When はは [母] came to fetch me, I kept my distance from her on purpose, but when she combed 私の かみ [髪] , I willingly surrendered. Not because of a girlish よくぼう [欲望] to have pretty hair but because I savored the tough あい [ 愛] communicated by her firm hands. In those moments, I wasn't too afraid of her having her way and taking me to Seoul. I even looked forward to it. Then one day Mother 裏切(うらぎ)った me mercilessly. She chopped off my hair while pretending to comb it. She didn't cut it at the nape of my neck. either, but right at the middle of my くび [首] .
