I have a Phantom 4 and I have to say the Litchi app is completely awesome. The videos created with Litchi look ten times better because you plan every action before the flight and you know exactly how long the flight will take.
Great Video... Just did my first Auto flight today (nowhere near as long as yours!)... When I hit play, my stress level went waaaay up. Thanx to this video I think I have more confidence to let out the rope a bit :-)
I have been flying drones for 2 years now and this shit still amazes me as much as the first day!!! Ill have my p3se in a couple days and I can't wait. Love this video man!!!
Thanks for the Litchi demo.... I am waiting on delivery of my P3SE and looks like I will be trying out this app for sure. Love the mission setup.... you're not wasting time pre-running the route like on the DJI app. Thanks alot!!!
Pegasus26M .. just found out some disheartening news... DJI has not released the SDK for the P3SE yet... until they do.. Litchi won't work with it yet... but I will be getting Litchi once the SDK is released
I have to update.. I got an IPad Mini 4 and works great with Litchi and P3SE. I haven't tested all aspects of Litchi and P3SE but in waypoint missions it works flawlessly
Very interesting video, as I have, but never flew with . Made some waypoints, so today is could but shiny day; I think I CAN test this. Thank you very much and best from France🍻
Great video of a pretty bridge! One thing I might add. You said I think it's all right if it has a little connection to the controller. Actually, once you upload the mission, the craft will fly the entire mission with zero input from the controller. You could turn it off! Actually, this was demonstrated many times in this video. You have lost all contact and it still flew the mission. This also gives a Phantom 3 standard unlimited range using litchi only limited by the batteries onboard.
Well, not exactly. I have a P3S also. I have tried tricking things to make it fly far away. The app stopped me from doing that. Uploaded the mission, and it said NOPE, not going to do it as it is beyond the range of the quads capabilities. I was like hmmmmmm. It lets me plan farther out with the P3A, so it seems to know the difference. I have seen videos where guys have sent their P3S on a long distance using the Litchi app. I have no idea how they did that as I have tried using different distances with no success. Cheers G
Now your TX looks just like mine, with that sunshade and the reflectors. I think if you were up higher, you might not have lost video, but with the reflectors on, its pretty directional. Good flight. Nice demo! Cheers.
Thanks for the feedback Bill. Yep, I finally got my reflectors and the hood! Took almost 2 months. I have flown some of this route before, but had to go to 400 feet just to maintain signal. Using the Litchi waypoint planning, I can go just above the tree tops and not worry about loosing signal as it has proven it will just fly the planned route to completion. With or without me lol
This was a great video! Thanks! I purchased Litchi last week and just getting started on using all its options. Its impressive, even on the standard 3. You have some great locations out where ever you are...oh and that bird that flew into view by the train trestle was perfect! You need to shoot that again when the train is running across it. Anyhoo, nice vid. Cheers!
Thanx, I enjoyed that video Mr Peg :-) I still fly with the DJI Go App, but have put alotta thought into goin to the Litchi App. Might just hafta give that a try now...
Thanks for watching. I find for the little it costs, why not give it a go. I have not regretted the few dollars I spent on it. Using waypoints with POI's, can make your footage look very cinematic. I just can't fly as good as the autopilot can lol
Thanx, I'm sure I'll get it soon... to bizzy right now though to mess with something new. Gunna fly another Balloon Glow tonight at a winery, and a 200 motorcycle escort of two buses of Veterans, to Veterans Appreciation night at a minor league ballpark. :-)
Great demo. I just bought it yesterday and want to get comfortable with it before I fly it. I have the same bird you have, I subd as well. Thanks for sharing.
Good video! Sure was nice to see that the Phantom 4 does in fact have environmental limitations to consider out in the wild. The software is impressing me more and more with each video I watch from other Users! Will have to boost up the time I shall take possession of a Phantom 4! (Can't wait). You in Ontario? I figure so.
Really enjoyed your video and instructions thru q and a. I too have the Nvidia shield K 1 and would like to know where you got the hood you used. Seems to be a must have for me. Thanks!
Jim Davidson Glad you liked the video. I got my sunshade from Amazon www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B01N1J0YD1/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486060648&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=dji+phantom+3+sunshade&dpPl=1&dpID=41fEV02VJjL&ref=plSrch
That's a guideline only. I have not broken any laws. Just wait though, soon enough I can imagine rules will change. In Canada, the only law regarding drone use... " Stay away from airports and airplanes "
Not exactly ! :) Maybe you'd like to look at this link below ! And I can garantee you that Transport Canada has a heavy hand ont distributing fines ! www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/opssvs/flying-drone-safely-legally.html
Yep. Thanks. Those are guidelines only. Not Laws. Do you know where to find laws in Canada? CARS. No where in the regs does it outlaw anything I have ever done with my drones. But I do appreciate the heads up. Cheers
Yes I did. My nephew gave me a Phantom 2 vision plus with high gain antenna mod.. It has shot so incredible video's that I have been told were all hand flown.. I have toy grade and a Parrot 2.0 and have been flying for a little over a year. Those toy drones are great for developing skills. I have flown this beast about 11 times with 0 crashes with my first flight in door due to a surprise rain storm. I thought to my-self, "With everything I have flown in this small living room, I should be able to safely hover in here if Phantoms are so damn great ! It was scary ! lol . But I have muscle memory when flying. That keep's me from making big stick movements when I get that urge. Just slow smooth small stick movement's. It was very cool. Very stable in it's own propwash ! Have a great day and once again thank you. I'm sure I'll have questions in the future !
