1250, the Egyptian town of Mansurah: a clash between a French force led by King Louis IX of France and an Ayyubid host under Fakhr-ad-Din, and the Mamluk Baibars. Saint Louis has sworn to recapture Jerusalem. Baibars and his fellow Mamluks are equally determined to stop him. There, on the ancient Nile River, a key engagement will play out.
Special thanks to: Alexander Knight
It really is mind blowing that Western kings personally led crusades. It really goes to show that crusades were more than just some war.
Yea, the people who say they all just wanted land, are absolutely dumb
AV 57 I believe that some joined for land and some for piety but anyways it is cool to know that what human devotion can lead too
@@KristinkaAranova ok let me tell you right now
It was about land and wealth
@@BALLARDTWIN no it wasn't. Many nobles went bankrupt funding their journey on a Crusade.
Lol he was captured in egypt
Great warrior 💪👑 🔥Sultan Rakunuddin Baibars miss u 😭💝from Bangladesh.
Baibars the Cuman😍😍😍😍😍
@Dystopian Duke yup being held in chains, guarded by a eunuch named Sobih and paying 1/3 of france’s income as a ransom for release.

quality work, highly enjoyable
@Baghatur Tarkhan
He did.
The video looks really good!
Great improvement!
Great work! Definitely looking forward to future episodes. Congrats!
LOVE the new format, similar to other channels but much more saturated in the minutia of crusade knowledge.
This was really the beginning of the end for the salibi
Yep
I am from Mansoura in Egypt and my grandfather told me that he was killed in the house of Ibn Luqman
Who was?
لا سجناه وطلبنا فدية مقابل تحريره
He was not killed he was freed after France paid a ransom and the surrender of the city of Damietta. He was imprisoned in House of Ibn Luqman which still exist in modern day AL Mansurah.
Didn't Louis die (of plague I think) during another crusade against Tunis?
Yep, of dysentery 😂😂😂
Amazing work on the new format! Squares and rectangles shaking against each other always seem to make things way more enjoyable and intuitive and I appreciate it a ton.
I dig the new vid format, very cool
I love this , this is really great new territory!
Really love the art style!
Here you should advertise Rise of Kingdom in your channel. Baibar is the commander I am using now lol
Loved the video and the added animations. Well done!
That it could be Crusaders story on anime
Interestingly, the large bulk of the vanguard force with Robert that cross the river to mansurah first was the knight templar. There is a primary source describing how Robert argued they should push forward but the templar master and the hospitallers both adamantly argued they should not as it would cut them off. Robert of artois vehemently called them all cowards and shouted that they lacked courage. The templar master, not being able to afford to insult to his and the Templars courage, was forced to charge a suicidal charge.
Poor Louis, his Crusade didn't have much outside reinforcement from the other Christian nations and the Pope, he went crusading with almost only his knights basically.
@@xerox6467 in the medieval era it was impossible to defeat muslims & their sultanats only mongols were able to hold victory against muslims for few years but few years later they even got taken care of all their soldiers in muslims Lands were killed and the remaining mongol people had to convert to Islam almost all mongols were converted to Islam.
@@xerox6467 15k is a very low number to invade egypt bro dont act dumb
@@xerox6467 War isn't necessarily determined by the number of forces. A lot of factors come into play like logistics, positions, and etc. 15k is a low number especially for an ATTACKING army in an unfamiliar land with well positioned and prepared defenders.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ok, that was pretty cool!! Loved the speech bubbles 😂
@Alexander Knight Naw, they were fun!
So u won’t mention that king Louis him self was captured in this battle
He wasn't captured in this battle, he was captured in the battle after this. This battle is specifically about the Battle of al-Mansourah. Louis was captured after the Battle of Fariskur. Check your facts before you comment.

This was amazing dude!
It annoys me that Robert had basically one the day. If he had just waited for the rest of the men to join him instead of being so brazen!
UGHHH! makes me angry
It ran in the family I guess, his son and great-grandson Robert II and Robert III seem to have been reckless men as well.
Well the Artois Capetians had an awful luck in battle Robert I, Robert II, Philip of Artois and Robert III, four consecutive generations of the family either died in battle or died due wounds they got in battle.
@V R The video showed that they had a reasonable debate and not everyone was mindlessly devoted to the same plan of action, but someone had to make a decision which the king did.
There are first hand accounts of this crusade, well worth reading before making a judgement on their faith, and mindset. Some just wanted to go home.
@V R Its more of a lesson of chasing after personal glory instead of cooperating with the army as a whole. His plan was bold, but it left the army in a precarious position
very frustrating. i suppose robert's fate was God's way of punishing him for his pride
Conqueror Baibars
I loved the visuals in this video. Real Crusades History just keeps getting better. If only Louis did as well.
Some still butthurt about a lost crusade apparently. LMAO
Tough break dude.

