The Oracle said that Smith was a result of the equation trying to balance itself out. If x=x, and you add ONE to one side, then you must add ONE to other, balancing the equation. Both Neo and Smith are ONEs from either side of the equation. Edit: either that or a negative one on the same side of the equation.
"who is he" "he is your opposite, the negative" i think maybe because the oracle had the same will with neo that the war will ends someday and really want to go far as him, merely she can't seen it through smith as truly "the one" and play "dangerous game" as a mother program and doing her purpose as "i am here to unbalance it" the architect purpose.. my real question is, why the architect and oracle had a different purpose, why oracle helps human? isn't that machine hates human so much?
@@ferdiemvira the Oracle helped the humans because she saw that in the future, if Agent Smith won, he would kill all of the humans, leaving the machines without an energy source. Meaning both sides would go extinct.
@@Jacegon I guess she did it because she really wanted change. the Oracle and the Architect are programs just like the Frenchman but very powerful ones meaning that they have a choice and they have the freedom in doing what they want. it is the Oracle alone who chose human over the machines. and since she is doing the machines a "favour" by studying humans and tell the machines why they behave the way they do to help perfect the matrix because the "paradise" of the first version was a total disaster so they needed her to understand why and help them improve the Matrix. only then they let her free to have her in own choices and not question her. that is what i believe anyway
You want to hear something truly mind blowing? It took me over 10 years to realized 'Neo' is 'One' rearranged. YES! Someone that fucking oblivious ACTUALLY exists.
Only ‘good & evil’ doesn’t really exist. At least, not in a way how ‘Light & Dark’ really exists! I mean it does, but only us humans can comprehend good & bad. . Because in the grand scheme of things it’s only a made up concept. I know half the people reading this probably thinks I’m crazy. Though it’s been a widely known concept in philosophy for a really long time! So if you don’t believe me, just look 👀 it up . , . XD
Neo is the one, the Oracle told Morpheus that he will find the one But when Neo went to speak to the Oracle she told him you are not the one but you have the gift, maybe in your next life
I really like the take of Mark Passio's occult analysis on this. It states, according with the fact that the oracle is yet just another part of the controlsystem (which was stated by the architect), that also her prophecy is part of the control system, just like all believe systems of a messiah saving all humanity is. It is a lie created to keep humanity outside of the matrix in control as well. Neo is not "the one" because there is no such one. Everyone can and must be the one in order to free themselves from the slavery. But every human being within or outside of the matrix was deceived into thinking that there hast to be a messiah figue on whom they should rely. As a prevention to believe in themselves and take the nessesary actions. That's why Neo - just like Jesus Christ - died for the sins of all humans who did not recognize the power within themselves, the power to destroy the matrix with their minds. And that is also why the Matrix still existed after Neos death. He was - like Jesus - nothing but a role model - the only one who believed in himself and that way empored himself to do the wonders he did. A role model everybody should've followed to earn a life in paradise, but yet nobody did that's why the machines were able to build another even more vicious matrix --> Matrix 4.
@@imltiii not really, the point of the spoon thing was to illustrate that everything there wasn't real. If you could convince your unconcious mind of that fact then it frees you from the mental construct of a physical body in the matrix. Honestly later parts of Sword Art Online and it's sequel Accel world explain the idea better. It fits into "I think, therefore I am." 's logical extension of "We think therefore the world is." Essentially the world of the matrix is created by the minds of the people being guided by the programs into following the structure laid out. So it glitches out and releases people from it when they break the limits imposed by themselves and those around them. Animatrix shows it off pretty well with the runner and that annoying teen who shows up in the second movie. The second Neo convinced his unconcious mind of the fact that nothing in front of him was real he started to see just code and could manipulate it at will. His body just an Avatar.
@@picklemeister5351 nooooo goober 😂 Neo never bested Trinity let alone Morpheus in training, keep that in mind; BOTH of them knew they were stronger and more capable than Neo. Based off your comment either of them could've and should've believed they were the one, but the Oracle told them otherwise. No matter what "she" looks like the Oracle IS a computer program, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't want to die...like the other programs lol
@@ThatStevenLouis except neo went toe to toe with morpheous his first time impressing everyone and proved by the end of the series he was far greater than both combined.
@@joshua7426 could he beat Smith tho? 🤔 Yes he progresses ✌🏾impressively✌🏾 throughout the series, but if Neo's progress by the end of the series (as you state) is "impressive", then Smith's progress is literally nothing less than godly; dude literally created a world as he saw fit and created everyone in his image. Smith was so raw the machines wanted him deleted specifically; they went after ALL rogue/unplugged humans equally. The same forces/agents that was "sent after" Neo was sent after Zion where there were peaceful unskilled humans ranging from children to elders. The weak agents cut a deal with that one guy in the 1st movie to bring down Morpheus' crew while the machine "God" cut a deal with Neo to stop Smith.......Smith has his God afraid of him. Do the math 👌🏾
+Artbug The plot is actually incredibly interesting how the system of the Matrix even started. The movies did a decent job depicting it. The comics have a lot of back story.
+KingDuken Yeah. The Animatrix gives so much more backstory than the theatrical films ever did. Really helped me understand what they were going for in the sequels.
i like this theory because it states that neo isn’t the prophesied messiah, therefore, he’s just a natural hero who is driven solely by his own agency. it feels empowering to the everyday person more than a “destiny complex”
only difference is people stopped believing in jesus cause he wasn’t gonna do anything about Rome, then proceeded to crucify him. Glad Neo was able to have support to the end
Jo Black It doesn't need to be with actors, that played the original 3 movies. The story is many decades before the Matrix movies, if not a century... That's why it's so interesting.
What if that first One was actually Jesus? It never says how much simulation time is between iterations of the One. And being able to remake the Matrix as he sees fit? That sounds like a miracle-worker to me. Liberation into a new world sounds a bit like admittance into the Kingdom of Heaven. Plus, the name of the land of the free people, the ones chosen by the One to continue the existence and freedom of humanity, is called Zion, which is essentially another name for Israel, homeland of God's chosen people. Perhaps it's rather a stretch, but you never know :P
Bel-Shamharoth I mean, everything is possible, that's probably why nobody is brave enough to do the movie. But this jesus version would probably just dump the whole Matrix...
@TCT as above so below....and I'm going to assume you know about the spiritual end of the spectrum. Kundalini and 3rd eye pineal gland.....otherwise nothing would make sense! Hermetic library and occultism plays a BIG PART in our existence! You are on the right path....spirituality IN....Religion OUT!!!!
Yes Neo wasn’t around when the 1st matrix was built that’s cause he’s a reincarnation of the previous anomalies before him. They say this in the 2nd film. Also what probably happened with Smith is that Neo imprinted some of his digital self when they first assimilated in the first movie thus making smith a second anomaly that needed correcting and when in the last movie, when Smith finally assimilates Neo, Neo was jacked through the source allowing the source to correct both anomalies in one go.
@@snakevenom4954 They also make software that doesn't have a human body.. So, if she made him as code then he wouldn't exist anywhere but within the Matrix and would essentially always have his powers. Also, can someone explain how they've destroyed a city like 5 times already but the city isn't in the Matrix?
@@IgnoreMeImWrong watch the other video about the real world actually also being in the matrix. The machines did that to make humans think they escaped the matrix when they actually are still in it. Man these movies are crazy.
In the first movie, the Oracle implies that Neo isn't the One, but afterwards, she implies he is. Well, in the end of the first movie, Neo enters Smith. Whatever he did, it changed Smith. What would prevent Smith from changing Neo too? The way I see it, he "becomes the One" at that moment, alongside Smith. They merge. They're both necessary, they're both really just... One.
If you also watch the other people, Smith and the Oracle both state, by telling Neo that Smith is his other half. The Ying and Yang. So yeah, in short. They both are the One. But I only accept Jet Li as the only true One
The Oracle never tells Neo that he's not the one. She leaves a gap in her sentence and Neo fills it in for her, all the while believing he's finally come to the truth. In fact, the Oracle even tells him afterwards: "You've got the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something" implying that he's actually the one, but can't accept it.
I remember someone saying that Neo and Smith are like Ying and Yang, Neo being on the light side and Smith on the Dark. Smith is the evil version/half of Neo.
yeah and at the end of the third movie where neo and smith are fighting and smith changes neo into the last smith clone thats inserting his part of the code into neo which completes the code when neo is plugged into the thing....if you get me....
Neo is the one, the Oracle told Morpheus that he will find the one But when Neo went to speak to the Oracle she told him you are not the one but you have the gift, maybe in your next life The Oracle told trinity that she will fall in love with a dead man Then Neo died and trinity fell in love, she kiss him and he resurrected and that was Neo's other life were he became the one So all the three prophecies were fullfil when Neo died
Simple. Neo needed to be strong enough to defeat Smith so Smith could get loose from the source. As a result she got Morpheus since he's a really good hand to hand combatant and Trinity, someone who is also pretty good hand to hand and but will provide that boost of motivation for Neo. The Architect literally said the One was at the beginning and the Oracle made the one. Neo was made in one of the pods and he's only 20ish years old. Not the hundreds of years the Matrix has been around
@@geofthompson3844 Yes. Being able to 'predict' the future also implies that she knows what lies to tell to get people to do what she wants. In other words, being able to deduce how everyone acts and responds doesn't just let her know the future, it lets her make the future by giving them the stimuli that they need to act in a certain way.
Have you ever noticed that the spoon boy had 5 other spoons next to him on the floor that was already bent? As if it's a metaphor indicating this is the 6th time the Matrix existed
Smith is not the One; he is the physical manifestation of the oncoming complete and total failure of the Matrix. The system *is* crashing, he is the result. The system is crashing because The One has not returned to the Source. The One *must* return or the entire program will fail. The One has *not* returned because this version of the One, different then all 5 before him, feels love for humanity on a DIRECT AND PERSONAL level. Neo is no great humanitarian. He loves one person only. All previous Ones made the choice to reboot the Matrix. Neo did not. Neo did not do this because The Oracle manipulated him and the people around him. She is the reason Neo feels personal love. *This* is the dangerous game she played: she, through the things she told Morpheous, Trinity, and Neo, created the circumstances wherein The One fell in love and refused to reboot. She did not want the system to repeat as it had 5 times before. She wanted humans to be freed. She won.
Smith was a virus before Neo chose not to go to the source, Smiths turns bad because he is AI and begins to question his rules same as the machines did to humans its an endless cycle.
One question...Why do we see The Oracle's body lying in the crater at the end of the Neo - Smith battle in the third film? Regardless, it's fun to bullshit about this trilogy on the old inter-webs and hear all the interesting takes on The Matrix and its meaning.
@@Peanutdenver The Smith who fought Neo *was* the Oracle. This is why he had a vision of the oncoming battle. "I've seen it. That's why the rest of me is just going to watch. We already know I'm the one who beats you." Then just before he absorbs Neo, he says "everything that has a beginning has an end, Neo". That is an Oracle quote and the ONLY time Smith calls him Neo.
Smith was able to think for himself, hence the ability to function and strategise without the ear-piece in. His ability to replicate himself is simply his ability, as an agent, to enter any other sentient being or program still connected to the Matrix. Neo just freed him from the agents' restriction to only enter one sentient being or program at a time. This finally gave him the power needed to bring the whole system to a standstill, so he didn't have to watch us squander a world created just for us, for the seventh time over. It would be like an NPC having to watch someone else take 100 years to finish a video game, only to have them restart every time they do finish. After watching this for 600 years, you would want to destroy the console too, even if you only lived in the game.
But where did this autonomy of his (instead of the intended semi-automatism) come from? Although I realize, that there were depicted other renegade programs refusing to "re-fuse" with the Matrix and it's not explained in the movie where their "power of will" comes from, too. Why can't the machines (at least their boss, the Godhead) write more efficient programs or even reboot the system themselves. By the way, how can the creators of Matrix be so unintelligent as to use some of the least efficient sources of heat.... Why heat, in the first place? Of course, we humans also created complex societies in reality (I mean what we generally call as such) and also make a lot of stupid stuff. Also, we just started to think of more coherent hypotheses about our (somewhat) self-conscious mind... ....and after all, maybe we are just super complex automatons (look up superdeterministic interpretations of QM experiments).
@@Littleprinceleon "By the way, how can the creators of Matrix be so unintelligent as to use some of the least efficient sources of heat.... Why heat, in the first place?" @@wtfisthis2316 Yes. As they are chatting in the first movie, she implies this, which seems to bring a combination of relief and disappointment to Neo. The first line in OP was talking about Morpheus, who has pinned every hope on Neo, much to Neo's dismay. Neo was asking the Oracle, "Yo, wtf is his deal yo?" It's interesting to interpret what the Oracle's "Sorry, kid" might mean. On one hand, as the audience we are clearly being tinkered with by the directors, because fundamentally we want to believe that Neo is the one, and here is this supposed all-knowing entity implying he isn't. On the other hand, I feel like it's hinted that the Oracle knows Neo has to find his One-ness for himself, and that he cannot fulfill the prophecy without finding out for himself that he is that one. After all, what is she supposed to do? Tell him "Yes, you are the one!", and let him go off and get himself killed? That's all purely in the context of the first movie, but I guess also if you think about it from the perspective of the others, there were six Ones anyway, so maybe she was just having a laugh because, "No dude, you definitely are not the ONE, you are the sixth ONE to come along as a matter of fact".

