Just a small hint from an old gunsmith. Cold Blue works best when the parts are fully degreased and then heated to at least 200f prior to application. Birchwood Casey used to include that info with their product. After the degrease step drop the parts in boiling water and then immediately apply the cold blue liquid. Gives a beautiful finish! Love your videos!
I love these videos. No dialog and jus the sounds of the tools. You should add a before and after at the very end so you can see the final progress! Keep them coming!
You are physicist, chemist, restorer, blacksmith, leatherworker, knifemaker and youtuber...and you are the best at all of this works. Thank you for inspired me since 6 months. Keep doing bro, you are great. Greetings from Poland! 🔥💪
A friend had a chrome-plating shop. He told me that to get good results the base metal should be mirror-polished. It then goes to COPPER plating, washing and then, nickel plating. That way you get a shiny finish
Great job, especially with the plating. I have a 1911 that needs some re-plating, and I figure I am going to give it a go. Same setup as you have. Now I know I am going in the right direction.
Good job, it looks great. A good way to get a deep bluing is to warm your part in the oven on it's lowest setting and submerge the part into a bath of bluing to get an even coat. I've had great success doing rifles this way.
I really love the F. Rosa milling machine that you have. One day I will get me one too. The plating project you are doing will work better if you first plate the steel with copper first and then nickel. Also, use a transformer with a very high hurtz rating will give you a really smooth plate job. I know cause I worked in a plating company. Their is a lot that goes into a plating job. Keep on making more videos too.
I love that look! Especially what the Cold Blue does to the metal to darken it. I bet that will be a very well used tool!. Looks awesome. Good work! Jim (UK)
Nice to see you know enough to pour acid into water and not the other way around ;) In order to get a good plate the surfaces must be spotless, no dirt or corrosion .
One of the all-too-rare RUclips channels where the vise is solidly mounted.👍 I enjoyed how you showed where you corrected your spelling. I wonder how durable the plating will be, and if it would have been worthwhile to plate with copper before the nickel.
I’m reminded why I unsubscribed to so many restoration channels, but not this one. You stopped polishing when it made sense, instead of insisting on giving every single part a damn mirror finish.
Nice job there , some tool restoration has to include smaller tools as well as the more complicated machines. Specially when it's something that you can readily use.
Parts washers are pretty inexpensive considering the benefit. You should see if you can pick on up cheap on craigslist and restore it then use it! It would make cleaning things like this a breeze
Nice one 😋 Had a girlfriend who was allergic to nickel plating, so beware. Dunno about nickel plating on springs, always though it would brake of directly. 🤔
What type of grease fitting is that used on? I am familiar with Zerk fittings which are commonly used on (older)automobiles and agricultural machinery, where the gun nozzle tends to snap upon the grease fitting.
Its called greasing the gear system. You but oil in your cars engine right? Same reason here. Prevents internal rust and smooth performance, and longevity preventing wear.
@@Sergei_kv82 The multiple question marks and me calling it jam didn't tip you off? I appreciate you taking the time to inform me about greasing gears though. Thank you.

Nifty! Bit of elbow grease and some basic chemistry, and you have a nice greaser! :D
It's actually pretty acidic chemistry.....lolz
The most steampunk tool ever. Lovely job!
I love watching people restore things and continue using it.
Eccellente! Lavorazione molto intelligente.
Satisfying vid. I feel better now. 👍🏻

Great video! Very simple methods, really attainable for the average person.

I thought the plating was sub par. Thank you for your comment.

Меня радует этот чувак!
I have never seen a zerk like the ones you are greasing, and i have been around old machinery my whole life.
gut gemacht...!
Nice job! 👍
So great the spell check 😂
Well done 👍👍👍
you did a great job,i like it.thinks for charing.
Great job as always!
Very nice!
Наконец то дождался нового ролика
Super cool and I learned a lot!!!
Great Minds Think Alike! As soon as the the parts were plated I thought the barrel needs to be blued!
Veramente spettacolare
Nice project 💪🏻 like it👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Davvero complimenti!

Now that's cool !
I think it's pretty dope how you are building a shop by restoring tools. Or at least that what you appear to be doing...
I must have lead a sheltered life since I'd never seen a grease gun operate that way. Interesting plunger assembly.
Hi bro 👋👋👋 very good restoration 👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Damn that looks good
Loved this vid!!
Awesome bro!
When I saw nickel, I thought: is this trying to do chrome plating? 😊
Great job!

Is your home near a racetrack? I can hear hi-speed autos. Wonderful vid, excellent restoration work

Super, merci pour ton partage....@+
Great👍💐
КРРРАСОТА!!!
Very cool. And if you didn't need it for greasing things, it'd make a really neat ketchup dispenser ;)
You are a genius. Do you know any home-made cold blue formula or process?🤔
What type of grease fitting is that used on? I am familiar with Zerk fittings which are commonly used on (older)automobiles and agricultural machinery, where the gun nozzle tends to snap upon the grease fitting.
Electrochemical polishing, pretty much reverse electroplating would have been a good way to prepare the parts for plating.
Imagine, if that was a caulking gun. You'd have holes in the walls, pushing so hard to get anything out. =O
That is a lotta work for a weird strawberry jam dispenser....
What is all that brown stuff in the greaser?
Vladislav Aleinikov Grease?
Nutella
Legends has it he using that toothbrush for his teeth too
Very nice! I'm addicted to your channel! Are you brazilian?
How do you keep your wood work bench in such nice condition with all those old dirty tools scratching around on it?
You need a parts washer.
Bel video interessante e ben fatto con tutti i riferimenti nella descrizione. Si vedrà un restauro anche del tornio se è il tuo?
a unique ketchup dispenser!
I'm pretty sure that you need to copper plate steel to really get nickel to stick.
Come hai smaltito il solfato di nickrl?
Why don't you add a tensioactive in nickel solution?
Can use it for ketchup
Jam dispenser
Why didn’t you replace the gaskets?
Indonesia 02:18 am
what's the flavor of the jam you used at 10:59
What did you use 08:47 min?
Were are you from? Thanks
Nice v:
Yeah, but can it slice through a tomato?
1:24 I am the only one who confuse this with caramel XD
Жаль рукаятку изуродовал
Why did you put all that jam into your drillpress???
