  • Not my usual GMV upload. But I am a big fan of Star Trek so I decided to take a crack at making a video clip montage. This took me 6 months of re-watching and digitally capturing all of my old Star Trek discs to get this footage. With the exception of 3 clips, all of this footage was captured by be, and not taken from the internet. It was a long but fun project.
    Hope you all enjoy.
    Also check out my other Star Trek montage.
    Sorry some of the clips used in this video are not high quality. Some of the shows, Voyager and DS9, were only released in standard definition.
    If you enjoyed this, please like and subscribe :)

    I know I'll probably get some flak for this but damn I miss star trek enterprise, sure it had its faults, need more flushing out for the characters, but I would have rather seen more seasons leading up to the founding of the Federation, and the Earth-Romulan war than what we have now.....

    A threat so unimaginable, it'll take four generations of Starfleet across three timelines to challenge it. The Dominion's in league with the Borg and the Romulans and are unleashing armageddon across the cosmos. When both Kirks decide to call in Captains Lorca, Picard, Archer, Sisko and Janeway, it's all hands on deck because Starfleet's about to rip the Dominion a new one!! STAR TREK: DOMINION. Epic!!!

      Took me a while to really appreciate phaser beams after seeing Discovery and being so disappointed there were none. Just pew pew pew baby lasers. Even the turbo lasers of star wars are bigger than that. One of my friends likes using beams weaponry in all his sci fi games/films. I always used cannons or lasers. But seeing Star Trek using nothing but pew pew pew feels odd.

      @@ChrissonatorOFL It wasn't so much the weaponry that was the problem: it was the sound effects; _Star Wars_ turbo lasers' S/Es made them sound powerful.
      Of course, from a pure science standpoint, no sound can can through the vacuum of space; it would only aboard a starship that the sound of outgoing weapons fire or incoming impacts would be heard. . .

      What have you done! You could start an internet war with that question.
      In all seriousness you can debate either side. Both universes are so inconsistant you can argue one side over another. From a certain point of view. I personally favour star trek but that may be because im more knowlagable aboutit whereas i only knowthe star wars i have heard from others.
      But im my opinion Enterprise D and stronger > star destroyer. Something like voyager would likely be weaker (without transphasic torpedoes. Those things are op)

    • @Acrosurge
      @Acrosurge 2 года назад

      @@curseofgladstone4981 I know and love both franchises and love studying the lore/tech of Star Wars and Star Trek. Generally, you need to name the circumstances of the battle to definitively discern the victor. For instance: In which galaxy will the conflict take place? What era of the Federation (22nd, 23rd, 24th, 29th or 31st century Starfleet?)? Is the Empire invading the Federation or vice versa?
      In general, Starfleet ships of the 23rd and 24th centuries have huge technological advantages (firepower, defense, range, targeting, sensors, sublight speed, maneuverability, and logistics) over their Star Wars counterparts in almost every category except long-range interstellar travel. 26th and 29th century Starfleet ships can fold space, explore other galaxies, and casually time travel, so if that's the era your talking about, then the Empire loses that final advantage.
      But yeah, this kind of thing can cause fan-wars... which are fun for those of us that don't tie a franchises worth to superiority in combat. Doctor Who's Timelords could wipe out both the Federation and the Galactic Empire, for example.

    All these clips show how drama trumps reality. A space battle would never be fought at such close ranges. An analogy is naval combat in the era of steel hulls and steam power. All such combat takes place at the most extreme range possible. There is a great disadvantage to closing to close range, all return fire is more concentrated and accurate. With centuries of further development, material weapons such as missiles would probably be effective across immense distances. Energy weapons would require closer distances, due to energy dissipation effects due to the laws of thermodynamics. It is amusing to watch these CGI ships take banking angles in turns in airless space. Not to mention sound effects traveling between ships during battle.

    • @EvilSpockEmpire
      @EvilSpockEmpire  6 лет назад +3

      James Henry i agree. That’s why I like the space battles in The Expanse. They are the most realistic I have seen on a tv show.

    • @darwinxavier3516
      @darwinxavier3516 6 лет назад

      Yep. There's a time for realism, and a time for fantasy. No shame in indulging in fantasy as long as you know what it is. I much prefer the colorful and unconventional ships over the hyper realism of Halo's UNSC and The Expanse.