Hi I have been having a few problems with litchi on my Samsung tablet. But after Watching this I have just ordered a NVidia shield k1 So thanks for the info and great video. (it had better work lol )
Hi, you mentioned the standby being short i have been messing around with the thing and if you go into your (Settings) then (Display) and then (Sleep) and set it to Never. Then the Standby does not kick in, and it stays on until you turn it off
Thanks for the tip. But what I meant was the standby time of the tablet. Meaning, how long the battery will last while the tablet is sleeping. I hate turning it off. I prefer to leave my cell and tablets on all the time, just recharge as needed. So when I compare the battery life of the K1 sleeping to say an iPad mini 2/4 or iPad Air2 for example, I'd say I get 80% longer sleep time from the other tablets before they need a charge. CheersG
Sorry I miss understood, But I see what you mean now However I am lucky because I will only be using it for flying. And on that I got out today for 10 minuets (in-between the rain ) for the first test and it works great I also like the built in screen recorder, apart from the small front facing cam that films you, I had to turn it of because the pitcher is in the middle of the screen and I cant get the bloody thing to move to the corner. I have tried the setting and the pinch and move but it wont. But the tablet runs great with Litchi and that's why I bought it so cant complain to much.
Hi very nice video. I like Litchi too. I think some of your video feed signal lost might have been due to the fact that at some point you are very far away 3000 feet or more and only at 150 ft high. When I go that far myself I fly much higher like 300 feet. 3000 feet and 150 feet makes a very small angle. It is a very good as far as instrument monitoring. Thank You.
Hi and thanks for watching. You are correct about the signal loss. But my whole point for this video and why I want to do this is because I want to fly closer to the tree tops, which I simply cannot due without the use of the Litchi app and its ability to plan a route being flown. Very useful feature. Cheers G
Hi and thanks for watching. The signal was cut into due to the tree line. I kept the drone just above the tree tops, and doing that the signal had to cut through 3000 feet of trees lol. That is mostly why I did this video. To show the usefulness of the waypoint missions. I cannot fly this mission by hand as the signal would have forced and RTH. If I want to shoot video of a flight just above the trees, I need to do it using a waypoint mission. If you want to see range, watch my other videos showing range testing. I have taken my P3A out over 11,000 feet with ease. The restriction on range seems to be the battery life. Cheers G
No Booster used, just the curved cups that you can slide over the stock antennas to help focus the send and receive. You can see them at the end of the video.
Have you, Will you make a video of showing how you made that Waypoint Mission? or a smaller one to show all the elements of the programming. I am guessing it not only can go from point to point but you can tell it how high at each point, orientation etc. can you have it hover at a waypoint for a given amount of time? then go back to continue on? Sorry for all the questions Thanks very cool video.
I have not made a video yet of how to make a mission of this length. I used a PC at home. Went to the Litchi mission planning site. Created an account. Went to where I wanted to fly on the map. Created the mission there, heights, speed, turns, camera angle, point to point, etc. Lots of trick using this app. Steep learning curve. What speed is best? What the camera does along the route... lots of settings to figure out. For example, if you have the camera point one direction at one point, then a different direction at the next point, the drone will start to turn to that new direction the second it leaves the first point. So if you want the camera to stay pointed in the first direction, until it reaches the 2nd point, you have to create double waypoints. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try to explain better with a video. Cheers G
Thanks for watching. Yes, you have to take everything into consideration when saving these missions. The camera will only be at the position you set it at when it is actually over that waypoint. As soon as it starts to move to the next waypoint, the camera will start to move to the next waypoints camera position. You have to create double waypoints to get around this issue. ie, at every point you want to change to camera position, you have to create a waypoint for that, and another one for the change of flight direction. Gets quite confusing, difficult to explain, at least for me lol. Cheers G
Good video! Thanks.. Nice to see all these little things without having to discover myself!....Just bought a P4 two weeks ago... still assembling the parts and pieces of what makes it better.. pretty confident with the way I can fly it, so starting to concentrate on software side of it now. I have a few questions for you if you wouldn't mind answering for me please? 1) During the execution of this routine, if you happened to make and error in programming, you could hit the pause button on the main controller (right index finger)? and fly it out of there... 2) Running this routine, if it was out of sight and there was an error in the programming of the run, the object avoidance kicks in? And what happens to the remainder of the program if its interrupted like that? 3) Assume the signal loss to the unit is more than just video but rather controller loss (the kids playing basketball accidentally knocked the controller out of my hand) and it hit the ground and broke!... Loss of signal would bring it home automatically... so the remainder of the run is abandoned and it comes home direct? Is there any situation where loss of control happens and it completes the run?
