I liked your video. I'm recovering from a divorce however I'm poised to work a model like this to grow I'm a 100 percent service connected veteran and need to get this right.please provide more about acquiring properties too. Thanks, and great presentation you do well.
Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you liked the video. Look for areas with demand for group homes. Check zoning regulations to ensure properties can be used for your intended purpose. Explore various financing options, including traditional mortgages, VA loans (since you’re a veteran), or government grants specifically for veterans or group home operators. Also, Consider starting with a smaller property to gain experience and build a reputation before expanding to larger homes. This approach can help you learn the ropes of operating a group home effectively. If you have more specific questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
Thank you for the information. I want to open a group for felons after once they leave the halfway house. Help them get a second chance in life and offer them skill training in multiple fields.
Absolutely! That's a wonderful initiative! Creating a group to support individuals who are transitioning out of halfway houses and offering them skill training is incredibly impactful. It's an opportunity to provide practical support and guidance for those seeking a second chance in life. I commend your dedication to helping others rebuild and thrive after challenging times. Your efforts will undoubtedly make a significant difference in these individuals' lives, empowering them to pursue new opportunities and build fulfilling futures. If there's any way I can assist or offer further guidance, please let me know-I'd be more than happy to help support your initiative in any way I can. Best,
I literally have everything figured out beside if I should do a llc or c corporation. I was going to do a nonprofit but since I’m doing it with my sisters I want us all to benefit from it. But thank you for this video!!!!!
Of course, I'm glad you found the video helpful! When deciding between an LLC or C corporation for your group home, it really depends on your specific goals and needs. A C corporation is a separate legal entity that can issue stock and has certain tax advantages, but also comes with more regulations and formalities. An LLC, on the other hand, is a more flexible and simpler structure that allows for pass-through taxation, meaning the profits and losses of the business are passed through to the owners and taxed at their individual tax rates. In terms of running a nonprofit versus a for-profit business, there are different advantages and disadvantages to consider as well. Nonprofits are tax-exempt and can receive grants and donations, but are subject to more regulations and limitations on earning profits. For-profit businesses, on the other hand, have more freedom in earning profits and making decisions, but are subject to taxes and may not be eligible for certain grants and donations. I would recommend speaking with a business attorney or accountant to fully understand the differences and which structure would be best for your specific situation. Best of luck with your group home! Best, Adella
I’m currently looking for a Home to start a Mental health group home. My mother has 2 group homes for disabilities. I have my funds ready to start but she is being opinionated and giving negative reasons why I shouldn’t start. I’m now currently starting without her.
I think it's important to hear her out on any possible challenges or difficulties, just so that you should be aware and then decide on your own. My best friend owns a mental health group home, and it's not always the easiest dealing with the residents. You also have to be very dedicated to the business and well-being of the people who are living there. Lots of people have very successful group homes, her group home generates $45k a month. Just make sure that the resident's quality of care is put number one. Everything else will fall in place. If you didn't already buy the $5 group home plan, here's the link: payhip.com/b/bLYE That is super helpful when organizing and starting a group home. I believe you can do it. Let me know if you have any more questions! Best of luck on your new group home! Adella

