100% agreed on the liner socks. It was a big improvement for me when I went from one heavy wool sock to a liner + medium weight merino while backpacking.

Those really expensive 20 or nowadays $30 wool socks make an excellent Christmas gift. It might seem cheesy buying a pair of socks and somebody for Christmas but they know what they're looking at. They will be appreciative.

Crispi Nevada, the Guide which I have and the Hunter are my go to mountaineer boot. The Hanwag is right there with it. Always coating and treating the leather and rand and either company will last forever.
When archery elk hunting in Colorado. I wore gaiters and waterproof boots that were well broken in. My feet were soaked, especially hunting all day and into the evening. They never had time to dry out.
yeah, that's not too uncommon. Having an extra pair can help a bit

"They can all go to hell" 😂 I agree. Keeping gravel and pine needles out of the boots is well worth wearing gators when it's dry
Another way around gaiters is, have a shoelace eye on your pants, or side ties, then wax the lower sections of your pants. That way, your pants don't get wet from the outside, it's cooler, it stays tied to your boots.
The gaiters in really cold can add some more warm comfort, but I choose not to take the weight.

Hey Cliff - excellent video as per usual! Question: as someone who runs hot (especially my feet), would you recommend going with a leather lined boot that I treat with wax vs a boot lined with GTX for early season? All my passed experiences with GTX is that they cause my foot to sweat even when they're cold... Thanks in advance!
Hey Elliot, for what it’s worth I sweat in all my boots, even my breathable early season stuff. I think some of us are just “feet sweaters” haha. I deal with it my using fresh liner socks and taking the time to let my feet dry off in camp - I wear crocs like shoes if the temps allow. Hope that helps.
military trick = use antiperspirant on your feet, this can work wonders in colder temps too for keeping your feet warm by keeping them dryer. Give it a try on some day hikes locally first to see if it works for you. The other is always keep spare socks in the pack and if hiking into a stand spot then keep the heavier stand socks in the pack and be sure to switch into those once arriving on stand.

I got a question here for the more mountaineering boots what about archery stalks with them are they too stiff to get the job done? Now I know archery stalk shoes or barefoot but any experience in these? I like sub and above alpine mule deer black tail hunting m. I run pack goats so no crazy all day heavy loads sept pack out but I get in nasty rugged terrain
You can use them, the stiffer the boot in general the harder to be super quiet.