Thanks for watching. I will try to answer your questions, but keeping in mind I have a P3A and a P3S. I have not tested this app out on a P4, so I can tell you what will happen in my experience. 1. You can only pause a mission if your controller is in range. If anything gets in the way, trees, buildings etc, you cannot hit pause. Plan very carefully. 2. My P3's don't have object avoidance. My guess, the object avoidance only works going forward, the way I was using this app, the drone was not going forward a lot of the time, all about the camera angles and good video footage. So, even a P4 would run smack into something running this mission. If it did happen to see something and avoid it, my guess is that it would resume the mission after avoiding the obstacle. A guess only... 3. In my mission, the drone lost signal from the transmitter due to the tress and buildings around me. It flew the complete mission anyway. No stopping and RTH. The drone only stops and does an RTH if you are manually flying it, no mission. Once you upload a mission, and hit play, it will complete that mission with or without you. Be careful. Take your time using this app, test out all the features in a safe environment until you are confident in your use of it. Its a great tool, but a dangerous one as well.
Great Test and Demo of the Litchi App. Thank. I Learned a bunch. You mentioned you were flying a P3Advance, right. It would be helpful if you put the model in the notes. Cheers, RAW
Hi. Thanks for the feedback. I thought I had mentioned in the notes that I had used both my P3A and P3S in the testing of this app. One thing of note that is interesting, when using the P3S, and planning a mission, if the mission is beyond the range of a stock Standard, the interface will not allow you to try the mission. It seems smart enough to know that the range of a Standard is far less than a P3A or P3P. Cheers
Thanks for your follow up comment. I really appreciate it. I knew that range of the P3std was an issue, hence my question about which machine you used to fly the mission in the video. You additional comment answered my question Thanks for you time. You may want to see MontanaMonk two part tutorial on planning waypoint flights. His is on multiple close range targets and covers some additional capabilities of the Litchie App. I'm put yours and his on my compendium of great P3std tutorials. BYT the way I''m a retired Instructional Designer and videographer. Feedback is the second step in good teaching, so thanks again. Well done.
Anytime. Glad you found it useful. I tried to send my P3S on a long straight out and straight back flight... the app basically told me to get stuffed! LOL My drone just sat there as if to say, not gonna happen.
Just checked out your video and recognized the area your at near Barrie. I'm new to this and just down loaded the litchi app. Is there a drone group in the barrie area that gets together?? I'm in Stayner
J Jdair101 Welcome to the world of quad copters. You'll love it. If there is a Barrie group, I don't know about it. There are many groups on Facebook. I am part of the Ontario drone Uav group on fb. Just search it and you'll find us. During the summer we meet up every week.
Hi Pegusus26M and thanks for sharing this informative flight info. I have the p3p and recently bought Litchi but as yet have never used the software. Am I right in thinking once Litchi's route is programmed and you hit take off, the craft will fly that route regardless of line of sight etc? Regardless of telemetry the craft will maintain that route and altitude and return home? (unless attacked by a angry bird) Thanks in advance. (from Scotland)
Watty Hutton Thanks for watching. From my experience, once you start a mission, your p3 will fly it until completion regardless of remaining in contact with your controller. As a result, you have to be dead sure you have programmed a mission that is free from running into anything. If you are still in range, you can stop the mission. But once you're not..... be safe and happy flying. G
Hey! Nice video, if scary! I was just out in 15mph winds and it was a VERY different flight experience for me. I also managed to lose signal a couple of times, which terrified me, but you seem to take it all in your stride! Well done! I have a few questions: 1. Why did you hand catch it at the end rather than just landing it? 2. Do you find that the 2 signal reflectors on your RC antennas actually improve your signal strength? 3. Do you know how the missions are flown; ie does the Litchi software take control in real time, or does it actually upload the mission to the bird and it flies itself? Thank you!
Philip Timm Hi and thanks for watching. I always hand catch. I prefer that to letting it land. I find the cup reflectors do improve range reception. And the mission is uploaded to the memory of your phantom. Once it is, the drone will fly the mission with or without you still being in range.
Great video. I've got the P3 4k and never thought about editing 4k video before I bought it. Now I've discovered I don't have anything with enough horsepower to edit 4K video so I have had to do all my recordings in 1080p. Can you tell me what software you would recommend for editing video in 1080p. I'll have to get a better computer some day if I want to use the full 4K resolution.
Brian Laurence I know what you mean. I had to buy a new laptop and large external drives just to deal with my drone videos. For Windows there is the free movie maker that comes with it. I also like Filmora from wondeshare. Which you can download and try for free. Cheers
Great. Thanks for the feedback. I plan on doing a lot of filming up on Georgian Bay this summer so I'm getting all my ducks in line during this nasty weather.
Brian Laurence I don't shoot video much in the winter. Too cold. Batteries and quad become a bit unpredictable. Also hard to fly with cold fingers. Georgian Bay is full of beautiful locations for filming. This summer I plan to fly off my sailboat. We'll see how that goes. Cheers
Same here except we have a cruiser on Georgian Bay. The thought of flying from the boat scares me to death so I'll make sure I practise on terra-firma to the point I feel VERY confident with my skills and the app.