Make sure to choose a location that is both accessible and appealing to affluent clients. Consider areas with privacy, beautiful surroundings, and proximity to luxury services!
That’s great 😁, I with my husband think about open group home, We hope have someone like you know all about how start group home, May you help me ? Thank you 😊
Hi, a great place to start is to download the business plan so you can get the basics of what a residential facility takes to setup / manage. Then you'll need to call or contact your STATE's department of health to discuss the specific requirements for licensing. Every state operates differently.
Hey Sakunta, Thanks for the question. Yes, hiring an attorney can be expensive, but the legal complexities of starting a group home make it advisable to get professional help. While you can draft contracts yourself using templates or software, you risk overlooking important regulations or liabilities. This could end up being more costly in the long run if you face legal issues. However, some costs can be mitigated by using an attorney for the most complex issues while handling simpler tasks yourself. Always remember, legal advice is critical for a regulated industry like group homes. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Thanks, Adella
I know this differs between the focus group for crratibg group homes and time, but what is an average time frame for starting a group home? 1 year? 2 years?
Great Question! The average time frame for starting a group home can vary, but typically it takes between 1 to 2 years. Here’s a breakdown: Research and Planning: 2-4 months to research regulations, develop a business plan, and secure funding. Licensing and Permits: 3-6 months to obtain necessary licenses and permits. Finding a Location: 1-3 months to find and secure an appropriate facility. Renovations and Setup: 2-6 months for any needed renovations and to set up the facility. Staff Hiring and Training: 1-3 months to hire and train staff. Marketing and Admissions: 2-4 months to market your group home and admit residents. So, on average, it could take anywhere from 1 to 2 years to fully start and operate a group home. Most it's 9 to 12 mo. Hope that helps!
Hey Alpha, Thanks for your question. Zoning Laws: Check if the area is zoned for group homes. Ensure it's accessible to public transport, healthcare facilities, and other essential services. Review crime rates and overall safety of the neighborhood. Adequate space for residents, including common areas and private rooms. Assess the condition of the property-any repairs or renovations needed? Consider all costs, including lease/purchase price, utilities, and maintenance. It's vital to carefully evaluate these factors to find a suitable location. Thanks for asking! Adella

They have a number of autistic behavioral disabilities and the house is designed for them. I defiently want to open my own one day. Thanks for the insight I needed this information.
That sounds like a rewarding experience, and it's great to hear that you're inspired to open your own group home one day! With your background, you already have valuable insights into what makes a successful and supportive environment for residents. If you have any more questions or need further information as you pursue your goal, feel free to reach out. Good luck with your journey!

