@ love the original, when I first went to Japan I found the models then out of curiosity I watched the first episode of the original series then I binged it xD.
I use it as a long range first strike weapon. It's fantastic as filtering out all but the heaviest of armored targets. It works great with the rocket or auto cannon sentries as those excell at anti heavy. It is a proactive weapon. If you take it you should be hunting down crowds not reacting to them. Scout armor or the uav booster can help you detect crowds before they become a problem. Since the weapon is so good at its job when used right, the rest of your build should focus on anti tank and general use. If you pair it with anti tank mines you might be able to use the air burst to set off the mines and create a damage field where nothing will survive.
I agree, and I've been finding tremendous success when combined with Rocket Sentry, Strafing Run and EATs, the first two are amazing at covering you when reloading the Airburst. EATs for the long-range anti-tank, which synergizes well with the long range Airburst playstyle.
2:03 As you generally wanna detonate the airburst above the hordes. You can target harvesters with cluster to precisely have the rocket explode above voteless and overseers without relying on flak or timed detonation
Ah yes, the Cowabunga Tube as my Aussie mate calls it. A great weapon in the right hands, honestly. It can be a massive lawn mower of a weapon when it's not panic-fired. 😄
Bot trooper on patrol:"Sir, what do we do if the Helldivers fire an airburst at us?" Bot commisar:"Well trooper, standard procedure is to jump 200 feet into the air and scatter yourself over a large area."
Omg, finally Everyone has been sleeping on the airburst while I was learning to love it when it was stealth buffed (yes a stealth buff, when the frag grenades damage was buffed to 500 it buffed the bomblets the airburst shoots because it has the same damage ID) The airburst is an amazing weapon I just wanna say thank you for going over a lot of tech with the airburst because most other people would have just glossed over that Airburst is my love ❤️
The major benefit of the cluster is it can kill patrols and groups of enemies quickly. That is especiallly important on the terminid and bot front where if you take too long to kill the grunts will call in back up
The recoilless can drop anything instantly with practice and timing, but the airburst is the only weapon that ive seen turn bug hordes and bot patrols into non-threats. It wont kill big enemies very well, but its ability to mulch anything lesser for AT squadmates to mop up ianything big that survives brilliant.
@@joshuasmyth3115 this is exactly why it’s under rated against Bots. This blows away Troopers, Devastators and Scout/Rocket Striders and can even kill Hulks with a skillful shot. This lets your team mates with dedicated Anti-Tank do their thing without being hassled.
i learned that the airburst *can* kill hulks if you can get the rocket to land right behind them, the airburst will hit the vents and fuck them up. the same goes for the orbital airburst.
In all honesty the airburst is really solid weapon rn, clearing hordes very efficiently HOWEVER This weapon will always have the arc thrower/grenade launcher effect where I will be giving you the major side eye during the entire dive, that thing in the wrong hands will make me into a solo diver real quick
This was my go to for automatons for awhile. Especially useful for patrols getting a little to frisky with your teammates, you can be the overweight female friend at the bar to say "shes not interested" as you fire a *reply all* rocket at those commiebots. The patch where they made the thing not proxy detonate on corpses 100% saved this beast
My bug-cluster-destroyer 2000 Still figuring out how to effectively use it against the Automatons, I was told flak mode gives it a better chance to have the custer balls explode near or at exposed vents which is something I'm gonna try next time I log in. Thanks for letting me know about the "Shoot into the air with cluster mode for a ring of explosions around you" thing.
It's probably best suited for knocking out automaton patrols and fortified positions. The main thing is that you don't want the foot soldiers to call in air support
Firing it and scoring big numbers on low visibility missions and on the cluster of red blips around walls when referring to your radar is the best feeling with this thing.
To cut it short. The Air Burst is literally a infantry version of the Eagle Cluster Bomb with a more "controlled" outcome. If you know how to use it you can clear an entire patrol of light and medium armored targets with one rocket. Once you master it you can easily know when to pull out the rocket to use it effectively with minimum friendly fire and the sheer amount of mobs you can clear is staggering. At minimum you can easily kill 10 enemies with one rocket and can go as high as 30-50 depending on your mastery of it. One good example is on Automaton mission when you need to destroy a Jammer Aim the cluster rocket at slightly above center of the base and watch your kill counter go wild. Make sure you have thermite as your load out to kill any heavy enemies in the base but 80% of the initial ads should be cleared if you aim the rocket well.