@@od4407 Wow what a helpful and useful comment. I have updated to say "Sorry Kid" instead of "No". The intelligent reader would have figured that out anyway.
Only Smith & Neo combined are The One. Once assimilated The One destroys The Matrix. The Oracle say's "He is you, your opposite, your negative, the result of the equation trying to balance it's self out. The Architect say's "If I am the father of The Matrix she would undoubtedly be its mother." Neo is the bastard son of the Architect maintaining order over Zion and the 6th Anomaly to make it to him. (I say bastard because the humans in Zion are literally tossed out of their Pods as waste because they're now unwanted.) The Oracle also refers to Smith as a bastard. The game is the Oracles control over The Matrix & The Architects control of the Machine City & Zion. With both Neo & Smith gone the balance of power has been restored.
+Sophia Eris (HiddenTara) Sati ask the Oracle will we ever seem him (neo) again? "I suspect so, someday." This is the Wheel of Dharma - Neo will raise again just like Smith will. The Imagery of Buddhism is very evident in The Animatrix.
I also would like to see MattPat cover the Theory that the end of the first Matrix is the "True Ending" as in it takes place after the 3rd film. The One now has the power to change the Matrix & show them a world without the agents policing the Matrix. Once the Matrix & Zion become unbalanced again a new Smith will be born & The Cycle of Death & Rebirth begins anew.
That’s what I kept telling everyone when the movies were first out. That Morpheus, trinity, switch, all those people could do incredible things like Neo could, I mean who TAUGHT neo how to jump across those buildings, that whole “free your mind” concept wasn’t limited to just neo, I think that if you convince yourself you can’t do something (ie: only neo can do this) such as fly, etc then you won’t be able to do it because you’re restricting your code yourself. Neo was hyped up and was told he was the savior and only he could do all these crazy things and he used his mind to create the circumstances in the matrix that he wanted. However if any of those others tried and believed they could break these limits, they’d be able to. Also I found it weird how they never used those ships to fight the machines at the end of the 3rd movie, what caused the council to send the ships away?
That was fascinating and convincing. It has bought a sense of finality to the film to which i have yet to feel untill now. That trilogy should win film of the decade. Good job.
real talk - having just watched the trilogy again ..this has been both facinating and convincing. lol..makes me want to watch them again already but this time wearing agent sunglasses to go with my new perpective :)
i agree this video is great and makes sense. But film of the decade I think NOT it could have been film/trilogy of the decade if the WACHOWSKIS didn't royally fuck up the 2nd movie and completely destroy the third.
They weren't that bad....ehh gottta love the hater bandwagon, the one in which people hop on to avoid having to make their own opinion about sometihng,
So Neo was not the one, it was Agent Smith... Luke wasn´t the chosen one because Darth Vader killed The Emperor Frodo didn´t destroy the ring, it was Gollum, so Gollum is the chosen one Harry Potter isn´t the chosen one (sorta) Emmet from The Lego Movie was not the chosen one it was Lord Business... I will no longer believe in the main character as the chosen one again!!!!
Gorgoil313 Same. It's like when you're a kid and you don't understand all the adult jokes in cartoons and then you watch it 20 years later and are like holy fuck why didn't I get that?
Well, you can try. But let's not fool ourselves. About 20 minutes into that second one, you'll start checking your watch and skipping to the martial arts and shoot-em-ups. This theory changes nothing. NOTHING I SAY!!!
The monitor in the architects room clearly show Neo in his earlier versions. Meaning Neo was born in the matrix and he is the anomaly hence why he keeps coming back. Him changing the matrix is like Morpheus demonstrated in the simulation, it's not physically changing things. But breaking things like physics. Something a logic bound computer can't do. So when he flies or stops bullets in mid air he is breaking (changing) the system. But as far as the end.... Idk. These are very solid reasons for smith. But that doesn't count out Neo. And it doesn't explain why he has the powers he does. I think perhaps "The One" represents them both. When the oracle says "he is everything you aren't" they are polar opposites, but in that they are part of the same puzzle. Like yin and yang. I think they are both two halves of "The One" But that's just a theory.
+EdgeOf1996 A FILM THEORY! THANKS FOR TYPING! ...but in all seriousness, as Matpat commented on, the Wachowskis were influenced by Kung Fu movies so this is a really likely explanation.
+EdgeOf1996 I got to admit, that was my theory when I first saw the trilogy. While people arguing either side make good points, them both being the one makes sense. Especially since the Oracle makes it sound like their both the same person split in two.
+Dragoliched Damakos And it doesn't get much more literal than both Smith and Neo repeatedly enterring, copying and overwriting eachother. Queue hidden homosexual interxourse metaphor.
+EdgeOf1996 im not here to argue... but an observation i had the first time thru that was shot down by people beliveing the first line of your comment. if we are watching the 6th one... why are we not looking at 5 moniters? These arent the same thing over and over again... and slowly during the conversation the neo's on the video respond in a similar fashion. to at the very last pert... they all mirror neo's actions and quietly turn and walk towards the door that only neo made. Not the choice that the other 5 have made. I don't think this is the other neo's... i think this is is the architect's view of the conversation. Think of it liek a program... there are many different results that can happen at any given point in time... you prompt a question, what is the likelihood of a given response. "whats 1+1?" you may end up with "2" or "7" or "potato" he is simply going thru the conversation, learning, and throwing out the variables in order to understand who it is he is talking to. The obvous question was prompted immediately, and the obvious question is mirrored with all the other monitors. Then the scene shows drastically different monitors untill neo says the word "choice" and the architect understood what page neo was on. Remember when neo says "Bull#@$%" the monitors all respond in kind... but they all respond differently, reacting in different severity. In short, the monitors show the variables that neo could chose to do in the conversation. But this is also why this movie is so good... that these debates can happen well after the movie is out of the relm of "SPOILERZ OMGZ"
+EdgeOf1996 That could have been all part of the lie, like Matpat said and the first film showed. Neo was born outside of the Matrix, sure their are reincarnations which the tvs "showed" but did you notice how many Neos were their? Too many in the TVs in the Architect's room when their have been 5 previous versions of The Matrix till the one Neo was Born on. Since it was the Architect he could have been showing a shit ton of Neo's split mixed feelings all at once with each sentence. While "Physical" Neo wasn't speaking a majority of Neo's did and even if Neo was born in the Matrix at one point like Smith he would have learned The Master plan and rebelled and Neo wouldn't have been so shocked at what The Architect said. Also consider Neo KNEW the moment he killed one Smith by going inside him that threw his computer code Neo learned the Truth as well which was why "Physical" Neo wasn't surprised at The Architect's speech but his mind in a lot of ways was. Its like learning the Truth of a big plot point of a book or game or movie...or anything really. Your excited about a reveal but at the same time question it and ask many other questions in your mind.
