- I've been a bit busy recently and haven't had time to get my editing done! However, when I heard of the sad death of Rob Burrow CBE on Sunday then I knew I had to get this video edited so I could release it on the 7th. The number 7 has, and will continue to be a symbol of remembrance for the legend that was Rob Burrow, but also for friendship, for strength, for courage and for determination.
This race is a really special one. The route is awesome, although tough! The first half is undulating, there's a big long hill ~mile 17 - mile 20, but the final 3 miles are super easy all being flat and downhill... Although with that many miles in your legs it might not feel too easy! This is only the second year that this race has been held and the support that the people of Leeds have given us runners has been unbelievable. From Headingley and West Park, out to Pool and Otley, the support lining the streets with cheering, hosepipes, sweets and more has really warmed my heart and reminded me why I love living in Yorkshire.
This video tells the story of pacing 5:30 at the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon while volunteering for Northern Pacing Volunteers.

Wow I love these videos - so much energy coming out of the screen whilst I sit on my bum ;-) Thanks for sharing.
This marathon really hit the ground running! It's just awesome 😎 I'm really pleased if that comes across 😃
It was great to see you that day, it was a bittersweet day for me, my cat escaped the house! He went missing for 2 and half weeks but I've got him back now. I also found out I'd got a new home with my partner so a day to remember! Well done and fantastic effort as always!
Oh my goodness! What a time! Gosh you must have been worried about your poor cat! And huge congratulations on the new home 🤗. Thanks again for marshalling Leeds. It was great to see your big smile 😃😃😃
"Hoses to the left of us, oranges to the right. Here I am, pacing in the middle with you"
Great job Nicola! 👏
Thanks 🤗 I read this as horses to the left and was SO confused 🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣🤣
@@NicolaRuns Nay! Although I did pass a gorgeous herd of horses with some cute foals on a run near Watergrove reservoir last Saturday. They were to my right though 😄
@@richardbuck1729 🤣🤣🤣 Ooh Watergrove parkrun is 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Running around there must be awesome!
Well done 👏 Looks such an amazing atmosphere! Love all the cheering and all the snacks 😊
Thanks... I don't think I've ever eaten so much in a marathon! Definitely a food PB 😂
Nicola as much as I look forward to your parkrun videos this is the one video I love every year. You are a great pacer. However, watching it this year is very emotional 😢😢
Thank you Susan. It's so sad isn't it 😭 Life is so cruel 💙💛
Good on you, he was a legend, will be greatly missed
Absolutely 💙💛
Well done Nicola 😊😊. I did Leeds ‘23.
It broke me.
Can't blame you! It's a marathon I'm definitely happy to be pacing rather than racing!!! 😳😳😳
Hooray I have been looking forward to this one!
Another fantastic video that really captures the positive vibes on the day and I hope inspires others.
Thank you so much for helping pace me I don’t think I would have done the hill without you. Cheers
Matt 👍🏃♂️👍🏃♂️
Matt you literally made my day! 🎉🎉🎉 It was an absolute pleasure. I loved editing this and seeing you there in the background just focused and getting it done 💪🙌😃
Aww, well done Nicola, inspiring as ever. Have to chuckle watching your videos, always running, always eating and always positive.
A great way to honour Rob Burrow, another inspiration. I hope his family can find some peace.
Thanks for the video, planted a seed and makes me want to pace a marathon now.
Keep going Nicola, you help more than you know, you make a difference. 🙂
Thank you so much Paul, what a lovely comment ❤️ If you're up this way then contact Nick at Northern Pacing Volunteers 😃 We could always use more marathon pacers 🤗
Brilliant video of an amazing event.
Thanks, it was really special wasn't it and next year's will be even more special 💙💛
Well done , rest in peace to Rob and of course to Ben ❤❤
Thanks Bren 💙💛
Whitekirk Hill before the Edinburgh Marathon? Crazy woman 😀
That might not have been the best decision but racing a 10km 2 days after the Leeds Marathon was definitely a worse decision 🤣🤣🤣
At 23 miles I was imagining you shouting Just a park run to go! But that was a tough tough parkrun!
Yay! I was definitely shouting it! 🤗 It was tough on the day because our legs were tired but if that were an actual parkrun it would be the dream! Net downhill without an uphill in sight 😃 imagine the times that would be run on that?! I'd definitely like to see it 🤩
Love how much you give back to running.. Its inspiring xx
Awwww thanks Emma, that's a lovely thing to say, thank you ❤️
Well done you, it's a shame that by the time you finished a lot of the crowd had disappeared. For us short run folk the streets were lined with tonnes of people shouting to the point the band were being drowned out. The stairs to the Brotherton were heaving, the samba dancers were nearly swallowed up in the throng and the Redbull sound system melded into the cacophony. The fantastic weather surely helped draw more people onto the streets yet for the runners it was draining to say the least. I too was thankful for the garden hoses and a kind soul with ice pops in the final few km. The public turnout beginning to rival that of the GNR, it was amazing!!!
Unfortunately, I had finished got changed and was cheering on the rest of the runners but threw in the towel just after the 5 hour Pacers ran by. I was just too hot, tired and hungry (even though I'd had eaten my pack lunch and had a beer) hence didn't see you run by. Pleased that people like you and the other Pacers ensure these events are so successful, running a marathon is bad enough but running just to help others is another level.