I've started experimenting with the ABRL again, seeing if I can make it work for me. One thing I've noted so far is that I feel its usefulness is somewhat dependent on the terrain you're going to be fighting in. The weapon really benefits from long, open sightlines, allowing you to hit groups before they can potentially close in unnoticed. I brought it onto the heavily forested Gaellivare, and while I did find some good uses for it, I often found that I would become aware of a bot patrol, hidden by trees, only after they were too close to safely fire an airburst rocket at. I suspect I'll be able to use it to greater effect on biomes with more sparse vegetation.
Good airburst vid. Not usually the best pick, but definitely one of the most fun :) Just keep it off Flak mode on forested planets, for the love of Super God. So many little enemies hiding behind foliage
The reason why a lot of people, including me hated it when it first came out was that the proximity trigger could go off on just about inanimate objects like trees and rocks. The funny part about that is the planet type it ended up being free on before we could buy it had a lot of both so it ended up being a very explosive way to end up on the wall of martyrs.
I think of the Airburst as a Janitor, it sees all those little disgusting light enemies and in one sweep cleans the entire field squeaky clean. That is until you find an elite enemy which proceeds to roll you up and send you back to stage one wondering why Airburst was the support weapon you brought to the game.
What's the Airburst? Well, it's simple. It deletes patrols, and without the silliness of allowing that patrol a chance to call for help like an MG or Cluster Bomb stratagem ball would. It used to destroy Bot Fabricators from any angle too just by hitting the open lid above the vent, not sure if it still does. I'd test it but I'm, uhhh... not allowed to use it any more in my group.
THE best crowd control weapon in the game if you can use it. On flat maps or places where enemies get funneled this baby is second to none. Patrols, breaches or drops blast it above their heads and they're gone. Find a vantage point and blast bases and nests from afar to clear stuff out without the need of direct line of sight. Spread democracy missions and geo survey gets way easier with the airburst. That and an AT emplacement and the other two teammates can watch memes in peace. Scored 77 kills with 3 shots against the bots yesterday. Pretty impactful given the entire squad had all strategems on cooldown. What you do need is 30 meters to a target and if there's a player tag on screen.. don't pull the trigger. So jungle maps are a bit tight, city maps are ok.
I use cluster as a way to direct fire at mid-close range without it activating early, I’ve used the weapon for a long time. The weapon works best when you’ve got a friend with AT, so you pop the shields and clear the chaff, your friends finish it off. It also looks awesome.
I'll typically run MG and EAT sorry to say the airburst's burst damage and low ammo doesnt really work for medium pen either, the MG can be whipped out to delete meduim pen when your primary starts bouncing and can be very ammo efficient, dumping an entire airburst wont be the same effectiveness It feels like it needs more ammo to really work, its basically a mini strategem with its wide damage range The thin hitboxes of the voteless are where the MG will struggle by missing shots between people, the airburst if used smartly could be good but have an escape route so ammo can stay stocked up, maybe even drain a city of its voteless before eliminating the points of interest as fast as possible, those city walls have gotten a lot of divers killed and ammo runs low if you cant use good swarmclear
I've been an Airburst Angel from the start. It's role is offensive. Take the hurt to the enemies at range. It works best against the Bots imo. It destroys enemy outposts in just a few rockets and takes care of whole patrols in a single shot! Even Hulks aren't safe from them. They only struggle against tanks and factory striders, but they have to be summoned in by a small trooper. And troopers don't last very long against the airburst.
It's probably my favorite stratagem weapon in the game, as I really like killing all but the heavy stuff in one well-placed shot. My teammates tend to go for the heavies anyway.
Picked up the Airburst again after watching this video (Last time I used it was when it was released), did incredibly well against bot drops. The Flak option is quite good for Gunships if needed as well. I'd still pick the Grenade Launcher over it if I had to pick the 'better' weapon, but it's nice alternative when I need to have a break from the norm. Unfortunate downside is that my entire squad witnessed me using the Airburst, and now are trying to mimic me thinking it's a secret 'meta' option (I have the highest playtime and rank of my friends), causing many unintended friendly fire incidents
In flak mode it's preferable to shoot overhead of the enemy for ground targets so that when the proximity triggers the projectile is closer to the enemy, top-down wise. I rarely have a reason to use cluster.