If you own a group home and you are ready to sell, you can try a business broker. Just google ' business broker Florida' and a ton of top rated websites will come up that allow you buy or sell a Florida based business. They will find you a buyer and you can negotiate. Usually they take a small fee, but it's an easy way to cash out and sell your group home quickly. I hope that helps!
Hey MD, Thanks for the question. The target markets for a group home can vary based on the type of care provided like mentioned in the video. Here are some examples elderly seniors, developmentally disabled, Mental Health, At-Risk Youth, Rehabilitation Individuals recovering from addiction or other health issues.Your target market will influence everything from location to staffing to services offered. Hope this answers your question! Thanks,
Hey Sanjay, For managing the finances, I would recommend using an accounting software for tracking expenses and revenues. You can use Square. Here's a link to signup www.pasosdeals.com/square . You can use it also to generate invoices for services and medications. You should ideally create an annual budget for the home and review it monthly, so you're not overspending. Make sure you clearly outline your fees in resident contracts and keep records of payments. Use a mix of manual oversight and automated systems to manage these financial aspects efficiently. Always keep clear and accurate records. Let me know if you have any more questions. Best, Adella
I just purchased your business plan. Thank you. Where in GA does one obtain information on policies and procedures and where does one register for their license?
Correct! Here’s a rough breakdown of how you might allocate a $15,000 budget for starting a group home: Leasing/Rent: $3,000 - $5,000 (for initial lease payment and security deposit) Furniture and Equipment: $2,000 - $4,000 (basic beds, seating, kitchen appliances, etc.) Renovations and Modifications: $1,000 - $2,000 (ramps, safety rails, minor repairs) Licensing and Permits: $500 - $1,000 (fees vary by location) Initial Supplies: $1,000 - $2,000 (food, medical supplies, cleaning products) Insurance: $1,000 - $1,500 (liability and property insurance) Staffing: $2,000 - $3,500 (initial salaries, training costs) It's best to prioritize essential expenses and look for ways to save, like buying used furniture or negotiating lease terms, to stay within your budget. I hope this helps!
Thanks for the question, Managing medications in a group home involves key steps: Make sure staff are trained in medication management. I would hire a CNA or a Nurse if you have the money to do so to manage this. Keep an up-to-date Medication Administration Record (MAR) for each resident. Have it digital and printed copies on file. Before administering, check to make sure it's the right resident, right medication, right dose, right time, and right route. Always record when a medication is administered in your record keeping system. Securely store medications, and check expiration dates regularly. Watch for side effects and communicate any changes with healthcare providers and family. Also, keep any and all medications in a safe place where no one can tamper with it. Best, Adella
Thanks for the information. I need more help. My first question is: 1) Do I have to register my business first? 2) Where do I register my group home business? I leave in Los Angeles. 3) Can I start with rental home? 4) How many clients can one start with? I'm interested in elderly or children. Thanks
Hi Tatarose, please see the answers below. 1. Yes, if you are certain you want to start a group home, legally registering the business is the first step. If you are not sure, do all you research first and then come to a decision. 2. Once you register the business you can do it at pasosdeals.com/mycorp... choose an LLC or S-Corp and choose California as your state. Always check with your state for special business licensing requirements. Los Angeles may require a " transitional housing license / permit" that you need to obtain. You can get that here: www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/childrens-residential/how-to-become-licensed 3. The official group home business will be registered with the Department of Healthcare Services for California. The link to the applications and guidelines are here: www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/Pages/HealthHomesProgram.aspx . Read over the provider guidelines and also download the toolkit. If you have any questions, you can all them directly. 4. As long as you own the home and the building is in your name or the business's name, you can start. You cannot run that kind of business out of someone else's property. 5. You can do elderly or children. The amount of people you can start with depends on how many bedrooms you have in the house. Call into the Department of Healthcare Services for California to verify the requirements for having one or more beds or clients per room. I hope that helps, Adella
@@Askadella #4 hey I just want to make sure I understand what You stated. You said I can not host in a house I am renting? I will have or mortgage or rent to on the property?
Hey Khan, To generate feedback, use surveys or regular meetings to collect feedback from residents, families, and staff on what can be improved. Be sure to get Regular Reviews: Conduct periodic assessments of care plans and operational processes, adjusting as necessary. Be sure to train your staff: Keep staff up-to-date with the latest best practices and compliance standards through ongoing training. Make sure to keep Open Communication and maintain open channels for grievances or suggestions and act upon them promptly. It's important to perform internal and external audits to identify areas of improvement. By combining feedback and formal reviews, you can identify gaps and opportunities for enhancing both services and operations. I hope this helps. Best, Adella
Hi Markeya, that act is exercised on a federal level and has a lot to do with providing guidelines to the state's on how they pay the group homes and the licensing standards. Every single state is also regulated differently, so I cannot speak to that. The best thing to do in this case would be to reach out to your department of health for your state and ask them about the payments for group home business ( if the FFPSA reduces payouts for any reason) . I hope that helps. If you don't know who to contact, let me know your state and I'll post the department's contact information for you. Best, Adella 😍
Hi, great question. Activities and games for group home residents can vary depending on their age, physical abilities, and cognitive levels. Here are some general categories: Physical Exercise: Simple stretching, yoga, or light aerobics to keep residents physically active. Board Games: Classics like chess, checkers, or bingo for mental stimulation and social interaction. Crafts: Painting, knitting, or making simple crafts can be both creative and therapeutic. Music & Dance: Listening to music, musical games, or even simple dance activities to uplift spirits. Movie Nights: Screening films or TV shows that cater to the tastes and interests of the residents. Outdoor Activities: Garden walks, simple sports, or picnics for fresh air and sunlight. Educational Programs: Book reading, discussions, or guest speakers on various topics of interest. Social Interaction: Facilitated group discussions or themed parties to encourage socialization. Remember to consider the individual needs and preferences of residents when planning activities. I hope this helps. Thanks for leaving a comment. Best, Adella
Hey Shahbaz, Thanks for the question. For 24/7 coverage in a group home, you can use a rotating shift schedule. Most people schedule their CNA's, LPNs, or Nurses like this: 8-hour shifts: Three shifts per day (morning, afternoon, night). 12-hour shifts: Two shifts per day, often preferred for continuity of care. Ensure overlap during shift changes for smooth handover and make room for breaks and emergencies. Update the schedule regularly and communicate it clearly to all staff. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching! Adella
Absolutely, not many people have heard of Group Homes and did not know the government is paying for this resource. Happy to answer any questions you may have. Best of luck, Adella
Hi Iziegbe, Maryland's group home program is here: dhcd.maryland.gov/HousingDevelopment/Pages/ghp/default.aspx They do have a flyer and loan options, so you can all the Department of Housing and Community Development to get more information on licensing. Best, Adella
Hey King, Thanks for the question. For Online Presence, Create a website and use social media to showcase your services and share testimonials. For Community Outreach: Partner with local healthcare providers, social services, and community centers to get referrals. For Open House: Host informational sessions or virtual tours to give prospective residents and their families a firsthand look. For Local Ads: Use local newspapers, bulletin boards, or community radio to reach your target audience. For Word of Mouth: Encourage satisfied residents and their families to share their positive experiences. Effective group home promotion involves a mix of digital and community-based strategies to build trust and visibility. I hope that helps, Best, Adella
Hi Brianna, Ohio Department of Health is responsible for the licensing and inspection of residential care facilities (RCF) in Ohio. Just google " ohio department of health group homes" to get the contact information they will be able to give you more information about the requirements for your state and starting a group home facility.
Hey LsBeng! Thanks for the question. For Specialized Care: Offering specialized services like mental health support or geriatric care often allows for higher billing rates, increasing revenue. For State Funding: Depending on your jurisdiction and type of care provided, your group home may be eligible for state or federal funding, grants, or subsidies, which can substantially supplement earnings. Both specialized care and state funding can have a significant positive impact on a group home's financial viability. I hope this answers your question, Best, Adella
Yes! The zoning process can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on local regulations and whether public hearings are needed. First you need to check your local zoning laws to see if group homes are even allowed in the area. Then, submit a zoning application to your local zoning board or planning department. This usually includes details about the home, the type of group home, and the number of residents you plan to have. After the hearing, the zoning board will review your application and make a decision. If approved, you may receive a zoning permit or special use permit.