It is consistent to what the Oracle said that Smith is to unbalance the equation, so it is pretty obvious that both Neo and Smith are of the same entity with opposite nature.
Morpheous tells Neo, there was more ppl able to do same things as Neo. Smith, on the otherhand, was able to absorb, multitply himself, and "be" that person... like he did to the Oracle. That is breaking code, i think. Smith makes more sense as the one
One could argue that the reason Smith explodes at the end of the 3rd movie is because by assimilating Neo, he also assimilates Neo's code. The matrix is green, love is often symbolized with fire in the movie. How does Neo see the machines once he's blind ? Yellow. He loves the machines and learns that the machines also love humans, he understands that there must be peace, osmosis between humanity and the machines. And by implanting this sparkle of love and hope into Smith which infected the entirety of the matrix, it reloads it completely. Making Neo the actual one. There's no final answer to this because the Wachovski never wanted it. You can analyse the movie whichever way you want, it'll somehow fit your point of view. This is why the first movie is genius, but the TRILOGY is a masterpiece.
I has always been wonder about the one's actually being Mr.Smith. Great to know I'm not the only one. Now back to figuring out how the Saturn 5 went around the 3 Van Allen Belts which journey to the Moon. Wasn't Nixon in office at that time? Hmmm...
what Reloaded had bad CGI?! how old are you? that movie came out in 2003, and the cgi was actually amazing for its time. compare it to other 2003 movies, or read reviews from that time period. nobody complained about the cgi
+Arkansause Peninsuli-Mapledoryme Well that's difficult to judge because the movies were accomplishing very different tasks with their VFX work. Lord of the Rings was creating creatures, environments, armies etc. The Matrix on the other hand did a lot of work trying to replicate real living people which is a far more difficult task. We know how other people move and how their faces look so anything off sticks out. But how an Orc or Olyphaunt moves is completely made up. Both movies have incredible CGI, but both of them have also been surpassed by what we can do today.
+Bre Fujimoto The Agent-Smith fight was mocked even back when Reloaded first came out. I remember people laughing at that sequence when I watched the film in the theater. At the very least, it was overambitious in its execution. CG just wasn't ready to render people/faces in close ups or even medium shots at the time. Heck, even the digital Arnold from Terminator Genisys suffers from the "uncanny valley" effect.
+Bre Fujimoto I remember thinking how BAD the CGI was when I watched that scene the first time back then IN THEATERS, hell it was the same quality of CGI people you got from the TV SHOW Enterprise which is from the same time period.
+Go Bogies Go the guys on cracked.com did that one already. Scar is secretly the good guy in Lion king. He's the one who doesn't follow the role that was given to him. He breaks all the social protocols.
This is how I feel about this whole franchise - would our world have become so controlled and shitty if this movie had never been made? If the idea of this menacing, shadow authority had not been presented, we may never have seen it, but what if it couldn't exist without us believing in its possibility??? ugh
Your other theory says the “real world” is also the matrix. So yes NEO was born in the matrix. So the story of the one doesn’t really matter anyway, as it’s just a way to pacify the 1% who reject the matrix.
@Shahrzad Mirzaagha When talking of the "1%" in Matrix, it talks about the humans living in the matrix. The 1% are the people that reject the Matrix and figured out it's not real. That's all. Machines created the matrix and there are no % involved in that.
Absolutely fantastic! I just found your channel and I gotta say the theories made me feel like I didn’t totally waste my time on the sequels and these short videos are more entertaining to be sure
My questions are still: how does Neo have those powers still? Power of suggestion was so strong he learned to free his mind more than anyone else? Also, how does he use powers outside the Matrix? (I still like the theory that even Zion was in another Matrix)
Remember the kids that were with the oracle, they have the power to bend the matrix to their will as well. They explained Neo the logic behind doing. They pretty much suggested that anyone could do what they were doing they if their minds could fully understand what was really happening. "Do not try to bend the spoon, that's impossible. You must first realize that there is no spoon." The real difficulty of it is probably just convince your mind that the matrix isn't real when all senses perceive it as real, like when people get scared when watching a scary movie. The oracle was mostly gambling on Neo figuring it out.
+Katie Wahl The explanation that I heard a long time ago for his powers working outside the Matrix was that there was always a sort of secondary program built in, that was essentially a person chosen at random who could operate both in and outside of the Matrix while still connected to the system. I don't remember 100% of the explanation but it seemed pretty convincing.
+Katie Wahl The only reasonable explanation I can think of or have heard for why Neo has his powers outside the Matrix is that the so called real world is actually just another layer of the Matrix. The idea I heard was that The Real World is actually a simulation being run by AI programmers to test Artificial General Intelligence they're developing to make sure they don't want to destroy humanity.
+Katie Wahl In order to understand how and why Neo can do his matrix magic, you have to understand how computer systems work, and kind of how they would think. Computers see humans as programs, and Neo essentially is a program that has admin access. As 'the one' designated by the system, he has all the rights and privileges granted to machine programs that are allowed into the matrix, he just isn't told what those rights are. Since he doesn't know, he kind of has to find them out himself, thus he learns to fly, to enter programs and destroy them, and be generally invincible cause he tries it out. Also, he sees the code of the matrix while he's in it, much like the machines. When you give programs high end permissions like that, it's system wide though. That is why he can go against the matrix's rules, even to the point of destroying other processes created by other admin programs (agents, the merovingian's thugs.) Now if you take into account that the machine programs in the matrix are not simply functions of the matrix, but fully developed A.I. beings that simply go into the matrix to operate (Merovingian, Ghost twins, the Train Man) and may sometimes leave it, that means the permissions granted to Neo are granted by the same systems that allow the AIs to live, not just the ones that make up the Matrix. So in effect, even when he's outside the matrix, those same systems are controlling the Sentinels, and Neo still has admin rights on them too. Now, how he's able to send the signal to them in the real world, that's still completely unexplained, dude didn't seem to have a wi-fi antenna sticking out of him last time I watched.
Conveniently Placed Goat I never consider myself a hardcore fans, and never the less, when the sequels come out, I read every article that come to the philosophy of the Matrix, everyone, in the old official site (that I think that exist any-more), but you don't seems the type of people that make that kind of effort.
TheKeyser94 I agree. I am lazy. Or maybe just a little sane. I'm not really a fan of deeply philosophical things but liked the Matrix because it questions reality and stuff.
Theory is close, but not quite accurate. Neo is the one in the first movie, but unintentionally shared parts of himself into Smith. So in the rest of the movies, they are both the one. At the last movie, the matrix could only be reloaded when the full code was joined into neo's body and therefore to the source (ie. When neo turned into Smith)