Thanks for watching. I use an Nvidia shield k1 tablet and the AZ screen recording app. When I do a screen capture it records voice at the same time. Works great for videos like this. Cheers G
Hi, first I must say that your video is amazing, I liked very much the way you can easily set the waypoints on the map and put the drone to fly through. I have the dji phantom 3S and I've been watching on youtube some tutorial videos and commentaries about the flight experience of those who have tried the litchi app on the field, when I was almost buying the app online I read some very bad experiences from other users, including loss of signal, drone turning off and falling down, and some other important security issues, it scared me so much that I've change my mind on buying the app, I am really concerned about the losing the phantom during the flight. I would like to know what is your opinion about those issues and if you had any bad experience regarding the litch app?
Hi and thanks for watching. I share your concerns. I have used this app with my P3S and P3A without issue. The problem is, anytime you hand over the control of your drone to the computer, you risk something happening. By this I mean if your flight plan is not 100% perfect, free from obstacles, good altitude, speed, range for batt life, gets chased by a bird, whatever.... the quad might not make it home. Just imagine your plan takes the drone out of signal range, not far, just blocked by something like a tree or building, you will not be able to see whats going on. No info, batt, camera, nothing zip nadda, zilch. Not a good feeling. You use Google maps to plan a mission, but there has been a change, something along the route that wasn't there before. You will smash right into it. Bottom line, this app is a very useful tool. Opens up the potential of these quads. But use with extreme caution and you wont have an issue. Happy flying, G
This is why it’s ILLEGAL to fly out of visual line of sight like this pilot did. Why he would put evidence of an illegal flight on RUclips is beyond me. There is a time approaching sooner rather than later when civilian drones will be legal to fly out of VLOS but those drones will no doubt be very expensive due to redundancy requirements.
Hello, a nice project and well done. Thank you for that. I noticed a little bit surprised the remote signal was lost at a distance round about 3000 feet and the video-transmission a little bit earlier, although you used a "windsurfer". Here in Europe, compared to other areas, the signal strength is limited. So i hoped, in the holidays i could try longer distances. But about 3000 feets is in europe possible too (without helping tools). How its possible? I think maybe the because the relativ low flight altitude?
Cheers G
Thank you for your answer. I understand the reason. After watching your movie, i am REALLY motivated, to try somethink like that. :-) I hope, the use of Litchi will be possible at DJI's new crystalsky devices too.
This is a nerve racking flight & it's wonderful! One question, can I use Litchi to fly to an exact coordinate? And then from there I just flip the switch and take control of the quad?
Quick question - do you hit the record button before or after you load and run a mission? I ran a great mission and never got a bit of video!!! I thought I hit the record before but sure cant remember!! Thanks!
Hi, I have been interested in the Litchi app, mostly for the waypoint feature. Do I need an internet connection whilst flying, and can I adjust the flight height when using the waypoint mode. Many thanks and great video.
Thanks for watching. You need an internet connection to upload a saved mission to the app. If the mission was stored using the app, you don't need the internet to upload it. The mission will be in the device you used the app with to store it in that case. Can you adjust the height while the mission is being flown, no. Its on autopilot. If you want to change something while the mission is being flown like height, you need to stop the mission, take over and do it manually. You will need to have all heights saved and decided on prior to starting a mission and handing the controls over to Mr Auto. Cheers G
Great flight--inspiring to those of us who are scared to fly so far..... How did you know how much battery TIME you had left? I saw nothing, but % on the screen
Look just below the NAVI at the top. You will see the slider bar that shrinks as your flight continues. Displays batt level in minutes. Thanks for watching. G
Yes! Always a risk. The worst is flying near lakes. Seagulls think its one of them! They fly right at the drone until they get close enough to see its something else. One of these days....
I bought the Litchi app to use it with my Mavic Pro but each time I attempt to calibrate it it gave me an error 1008. Have any of you have any similar problem with it?. Great video and thanks for sharing it with us.
John Burgos Hi. I have not had any errors using this app. That being said, I have never used it with a Mavic. I would check on Mavic forums or contact Litchi with the issue. Best of luck in your search for a solution.
Very cool! I've purchased the Litchi app, but haven't used it just yet. Two questions (If you don't mind); what UAV do you have? You mention it's a Phantom, but which one? Also, any idea why the battery info went to zero (twice). I would have had a heart attack! In fact, I almost did just watching your video! When it finally updated with the UAV in a different spot, I was so relieved! LOL Any idea why that happened?I've yet to see a video for the Litchi app where the UAV didn't perform just as it was told. That's the first time I saw a battery issue like that! (?)Again, Great video. I'd also like to see the uncut footage. That's a cool area to fly!
Hi William. Thanks for watching. Questions are why I do this. I use a Phantom 3 Advanced for most of my shoots. I also use a P3S. I posted this video to show what happens when you use the waypoint mission planning in Litchi. When you start the mission, and your drone goes out of range, your drone will complete the mission without you. In this case, I intentionally planned the mission just over the tree tops. Knowing it would take the drone out of range. But I have flown this area many times so I know whats out there. When the drone goes out of range, you will loose all telemetry info. Batt status, speed, alt, position etc. This is something we drone pilots are not used to. If you are at the controls and fly out of range, the drone will stop, turn around and come back to home. So you would only be without info for a short time. When using this app and in this manner, you could be without any info for 15 minutes or more. Let me tell you, it will be the longest 15 minutes of your life!!! For more footage of that area, checkout my other videos. I can post that entire mission as well. I plan on making many tweaks to that mission before I fly it again. That is one of the coolest things with this app, you can try the mission, and if you want to tweak it, go ahead, save the changes, fly it again!