Hi Jesse, most state's have federally backed Group Home Program loans that you can use to finance newly constructed buildings; acquisition or acquisition and rehabilitation of existing residential buildings; or refinance mortgages on existing group homes. Housing may include group sheltered living arrangements, senior assisted living homes, emergency or transitional housing facilities and other group homes which serve special needs groups. You have to inquire with YOUR state's department of health or human services or sometimes it's called the department of housing and community development. 100% financing from the government is NOT always available and you will need that 10-15k to get started. Best, Adella
This type of business won't really have a NO money option. If you own a home, contact the department of health to find out the requirements to convert your home into a business facility. If not, you'll have to locate a home, buy it cash or take out a mortgage to get started. Best of luck on your new business! Adella
@@Askadella Damn....!! 😳😳💔🤐😭😭😭😭 We live in HUD Housing. Only receive Social Security for Disability. Don't Work. All the houses here in Florida require mostly like 10% down payment!! Like where we gonna get Thousands of Dollars!!?? I thought there were a few ways to get a house basically for FREE with Real Estate Investing!! Can't we do That?? ..... 💔😭😭😭😭
Yes, there might be. I'm not a specialist on getting homes for free. I think if you can figure that part out you can add this part and make it a success. I think most people are getting an FHA or Conventional loan, putting 3 to 10% down and making this work for them. You can't start getting paid until you get the home, and make sure it's approved by the state to house residents. I wish i could be of more help, Best, Adella

I really wish there was more access to this kind of thing. But I know that Patience is all I need!! ❤️❤️ Thanks Again for the information and for your time. It is Greatly Appreciated!! Yea, one tip would be to search for a home large enough to house enough residents. So, choose a place with space for the workers and the residents. Good Luck, Adella
Thank you for watching and commenting! I'm so glad you found this information helpful. Starting a group home can be a rewarding and challenging experience, and it's great that you and your husband are considering it. My best advice is to make sure to do your research and understand the legal requirements and regulations in your area. It's also important to have a solid business plan in place and to seek guidance from professionals in the field. Best of luck to you both in your journey to start a group home! You can and should also google "group homes" to see what comes up in your local area as far as other group home business owners. You'll usually see 5 to 10 listings in the google local listings. You can have a look at their websites and get an idea of the types of people they help, sometimes fees are also listed. Thanks for watching and commenting! Best wishes, Adella
Hey Akash, the reporting requirements for group homes can vary by jurisdiction and type of care provided, but commonly include: Incident Reports: Mandatory reporting of accidents, injuries, or unusual incidents involving residents or staff. Medication Logs: Detailed records of medication administration, including type, dosage, and timing. Financial Records: Documentation of financial transactions like billing, resident fees, and expenditures. Regulatory Filings: Periodic reports required by state or federal agencies on operational, staffing, and financial metrics. Quality Assessments: Regular reports on quality of care, including health outcomes and resident satisfaction. Emergency Procedures: Reporting and documentation requirements in case of emergencies, such as fire or medical crises. Employee Records: Reporting of staff hires, terminations, and training completion. Health Records: Maintenance and periodic reporting of residents' medical records, including any changes in condition. Failure to meet reporting requirements can result in penalties, loss of licensing, or legal action, so it's crucial to understand and adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations. I hope this helps, Best, Adella
Yes, absolutely Medicare spending grew 3.5% to $829.5 billion in 2020. Even physician and clinical services expenditures grew 5.4% to $809.5 billion in 2020. Everything involving healthcare and insurance is just going to continue to grow. The population is aging faster than ever and in need of more care. Best, Adella