Since there is no official statement for this I see the video and your comment as theories on the same level. That being said my head cannon will go with the video because it is a few million times more interesting.
I can't wait for MatPat's epic crossover theory where he explains how John Wick, Bill & Ted, and Cyber Punk 2077, are actually taking place within The Matrix.
hey in the final fight in the matrix revolutions, didn't they land outside a building which looks exactly like the continental after smith rock lee'd neo?
That makes sense for the Oracle to send morpheus to chase the rabbit of finding the “one”. It wasn’t about finding the person to save the matrix but to find the “one” powerful enough to make the true one to destroy the matrix.
Yes he was, he was part human and worked frequently with them and dwarves. But like anyone that gets remotely that old, hes crotchety as hell. Plus Though Tolkien was the progenitor for modern fantasy as its been for the last 80 years he was a tad racist with it. Waaaay too much across the board of the genre lol *smfh *
+Benjamin “CHUGGADILO PRIEST” Byham wow that is weird, just before I looked at the comments and started watching the video I was thinking that I would have taken both pills. weird.
When he said that Agent Smith was there back when the first matrix existed I couldn't help myself think of Elrond saying "I was there 3000 years ago" to Gandalf😂😂😂
That REAL Question is..... "What was in that Cookie?!!!".... Everything weird started happening... RIGHT after he at that cookie... What if the cookie was a change in his code... that gave him simulated powers of the ONE... What if it was her way of infecting Smith... because whatever program that NEO ate (from the cookie) infected Smith at the end of the first movie... Think about it... NEO didn't intentionally turn Smith into a Rogue... something had to insert the virus... Neo was just a Carrier...
If you would have watched the directors Dvd commentary you would have found out that Neo is and is not the one and smith is and is not the one. They are both halfs of the yin yang energies and when Smith finally assimilates Neo at the end of the boss fight in the third movie they together become "the one."
Doesnt that add to the theory? The oracle told everyone what they needed to hear for the events to play out like they did hence the 'dangerous game.' Telling humans Neo is the one gives both sides a false flag while Smith unknowingly fulfills the prophecy.
Cory English Without Neo none of that shit would have happened, Smith adapted because of NEO blowing his shit up imprinting his code on him and allowing him to change shit, Neo went to the machine world, Neo jacked himself into the source, Neo held the anomaly code to reset the Matrix. Neo sacrificed himself. SMITH AND NEO ARE THE ONE. Opposite sides if the same coin.
That explains why one of Smith's final lines is "it's not fair". He has sentience, he thought he had won, but he didn't realize Neo was plugged in. Smith knew he was The One in the end and he believed himself powerful enough to beat both Matrix and humanity alike
My theory that the first _true_ One (meaning the first to truly wake himself without being reached out by the others outside The Matrix) was Dan Davis-the runner in The Animatrix short, “World Record.” He didn’t successfully escape per se, but he _did_ break through the binds of his prison by running so fast and intensely he literally woke himself up and learned the truth by accident, waking up inside his pod, felt his real body and saw reality for the first time. Then moments after Dan woke up, the Agents panicked and had the machines electrocute him in an attempt to fry his brain and erase his memory before they jacked Dan back into The Matrix-rendering him paralyzed and appeared to be brain dead. As a result, the Agents had to upgrade The Matrix programming dramatically, to avoid humans being able to escape without a designated “exit” only possible by hacking. It could be that it wasn’t for Dan, the others couldn’t find a way out on their own. He may have been the first! He eventually did gain back his ability to speak and said, “Free...” The ending is ambiguous-but I believe he could’ve told someone, even just the nurse about what he saw, which made others starting to doubt about their reality, and wanting to see the true world that Dan saw, because of what he achieved and saw-he set himself free all by himself. No other prisoner of The Matrix had done that.
To the stuff about why the Oracle would lie; "What did she tell you?" "Exactly what i needed to hear". So maybe the reason the Oracle would be lying, isn't to gain personally, but to grant her listeners what they really wanted, to end the war.
Well, I completely agree and support this theory because i am able to actually comprehend what he's talking about and to me it actually makes sense. How do u interpret it?
I can say this. Neo wasn’t born in Matrix but he did stuff like the agents did. If he’s not the one this is proof, how could he stop the bullets and got back up after death, saved trinity from death?
When I was younger, my dad let me watch The Matrix, I did my opinion writing on it in fourth grade, when my teacher read it, she laughed hysterically, because I had a category all about Keanu Reeves
Let's not go crazy here. They're still garbage. They were always garbage for reasons that went way beyond just the story, and the story is the only aspect this theory fixes.
He completely ignored the prophecy while using it as a qualifier to dismiss neo.. Smh. It said he was born in the matrix AND died.... Then was REBORN. Neo wasn't born in the matrix and didn't need to be because he was reborn
For my theory (sorry for the bad english) : You are seeing this with a binary mind, the oracle said it : Smith and Neo are the 2 sides of the same coin ! It's the Chinese Tao, they needed to be reunited to create balance and then harmony.
I believe that Neo and Smith were equal and opposites. I believe that was even stated by a character in the movie, they both shared similar coding. Neo was a catalyst to Smiths actions, and Smith played a catalyst to Neos actions. They both seem to be the one.
It was the Oracle who said it, but Neo and Smith do not combine to equal 1... remember she said Smith was Neo's opposite, his negative, so one is +1 and the other is -1 making -1 added to the remainder +1 yielding the balanced equation. 1 - 1 + Balanced Equation = Balanced Equation
The comments saying that Neo and Smith are both The One to balance each other like two halves of an equation is really convincing (or actually cannon). If Neo was similar to a reincarnation of The One that was born in the first version of the matrix, and Smith was reborn as a rogue program then they're already quite similar, at least in terms of birth and rebirth.
I think both are The One. Smith is the system side part of The One that accumulates the leftovers by assimilating everything. Neo is the human side of The One that is linked between being an actual human and being part of the system and able to alter the system to an extent of defying death and the basic laws of physics imposed by the system. Neo becomes the eventual link to bring Smith back to the source. Together they are the sum that balances the equation. Apart, they are both a critical failure to the system. Smith because he's a runaway program. Neo because he's a human that in time can achieve everything Smith could. Neo is the one that taught Smith how to assimilate programs. Neo is the one that showed Smith how to bypass the basic rules of the program. Neo is they key to Smith's awakening.
And every Free Choice makes an Anomaly. Agent Smith is Neo's Anomaly. As Neo gets more powerful, so does Agent Smith. They are Two. Only at the very end do they merge and become 'The One'.
Sati is the one, born in the matrix... out of 'evolution': Love between 2 machines... To produce Sati, whom served no purpose... but shows that she can freely change the matrix, by creating the sunrise for Neo.