Thanks for the reply! I was just planning a mission for a place close to me. Your video was a big help. I want to be able to actually SEE the UAV for the first few missions. I'm sure I'll get more brave as time goes on and let it get out of range eventually. Thanks again!
Happy to help. Things to keep in mind when planning a route. The drone will always start to think about the next waypoint once it leaves the last one. What does this mean? Say you want the drone to face north along a section of your route. Plan a route from 1 to 2. Set the camera to face north from 1 to 2. And if the route has something after 2, like 3. And you want the camera to face east from 2 to 3.... what will happen when the drone leaves waypont 1, is it will start to turn east as soon as it leaves 1. And you are thinking why.... you told it to face north from 1 to 2. Thing is, if the drone is told to face east after waypoint 2, it will start to move that way after 1, so that when it gets to 2, it will be facing east. If you want the camera to point in one spot along a route, you must double up on the waypoints. What the heck am I talking about??? In this case, to make this work, you would start with waypoint 1. Face north. Waypoint 2, face north. Waypoint 3, right beside waypoint 2, face east. Waypoint 4 face east. Waypoint 5, right beside waypoint 4, face some other direction. And so on. For each leg of the route you plan, you must have double the points if you want the camera to face one direction only, along that leg of the route. This does not apply when using a POI
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the help! That's been my biggest question when planning a mission. I like the POI idea, but (unlike the Inspire) my UAV - the Phantom 3 (4k) doesn't have a 360 degree camera. So, I'm hoping the drone will know to keep the camera pointed at the POI and turn itself to travel in whatever direction I've set it up on. This is a difficult thing to do by hand, if the drone does do that - it'll be much smoother and more cinematic than anything I can currently do manually. That's my hope for the app. I understand what you're saying about telling it the heading and adding waypoints to make sure it is turned that way. For my first missions, I'll probably use the POI method - until I get used to how it all works. Thanks again man. consider me subbed!
well done. I would have panicked when the video feed was lost and the battery flashed 0%. Does that mean the flight plan (with GPS) is stored in the drone independent of the RC? Have you been successful when your iPad or iPhone is out of communication range?
Hi Philip. Thanks for watching. Never a good feeling when the batt flashes 0% lol. Yes, the flight plan gets stored in the drone itself at the start of the mission. It will fly out of range, like even just 50 feet away if it goes behind a building for example. It will just keep on going until the mission is complete or it runs into something you haven't planned for.
Great Video!! Question: Why did you take off before starting the mission? I start my missions with the drone on the ground turned off. Litchi runs a check list and then gives me a check mark, I hit the check mark and it spools up and off she goes. Also what is the Red circle? Thanks!!
Hi and thanks for watching. I like to get the bird in the air first. See that everything looks and sounds ok before I send it off into the distance. Just me. As for the red circle, that was just a setting in the app. Serves as a range ring if you care to use one. Otherwise serves no purpose really. Cheers G
Ok got you!!! Not sure if you do this, you probably do, but it's recommended when using any third party app to first open the DJI Go app, make sure everything there is set up, all green etc. Then EXIT the DJI go app ( cause you can't have that one running at the same time as litchi or another app like Auto Pilot) then open the third party app and proceed. I'm saying this for the benefit of anyone reading this that may not know this. Sounds like you got it all down!
The recording done by the camera is separate from the video feed sent back to the tablet/device. So the camera did record everything during this mission even though I lost the video feed.
i bought the same kinda antenna amplifier and i think it's crap.. you can't adjust the antenna with the right angle when you put this on ..so as result you have more lost signal
I have found many different results. None of them perfect for sure. Basically without adding anything, we have these omni directional antennas that send and revive in all directions all the time. By using the mod I was, I focus the send and receive area as to magnify the amount of signal in a more directed area. As a result I must always keep the antennas pointed in the direction of the quad. Something I didn't have to due as much before adding this mod.
Is anyone having issues with the new app upgrade from Litchi? It worked perfectly, ran missions and everything prior. Now with the update I get a disconnect when my Phantom 3 is only 60 feet away!!!! Horrible update and dangerous to boot because I cant even force a RTH!!!
I apologize- the litchi app. I completely deleted the app and reinstalled, and still get disconnected. The phantom has the latest firmware. This only happened after the update of the Litchi app. I do not have any issues using the DJI go app so I can only deduct that it's the Litchi update. Thanks
I have the Phantom 3.. today I downloaded the litchi app and used it.. i got a height of over 700 feet. . very cool. I only been up to 375 ft with the dji go app. How do I set way points ? Don't knw anything bout that operation
I've used the litchi app a couple of times on way point missions. But can't find my video recordings! Shouldn't the camera still be recording even though the signal is lost?
