Improvement: As the thin aluminum does not hold its shape well, add a "handle" made of proto putty on the folded edge side. Not only will it make it easier on the hand when cutting, but the rigidity of the proto putty will help maintain the shape.
Ed Roberts just make sure to use the food grade Proto putty.

if you put the cookies in the freezer for 15-20 min before you bake them they will keep the shape better

I tried this project and actually had a great idea for a modification! I took a sheet of thick 1/2 inch cardboard and used a utility knife to cut my shape through only the top layer. then i pressed the aluminum strip into the cut which let it hold its shape much better.

THIS IS PERFECT!!!! I am a baker and I have wanted to make custom shaped cookies for a long time, before I've had to draw out the shape on paper, cut out the template, place it on the dough, and cut the shape out with a knife. It sucks to have to do that for a couple dozen cookies!

Here is a challenge for you (unrelated to this video btw)
Make a flammable liquid that doesnt burn something when set alite, then pour it over paper or a sticky note with something writen on it. Then, when the fire goes out, if the paper is undamaged (by fire) you have completed the challenge, if damaged by fire, then you fail.
YOU CAN NOT PUT ANYTHING ON THE PAPER/STICKY NOTE THAT ISNT THE LIQUID

sugar cookie pro tip: after cutting shapes, pop the tray of unbaked cookies into the freezer for about 10 minutes before baking. they won't spread as much and they'll keep shape a little better! cool video, will definitely try!

The ink on the outside of the can may melt into your griddle or into your food, you can remove it with acetone and wash the aluminum throughly though.

That takes way too much work if you want to make your own for the most part probably. Gotta balance everything thing out, then have some way to turn it on and off. Not possible on your own, better off buying your own kit for it. They're a thing.
Make salt dynamite by heating the salt in a furnace and then when it’s very hot pour it in water.

You can easily solve that by adding a little extra flour to the mix. Also placing the cookies in the fridge to firm up also helps
