Man you must have a really good PC. Also the blocks are so big because normally they're 1 by 1 meter cubes and your character is 2 meters tall......so yeah your character is *HUGE*

If you are on minecraft hard mode that explains the zombies. In hard mode if you kill a zombie it has a chance to spawn more zombies, like a horde of zombies
