I had no problems with your audio other than the volume was very low but I think it was my device. Very crisp and clear now. Thanks for the update on the clay. At one point I was getting green spot algae very badly but after adding a bio bag to the filter
and a few fine mesh bags of OilDri on top of the UGF it has disappeared. Happy New Years to you. You have given another years worth of videos with great info!👍🇺🇸

Can you find OilDri or SafetySorb? It is made of hard baked clay and used in garages to clean up oil spills and other chemicals.Make sure what you use is unscented.

Hello Dr Novak , that is so interesting about that nuisance algae. It must be really bad to affect housing prices. The people living there will be very happy to hear about the successful clay experiments. I thought your message to your channel audience was very uplifting and inclusive to everybody. The Betta fish is looking beautiful and Mrs Betta is hiding from us unfortunately! I agree with other comments that your sound quality is very good ( though I never have had any problems hearing you in the past ) . Perhaps people with English as a second language might find this microphone a lot clearer ? Happy holidays to your and your family and fish family . Let me put it this way. It is so bad that it actually blows off the ocean, and then actually makes people sick and once that was found out the prices of the homes begin to drop.
The female Betta looks very bloated/fat, but I did go to the pet store and looked and their females Betta's and they look the same way. Very bloated. How is that Soylent plus spill control substrate/clay working for you?
I just saw an interesting video demonstrating that clay had a negative charge: ruclips.net/video/s4HoRtqhPOM/видео.html I'm fixing to pick up a bag of Safetsorb (about $8.00 at Tractor Supply for 40 lbs) and I'm going to try that same experiment. I'm also going to try it in a BCB with Flourite red and see how that does in a heavily stocked goldfish tank.

Hey Dr novak the audio sounds great thanks for another great video all 33 of my aquariums are using the slow moving plenum and yes it works fantastic here in the UK I can't find baked clay cat litter for love nor money but I have tried all sorts of substrates from fluorite red used a clay bonsai medium tried zeolite but found that drops the pH too low I have used plain pea gravel used fluval stratum tried aragonite crushed coral and out of all my tanks using a wide mix of mediums I found the (KITTY DAMMA) bonsai medium had the best plant growth but all the tanks are healthy fish are breeding no unusual live barer deaths its just a fantastic filtration method thank again
I am in the UK too and I have had trouble trying to find baked clay. I am using a non baked clay and fluorite red and so far everything looks good.

This is my fifth mic now, hopefully this one will pan-out to be the best.
Here in Israel we have cat litter that does not crystallize and is not perfumed only from a material made of bentonite. And it hardens the water to illogical levels (very high)
Here in the USA our kitty litter, sometimes the kitty litter lowers the pH to the water too much and some of the kitty litter will raise the pH too much.
Dr Novak, here in the Netherlands I can not find kittylitter or oildry which is not after a few days become a nasty clumb of clay in the bcbbags I use in my cannisterfilter. They all do and my aquarium water is a little misty. I saw a video with someone who used Seachem Flourite Red for his anoxic filtration and also other some Zeolith. Do you think Flourite Red is the best alternate for kitty litter? I don't mind that it is more expensive. Happy holidays.
Try "Linda USA kattengrit". I use it in my aquariums as a substrate and it hasn't clumped yet after a couple of months. But I don't use mechanical filtration though; it's only fish poop & plants, and lights to grow the plants, and a heater in the winter.

I never gave it a thought that the sound was bad, some viewers must have super hearing. On another note, i have a question about kitty litter. Some on RUclips are claiming the use of kitty litter as a substrate sucks out all the nutrients and minerals necessary for fish life unless the kitty litter is "charged", have you heard this and is there any truth to it. They use the word "charged" to mean saturated with the necessary minerals.
So when these people say that, do they have any scientific proof of what they're saying? In one breath they're saying it doesn't work now in another breath they're saying the kitty litter acts like "carbon." And if it sucks out all the minerals and all the necessary elements for the fish, then why did I own some of the oldest fish in the state of Illinois? Why is it that I had goldfish living for 15 and 17 years? Personally, these people are just making stuff up, and they have no proof to back up what they say. Now the kitty litter provides an environment, which sacrifices the fish over water quality. Really... that's the best they can do is make stuff up that actually has no proof behind it.
@@anoxicfiltrationplenums No proof was given they just state it like it is fact. I was very surprised because one claims to be a horticulturist.
@@ctsfiddler thank you for the heads up. I think I'm going to do a video just about what you said. This has happened before with people just making up stuff about the Anoxic filtration system or BCB bags and/or baskets without any substantial evidence to back them up.
My next tank will be a 10 gallon with a slow moving plenum. I'll be using 1" of kitty litter, 1/2" of Seachem Flourite and then another 1.5" of kitty litter. I'll be doing an unplanted fishless cycle with ammonia drops so I can measure the nitrate levels throughout the process. There will be no other filtration method.

The mic sounds fine. I hadn't noticed any super obvious audio quality issues in your recent videos, from a technical point of view. Most people's mic troubles come from using the wrong mic technique for the type of mic they have.
From what you've said, it sounds like you've just upgraded to a condenser microphone with an external interface or power supply depending on your setup.
You should definitely be able to make this work for you, so if you have any audio issues going forward, it should be fixable without buying any more gear
Yes, you're right. I updated to a very good mic with a power supply of 48 V so far it seems to be responding better than any of my other mics.

Quick question: where is the iron source in this aquarium's substrate? I thought you had to mix the cat litter with laterite powder or Flourite Red?
I just used SeaChem Iron and add it to the tank.
The audio has always been fine in the videos I've watched.

True. I also initially was told undergravel filters were bad for the plants and my plants used to die out on me probably due to other factors but I thought they were right & then when my air pumps kept burning out the local fish store convinced me to shift to an internal powerhead canister filter which did the mechanical filtration very well but biologically was useless and now apparently none of the local fish stores here sell the undergravel filters any longer. They only sell power head filters.