One of the few Film Theorist episodes I agree with. Makes a whole lot of sense. But one thing I do disagree with is that Smith is the unintended hero. He's no hero. I do believe Smith was the one, but he and his intentions were still evil. Neo wasn't the one, but he was the one with good intentions. He didn't understand his purpose fully, until he ended up in that ditch with Smith that is. His purpose was to force Smith's code to free the Matrix, and he finally came to realize this. So, Smith didn't save the Matrix. Neo tricked and forced Smith into saving the Matrix, making Neo the savior. Also making the Oracle the program savior of human beings. She was a program, but she cared for human beings so much, that she was willing to lie to free them. A program with a heart so to speak. But also... I don't get why people don't like the two continuing films. Of course the first one is the best, and it's a good introduction to the Matrix. But the continuing films aren't really that bad. I loved all of them. And the trilogy as a whole is just perfect.
The Oracle said to Trinity that she will fall in love with the One, and as far as I know she loves Neo, not Smith. Therefore I got my doubts with this theory
She lied to everyone.... Neo was crucial to the Plan, also crucial that everybody would think he is the one, so she told everyone what they needed to hear to think he is the one
NOTE: Please read this carefully before replying or asking a question. It may already be answered. Here we go with the basics. Matrix 1 is about birth. Matrix 2 is about living, life, and how we manage to work. Matrix 3 is about dying and death. Zion is real! The Matrix is not. The Matrix was designed to provide a mental stimulus for the human bodies connected to the machines as a source of power. This is the sixth version of the Matrix. There have been multiple versions of the Matrix because of a flaw in the program (kinda of like Windows). That flaw is giving individuals the ability to choose. The first Matrix was designed as a perfect uptopia (see pt. I - Smith explains it to Morpheus; pt. II - The Architect explains it again) but humans did not accept it as real so they just kept waking up. It was redesigned to reflect our civilization at it's last stage before it was taken over by the machines (the year 1999). The Architect's problem with this new design (the anomoly) of the Matrix is that it require individuals to think freely, i.e. choice. It was the Oracle that suggested he redesign the Matrix in this way. But since humans have choices, so must the programs sent to watch over them, i.e. The Agents, thus bringing us the problem that is Mr. Smith. In Reloaded, The Architect continues to speak of the anomoly he is unable to get rid of, which is why at some point, he feels the only solution is to destroy (or "reload") the Matrix and those who are aware of it (the people of Zion) and start from scratch again. The Oracle says it clearly in Revolutions. Mr. Smith is the result of the anomoly trying to balance itself. Mr. Smith began to think freely (see part I where he is freaking out while interrogating Morpheous) and the result was a negative one. Realize this, he is a similar program to the One so he is far more dangerous than a normal individual who makes bad decisions. Mr. Smith's virus like behavior happened in EVERY VERSION OF THE MATRIX. The result would always lead to the same thing -- a system crash if they didn't quickly reboot the system. The same knee jerk reaction you have when you realize someone has sent you a virus. The One program was created to solve this problem. But each version of the One ultimately failed. Neo is different, in Reloaded he choose the door that led to Trinity, not the door that RESETS the program. Note: The Architect even noticed that Neo's experience in the Matrix was different than all the rest, realizing he was the first of them to fall in love. Onto Revolutions: Neo's choice has changed everything. The system is still threatened by Smith's behavior, so the Oracle makes a new choice; one she has never done before because no version of the One has ever chosen the difficult path as opposed to the easy one of just resetting the system. She allows herself to become merged with Smith in the HOPE that she'll be able to help Neo when the time is right. Neo makes another unique choice. He goes to the machines and asks for PEACE as opposed to simply destroying the system by going through the opposite door as all other versions of the One did. It was a simple as that to save Zion. Machines don't need very long to process that this may be a better idea than just constantly resetting the system. At the end, Smith says to Neo the movies tagline - "Everything that has a beginning has an end," as the Oracle is speaking to Neo through Smith. Neo realizes it all along, the only way to end this is to sacrifice himself. The Oracle noted that Neo and the Source (the computer mainframe, the Architect they're all one and the same so don't get confused) are connected which is why he can control machines outside the Matrix. He uses this connection to his advantage. He becomes a Mr. Smith and since all the Smith's are connected, the Source now has a lock on Smith and simply deletes him. Pretty simple huh? For those that like to dig deeper, than note the biblical references throughout the series. Heck, the French Man (Merovigchian) is the Devil, just read the elevator button Morpheous presses when he goes to see him for the second time. The Architect represents God - i.e. the creator of the world and its destroyer whenever things don't go as he wants. He even has you choose a select group of people to restart Zion again sort of like Noah's Ark. Neo is Jesus, the one who realizes that peace and love is the answer, not war. And the Oracle represents the Holy Spirit - the conciousness that resides in all of us. It's a deep trilogy if you PAY ATTENTION.
There's a big flaw there. The Architect cannot be God. If you consider God to be the ultimate form, with nothing and no one above It, and the Matrix as a simulated world (which in fact it is), the real world (where Zion is located) is one abstraction layer above of the Matrix. This means that the real God has to be at least one abstraction layer (or dimension or whatever you want to call it) above of the Real World and at least two of the Matrix, because if things were like you said, people who have born in Zion would be outside of God's reach since the changes inside of the Matrix have no consequences to them but, on the other hand, their actions could affect God's fate, if, for instance they destroyed the Matrix mainframe. That would pretty much kill God. If God is the ultimate form of creation, it cannot be defenseless against the beings he created, in fact the reality of things is the quite the contrary. Other than that, I agree with most of the stuff you wrote and share a somewhat close opinion. You might want to dig into Gnosticism too and analyze some of the ships' names, like Gnosis and Logos, The Hammer and so on and you'll find out that the Architect is in fact The Demiurge.
First point neo was not born inside the matrix The problem is that the prophecy does not say physical birth. Neo was the only ones that has the ability to change things And this birth happens at the end of the first movie After neo is born into the matrix he has the power to change what he wants
"who is he" "he is your opposite, the negative"
i think maybe because the oracle had the same will with neo that the war will ends someday and really want to go far as him, merely she can't seen it through smith as truly "the one" and play "dangerous game" as a mother program and doing her purpose as "i am here to unbalance it" the architect purpose..
my real question is, why the architect and oracle had a different purpose, why oracle helps human? isn't that machine hates human so much?
@@ferdiemvira the Oracle helped the humans because she saw that in the future, if Agent Smith won, he would kill all of the humans, leaving the machines without an energy source. Meaning both sides would go extinct.
Tf you smoking man 😂

