That’s a catch 22
I just bought one of these. Compared to the Multi-Strada that I got rid of:
1. Engine is more powerful but does not have that unique and glorious Ducati induction noise when opening the throttle.
2. Quick shifter is definitely better on the Ktm. The transmission overall is better with no false neutrals and it’s always easy to find neutral.
3. Overall electronics package is better on the Ktm with more options and customization.
4. Skyhook suspension on the Ducati is more plush in the street mode compared to the Ktm Street mode. Overall handling is similar.
5. Throttle response is better on the Ducati compared to the KTM, especially in the performance modes on both bikes. The Ktm‘s is a little snatchy.
6. Overall rider comfort is about the same on both pertaining to body position, wind protection, etc. The Ktm seat, however, is significantly firmer.
7. The Ducati, in my opinion, is a better looking bike. The Ktm‘s front end is ugly.
8. Ktm has adaptive cruise control. Non-factor for me because I’ll never use it.
I'll be looking at a Multi V4 Pikes Peak to replace my Superduke GT for riding with wife and personal rips. I should be OK---sounds like. Most shortcomings on Ducati improved and electronic features now added--plus Ohlins/looks
For the price....dollar for dollar I feel the same way. The v4 qs is not buttery smooth like the ktm. I like the Multistrada but it passes me off lol. Don't get me going on sygic lol
Wind protection is the reason I'm currently selling my multi 1260 pikes peak, its horrendous on this bike, have tried several screens in the last 17 months of ownership, including x-creen panels, literally nothing works, it's either rough turbulent air, loud wind noise, or both!, it absolutely sucks to say the least.
I rode the 21 SAS and a 19 SDGT last weekend, wind protection was night and day compared to the multi, clean non turbulent air on both bikes, the GT felt a bit better being you're more leaned into the he wind.
Also I found the longer travel ohlins on my pikes peak to be harder (and I've had it set up by a suspension specialist) than either of the KTM's, specifically the GT with its shorter travel shocks still coped better in the rough stuff than the multi PP.
Another thing to note on the SAS, the new switchgear isn't that great, the indicator is sharp edged and has no feedback/feel when pressing or cancelling, just a soft mushy feel leaving you having to look down at the dash every turn to see if the indicator is still flashing, terrible idea KTM, in the process of buying a 19 GT as prefer the older switch gear and colour schemes.
I feel the opposite on looks lol, funny how different people's opinions on that are. Personally love the way the front end of the KTM looks and to me the Multi looks like a falcon bumped uglies with a motorcycle. Damn thing looks like a bird

I just want to clarify something. This 1290 SA is in competition with the Ducati MS and the BMW GS. The KTM 1290 Super Duke GT is in competition with the BMW S1000XR.
I've rode a 1290 Super Adventure S and it will blow the doors of the GS. Very close to the S1000XR if not basically the same power.
Adventure bikes are naked bikes for dads imo, but they look cool
As a 40 years old Versys 1000 rider, I resemble that comment.
Or for people who want to do more than just ride around town trying to look cool

I love my KTM1290SAS, I do a lot of gravel roads. Put gravel tires on it and you will find it very off road capable bike. Wheels are the same size as the BMW GSA.

This is my do it all dream bike. I'm a hooligan who's maturing into adventure segment.
I bought a SAS today in Tulsa and rode it back to my home in the Ozarks in Arkansas. It's a big machine that makes cruising at 90-ish feel sedate. It's deceptively quick. I do miss the wire wheels and Pirelli STR tires of my trade (FTR 1200 Rally), but that will be a future upgrade. The adaptive cruise works really well.
That's my plan as well, buy the SAS and put spoked wheels and 60/40 tires on it. Best of both the R and S worlds I think. Was going to go with the R but since I spend a lot of time doing long distance I wanted the ability to adjust suspension parameters on the fly. Enjoy your new bike!
God I love KTM. I ride a 2021 350 EXC-F, before this I had a 2017 250 SX-F Factory Edition. My dad rides a '21 500 EXC-F, both our bikes have an FMF F4.1, and the 500 has a Vortec ECU. That thing is a beast!
The Super Adventure R is easily my dream bike
You can have the seat in high and low setting, you had it in high setting, so for shorter rider it can get lower
I had one and never had a problem with the height of the bike. It’s a beast to ride though

When Chase made his first mt-09 video, when you could buy a new mt-09 for 8000$, that was a good deal. Today I feel almost any purchase of a new bike is a bad deal.
I believe it's a good deal. I currently have a Multistrada v4s sport and a 2017 ktm SAR and I'll be adding this bike to the stable shortly. I don't sweat the tech pack. That work costs money and it's still a good value compared to the Multistrada. If we want ktm to keep bring cool stuff it costs r and d. I am disappointed that it has radar but....no blind spot detection like the Multistrada.