Thank you so much, we honestly love pacing, it's so rewarding! It's a long way but I find with pacing that the longer the race, the more rewarding it is 😃 And you're right, the people who need cheering the most are often out there long after the crowds have gone. I still thought the support was amazing though 🤗
@@NicolaRuns I enjoyed it so much I've already gone on next year's waiting list. The crowds were amazing. Next time I think I'll jog the half and play with the spectators: more high fives and larking about.
In my head I'm imagining running with a bubble machine...
@@BillyBobJoeSnr oh my goodness that would be epic! Potentially pretty messy but so much fun! You need to carry refill fluid though... And extra batteries 😃😃😃
@@NicolaRuns Clearly I've not thought it through, just seems like a funny idea similar to running in fancy dress. The reality is always a little different. I'm sure I could work out.
The biggest concern is covering other runners with sticky bubbles or it ends up raining and I'm left carrying around an extra kg of kit.
Great stuff Nicola, amazing effort considering your recent travels and feeling shattered. Well done 🫶🏻
Thank you so much! It got so much worse from this point! 🤣 My next video is from a 10k race... That I hadn't checked the date for... Which was 2 days after the marathon 🤦🏻♀️🙈😂😂😂
Wonderful video Nicola, such terrible news about Rob. At least his legacy will live on in the form of events like this. Brilliant stuff
Thank you 🤗 Exactly this 💛💙 there was a wonderful run fir him tonight in Leeds. 7 miles at 7pm on the 7th 💙💛
Unless there’s someone else who’s also running hundreds of marathons as a rhino I met that guy at London marathon when I was on the baggage lorries. What an achievement!
Once again you’re making me want to run a marathon…
I am trying so hard to get to 100 marathons just as little old me! 101 as a rhino is unbelievable 😳😳😳😳😳
And yay! Job done... Which are you going to enter 😉😜😜😜
@@NicolaRuns I need to put my research hat on!
@@katiepillar i think it's a tough call between a big city marathon and local races. One really cares about you and your experience but you may well be alone most of the time and the other has the crowds! 🙃 If you like trails then I'd maybe go for something stunning instead of focusing on the distance... But that's just my personal preference! 😍
@@NicolaRuns yes I was wondering about a trail one to get out of the headspace of just keep plugging along at a particular speed and instead enjoy the experience, but I think I need to persuade/bully a pal into joining me
Very apt upload and great video Nicola. Rob was an absolute warrior both on and off the field, the response from Leeds as a whole to this race is a fitting last act for him
Couldn't have said it better myself 💙💛
Great to see you on the race. Another fantastic event. Eve the 5 hr pace runner helped me get a pb when you see her can you say a big thank you from me .
Awww huge congratulations Colin! That's awesome 😎 I'll definitely pass this on ❤️
Thanks
hope you had a good race i only ever did the Old Leeds half marathon which started just off the Headrow when the Council put it on good news i am doing Bridlington half marathon for the 3rd time this year on October 6th such a lovely route and views
Awww I loved that old half marathon route 😃
@@NicolaRuns also used to do Sheffield half on its old course not done it for a few years bit to much for me the entry fees so i do the ones i really want to do ie Leeds Roundhay park half and Bridlington 13.5 2 of my favs
I didn’t realise that you’d done a PhD at Leeds, I’ll now refer to you as Dr Nicola! 🙂 In my last 5 years at the Uni I worked in the Faculty of Social Sciences Graduate School, mainly with law PGRs, and then I worked in the PhD Central Operations Team! What a great race atmosphere with so much support - it almost makes me want to sign up to do it (the furthest I’ve ever run though is a 10k!)
Yes, in chemical biology... took me FOREVER 🤣 OOH! Do it do it do it! 😜 Once you've signed up you can worry about it afterwards 😉😂
Was an amazing day. I’ve just go back from 7miles at 7pm at Roundhay Park for Rob.
Awwww I love that rhino route and adding a number 7 to make it 7 miles was so poignant 🥹
It was a very emotional evening.
@@RileyMackenzie-rv4ew I can imagine! 🥺 How many people do you think there were?
It felt like hundreds
Very poignant to see this - thanks for posting this Nicola.
💙💛
I would love you to pace me round leeds! You make it so fun!!! Amazing job ❤
Awww thanks 🤗🤗🤗 I imagine I must annoy some people by chatting so much but I get bored if I'm quiet 🙈🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣🤣
I am in awe, you are running at my threshold pace while filming and holding and eating snacks. I have a long way to go 😅
Awww thank you but it's all relative ❤️ But yeah... I MIGHT have over fuelled this one... I feel like I had a picnic in Otley! 🤣🤣🤣
Do you know what the last pacer time is please? Debating leeds next year but am a slower runner so a bit worried
There is a 6 hour pacer 🤗 You've got time to train... Get entered, it's great to have a goal 😃 And don't be worried, there is such a supportive atmosphere. I'm not sure if there is an official cut off time though so that might be worth checking if you think you'll be a long time after 6 hours but with a year of training then go for it I reckon 💪🤗
I just checked, the cut off is 7 hours Xx
