Does it matter who a rapper was influenced BY as long as they are influential? (For example, John kept saying that Thug wouldnt be who is if it wasnt for Wayne... or Trav wouldnt be here if it wasnt for Ye, but Does that even matter?)
I completly disagree with you on this one Aaron. Even some of Thug's "children" like trippie, keed, etc have said Lil Wayne was an inspiration for them. Its not like Lil Wayne was some small rapper and only inspired Thug and then Thug went on to inspire 100s of rappers. When talking about who was the most influential rapper Wayne inspired soooo many rappers who went on to inspire many more themselves. The autotune, the punchlines, the remixes, the free mixtapes, the use of drugs in songs, the face tats, the dyed dreads, etc. He created the word "bling" for christ's sake 😂 Half these rappers naming themselves "Lil" something should be enough lol
@@Dee-- bro stop. He’s not saying that the point is rappers who have stated thugs been a big part of the reason why they make music today or even inspired them to make it in the first place like yeat, juice and others listen to thug and have then taken HIS sound to liking and gone from there, not Wayne’s. Regardless who inspired who it’s still that one specific sound of thug or other rappers like future or Travis that have started off from these older guys like Wayne to then be pushed forward with tweaks and slight changes which creates the new sounds and influence. I get you what Aaron’s saying completely he’s not saying they didn’t inspire them he’s saying the impact that can then have on other people who solely listen to thug or carti yet have no idea who there’s influences are as he said with carti and the punk/rock influence. Even uzi with Marilyn Manson
bro said thug it from wayne but rocky and odd future and sosa got it from lil B, lil B got it from MF doom, etc. i think it don't matter if you take that influence and do your own thing with it. thugger took wayne's influence but was completely unique with it and it is THAT sound that went on to influence countless other artists that wouldn't have got it from wayne directly
And to the point of paying homage I agree with you in the fact that you can only acknowledge like 1 generation before because if we go down this path of who influenced who it all goes back to the founder of hip hop back in the dang 70s. Almost like saying Kyrie is influenced by Dr J because he looked up to Kobe, and Kobe looked up to MJ, and MJ looked up to Dr J😭 like cmon now at some point it’s just ridiculous
The convo could go on forever but the question was of the last 20 years. So we gotta discuss all those artists in order to get to what influences todays artists
Here me out, I think with the homage thing is that, Wayne was inspired by Jay Z, but Jay Z was low key retired at the time Wayne was "really" blowing up, Kim wasnt poppin really when Nicki came up, 50 doesnt put out music like that anymore when Pop came along; but Kanye was still dropping fire while Drake has been around, which in essence makes Drake seem not as influential.. there was no real "passing of the torch" another example, Chief was influenced by Waka and Sosa really hit his stride once Waka really wasnt in the rap scene like that anymore, thus "passing the torch" and Sosa being influential
Lol Aaron has a point about the Kobe lebron and thug Wayne example. Because even tho Wayne inspired him Thug some people connect with thug more. So they get some of the Wayne sauce through thug
Trap music is prob the most popular genre of rap right now and I'm not saying Gucci mane was the first trap artist but without Gucci mane we wouldn't have chief keef, young thug, young thug, fredo santana, peewee longway,oj da juice man, migos, young scooter, waka flocka And future he put them on his mixtapes he made some albums with them and he helped the trap scene more famous so ima say Gucci mane 💁
Spaceghostpurrp influenced everyone in raider clan that’s like 30+ ppl plus everyone in asab mob plus basically any rapper in Florida at that time not named Rick Ross or kodak
bro, i'm with Aaron on the inpiration thing. Nick minaj made a music inspired by BIG "just playing". I'm a BIG fan, i don't have nothing against Nick. BUT yo, theres not even a remote rhyme scheme or technique used by BIG that Nick ever even took the time to learn. Soo, for real, don't matter. Just like NLE 2pac tribute. He don't have nothing on his bars that Pac would ever give props.
Gucci Mane the most important and influential. The absolute Jesus’s of today hip hop. And asap mob sure but they stole spaceghostpurrps swag and got bigger🤷♀️
Please stop playing with drizzy man😭 I’m so tired of this dawg. Brody influenced singing and rapping which is the only way you can be top 5 rapper nowadays. I fwy tho Aaron 😂 I’m just so tired of the goat not getting his respect
And yes being honest and vulnerable is straight connection and derivative from 808’s but bro took it too an insanely new level. Where people like a boogie, polo g, and even young boy have the confidence to pour their heart out while singing and still be gangster. I just don’t get it .
@@itsAaronSpeaking nope, actually I never suggested he was over anyone. I feel that Ye is the most influential in this current century for hip hop. But to say Drake doesn’t have a spot in the top 15 at least is crazy, especially if we bringing up names like Rocky. Just the sheer globalization of the genre is in part due to him. If that isn’t influence then I must need to check a dictionary out.
Facts I couldn’t believe drake wasn’t mentioned more. Some of these names mentioned in the video are far below drake in terms of goat status and influence on the culture. Drake has been carrying for over a decade and had people bumpin his shit all 4 seasons

Lil Wayne is the most influential in the 2000s rap game in my opinion
Lil Wayne, 50, Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy, Chief Keef and Migos are the most influental in the past 20 years in my opinion.
Except gucci im sorry but nobody been talking about gucci since 2018
@@𧃒 Yk he influenced every artist from Atlanta right? Soulja boy migos young thug carti he even influenced chief keef
Soulja boy n Migos haven't influence nothing

lil wayne is dragon ball z of the rap game, the blueprint of his genre

Lil wayne is the originator even rappers stole " Lil "
Right and same thing for T Pain with the audio tune
@@itsladytruth oh yeah i think T pain is more influential than rocky tho
There were like 3 “Lil” rappers before him like Lil Kim and Lil Cease
@@𧃒 But Wayne is the most successful with the Lil moniker
Xxxtentacion and Tupac
Lil B and Sosa made this generation no bap no kizzy
lil Wayne and drake for sure and Kanye but the most most is Dr Dre
lil B, sosa, gucci mane, thugger, SGP
Chief keef no doubt

Waka is not influential. No rapper cited or even mention him as inspiration.
The question was of the last 20 years so we can’t discuss who is most influential today and only go as far back as 2010 lol
I feel like t pain is underrated he really popularized the auto tune we have now
I vote 50 cent, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Future, Young Thug, Kid Cudi, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, T.I, Lil B, Chief Keef, Pop Smoke, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Soulja Boy, Drake, A$AP Rocky, Waka Flocka Flame
lol

I get what john saying but I gotta side with Aaron here... the list could go on forever of who inspired who
Kanye
everything bruh said abt ASAP mob they literally stole from SGP
Thank you, too many people think it was just asap, matter fact way too many people just forget the influence of sgp
X was very influential as well. Don't think I mentioned him in the moment, but for sure. He's up there.
I feel like his influence is underrated comparing to his contemporaries Uzi n carti
What about SGP n raiderklan?
ehhh
Young Thug is
THUGGER!!!

nicki minaj is definitely top 5 influential let’s be real