I found you by searching for start a group home for veterans. I thank you for this information, because there's not much about it online.
No problem. Thanks for watching and leaving me a comment. :-)
I googled this and I'm looking forward to getting started, I live in NC and saw there are tons of them here.

Your efforts will undoubtedly make a significant difference in these individuals' lives, empowering them to pursue new opportunities and build fulfilling futures. You are very welcome Zainab! Best of luck to you! 😍
How’s it going?

Thanks for the group home business is a must have!
Absolutely!
If you didn't already buy the $5 group home plan, here's the link: payhip.com/b/bLYE
That is super helpful when organizing and starting a group home. I believe you can do it.
Let me know if you have any more questions!

I have a lot of questions. I want to start a group home business but I don’t know the way to start.
Your video's are very informative.
T😍hank You! I try to give as much information for FREE as possible to help you on your journey!
I heard you mention involving a professional attorney in the process. Wouldnt that get costly, is there a way of preparing contracts yourself?
Hey Sakunta,
Thanks for the question.
Thanks,
Adella

You are so welcome! Thanks for watching and leaving me a comment! 😍
I know this differs between the focus group for crratibg group homes and time, but what is an average time frame for starting a group home? 1 year? 2 years?
Great Question! The average time frame for starting a group home can vary, but typically it takes between 1 to 2 years. Here’s a breakdown:
Research and Planning: 2-4 months to research regulations, develop a business plan, and secure funding.

What are some important factors to consider when purchasing or leasing a location for a group home?
Hey Alpha,
Thanks for your question.

I have a group home for sale in Dade city fl. Not sure how to find a buyer. I don’t want to list it.
I hope that helps!
can I ask why are you trying to sell
I am interested in buying please provide a contact email
Why are you selling?
What are the target markets for a group home?
Hey MD,
Thanks for the question.
Thanks,
How are you supposed handle financial management, billing, budgeting, and resident fees?
Hey Sanjay,
For managing the finances, I would recommend using an accounting software for tracking expenses and revenues.
Best,
Adella
I just purchased your business plan. Thank you. Where in GA does one obtain information on policies and procedures and where does one register for their license?
Sure, I can send you this info for GA. Please Go to AdellaPasos.com and fill out the contact form. Thanks 🙏
@@AskadellaThank you for the information, would you be able to provide the info for Florida?
So you said the start up cost can range from about 10,000 to 15,000 does that include leasing expense , furniture maintenance, floor plan etc?
Correct!
Here’s a rough breakdown of how you might allocate a $15,000 budget for starting a group home:
Leasing/Rent: $3,000 - $5,000 (for initial lease payment and security deposit)
Furniture and Equipment: $2,000 - $4,000 (basic beds, seating, kitchen appliances, etc.)
Renovations and Modifications: $1,000 - $2,000 (ramps, safety rails, minor repairs)
Licensing and Permits: $500 - $1,000 (fees vary by location)
Initial Supplies: $1,000 - $2,000 (food, medical supplies, cleaning products)
Insurance: $1,000 - $1,500 (liability and property insurance)
Staffing: $2,000 - $3,500 (initial salaries, training costs)
It's best to prioritize essential expenses and look for ways to save, like buying used furniture or negotiating lease terms, to stay within your budget.
I hope this helps!
Thanks for explaining the process, easily!
My pleasure! Thanks for leaving me a comment! 😀
How to handle medication management and ensure residents receive their required medications?
Thanks for the question,
Managing medications in a group home involves key steps:
Make sure staff are trained in medication management.

