Bad ass!!!! This is exactly what I want to do to my Chevy express van. Try to use everything you did but for my application and make it work so it doesn’t have to be so expensive.
If someone is wanting a 1/2ton sas I swapped in a dodge D44, I based the swap on my suburban off of #tahoverlandingaxleswap I even picked up some parts from him.
It is complete now and I’ve been daily driving it. And I agree they’re awful but at least now I can just buy aftermarket ford arms and not have to worry about building a set or paying crazy prices for conversion ones
I couldn’t justify spending that kind of money on something that I’m just building for fun and has no real purpose, if I cared about this being a super nice show quality truck I would’ve went that route. Again this is just something to prove to myself that I can do nearly anything I set my mind to in a very little budget
Hey man I'm planning on doing something very similar, I wanna swap a dana 60 and a 12v cummins in a sierra 3500 2005 (not dually). Would you mind sendings me pictures of how you arranged the drive train for 4 wheel drive? Pictures of the underside would be very helpfull ! Awesome build btw
On your coil buckets, is it just the 4 holes welded up to the frame plates or did you get behind the coil buckets on the frame plates and weld them up?
@@12valve Okay, got it. Thanks for posting this by the way. I have the same truck and front axle. Been looking at WFO and Barnes 4WD for front linkage but their prices are up there. I was told (by WFO I think?) that retaining the stock radius arms would not be an option due to caster correctness being impossible to achieve. How are you getting 4wd to operate? Someone else did the same SAS and engages 4wd with the Ford vacuum I think (turned on with Chevy push buttons). Did you get your cross-member done yet? Would love to see a finished tour of your truck.
@@themichaelholdren you can definitely achieve the right caster they just want you to buy their kit. A lot of people have done the same thing as me there just not a lot of documentation of it. Also I haven’t had time to get the 4x4 or even the front shaft finished yet so that’s to be seen. And I’ve got a very crude crossmember in place but I plan to fully box in my frame and redo several things while doing that. I should be able to do a good walk through of the truck in a month or so, just have too much going on
@@12valve okay, that's good to know about getting correct caster with the Ford radius arms. Your video is VERY helpful, thanks again for posting this. Good luck with the build, can't wait to see the progress you make.
Well from my testing and driving it has more than enough travel for what I need it to do. I’ll try to have someone help my get a good video of it this weekend, I don’t have a tripod or any good way to film it on my own. But this isn’t a off-roader or anything, I don’t need a ton of travel for daily driving
I give you major respect you had the balls too jump in with both feet! You live and learn and God. Bless u brother..
I appreciate that, thank you!
this is awesome wish you had filmed the whole process

I'm proud you're on the way to having a complete sas cat eye but, imo those radius arms are just terrible and really protrude from under the frame

you should have bought the whole WFO kit, it would have been a cleaner install and you would not have had to fab up mounting points

You also have locking hubs with the ford setup
Yes

Getting it done get it driving than clean it up nice

They’re welded all the way around the outside, I wouldn’t trust just those 4 holes. Those were just factory rivet holes I filled in
Do you think that is strong enough with some pretty decent welds all the way around should it hold under stress ?
Did you make your own motor mounts?
What is your wheelbase now??
Pitman arm part number?
Sick
Even ugly welds can be strong enough !
What was your solution for the ABS sensor?
My abs unit is bad, and it’s unplugged anyway. So I didn’t do anything with it