Ok when I was trying to use this weapon for the first time it was because I was looking for something to help me with the illuminate hordes. This weapon absolutely cleared when you could hit the shots. Also cleared teammates too but that’s probably because I couldn’t figure out how to switch it to not explode on the first lifeform it senses (me).
I remember first using this weapon, then when i tried to place a map marker i killed myself and 2 of my teammates, its funny in hindsight but i felt horrible at the time
Airburst is a skill check weapon. And I don’t mean aiming. I mean situational awareness. This weapon is a workhorse in a well coordinated team. However it’s a liability with gung-ho randoms.
the flak mode is more of a misnomer and a misrepresentation of what it should be used for (if you wanna use your ammo effectively). it just turns on the proxy fuse for the cluster bomb, and shooting it at flying enemies results in most of the bomblets just falling to the ground with really only the initial aoe from the cluster bomb detonating dealing damage to the enemy you've shot and a bit more if you're lucky. compare this to the autocannon's flak mode where it deals aoe and shrapnel damage (actual flak) to anything close, AND it has a looot more ammo. ultimately, you CAN use this to shoot down an air target, but it's a humongous waste of it's ammo when it could have taken out a whole horde with that same round. there's much better options out there for taking down air targets efficiently. the flak mode excels in long distance support of teammates or clearing hordes outside the range of the cluster mode. now that i think of it, cluster mode is also a misnomer considering both fire modes are cluster munitions.
Airburst is so fun! It can effectively oneshot most patrols if you shoot it right, and it allows you to do crowd control at great distances. See a distant patrol coming? Delete button! All joking aside though, it is hands down one of my favorite weapons. Paired with an EAT or commando, it can make a super fun build that can effectively deal with any target thrown at you. The airburst also wipes out groups of chaff enemies in one shot, compared to other crowd control weapons that take multiple shots. This may not seem like a big deal, but if you wipe out an entire patrol or outpost then there is no time for them to call in reinforcements. Versus stuff like the grenade launcher or machineguns, if you are not careful then a hidden enemy can call for reinforcements and really throw a wrench in your plans.
Used it on bugs during first release, man was it satisfying hitting those fat 80 kill bursts. Only bad part was hitting the bugs like a mile away so you don't kill teammates or yourself
would love to see the commando covered by yah, have been loving running it against bots, feels like the expendable but with a little more choice of impact,
the "medium pen killer" role is always reserved for a primary weapon in my opinion. getting a dedicated support weapon that cant kill heavies and has the same reload time as a recoilless for example, makes it just a bad option. I still like this weapon though, even if its a literal waste of a stratagem
Its only a major thing if youre playing illuminate, and even then because of the close ranged nature of the cities you DON'T wanna use a cluster bomb right infront if yourself lol
I have to disagree. There are plenty of options for dealing with heavies when it comes to it. Don't forget 70-80% of enemies are primarily made up of light and medium enemies. With the democratic detonation war bond you even have access to thermite grenades that can easily kill a heavy enemy with only one nade furthermore they don't need to be aimed at a specific spot to kill them accept for the super heavies. There are plenty of offensive strategems as well for you to utilize and that can deal with heavies unless one sucks at throwing them. What I am saying is that if there are already 2 or 3 team mates carrying AT options to deal with them primarily then make sure you at least fill the role of reliable crowd control. You have 3 other slots that can be used to fill out the AT/Base destruction role.
I really like the airburst but man is it inconsistent. The damage output is potentially absurdly high; like the airbursting autocannon you can use it around walls; and it can do crowd control, anti-heavy, and base clearing; but it just doesn't perform consistently at anything. Sometimes one rocket clears a light outpost, some it takes five, sometimes it'll bring down a gunship or charger, sometimes it won't. I feel like if it could get into a groove where it did anything consistently this thing could genuinely rival the autocannon for sheer versatility, especially now that its reload speed has been buffed from where it was on its release, but it's just a hair off from greatness.
My first time using the cluster bomb mode I killed a Harvester/tripod with it. Apparently flak explodes on the shield but the cluster bombs pass through it 🤔
2:55 the RR can do crowd control now in HE mode, not as wide a radius as the airbrush but Luke how aurbusrt is crowd control with limited anti armor the RR is limited crowd control with good anti armor
airburst would be so much better at medium chaff clearing if it didn't have a backpack reload. all the other backpack support weapons are dedicated anti tank so it makes sense but the airburst just gimps you for no reason. being able to pair it with the jump pack and having a faster reload (or give it like 4-6 shots and make it expendable like the commando) would make it goated as a bug scouting support.