You can set video recording to happen automatically or manually. But if you don't set it up properly to do it in auto mode, it won't record unless you start recording manually. The screen of your device will show you wether you are recording or not
In the settings during creation of the waypoint mission, you can set it to allow that control or have it setup as part of the mission while on auto pilot
The app is amazing and I have used it to fly quite a few missions. It takes a little time to get used to it and trust it. Check out my channel when you get a chance, I just subbed you.
I agree its a good idea with this app to start slow, until you get used to it and as you say, trust it. Takes some serious trust to let something else take control of your drone and just watch as it flies away lol.
What happens if you lose contact during a mission and want to abort? I can't imagine switching to P-GPS mode would do any good? Also, what if the battery drops to a critical state? Will it try to RTH?
1st, if you loose contact during a mission and want to abort, you can't. Only when the drone is in contact with the tx can you abort. 2nd, the battery has its own brain. If it gets too low, it will force the drone to RTH. Hope this helps. Cheers G
Great video. When you lost signal, what prevents the aircraft from returning to home? Did you disable this fail safe feature? I see that it continued the mission. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for watching. This one reason was why I posted this video. What happens when there is a disconnect.... the drone will continue to fly the mission without you. There was no feature to disable, this is just what happens using this app and flight planning a route vs actually flying the route. Once you enable the autopilot so to speak, shes gone. You'll only see her again if she wants to come back LOL
That's a great question. From my research, it will continue the mission only if you have the return to home fail safe turned off, which I do not. That's my understanding. I don't feel comfortable letting it continue without a signal. Some don't mind I suppose.
I believe the fail safe RTH function only works when you are manually flying it. As soon as the quad looses your command signal, it will always stop, turn to home, and RTH. When using the Litchi app, and a waypoint mission, things are different. You are not sending commands. It has all the commands already. And its on an autopilot mission. So its not worried about loosing you. Thus it will not RTH when it runs out of range from you. It doesn't care. It has its commands already. And will execute them until completion or something else, like a tree gets in the way. Be very careful using this particular function. Cheers G
MrRgarcia112 Only while making the mission. You can do it if you use a different setting while making the mission. I chose to have all camera angles and positions as part of the mission
Which distance limits do you mean? In this video the quad was well within normal range of the tx. However, the trees cut out the signal. That's the problem. You want to shoot a video from just above the tree tops, but you will loose signal, so you need to use this app to plan a mission to get the footage you want, even if the quad is never more than 1000m away from you.
Hi and thanks for watching. Using the app was the only way to plan your flight. Sit at a pc and plan it. Then get to photo site and just hit go. Very precise flying vs hand flown. Best feature is flying around something where maybe by hand you would lose signal and can't.
nice video tutorial bro. i wanna ask you,how if i do set a mission for waypoint and on it mission i have a signal lost but the mission isn't completed? does it hover or returning to the home point?and do i need an internet access to use this app? thank you before
Omiel Notosastran When a mission has been started, and the drone goes out of range, it will continue to fly the mission. You need internet do download the mission into your device. If you download the mission while at home, it will still be there when you get to your flying location.
Omiel Notosastran You asked if you need internet to use the app. You need the internet to download the mission from the Litchi Hub unless you plan a mission while standing right at the location you plan to flt at. You will still need to have a way to load the satellite map. Again internet will be needed for that also. This too can be loaded while at home before heading out to your flying location.
I have a Phantom 4 and I have to say the Litchi app is completely awesome. The videos created with Litchi look ten times better because you plan every action before the flight and you know exactly how long the flight will take.
Agreed. As long as you're careful with your planning, it's a very useful tool. Cheers G
Hey bro, where do you guys get all this good background music?
Great Video... Just did my first Auto flight today (nowhere near as long as yours!)... When I hit play, my stress level went waaaay up. Thanx to this video I think I have more confidence to let out the rope a bit :-)
Fantastic! Glad I was able to help. Happy flying. G
I have been flying drones for 2 years now and this shit still amazes me as much as the first day!!! Ill have my p3se in a couple days and I can't wait. Love this video man!!!
Ian Rice Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the Litchi demo.... I am waiting on delivery of my P3SE and looks like I will be trying out this app for sure. Love the mission setup.... you're not wasting time pre-running the route like on the DJI app. Thanks alot!!!
Todd Grisko Thanks for watching. Very glad you found this video helpful. Cheers
Pegasus26M .. just found out some disheartening news... DJI has not released the SDK for the P3SE yet... until they do.. Litchi won't work with it yet... but I will be getting Litchi once the SDK is released
Other folks are saying it works on Se but Ipad is mandatory...no android.
Thanks, glad you found it useful.
Cheers G
a color grade and ND filters could step up its value with such epic shots and moves
Fantastic flight...enjoyed it big time! And Litchi pulled through!
peeb Thanks for the feedback.
Cheers!
Dan Holland Thanks for watching. In my other videos you can see the train. Check out phantom finds a train. Cheers G
Excellent review and tutorial. Thanks for producing and sharing.
I love it can separate from the tx & hit waypoints then comes home
Brilliant! Great trip - watched every minute.