How’s the seated riding position feel on the knees? Say for a 32 inch inseam? Your thigh to calf looks about 80 degrees versus the ideal 90 degrees

I own a 2021 Euro SAS, which is the same bike you guys are getting in 2022. The turn signal button just takes some getting used to. What annoys me the most is that it's easy to bump the high beam button and accidently turn the high beams on, especially with thick gloves. After 8k km I finally decided that I just don't like the sound of the stock exhaust and I just ordered a new Pipe Werx can. Beyond that I feel that it could use a little taller gearing. My ZX-14 would hit 90 mph in first. The SAS has enough torque for some taller gears but I think they kept them short for off pavement use. And yes it is rideable off pavement with those 8" of suspension travel.
Oh, yes, also it has 20 hp less than the Super Duke but with the high center of gravity wheelie control probably throttles the power back to less than it's claimed 160 hp in most circumstances.
All in all I'm happy with it. I do most of my riding on twisty mountain roads here in Spain's La Safor region and this is a good choice for the kind of riding that I do.
Is it a good deal? I payed 20.500 € with the tech pack. I think that you get a lot for that price especially when comparing it against other premium bikes in the Adventure class. You will most certainly pay more for an equivalent R1250 GS and a lot more for the Ducati. So it's a fair deal I think but not a bargain basement motorcycle. I can afford it and I have no complaints about what it cost me. But someone on a tight budget might do well looking at a less expensive but still high quality Japanese bike.

So, this is the high tech brother of the Super DUke R that Doesn't try to kill you? I'd like to see you try the off road focused version, and go on a dirt road or something. You should do more adventure/dual sport bikes.
OC I think its worth it. Very high tech. how much is the Multistrada with the electronic suspension and cruise control (adaptive?) I think it competes with that bike.

Didn’t really think of this bike until this video. Was looking at the XR but being able to go off road even just dirt trails or fire roads. Didn’t know it had that much power either. Pretty close to the XR in HP with a ton of torque.
In a drag race the KTM is also fast thanks to all the torque
This bike's competition is not the BMW XR it will be the BMW GS/GSA. The XR competition will be the KTM GT.

Struggled long deciding between the 890R and this one. Might seem odd as they are at fairly opposite ends of the ADV spectrum. I ended up going for the 890R because as a former 990 owner, I always swore if KTM ever came out with a similar package with similar or even slightly less power but 25 kilos lighter, I was all in (the 950 Enduro was a bit too hard, impractical, and waaay too tall when it was still available). I think the choice was correct, especially given the price of gas right now, but every time I watch a video like this I do start second guessing myself a bit.
I put a deposit down for the 890, but instantly started second guessing myself thinking I really want the 1290 instead... I honestly don't know what to do.

This is adventure bike class, multistrada/GS. The bmw xr is sport tourer which would be against ktm gt a much more aggressive animal, a lot is engine choice V twin punch or inline4/v4 smooth, all very fast depends how you want your power, most premium bikes are very very good these days, we are lucky there is so much choice, if you have the money!

You missed out on the best part about this bike. Riding the twisties!!! Trust me when I say you will be amazed on how fast you can ride this bike. The suspension and motor were made to go fast.

Adventure S. With a 70/30 tire it is still quite capable offroad. Even with the 90/10 Mitas it can still do okay.
As an owner of 1290 superduke, I'm sure this engine can put smile on anyone's face.

@@oldhead_ I ran into radiator fan failure problem, so had to wait for a new fan to arrive (waited 2 months), but other than that it's a great machine.

Chase, always loved the channel, but dear God PLEASE FIX THE AUDIO DURING THE CAMERA GUY TAKES! It's painful at the volume I typically watch your videos and have to actually turn it down. I understand why they sound the way they do, and that they're part of the sponsor, but at least edit out the terribly sharp spikes and maybe add a disclaimer or something. It is almost to the point of an ironic anit-ad!

I just sold my 2019 TS (Lol) for a Road King Special. I wish I could afford both, the s10 really is a great bike.

If you go whole hog and get everything it is around $900. Which is a lot, but we'll worth unlocking.

Not sure what is more dangerous, the 40 - 80 pull, where you actually slow down in the inside lane! Goodness!!! Or ride at 130 plus. My instinct for self-preservation tells me that the 40mph manoeuvre is suicidal, and much worse. Beau, with his tough love, and loathing of speed being a cruiser fan, is actually putting you in more danger.

@@scottieray Thanks, It was just that I configured one on the ktm website and the image emailed to me showed the bike on a paddock stand.
Unfortunately the ktm height was a deal breaker.

Why KTM’s put those ugly exhaust on their bikes? All the bikes are good looking but the exhaust is just so ugly.
That suspension adjustment will be good to accommodate more riders. ADV bikes are typically turn offs for shorter riders because they are so tall, but now it opens it up! Chase, would you say you'd need to be at least 5'2"???? :-)
