I used to play U18 for Germany 20 years ago and the problem against USA is still the same. European teams don't focus enough on playing better defense.
Nations are often slow to adapt to changes in the NBA. The NBA changed to an all perimeter style of offensive systems that require defensive players to cover the perimeter, and most international teams still do not know how to cover it. In the Olympics, if any team does not know how to cover that versus Booker, Tatum, Haliburton and especially Stephen Curry... any hope of victory can and likely will disappear in an instance.
I expected the USA to win but also for France to put up a better fight after getting so many top picks in the last 2 NBA drafts and hearing how well they've taught their young players, I thought this game would have championship written all over it
Amazing !!! These USA U17 players handed an even more devastating basketball lesson to France. France did the same to Australia !! This illustrates just how good the USA basketball level is above everyone else.
This draft class of players is so deep the boozer twins tyran stokes aj and cooper Flagg have deeeeeeeep bags already I feel like every one of them can be a productive piece on an nba roster rn not stars but valid rotational pieces
I am actually surprised that they not only won but also that dominant. France has overall really caught up on basketball it’s like the US is one still then there is France but getting closer every year.
Spoken like someone that doesn't watch basketball. This win is not surprising at all, I don't get why people think the US is not improving in basketball and that the world has caught them or something. Wemby is one man, doesn't matter how great he becomes. France has historically always had weak guards, they will never beat the US if they can't find a superstar guard to pair with Wemby.

They never were if we’re being honest. I mean yeah several Europeans and other foreigners are top players now but those are just individuals, but on the whole the United States best of the best is still so far ahead of the other countries that it’s not even funny and everyone will witness it come later this month at the Olympics when we steamroll to a Gold.
The rest of the World is catching up with the USA. Western Europe and especially Eastern Block Countries have stepped up greatly. However, that doesn’t mean the USA 🇺🇸 isn’t still incredibly dominant on the Court
Not in the U-17's. Until these young European players play in Euro-Leagues (or a comparable international league), NCAA or the G-League, they aren't facing likely good opponents. The amount of "quality" players these countries have at that age is a handful at best. These USA players go to camps everywhere and face much better competition; they got dozens and dozens of players that are "quality" for their age. Additionally they often get more time with actual NBA coaches, NBA players and college coaches for coaching, and they probably sometimes practice with college players.
@@JohnWick-qr4yc Agreed. France has the best shot against the USA, but I legit don't know how anyone on that team can stop prevent Stephen Curry. And even if they could, how do you also contain LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards and Joel Embiid? That's 4 NBA MVP's right there and perhaps the greatest athlete in the NBA as USA's likely starting 5. Then you got a bench with only All-NBA players. You got great defenders off the bench in Tatum, Holliday, AD, Bam, and Kawhi. Then you consider the Eastern Conference/NBA Finals MVP Brown did not even make the team. That shows how deep that depth is.
