  • Low Ambient Control Functionality:
    The Low Ambient Control (LAC) maintains an acceptable head pressure during the compressor operating cycle so that mechanical cooling can be maintained with minimal concern of evaporator frost buildup (icing) or refrigerant liquid flood back to the compressor shortening compressor life. The LAC operates when the outside ambient temperature is below 50F to 65F (actual outdoor temperature depends on equipment model). With the use of a LAC, mechanical cooling can be maintained down to a 0F outdoor temperature by cycling or modulating the condenser fan motor to maintain acceptable head pressure. Typically, an LAC would be installed on any air conditioner or heat pump, which has a conditioned space with a high internal heat gain and requires mechanical cooling regardless of the outdoor temperature. Example: Large office buildings, Telecommunication Shelters, Control or Power Distribution Enclosures, Computer Rooms, Retail Stores, Restaurants, Schools or similar Commercial installations.
    The Low ambient controls (LAC) used by Bard are one of two types;
     On/off condenser fan control. The switch turns the outdoor condenser fan on and off to keep the refrigerant within a certain pressure range.
     Modulating condenser fan control. The switch adjusts the power to the condenser motor slowing the outdoor fan down and speeding it up to maintain a certain high side refrigerant pressure.
