Worked several summers as an equipment assistant during training camps for Packers as teenager. I helped Coach Greene's son Gavin learn the ropes one camp. Seeing how positive he was to his son was a lesson I kept with me as I'm set to become a father next year. His graciousness to me for helping his son was appreciated, as was the conversation over lunch I had with him where he listened to my future career goals and encouraged me. A rare combination of intensity, energy, and warmth.
Great story Eddie, I was an equipment kid with the Toronto Argos in the CFL many moons ago. In fact your old boss was a buddy of mine with Montreal. Red Batty is a legend, Camp stories are the best and it's great you have those memories. Best of luck to you my man.
Kevin Greene sounds like a dude who LOVED football and just loved that he got to live his life being around it. Great player, great son, great father, great man; RIP
It was sad to hear about this and it caught me by surprise. I remember Kevin Greene when he was part of that great linebacking corps in Pittsburgh when they also had Greg Lloyd, Chad Brown, and Levon Kirkland. That was a great defense that’s often forgotten bc they lost that Super Bowl in 1995 to the Triplet Cowboys. At least Kevin got a Super Bowl ring as a linebacker coach in Green Bay. RIP Kevin Greene, we will never forget you.
@@frankcabral8003 The only thing was that it was the linebackers that were providing the pressure unlike the D-lineman that they had back in the 70’s with Mean Joe Green, LC Greenwood, Dwight White, and John Banazack. Also the defensive schemes were different where the 90’s Pittsburgh Steelers defense was a 3-4 zone blitz defense while the 70’s Steelers were the original Tampa 2 defense where you had 4 down lineman and two or three linebackers playing zone in the middle part of the field.
Whenever I NEED a quick laugh I just pull up this vid and watch AJ tell the "A to the J" story. Brings me back every time! AJ adds so much to the vibe of the show,
When Kevin Greene told Matthew’s “it is time” during the super bowl and then Matthew’s forced the fumble is one of the greatest football moments of all time
Kevin Greene is a legend and my favorite all time player. He made me switch from a Browns fan to a Steelers fan for a few years. He is and will be missed.
I met KEVIN GREENE at the station square in Pittsburgh the day before a home game.I hounded him for an autograph to the point of him getting pissed at me! He was going to eat at a restaurant in the mall and when he was done he gladly signed a picture of him I had purchased. I apologized and in true KEVIN GREENE FASHION he said it was all good and shook my hand! TRUE CHAMPION IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD! RIP MY FRIEND HUMAN BEINGS LIKE YOU DON'T COME ALONG EVERY DAY!!! SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL ALL DAY EVERY DAY🏉🏉🏉
RIP Kevin Greene. Life time Steeler fan! I loved watching him and Lloyd get at it! I wish the Black & Gold coulda given him a ring! Part of one of the best defences ever with us! Quiver and Quake! Shake and Bake! Thoughts and prayers to his family and everyone who ever loved the man! He'll always be a Steeler to me!
Kevin was a huuuge part of the reason I became a NFL football fan as a kid. He was never boring, and the way he so clearly Loved playing the game made you love it too. So, so glad I got to grow up watching him play!
R.i.p Mr Green. I am so glad I got to see you play when I was playing high-school ball I always emulated the way you would hold up the end of the line of scrimmage,or shoot that gap with no fear. You and Gregg loyld played the run magnificent.
God Bless Kevin Greene, when he was a Panther in 1996, before the NFC Title game he quoted one of my favorite pre-game speeches for NFL Films. "Kids grow up knee high to a grasshopper, dreaming about playing in a game like today, FREEZIN! FROZEN TUNDRA OF LAMBEAU FIELD! Where else would you want to be? I'm glad I'm here thank you!"
Shoot I had that packers super bowl vhs as a kid and I remember him. I had no idea who he was at the time, but Iremember that exact moment from the video.
If anyone wants a sense of who Kevin Greene was, I highly recommend watching his Hall Of Fame induction speech. Beyond being a great player, he had that type of energy that just LIFTS YOU UP. Fun, funny, passionate, high-energy, you name it. Also a former military man that supported our troops actively, great family man, you name it. He was what "being alive" is all about. RIP big guy.
Got to meet Kevin Greene at a golf tournament in my hometown in Florida where he lives as well. Such a funny and a nice guy. He was a monster on the field. Sad to see him gone. RIP.
When the Steelers practiced on the N. Side I was in college and I wasn’t paying attention running across the street. I collided with this huge man and fell on my backpack. The man picked me up and was nice and concerned about safety. The man was Kevin. I have to admit it hurt like heck but seeing him standing there in that Steelers uniform and being so kind. All was forgiven. A good story to tell throughout the years.
Stories remind me of my old highschool lineman coach. He coached my brother at tackle for 4 years and i came in as a tight end. So id spend time with the lineman but he wasn't my direct coach like AJ said. Good coaches that are good dudes make the day to day so much better. Rest in power KG. Don't make em like you anymore
RIP to a legend. Selfishly I wish we could have seen Kevin Greene as a guest on the show. I'm sure a conversation with Pat, AJ, and him would be a top 5 interview for the show. That man is cobra striking in heaven now!
Never got to watch him play was introduced to him through madden ultimate team he balled out for my team then one day his hall of fame speech got recommended to me and he seems like such a good human sucks to see him go. Rip KG
it could be said death is for the living how people remember you and talk about you and what we can get from the memories built. And hearing these stories makes me happy. Godspeed Kevin Greene. As my father would have said "He had a good run".
It's just shame that we lost him this year because he was part of my childhood and I'm now 42 years old this year and he's still be missed by all the people he knew him best
Ol Kevin Green. Was one of my favorite 49ers ever. Remember when he got traded to i believe carolina and punched the coach a year or so down the rd 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Lost an Auburn Legend on & off the field! He succeeded at everything he did, especially life! War Damn Eagle brother🦅 You’re flying with the Angels now!💯👍✅
When you are an Apex Predator Alpha Male with a heart of gold, surrounded by other psychologically & fundamentally stable & functional Alpha Males who love their lives, this "A to the J I saw that" level of mentality AJ speaks of, is the modes operandi of the day. Life just does NOT get any better than than ^^that!^^
Kevin Greene's size, speed, strength, flexibility and just his complete overall physical capabilities were ahead of their time. IMO good enough to thrive even in todays game but when u consider them with his overall approach to he game and what his presence was on the field and the effect he had on his teammates then u can began to really understand how freakin great he truly was!
Lived in my area for years. Met him twiCe. Lots of NFL players are assholes but not him. Super nice guy. Lots of my friends met him too. Nobody had a bad story about him.
I am lifetime Rams fan that is also a lifetime Kevin Greene fan. He was a game changer on Defense. Hell the Rams created a Defensive scheme to Kevin Greene. The Eagle Defense. I can only imagine the fear QB's had with KG on one side and Greg Loyd on the other with the Steelers. He seemed to be one of those rare people who never had a bad day. Just enjoying getting to play Football for a living.
Kevin Greene was probably a Y2J fan. AJ could probably look like Y2J also. That is my guess where the nickname came from. Greene was a wrestler so easy transition.
Please just give us 2 hours of AJ telling stories about this guy.
Seriously please would be amazing
Yes please do a whole show
Would love to hear Clays stories as well
You can tell AJ cares about him
@@mattcox3373 yes have him on give them a day. Needs to be in person in a bar setting.