No this weapon is actual gold when it comes to illuminate missions. Running this is so cool, when you see a horde two blocks away in a city street and light it up with this missile launcher. Nothing survives.
Patches and recent Cluster buff turned this from the second worst Strategem weapon to an okay but still weak Strategem weapon. It's basically there for people who want Cluster Bombs but not deal with Eagle limitations.
My main issue with the thing is that theres so much opportunity cost to using it that a vast majority of rhe time literally anything else is a better pick.
like 99% of weapons and strategems it's just worse at everything than the actually good 1%. If you want crowd control you can pick items that do more crowd damage without teh danger and downsides and wonkiness. If you want damage on big targets, like lmao why wouldnt' you just take the Recoiless or AC, or if you want a free backpack slot the quasar Arrowhead is really good at releasing one gg weapon and then bloating the game with 100 nerfed inferior options you'll never use. For example, let me remind you that MINES ARE IN THIS GAME and they still chainreaction themselves, deal insufficient damage for their purposes, zone you out of areas, and have the SAME COOLDOWN AS AN ORBITAL LASER
ALSO I DONT HATE THIS WEAPON, I just suck at it LOL
What is your favourite Gundam series?

The damage output is potentially absurdly high; like the airbursting autocannon you can use it around walls; and it can do crowd control, anti-heavy, and base clearing; but it just doesn't perform consistently at anything. Sometimes one rocket clears a light outpost, some it takes five, sometimes it'll bring down a gunship or charger, sometimes it won't. I feel like if it could get into a groove where it did anything consistently this thing could genuinely rival the autocannon for sheer versatility, especially now that its reload speed has been buffed from where it was on its release, but it's just a hair off from greatness.
Best thing in pvp
Nice one man, maybe I'll try using it sometime
Folks with low situation awareness need not pick this up.
I like it the most for the evacuate high value asset missions
It's a meme gun for sure. But a fun one. Now I just need a space Ak
Space ak! in the russian theme warbond XD
new sickle melee weapon.
My first time using the cluster bomb mode I killed a Harvester/tripod with it. Apparently flak explodes on the shield but the cluster bombs pass through it 🤔
just the airburst being wonky XD noted.
This video could be a drinking game :)
*Dies*
2:55 the RR can do crowd control now in HE mode, not as wide a radius as the airbrush but Luke how aurbusrt is crowd control with limited anti armor the RR is limited crowd control with good anti armor
Coulda used like 60s more after the med pen discussion was approached..
Yeeeea i tried it once and immediately l killed my whole team 😬
Awkward when you all respawn
@@TheGundamBoi very lol
The airburst is great, I’m just tired of people trying to kill hulks and other heavy armor enemies when it’s two feet from them
its like reflex or something XD
Yeah I bring thermites and 110s for hulks, factory and tanks. It can kill hulks, just not perfectly
It’s cool. but the grenade launcher exists
The wasp is also great against bots and squids.... Have not tried against bugs yest
airburst would be so much better at medium chaff clearing if it didn't have a backpack reload. all the other backpack support weapons are dedicated anti tank so it makes sense but the airburst just gimps you for no reason. being able to pair it with the jump pack and having a faster reload (or give it like 4-6 shots and make it expendable like the commando) would make it goated as a bug scouting support.
Ah yes, The Airburst. Casualties in a Can.
No this weapon is actual gold when it comes to illuminate missions. Running this is so cool, when you see a horde two blocks away in a city street and light it up with this missile launcher. Nothing survives.
Same with the bugs
That’s cool and all but the grenade launcher exists.
@@bigpapapurplethe grenade launcher is not sniping patrols 2 blocks away lil bro 🤦♂️

If you want damage on big targets, like lmao why wouldnt' you just take the Recoiless or AC, or if you want a free backpack slot the quasar
Arrowhead is really good at releasing one gg weapon and then bloating the game with 100 nerfed inferior options you'll never use. For example, let me remind you that MINES ARE IN THIS GAME and they still chainreaction themselves, deal insufficient damage for their purposes, zone you out of areas, and have the SAME COOLDOWN AS AN ORBITAL LASER
Still trash weapon...