You're very Welcome!
You can get that here: www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/childrens-residential/how-to-become-licensed
I hope that helps,
Adella

How do residents, their families, and staff to continuously improve services and operations?
Hey Khan,
To generate feedback, use surveys or regular meetings to collect feedback from residents, families, and staff on what can be improved.

How does the Family First Prevention Services Act affect profits? Is it true that they’ll only pay for 2 weeks if you have a group home for children?
Hi Markeya, that act is exercised on a federal level and has a lot to do with providing guidelines to the state's on how they pay the group homes and the licensing standards. Every single state is also regulated differently, so I cannot speak to that. The best thing to do in this case would be to reach out to your department of health for your state and ask them about the payments for group home business ( if the FFPSA reduces payouts for any reason) . I hope that helps. If you don't know who to contact, let me know your state and I'll post the department's contact information for you. Best, Adella 😍
What kind of activities and games do residents within the group home?
Hi, great question.
Activities and games for group home residents can vary depending on their age, physical abilities, and cognitive levels. Here are some general categories:
Physical Exercise: Simple stretching, yoga, or light aerobics to keep residents physically active.

How should the scheduling of shifts go for 24/7 coverage?
Hey Shahbaz,
Thanks for the question. For 24/7 coverage in a group home, you can use a rotating shift schedule. Most people schedule their CNA's, LPNs, or Nurses like this:
8-hour shifts: Three shifts per day (morning, afternoon, night).
12-hour shifts: Two shifts per day, often preferred for continuity of care.
Ensure overlap during shift changes for smooth handover and make room for breaks and emergencies. Update the schedule regularly and communicate it clearly to all staff.
Hope this helps,
Thanks for watching!

Very cool video!
Thank you very much! Really appreciate you commenting!
But you didn’t mention the average costs involved in this. The staff, the employees, all exspenses associated with it. What is the overhead
I want to start, but how can my group home business promote itself to attract new residents?
Hey King,
Thanks for the question.
I hope that helps,

I love your video it was very helpful, I live in Ohio how do I contact someone to start my business
Hi Brianna, Ohio Department of Health is responsible for the licensing and inspection of residential care facilities (RCF) in Ohio. Just google " ohio department of health group homes" to get the contact information they will be able to give you more information about the requirements for your state and starting a group home facility.
How do specialized care and state funding impact the earnings you mentioned?
I hope this answers your question,
Best,
Adella
Did you have to go through the zoning process of the home?

10-15k ? Don’t you have to buy the house which will require 20% down? Are you leasing the home off of someone?
Hi Jesse, most state's have federally backed Group Home Program loans that you can use to finance newly constructed buildings; acquisition or acquisition and rehabilitation of existing residential buildings; or refinance mortgages on existing group homes.
Housing may include group sheltered living arrangements, senior assisted living homes, emergency or transitional housing facilities and other group homes which serve special needs groups.
You have to inquire with YOUR state's department of health or human services or sometimes it's called the department of housing and community development. 100% financing from the government is NOT always available and you will need that 10-15k to get started.

Adella

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I have a question though. How do I Start with NO Money?! 😓😓
This type of business won't really have a NO money option. If you own a home, contact the department of health to find out the requirements to convert your home into a business facility.
If not, you'll have to locate a home, buy it cash or take out a mortgage to get started.
Best of luck on your new business!

We live in HUD Housing.

Thank you so much for sharing this information ❤ my husband and I are looking into starting a group home
What are the reporting requirements for the group homes?
Hey Akash, the reporting requirements for group homes can vary by jurisdiction and type of care provided, but commonly include:
Incident Reports: Mandatory reporting of accidents, injuries, or unusual incidents involving residents or staff.
I hope this helps,
Best,
Adella
So the Medicaid/Medicare group would be a good area to specialize in Im assuming from the video?
Yes, absolutely Medicare spending grew 3.5% to $829.5 billion in 2020. Even physician and clinical services expenditures grew 5.4% to $809.5 billion in 2020. Everything involving healthcare and insurance is just going to continue to grow. The population is aging faster than ever and in need of more care.
