The Mirror Universe episodes in the various Star Trek series are just Federation propaganda against the Terran Empire. Actually, the Terran Empire is much more efficient and benevolent than what is shown in those episodes. Change my mind...

Too bad Star Fleet isnt a real military but an exploration and defense force. Which shows in their uniforms and the by galactic human standards across sci-fi relatively lightly armed ships. They could do better on this front if they wanted. I have no doubt. Basically Star Fleet is still kicking xenos asses without trying imagine if they actually tried to build up military power.