Thanks for watching
the best way points video I've ever seen 😎
The litchi app still looks the same now lol
Its right what he says, MUST WATCH!! Video was great, Thanks!!
Michael Webster Thanks for watching. Cheers G
you got a long way bro hope you make it I'm watching now
Thanx, I enjoyed that video Mr Peg :-) I still fly with the DJI Go App, but have put alotta thought into goin to the Litchi App.
Sounds awesome! Will be looking for that vid. Cheers
Great vid, nice one, that is a fantastic app,a must have for any DJI owner
Peres Dixon Agreed. Great app when used carefully. Cheers
Thanks for sharing this valuable info. Great stuff bro. Happy flying. DJ Soul Force
Thanks for the feedback DJ. Always happy to hear from you. Cheer's G
For better reception, point your antennas towards your drone... because you are using directional antenna.
Thanks for the feedback. Cheers G
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing.
great video! thanks for share with us.
Great demo. I just bought it yesterday and want to get comfortable with it before I fly it. I have the same bird you have, I subd as well. Thanks for sharing.
Chris M Thanks for the sub. Glad you enjoyed the vid. Cheers
You should also consider the DJI Mavic Pro
I don’t think I would try that with my phantom 3 standard ever with the wind surfer rang extender, which works great.
Really enjoyed your video and instructions thru q and a. I too have the Nvidia shield K 1 and would like to know where you got the hood you used. Seems to be a must have for me. Thanks!
Jim Davidson Glad you liked the video. I got my sunshade from Amazon
www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B01N1J0YD1/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486060648&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=dji+phantom+3+sunshade&dpPl=1&dpID=41fEV02VJjL&ref=plSrch
Superb video ! Nice and instructional ! Don't get caught by Transport Canada ! You're supposed to have LOS at all time !
That's a guideline only. I have not broken any laws. Just wait though, soon enough I can imagine rules will change. In Canada, the only law regarding drone use... " Stay away from airports and airplanes "
Not exactly ! :) Maybe you'd like to look at this link below ! And I can garantee you that Transport Canada has a heavy hand ont distributing fines !
www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/opssvs/flying-drone-safely-legally.html
montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/cameraman-hit-with-1000-fine-for-filming-with-drone
Yep. Thanks. Those are guidelines only. Not Laws. Do you know where to find laws in Canada? CARS. No where in the regs does it outlaw anything I have ever done with my drones. But I do appreciate the heads up. Cheers
And thank you for this link. Very clear that if you fly a drone for COMMERCIAL REASONS, you better have a permit for that. Cheeers
Sweet ! Thank you very much. Great video very helpful
Thanks! Glad you found it useful. Cheers G
George Cooper My K1 has been awesome! Only complaint is the standby time is short. Bit of a power hog with all those processors. Cheers G
CheersG
Sorry I miss understood,
But I see what you mean now However I am lucky because I will only be using it for flying.
George Cooper Good to hear. I use the az screen recorder free from Google play store. Search it and give it a go. Cheers G
Man this is cool! Thanks for sharing. Damn 15K feet thats alot.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching and the great feedback.
Cheers G
Nice video! I'd crap on my pants if I see 0% battery halfway.
Awesome flight well done, what brand of antenna booster did you use ? Cheers Steve
No Booster used, just the curved cups that you can slide over the stock antennas to help focus the send and receive. You can see them at the end of the video.
your a brave Man
Thanks for watching
Thanks for this video so good
David Lynch Glad you liked it. Cheers
Cheers G
Nice video...thanks for sharing! Noob question: Did you input the direction of the camera at the way points?
A nail biter for sure man I'm itching to get my Litchi on👍
Just checked out your video and recognized the area your at near Barrie.
Thanks for the video,good info
Thanks for watching. Cheers G
Good video, I really am glad I found Litchi, DJI Go does not work at all!
Well done! I have a few questions:
Great video flight I also have the litchi app, can I ask what you use to narrate while flying cheers.
+Pegasus26M : thank you very much, for your time and for sharing your experience.
You're Welcome
This is why it’s ILLEGAL to fly out of visual line of sight like this pilot did. Why he would put evidence of an illegal flight on RUclips is beyond me. There is a time approaching sooner rather than later when civilian drones will be legal to fly out of VLOS but those drones will no doubt be very expensive due to redundancy requirements.
Hello,
a nice project and well done.
Cheers G
Thank you for your answer. I understand the reason. After watching your movie, i am REALLY motivated, to try somethink like that. :-)
I hope, the use of Litchi will be possible at DJI's new crystalsky devices too.
This is a nerve racking flight & it's wonderful! One question, can I use Litchi to fly to an exact coordinate? And then from there I just flip the switch and take control of the quad?
Yes, as long as the quad is not out of range from your tx, you can override the litchi waypoint mission at any time
Quick question - do you hit the record button before or after you load and run a mission? I ran a great mission and never got a bit of video!!! I thought I hit the record before but sure cant remember!! Thanks!
Don Karsin you can start and stop recording as often as you wish. Before or during.
Thanks - I must have not hit the button like I thought I did.
Dude you had me holding my breath there for a few minutes 😂
Lol
The Dji app do talk to you. It says"Take Off, Landing"
And Litchi....