Louis was captured in Egypt and killed in Tunisia later he was a loser 👎

Are there any records of the way that the Egyptians treated king Louis during his time in custody?
Thanks for the videos, have been enjoying them a lot recently
Alexander Knight Knew it meself, could be a question for the livestream maybe, thanks
@Me The mujahiddin didn't see him as a threat that's why they let him live
Usually they would treat Kings and other noble people with a lot of respect because of their value as a trading "card"
Lmfao no they treated him like a street urchin, they even created a mocking song that they sang over and over again on the day they released him.
@@balgruffnah not him he is a joke we’re I live

What is difference between catholicism and Roman catholicism?
@@DConan-jj6dm Nothing, you see after the reformation in england, they called themselves "English Catholics" as the difference was more about the politics and regalistic policies of Henri VI.

We'd love to see more
Remember my words, Jerusalem will soon be liberated by the armies of Egypt
Sisi is a Munafiq, he and current Egypt would be humiliated for their alliance with the Zionists
A song has been made about King Louis and his death - Le Roi Louis; it is a beautiful song. Keep in mind that is it 12th century language thereofre a bit more close to vulgar latin than modern french.
You can find it by searching for "Le Roi Louis".
Muslims set him free after his wife paid a ransom for what his forces had did in Damieta
Sick format, really enjoyed this!
Attila total war mod is better than medieval 2 . Good choice.
Mansora literally means victress
wow fantastic
They should have taken Alexandria and held the coast and built that up. Cairo really was a city too far.
V R maybe indeed. But the crusaders would probably have gotten reinforcement from europe. But it`s all just speculations.🤔
Alexandria would've fallen quickly, just like Damietta. Crusader fleets were far superior, and Alexandria could've been held long term with support from Cyprus.
@Alexander Knight Which occasions? Because to me the it was the Mamluks who destroyed and were superior to the knights
Taking Alexandria would be a great idea if they didnt have Jerusalem on the horizon, it would take a lot of time to damage the Egyptians
@@balgruff you mean Arab/Egyptians cause the Arabs ruled Egypt since the 600’s.
Great improvement, this channel was already amazing, with this new format is 10x better
There are little pieces of intricate detail in some of the animations that further reveal your passion of such things among all the hard work you two put in.
Baibarrrrr was the man
Improved format. Very colorful.

Louis wasnt thinking right!
I like the amusing captions. Added a bit of levity but didn't detract from J. Stephen's narration. The moving battle maps are a definite plus. Very nice work gentlemen!
For the crusades, you’ve got all of ‘em covered
I proud of egyption 😅😅😅 they arrested him
Why you did not mention that king louis was captured in this battle?
Because he wasn't captured in this battle. He was captured after the next battle.
@@RealCrusadesHistory thank you for your answer, i heard in a french documentary that he was captured in Mansura.
A few months after Al-Mansurah, at the battle of Fariskur, Mamluks captured the king.

This is beyond perfect thank you for all your hard work!!!!
Very well done 👌 this new format is very good.
Stephen, great improvement!
Louie should have attacked ascalon first then to damietta, from there they march along the coast just like richard in the third crusade but damietta to jaffa then to Jerusalem instead of cairo. Once word that reaches in europe that Jerusalem has been captured again by Christians the Pope might send reinforcements
Only problem is Louis was not Richard and Baibars was not Saladin.
Love the new video format
Very stimulating!
My ancestor Lord Thomas Gibson was in the battle of Fariskur he was the Gold Keeper and paid the ransom for the release of King Louis and the other crusaders that were held captive with him. My ancestor was born in Buchanan Stirlingshire Scotland. He died in Mid Calder Midlothian Scotland.

Woah Bro... This was friggin great, dude! Your excellent research, fluid arrangements, and delivery as a narrator has always been enough to keep your content on par with the best and fanciest of history channels; but this most recent collab with Alexander Knight has just put your channel on steroids! I was very impressed, and it shows your most recent collaborator has a passion for creativity to go along with his visual capabilities.
This is very interesting, this type of video. You can get wider audiance, not just history lovers.
The next step for a great channel! I look forward to more videos that show us the viewer what the layout of the battle looked like. Really helps to add to the history.
Wow I heartily enjoyed this new format and am incredibly impressed. I love all the details of the number and types of troops, the battle formations, maps, and video game footage. I've found St. Louis and the VII Crusade to be incredibly interesting, as well as the 13th century in general. I hope to see more like this about this campaign and others.
i find it of note that Jerusalem was destroyed in 1244 and little of this is said or noted, unlike 70AD
it wasnt destroyed like the romans did stone by stone, but was sacked like looting homes and civilians then leaving the city it was more of a sack or a plunder rather than a destruction like the romans
