The opposite actually! You enter a game knowing full well you could lose, but you'd rather take the chance to win. Later you draw because you don't want to have spent an hour to lose points - your possible outcomes didn't change, only your previously invested resources did. So you base your decision to draw on previously fulfilled investments rather than possible outcome.
How does opportunity cost apply here?
Either way I always say "I play the game to win, not to not lose". Fuck draws!
You could spend 2 hours playing a game into over time. Or you could play three games that feel less exhausting. Anyways, what people say is “why play so long just to draw” but the length of time youve spent playing shouldnt be a consideration since its already happened
@@Weckacore Eh I guess, if "the game might take 3 more hours, I'd rather draw than do that" was an argument, then yes, the concept of opportunity cost applies. Imo that's rarely the reason for draws though, in my experience it usually is "I've fought so hard for this, I don't want to lose points". In this case the people voting for the draw would be the ones not understanding sunk costs.
Imo, not drawing is the right decision because it's the same one you queued up with, so we're consistent in our decisions. Even though the reasoning is, as you said, based on sunk costs.
Guess we disagree with each others reasoning for draws but we're both correct on our appliance on the concept of sunk costs 🤷♂
Edit: in short: some say "I played so long, I don't want to lose", some say "I played so long, I don't want to draw". Both arguments are based on sunk costs. People queue up because they want to win, so playing it out instead of drawing would make more sense for consistency.