Great advice.!
Thanks for watching. Cheers
7:26 you almost got downed by bird
I always wondered when you use the waypoints mode... will it continue flying the route, even if it loses controller/video signal?
Great video. Was that a stock battery? You had a 15 minute flight plus 30 something % left over.
That was a stock battery. Does a great job. Thanks for watching. G
Sounds good. I use the app for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Cheers G
Man that has to be a record for furthest distance plus most way-points. How u manage to stay so calm ?
Good question. It was quite nerve racking to say the least.
Excellent!
Very nice job!
Thanks. I hope you found the video useful.
16:23 tsk tsk tsk. such language. Good video lol
I saw your video was choppy while watching on your phone. Did it show the bad choppy video in post?
Great info thanks. G
What aerial mod are you using ?
using the litchi app? lost connection, thought it would still record while still doc the mission?!!!
The recording done by the camera is separate from the video feed sent back to the tablet/device. So the camera did record everything during this mission even though I lost the video feed.
Pegasus26M thanks, I got it now. enjoying this app.
i bought the same kinda antenna amplifier and i think it's crap.. you can't adjust the antenna with the right angle when you put this on ..so as result you have more lost signal
Don Karsin Do you mean the update for the Phantom, or the Litchi app
I apologize- the litchi app. I completely deleted the app and reinstalled, and still get disconnected. The phantom has the latest firmware. This only happened after the update of the Litchi app. I do not have any issues using the DJI go app so I can only deduct that it's the Litchi update. Thanks
I have the Phantom 3.. today I downloaded the litchi app and used it.. i got a height of over 700 feet. . very cool. I only been up to 375 ft with the dji go app.
How do I set way points ? Don't knw anything bout that operation
I'm sorry I have not done a video on how to do that. I found so many videos on RUclips that did a great job of that I decided not to do one.
Pegasus26M Sunday I got it up to 1345 feet. Just with the DJI app
I'm planning on doing a video soon of it
I've used the litchi app a couple of times on way point missions. But can't find my video recordings! Shouldn't the camera still be recording even though the signal is lost?
You can set video recording to happen automatically or manually. But if you don't set it up properly to do it in auto mode, it won't record unless you start recording manually. The screen of your device will show you wether you are recording or not
Do you have a control on heading/yaw when running waypoint function, how to set?
In the settings during creation of the waypoint mission, you can set it to allow that control or have it setup as part of the mission while on auto pilot
lol the instrumental or whatever??? that whas litt
Nice Channel, subbed you right back!
Thanks for the sub and keep posting!
What happens if you lose contact during a mission and want to abort? I
can't imagine switching to P-GPS mode would do any good? Also, what if
the battery drops to a critical state? Will it try to RTH?
1st, if you loose contact during a mission and want to abort, you can't. Only when the drone is in contact with the tx can you abort. 2nd, the battery has its own brain. If it gets too low, it will force the drone to RTH. Hope this helps. Cheers G
Hey just one ? What toggle setting should I be in for this waypoint
Toggle F mode on the transmitter
Cheers G
Thanks Pegasus..... good advice. -- Mojo....
Where does the video and photos taken with the litchi app save to ??
I can't find mine.
As far as I know they get stored on the SD card inside the quad
Are nxp drones compatible with litchi?
How come it didn't rth when you lost signal?? It just caries on with the mission.
When flying a mission, the quad is on autopilot so it won't rth until the mission has been completed.
can you control the camera when it's on this mode?
MrRgarcia112 Only while making the mission. You can do it if you use a different setting while making the mission. I chose to have all camera angles and positions as part of the mission
get a magic it does automatically
can you set a flight that would normally exceed the distance limits?
Which distance limits do you mean? In this video the quad was well within normal range of the tx. However, the trees cut out the signal. That's the problem. You want to shoot a video from just above the tree tops, but you will loose signal, so you need to use this app to plan a mission to get the footage you want, even if the quad is never more than 1000m away from you.
you should have kept playing that the rest of the way point
I have a phantom 3 advanced , I’m thinking of buying the app,
Today after all your flights do you still think the app is worth the money ? ,
Hi and thanks for watching.
Pegasus26M do you mean the mission shoul be set on location to get a best result?
Omiel Notosastran You asked if you need internet to use the app. You need the internet to download the mission from the Litchi Hub unless you plan a mission while standing right at the location you plan to flt at. You will still need to have a way to load the satellite map. Again internet will be needed for that also. This too can be loaded while at home before heading out to your flying location.
Pegasus26M understood.
Thank you for your time
Omiel Notosastran You're welcome
wats the name of that song please

Litchi version?
Super
Braavo
That's scary! You lost all information and video feed.
The DJI app does talk to you
While doing the compass cal, my Dji app has never said anything. Just shows images on the screen. I have not updated it, maybe it does now?
What is that track @6:55 in the video?
Cry, by Vibe Tracks, found here on youtube under free music. Thanks for watching
Now every drone video I watch this song plays in my head. lol great choice.
yo what up ge how do I sus RTH on litchi ge??
What’s the music???!!!

Does this work with SPARK?
I don't know. I don't have one.