@@Jacegon I guess she did it because she really wanted change.
the Oracle and the Architect are programs just like the Frenchman but very powerful ones meaning that they have a choice and they have the freedom in doing what they want. it is the Oracle alone who chose human over the machines. and since she is doing the machines a "favour" by studying humans and tell the machines why they behave the way they do to help perfect the matrix because the "paradise" of the first version was a total disaster so they needed her to understand why and help them improve the Matrix. only then they let her free to have her in own choices and not question her. that is what i believe anyway

“When the matrix was first built, there was a man born inside”. Straight from Morpheus in the first movie.
@@liamnehren1054 wasn’t neo reborn in the matrix when he died in the first film
@@imltiii not really, the point of the spoon thing was to illustrate that everything there wasn't real. If you could convince your unconcious mind of that fact then it frees you from the mental construct of a physical body in the matrix.
Honestly later parts of Sword Art Online and it's sequel Accel world explain the idea better. It fits into "I think, therefore I am." 's logical extension of "We think therefore the world is."
Essentially the world of the matrix is created by the minds of the people being guided by the programs into following the structure laid out.

What if that first One was actually Jesus? It never says how much simulation time is between iterations of the One. And being able to remake the Matrix as he sees fit? That sounds like a miracle-worker to me. Liberation into a new world sounds a bit like admittance into the Kingdom of Heaven.

