
You can do X3 eicr especially as you're not doing any testing and only do visual stuff!
Would it not be worth continuing the EICR to collect more data to justify the re-wire? Or is all the data you collected upto 20:58 enough to justify? Aussie sparkie.
No, only if you do them drive by style!
Hi there love the videos and was loving this one but I was sick of adverts coming on I stopped watching this one around 32mins and in that time there was around 8 so sorry but I ad to say about it hope the next ones are not like this one keep the good work up
We recently moved into a 1970s house and the wiring is horrible, just wish I had seen it all before we did all the work to it! First home problems 😪
I wouldn’t want to disturb that piro
how long do smoke alarms last until they have to be replaced in the uk
Mine all have a date on.. usually 10 years. But is that just to make you buy more?
It’s funny u get a 10 year battery but a 5 year guarantee 😂
Artisan: Reloaded 😂😂😂
Love it!
How do you charge for EICRs?
How long ago was this video recorded
2021 or earlier apparently if the Jan 2022 smoke detector was still good. I seem to remember a full EICR or remedial video on the large house with the old brass switches, might have been 2019 or earlier.
The video is actually a complete re-upload of a two-part series from July 2020, the original videos are still online and seem to be exactly identical, except for being cut into two parts.
I take it that these are being done in private rental properties?
I swear I've seen the first EICR in a video you've already got on the channel 👀
Property 1: Cut to basic insulation on the neutral tail showing exposed copper and you're busy poking around in there. Not much to protect you from a lethal shock other than an upstream 400A fuse! The tails should be double insulated all the way into the main switch
Property 2: Wiggles main fuse then pulls it, no arc flash protection or even gloves, 'Five * Electricians' can't be bothered to check the rating of the fuse
Gave up watching from there
You can't do three EICR's in a day if you're doing them properly, especially if there aren't any previous records. I allow a day for anything up to a three bed property as ALL accessories come off then a few hours report writing away from the property when you've got a clear head and can think properly about codings and recommendations, and the customer gets a detailed explanation in layperson's terms along with photos
You can't just give up on something because there are some bodge jobs and declare 'needs a rewire'. I could understand if there was VIR everywhere but I've inspected installations with the old tinned copper cable and they've been better than some modern ones
How'd you get a shock off of a neutral? I agree, not safe practice but I can't see any actual risk.
@@Ragnar8504 Treat the neutral as a live conductor and show it the same respect. If there was a broken neutral out in the street or a fault at the transformer, where would the current be going?
Love the vids mate but some people dont choose to live in horrible old skanky apartments like that. Disrespectful.
Well zero maintenance has been done for many years and now its all caught up with them, rewire or walk away. all three of them, at least for insurance purposes anyway
Your there to check on the condition of the wiring, not to rewire if ins res shows to be well within regulations . Number of sockets is only a recommendation, not in BS 7671 NICEIC condition requires a percentage of testing , no wonder you do 3 in a day
And people rent out shit like that !
A pound to a penny the landlord will just go for remedial repairs, not a full rewire
I seem to recall a point you made in an earlier video about not putting stuff on customer's surfaces & showing off your nice branded mats. Leave yours in the van? 😁
This was three years ago!
How can you not tell how old this video is 💀😂😂
@@Matt-td9wx I thought it was just a good hair day :D
That's why it's not good to go on you tube and alway pull down other trades mens because you work better be spot on blameless👍👍🧐🧐
With regards about how far to go, I’d ring the client and explain the situation and confirm weather they want me to continue with the EICR which in turn would cost them more money as I’m billing them for the time I’m there. They can choose to stop the EICR and I’d bill them for my time up until that point and just give them a quote for the rewire.
I wouldn't venture a rewire quote without finishing an EICR, but maybe that's just me.
@@lua-nya My customers appreciate it more when I’m upfront with them and try to save them time and money.
Why are you rewiring unless vir cable, practically anything can be put right if you know what you're doing
Exciting ??? I’ll be the judge of that
Oh gawd Jordan...paused at fourteen odd minutes in to say your camera work is making me feel nauseous..hope it improves or I'm not going to get through this video! Which will be a shame as it's very interesting.🤢
Same, had to quit watching due to all the camera movement :-(
@@x2brainsx yeah, I never did finish it...
This actual video is three years old, it was only uploaded recently, so it probably has gotten better
@@pointlessprocrastination oh well at least that explains it, thanks👍
Video idea: put nick bundy to shame and go into some crawlspaces
Many average working class people live in properties just like this one, they have not choice,😢
The real problem is could the dodgy wiring have been done by qualified electricians???🙂
could be the same problem with cars, how do you know the mechanic in the garage is not going to fuck up your car?
How lucky are you not to have to live in such an old skanky apartment, the same apartment you are charging to work in.
It’s someone’s palace.
He will work in the property to earn his money and slag off every body else
This is why it is not good to go on record slagging off every one work, yours better be perfect which aften isn't the case. Most trades men miss someout
Ring national grid, don’t poke your nose in.
Landlords getting work done to SUBPAR standards? Surely you must be joking!
You can do 3 Eicr in a day, but you will be packed for the day. No way that you can do more
It’s a “fluke” if you get the same reading twice !!!….
You can’t do 3 properly in a day. Not a 8 hour working day and actually having a break.
I think a full test you struggle to do 2 in 8 hours, by passing dimmers, metal sockets, smoke alarms etc for insulation resistance testing, r2 of bonding too all takes time. Employers take the piss with this
@@MCKINJO totally agree and that doesn’t take in travel time as well. Easily an hour in the day.
Working for some companies ten a day EICR or your fired
Babyface
Gomme Electrical call me 2 times for Price work they told me to change 3x15 way boards on single phase per day and they said we will pay 300£ per day including 20% and we pay 50£ per EICR including certificate said what?😳😳😳😳
Sounds about right to be honest, 360 a board and then an eicr to provide an eic for the new consumer units for 420 a day
You do 4 if you employed for those companies 🤣🤣🤣
10 a day or your fired👍
Cost of standard charges 50-60p a day, they should get this stuff updated.
see, this kind of nonsense you can try to monetise for members. not new vloggs - those are NOT added value... 🤦♂
