  • 1290 Super Adventure S from KTM. I rode this bike for the first time and what a machine this is. Very much on the road riding side of big ADV motorcycle riding. So much power from the KTM 1290 LC8 engine. The 1290 Super Adventure S has a V-Twin engine with amazing power delivery in all its modes too.

Lucky enough to have worked at a dealership selling KTM, BMW, Suzuki and Triumph at the time. KTM in a nutshell... Fabulous performance in all aspects (handling, brakes, suspension and power/torque and tech) Ergonomically, they are roomy and well suited to taller men and women, preferably 5, 10 and above. I'd rate them at the very top ahead of BMW for the ability to make to make light work of any situation. I feel the WP suspension on most premium models is absolutely flawless out of the box. They have an uncanny ability of ironing out EVERY imperfection, road and dirt. It's purely witchcraft! Better than BMW?? I think so. KTM's make very rapid road bikes and are deceptively fast. The only negatives that you might want to consider is reliability and warranty issues. They were over represented in our workshop. Many waiting on parts to resolve certain niggles, mainly electronic. If you like the design/styling and your number one objective is "performance", I'd say just toss a coin and see what lands. At best, you'll get a cracking good bike to ride that eggs you on to act a little silly. At worst you'll curse the moment something goes wrong and learn why in Australia the acronym KTM stands for "Keeps Taking Money". 😁

Ktm 1290 sas you will never get bored with this bike awesome piece of equipment had mine remapped by bhp uk and what a smooth bike it is now more torque and bit more bhp at the back wheel less vibration through the handlebars.
Really good on fuel 65 mpg went to Maidstone kent from Cardiff 214 miles and still had 90 miles in tank this bike has surprised all expectations in everyway.

You should definitely try the GT! I did,and was pleasantly surprised, and I have the Duke R. If I’d test ridden one before the R I think I would have gone that route👍

I have over 10k miles on my '22 SAS. No issues so far. It made it through 200 miles of torrential rain riding from CO to OK and back to AR without stalling out. I was worried it wouldn't make it, but it chugged through without issue. I find 'Comfort' mode on the suspension is quite plush considering some of the roads in the US are in poor condition. Rally Mode is very intense and good if you wanna embrace complete hooliganism.

I would be to worried about reliability on KTM to buy one but as you said if it has no issues it’s an fantastic bike. Right now I wouldn’t buy one til they sort out all the issues 🤷🏻‍♂️

my 1290 lives in sport mode, you just need a smooth throttle hand. Put dirt tires on it, and it is as capable as the R model (I only do light off road) I love the electronic WP suspension and the adaptive cruise control, which is not on the R model. That said I put the radiator guards, sump guard,, crash bars lever protectors off the R model. Great tourer and light off road bike. As much fun as can be had with you clothes on

I have a 2022 SAS and a 2021 GSA. The KTM is much quicker but I really prefer the BMW. It's just the tool for long distance touring. I've put 2000 miles on the KTM and about 20,000 on the BMW.

If you are not doing long touring, super duke GT is better choice cause it is narrower and better suited for city riding. But if you want smoothness try BMW XR, it is not so insane as KTM :)
Next level above going to be multistrada V4 doing everything so well.

    • @kj385
      @kj385 4 месяца назад +1

The GT has tall gearing and puts off too much heat to be any good in the city. I had one for 5 years. The XR is plenty fast but also too vibey through the bars for me. The MS V4 is a great all rounder. But lacks the low end power and gas mileage of the SAS.

  • @robertstone6874

I never thought ADV bikes were attractive either, until I bought one. As a senior citizen, my motorcycle must be comfortable, reasonably quick and versatile. I’ve grown to like the styling of most ADV bikes, but a few are really odd looking. I like KTM, but their reputation for reliability would prevent me from owning one.

I’m laughing Alf …. You need to be careful riding all these KTM’s and BMW’s recently as that’s what I did after 20 years on Harleys and now I’m an adventure bike convert. Listen to yourself and in your words how much you “ enjoyed “ riding it. 😂 the seed has been sown …. Should you change the Harley ?? 😜😜😜😜

The Pan America automatically adjusts, dynamically... ARH
... and what do you mean PA lacks power... I don't think so (151 hp @ 7500, and 100+ FtLb torque)

@pa6793 , oh, the PA is my go-to bike 🏍; I have 2900+ miles on it going strong.
First adopters always whine... always. There were a couple of quirks before 2023; but the 2023 is perfection on two wheels... the bike is the top selling ADV brand in America at the moment.