What would prevent Smith from changing Neo too? The way I see it, he "becomes the One" at that moment, alongside Smith. They merge. They're both necessary, they're both really just... One.

She won.
Smith was a virus before Neo chose not to go to the source,
Smiths turns bad because he is AI and begins to question his rules same as the machines did to humans its an endless cycle.
We already know I'm the one who beats you."
Then just before he absorbs Neo, he says "everything that has a beginning has an end, Neo". That is an Oracle quote and the ONLY time Smith calls him Neo.
@@Dockktor That makes great sense. I'm going to have to watch these films again. Thanks.
So basically this is a game between the Oracle and The Source
So he’s Monika from DDLC, but on a muuuuuuuch longer timeframe.
@@Littleprinceleon "By the way, how can the creators of Matrix be so unintelligent as to use some of the least efficient sources of heat....
Why heat, in the first place?" Watch the video about Smith being The One by Matrix Explained, where it is stated that the Wachowski's originally wanted humans to be used as processors but the idea proved to be too complicated for viewers. Thus, batteries.
So to conclude, he's not the messiah. He's a very naughty boy.
the moral of the story is: don't trust a ho.

seriously a lady in the first movie freaking said: "He thinks you are the one."
Neo"am I the one"
lady"no"
What lady said that? The Oracle?
Who is "lady"? 🤣
@@wtfisthis2316 Yes. As they are chatting in the first movie, she implies this, which seems to bring a combination of relief and disappointment to Neo. The first line in OP was talking about Morpheus, who has pinned every hope on Neo, much to Neo's dismay. Neo was asking the Oracle, "Yo, wtf is his deal yo?"
It's interesting to interpret what the Oracle's "Sorry, kid" might mean.
@@chesstrollol she never says no, he says “I’m not the one” and she responds “Sorry Kid”....so she never says no, only that he has the gift but is waiting for something.....so please delete your entire second paragraph

Same.
Yep, me too now!
I mean. You should anyway.
I think they are both two halves of "The One"
But that's just a theory.
They both were the one. Like the Yin and Yang, with out each others actions they wouldn't have saved humanity.
Greg Bourquin Yes! This is symbolic of the third eye awakened in the transcendence of duality.
It is consistent to what the Oracle said that Smith is to unbalance the equation, so it is pretty obvious that both Neo and Smith are of the same entity with opposite nature.
Greg Bourquin hey hey that makes a buttload of sense actually.
Greg Bourquin i think neo is the one and that smith is the -one
just like that ying and yang

This is why the first movie is genius, but the TRILOGY is a masterpiece.

what Reloaded had bad CGI?! how old are you? that movie came out in 2003, and the cgi was actually amazing for its time. compare it to other 2003 movies, or read reviews from that time period. nobody complained about the cgi

I was thinking about doing it but idk
+Katie Wahl as +sonicblade200 said everyone can do what Neo does its just that Neo is a lot more attuned to it.
Thanks a lot... now I want to watch the Matrix trilogy again...
+DocWolph maybe just the first one...