    • @Siathuan
      @Siathuan 6 лет назад

      You're right about drama vs realism, because it's a visual medium and it's far harder to make a realistic space battle dramatic. Not impossible though.
      On what a realistic space battle would look like, however, you're wrong. Those missiles would have to not only enter but pass through energy range undetected in order not to be shot down, which - barring actual "space magic" stealth - is utterly impossible. So we're back to trading broadsides of DEWs, because there's no way to actually outmaneuver a beam of light. Unlike kinetics, which is why those would be reserved for knife-fighting ranges of a few kilometres at most.
      So, battles become about trying to trap enemy ships in disadvantageous positions, which - depending on FTL method - may or may not be possible. If it is, space battles become skirmishes with fleets trying to draw each other out, a giant game of cat and mouse. If it isn't, they become medieval siege warfare writ large, because the only way to force an enemy to battle on your terms is to attack something they can't withdraw from; i.e. their worlds.

    • @curseofgladstone4981
      @curseofgladstone4981 4 года назад

      @@Siathuan
      Also if ships are too far apart ti's easy for one to simply warp away if they are starting to lose given the immense time between shots fired and relieved. Also manoeuvring, shooting Down torpedoes etc.
      Not to mention if you design your ship to be a point blank skermisher and your enemy does not you have an enormous advantage at close range which you can easy get to with Ftl tech.
      Obviously it's different in reality with Ftl being considered a whimsical dream if not outright impossible.

    • @Siathuan
      @Siathuan 4 года назад

      @@curseofgladstone4981 Also depends greatly on how FTL works in a given setting. Not every setting which has BSG tactical jump drives or ST warp; 40k, for instance, requires ships to arrive and depart days if not weeks of real-space travel away from planets unless they want to risk death or infinitely worse...

    Its very good but I have to say something, first a few secnes aren't original, so the don't fit to the animation style of the rest. Then did you have downloaded the scenes from the Internet? They are very blurred. And I know they are old. But when I am watching the series from DVDs it looks better. This points aren't so bad. Really bad is that you mixed every fight. It is good voted to the music but the fights aren't in any logic follow. Thats a point where I would watched.
    I found it really good that you gave at the beginning a little in each battle, thats very nice. It would be cooler if you tryed to follow the timeline so first Captain Kirk... and so on.
    But all in all its good but if you will make a new Video try to manage this points.

      Thanks for your feedback. All of the scenes in this video were captured by me from my personally owned Star Trek movies, blu-ray discs, and standard definition discs. It took me over 6 months to re-watch all of the Star Trek shows to find and capture this footage. Voyager and DS9 were never remastered into HD. That is why they appear blurry compared to the rest of the footage, but they are original. I posted this in the description.
      The only scenes that I did take from the internet are at 0:16-0:18, 0:26, 1:11.
      The Star Trek Discovery comic-con ship realse trailer, and a DS9 HD render.
      The HD DS9 scene was re-rendered by a youtube channel called 'the IRML' ruclips.net/video/IJs0-hhOZFQ/видео.html
      At first I started editing the footage in chronological order, but then I decided against it. This is because according to my RUclips analytics, the Average Viewer Duration on my videos is 2 minutes. If I ordered them chronologically, I would have a lot of the best scenes (TNG movies, and DS9) at the end of the video. To hold view attention longer I wanted to space out that footage around as evenly as possible. But yes, it would made more sense to do it in chronological order. :)

      Okey, that makes sense why you have done it :D. But from which serie is for example scene at 3.52? I didn't know from which serie that could be? The new Star Trek?
      I want just say one point. At the end of the Video.. had I take the Borg scenes. For example when they destroid a ship. As a ending from the Video and the Saga. That would be a nice thing.
      And I have a personal question, Do you still know in which traces the scenes are? Because I want to watch the Battels one time again. And then I haven't to watch the hole serieses

      Watergaming22 the scenes you refer to at 3:52 are from Star Trek Enterprise season 3 (last episode I believe could be wrong on that) but it's definitely the end of season 3, the Enterprise finally tracks Down the xindi superweapon and they're trying to destroy it before it makes it to Earth.

    The music is too fast paced for most of these battle sequences.
    It's like slow dancing to Metalica.
    I think Freedom Fighters... Rada... Starvation... or Protectors of the Earth, would have been a better fit.

      Meh, too dark and lifeless for me. Klingon rape scenes and such...weird intertwined plots where everything has to do with everyone.
      There are a couple of cool scenes of the ships, but the rest is just a 21st century drama story whete everyone has their personal issues that have to be worked out.
