Thanks, my design on my 655 Filmosound Bell and Howell is a little different, but it's sort of liking looking at a simple jigsaw of how its component parts fit together, taking the pieces out needed to remove the belt, then replacing them again, so I'll give it an experimental attempt to repair it.
Thanks so much for this Mike! I'm considering the purchase of a 2592b and your videos have let me know what I'm in for. The owner says it runs well but I'm anticipating replacing the worm gear and belt. Is there an instruction resource for replacing the gear? I've worked on a number of vintage Dual turntables so am looking forward to this challenge.
I have thought of making a worm gear video a few times and I might still do that someday. Meanwhile just do a search on RUclips and you'll find a few videos to get you started. The original manuals are available, but very hard to read in my opinion unless you're looking for something super specific.
Thanks Mike for your reply. I picked up the projector. As suspected the worm gear has a few hairline cracks and the belt is slipping. There is also some squeaking which is the belt or other moving part. I made a video of it running here; ruclips.net/video/71nM6HB3Ym0/видео.html I'll likely order parts from Larry. Any other part I should look to replace? Guess I also need to get some film for testing :) Thanks again! -Steve @@mp5802
@@stevefoster2700 Steve, I believe the 2592b is a still-function machine. In your video, one can see the large solenoid that controls it (look just above the AC cord). You’ll probably see a lever on the front that controls it, and perhaps another one called “Directamotion.” They use a still-function gear, if one wants to preserve that function. Van-eck sells them made on 3D printers. Since still-function really isn’t used by film buffs nowadays, techs often strip out those components (I do) and install a normal gear purchased from Larry U. It fits, but make sure that you get setscrews with it - Larry sells them with or without setscrews. The gears and belts are the two most common problems, so you probably won’t need to replace anything else. The most important thing to get right (and most often ignored) is the sprocket timing. When you pull the old gear out, the timing will be disturbed and need an adjustment. If it’s not set right, the machine can shred film. Thank you Mr. Mike for the video. I am reaching out for a dear friend who is not familiar with RUclips or really the basic internet. He says he is not getting power to the main light bulb on the Filmosound #1535. He says he's pretty sure he needs the Amplifier Board. Do you know where I could get this part? Is this the same part you show in this video? Thank you so much for any help.
There is a projector bulb and an exciter bulb. If by "main light bulb" you mean the projector bulb, then no, that bulb has nothing to do with the amp. If the exciter bulb doesn't light even if you've replaced that bulb with a new one, then it is most likely a bad amp (but other things need to be checked - see my video on this topic). www.urbanskifilm.com sells amps (many kinds). I don't work on projectors much anymore. Good luck.
Hi Mike, thank you for posting these videos! My B&H 1535 projector sprockets stopped turning. Could this be because of the belt? It was the first time using it after finding it for a bargain at Goodwill. I was trying to thread the film and started it and stopped a couple of times. At first they were spinning but unfortunately they stopped before I could watch my film! 😢 Would you like to work on mine?
Take the back off and check the belt and gear. I'd replace both. I used to do these both for $300 labor plus parts and shipping, but I'm "retired" now. Good luck, and thanks for looking.
Do you know where I can find a motor capacitor for a b&h 1585 I fixed my first 16mm projector Worm gear and then I waited for a week for a new belt then I was watching a film then it starts slowing down randomly. I open the back cover then I see the capacitor deformed. 330 Vac 60 Hz I’m trying to find the MFD But it’s not stamped anywhere on the capacitor. Thank You
Yes, it's a pretty big job. But, by watching a couple of videos on RUclips, I did my first one in Feb. 2021. It took me many hours for that first one. I've now done about eight so far, but none recently. I am thinking of doing my own video showing how it's done. BTW, you absolutely will need some bristol screwdriver bits to loosen the setscrews (don't use allen wrenches), and you need to make sure the sprockets are timed properly when re-assembling the machine, or it will damage your films.
My friend found a service manual but YOUR video is SO easy to follow! Now, I can get my 1585 back and running!
Thank God you showed the best way to change that belt. Got a new16mm film and my best projector is my 1545! Thank you .
Just came across your video. Great demonstration, thanks.

THANK YOU MIKE---- I have been waiting for this for close to two decades!!!
You are very welcome.
Thank you so much for this video! 💘
Remove the old belt by cutting it with wire cutters and pull it straight out.

I do not, but you might send a message to Larry urbanski at urbanskifilm.com
Is replacing that loud and worn gear a hard job?

Clean the parts! Rust, dirt....Geez clean it up.