I like it
What if...there were raisins in it
Good idea.
Or what if... the cookie contained LSD and the entire trilogy was just a bad drug trip?
Neo shows his potential abilities before meeting the Oracle, when fighting Morpheus after his training.
My real question is how Morpheus gets those glasses to stay on.
They actually clip onto the nose and are very sturdy

Rewatching this. This is still my favorite video of yours. It’s just so interesting to watch the movie series again with this in mind
If you would have watched the directors Dvd commentary you would have found out that Neo is and is not the one and smith is and is not the one. They are both halfs of the yin yang energies and when Smith finally assimilates Neo at the end of the boss fight in the third movie they together become "the one."
Justin Aerni wow that does make more sense. especially given that the directors are explaining what's going on.
That's how I interpreted it.
Yeah, its look good, but ! When Neo jump to Agent Smith, they become to one. So ? How that fits into your theory ?
but back then neo wasn't plugged in to the source
Perhaps the ending of the first movie was both of their 'rebirths'?
Sounds like there's the TWO. Both Smith and Neo.
+ChadWithaJ Or just Two ONE's haha, however you'd like to put it :)
like 3.14?
+AnddoGX HOLY SHIT
+ChadWithaJ You mean 10? (2 in binary)
So that means Smith is an anagram (or whatever it's called) of Two as in the second, no wait... it's not.
The Oracle had told Neo that he was not the chosen one but later that movie Morpheus said "She told you what you need to hear."
Doesnt that add to the theory? The oracle told everyone what they needed to hear for the events to play out like they did hence the 'dangerous game.' Telling humans Neo is the one gives both sides a false flag while Smith unknowingly fulfills the prophecy.
Chris Bosward I'd like to hit like on your comment more than once, nice.
Without Neo Smith would have killed the people and machines , NEO SAVED BOTH
That explains why one of Smith's final lines is "it's not fair". He has sentience, he thought he had won, but he didn't realize Neo was plugged in. Smith knew he was The One in the end and he believed himself powerful enough to beat both Matrix and humanity alike
My theory that the first _true_ One (meaning the first to truly wake himself without being reached out by the others outside The Matrix) was Dan Davis-the runner in The Animatrix short, “World Record.”
He didn’t successfully escape per se, but he _did_ break through the binds of his prison by running so fast and intensely he literally woke himself up and learned the truth by accident, waking up inside his pod, felt his real body and saw reality for the first time.
He eventually did gain back his ability to speak and said, “Free...”
The ending is ambiguous-but I believe he could’ve told someone, even just the nurse about what he saw, which made others starting to doubt about their reality, and wanting to see the true world that Dan saw, because of what he achieved and saw-he set himself free all by himself. No other prisoner of The Matrix had done that.
To the stuff about why the Oracle would lie; "What did she tell you?" "Exactly what i needed to hear". So maybe the reason the Oracle would be lying, isn't to gain personally, but to grant her listeners what they really wanted, to end the war.
so much logic.. you CANNOT argue with this.. holy shit
+aDactylous Actually after reading some of the comments you can. The channels owner even admitted that this video was wrong
+Dongerino Pasterino really :/ gotta do some more reading it seems
aDactylous There isnt one answer to thi movie. There are alot, and none is false. Its how you want to interpret it
Well, I completely agree and support this theory because i am able to actually comprehend what he's talking about and to me it actually makes sense. How do u interpret it?
aDactylous I dont have my own interpretation actually, mostly because i watched this movie years ago. I will watch it again soon
Dang Matt. This was really good it made the sequels way better
Don't give him any credit for this that Siri is from people discussing on The Matrix forums years ago and the Matrix mmo forum as well

the first movie awesome the second alight but the third was drew out that battle way to long
For my theory (sorry for the bad english) : You are seeing this with a binary mind, the oracle said it : Smith and Neo are the 2 sides of the same coin ! It's the Chinese Tao, they needed to be reunited to create balance and then harmony.
You said it!!! ☯️
I believe that Neo and Smith were equal and opposites. I believe that was even stated by a character in the movie, they both shared similar coding. Neo was a catalyst to Smiths actions, and Smith played a catalyst to Neos actions. They both seem to be the one.

+Angel Rodriguez Are you there God? It's me, Margaret.

So how did neo come back to life after being shot?
So what you're saying is that the ONE is TWO?
@@chuckrose3894 As the mighty Nomeansno say, 2+0=1

So...what im understanding is smith was the one but he didnt want to do it? And what we needed was a catalyst to trick him into saving humanity?
Scientist X yes.
He didn't even know what he was, according to this theory. By making everyone- including Smith- think Neo was The One, the Oracle enabled the gambit.
while your first question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also the most irrelevant.

Plot twist:
Everyone
is the one.
…And everyone is Smith.
The "Every ONE" ;)
If everyone is the "one" ... Then who's the zero!?
But smith is the hero in the end?
Not as in like "oh I think he's the hero"
But as in literally, he IS the hero
The Oracle said to Trinity that she will fall in love with the One, and as far as I know she loves Neo, not Smith. Therefore I got my doubts with this theory
She lied to everyone.... Neo was crucial to the Plan, also crucial that everybody would think he is the one, so she told everyone what they needed to hear to think he is the one
And now it is complete. Ty
That all is ignoring that the machines did bargain with Neo to DEFEAT Smith. ;-)
Onto Revolutions:
Neo's choice has changed everything.
It's a deep trilogy if you PAY ATTENTION.
so there were two neos? If Mr anderson is jesus who is Mr Smith? Death?
zSichology I love you!!!!!!
zSichology if Zion is real how is neo a program? And how can he control The machines, you only said all three are connected how are they connected.
Actually a really cogent explanation.
First point neo was not born inside the matrix
The problem is that the prophecy does not say physical birth.
Neo was the only ones that has the ability to change things
And this birth happens at the end of the first movie
After neo is born into the matrix he has the power to change what he wants
