I absolutely love this series! I remember when it was originally on and not being at all interested in it, despite liking both the main actors. Perhaps I needed a few more miles on the clock to fully appreciate it!
I'm always mystified why there were no American actors available in London (Equity issues?) or at least English actors who can manage an American accent decently.
Foreign, especially US, actors might not be readily on tap in UK because non-citizens need the right visa to work in film, TV or theatre and that visa process can be difficult to obtain, with a 3 month work limit and a requisite certificate of sponsorship required if successful. Also UK salaries are lower than Broadway plus there is a liability for UK taxes as well as other considerations. It would probably not be worthwhile for either actor or producer to consider these machinations for just one appearance in one episode of a TV series. On the other hand, Edgar Frankland who is a regular in this series, is played by US born Hollywood actor Harry Ditson. He married the daughter of a British peer (see relevant entries in Debretts) so presumably may have had some special residential or other exceptional circumstances allowing him to more easily work in the UK.
@@willystanford Thanks (and Happy Christmas!) Still a mystery why Brits didn't have better accent training! Unless in protest at Dick Van Dyke's "cockney"?!

Thanks---my cup of tea !
Excellent!!
Doesn't Geoffrey Palmer suffer beautifully!!
Yes. He would have made an excellent Henry Corner in ‘Not In Front of the Children.’
Love this series and I loved Margaret Courtenay but they should have got an American actress as her American accent is terrible!

Wow!

I'm with Donald: homeopathy is the most tremendous balls
Struth, Julie Covington's rendering is about as painful to listen to as a six year old child playing the recorder.
