Think you know the Matrix? Weren't even born when the first Matrix movie came out? Either way, you probably know this world-is-a-computer-simulation sci-fi series by its slo-mo bullets, screens full of green text, and a whole lot of Keanu Reeves making his "serious face." What you might NOT know about the Matrix is that the main character, Neo, is not actually the savior of the world and acts is actually just a pawn throughout the entire series meant to throw off you and almost everyone else in the movie. But that begs the question: If Neo isn't the ONE, who IS?

The Oracle said that Smith was a result of the equation trying to balance itself out. If x=x, and you add ONE to one side, then you must add ONE to other, balancing the equation. Both Neo and Smith are ONEs from either side of the equation.

I really like the take of Mark Passio's occult analysis on this. It states, according with the fact that the oracle is yet just another part of the controlsystem (which was stated by the architect), that also her prophecy is part of the control system, just like all believe systems of a messiah saving all humanity is. It is a lie created to keep humanity outside of the matrix in control as well. Neo is not "the one" because there is no such one. Everyone can and must be the one in order to free themselves from the slavery.
But every human being within or outside of the matrix was deceived into thinking that there hast to be a messiah figue on whom they should rely. As a prevention to believe in themselves and take the nessesary actions. That's why Neo - just like Jesus Christ - died for the sins of all humans who did not recognize the power within themselves, the power to destroy the matrix with their minds. And that is also why the Matrix still existed after Neos death. He was - like Jesus - nothing but a role model - the only one who believed in himself and that way empored himself to do the wonders he did. A role model everybody should've followed to earn a life in paradise, but yet nobody did that's why the machines were able to build another even more vicious matrix --> Matrix 4.

@@imltiii not really, the point of the spoon thing was to illustrate that everything there wasn't real. If you could convince your unconcious mind of that fact then it frees you from the mental construct of a physical body in the matrix.
Honestly later parts of Sword Art Online and it's sequel Accel world explain the idea better. It fits into "I think, therefore I am." 's logical extension of "We think therefore the world is."
Essentially the world of the matrix is created by the minds of the people being guided by the programs into following the structure laid out. So it glitches out and releases people from it when they break the limits imposed by themselves and those around them. Animatrix shows it off pretty well with the runner and that annoying teen who shows up in the second movie.
The second Neo convinced his unconcious mind of the fact that nothing in front of him was real he started to see just code and could manipulate it at will. His body just an Avatar.

That sounds like a miracle-worker to me. Liberation into a new world sounds a bit like admittance into the Kingdom of Heaven. It's interesting to interpret what the Oracle's "Sorry, kid" might mean. On one hand, as the audience we are clearly being tinkered with by the directors, because fundamentally we want to believe that Neo is the one, and here is this supposed all-knowing entity implying he isn't. On the other hand, I feel like it's hinted that the Oracle knows Neo has to find his One-ness for himself, and that he cannot fulfill the prophecy without finding out for himself that he is that one. After all, what is she supposed to do? Tell him "Yes, you are the one!", and let him go off and get himself killed?
That's all purely in the context of the first movie, but I guess also if you think about it from the perspective of the others, there were six Ones anyway, so maybe she was just having a laugh because, "No dude, you definitely are not the ONE, you are the sixth ONE to come along as a matter of fact".

Smith was able to think for himself, hence the ability to function and strategise without the ear-piece in.
His ability to replicate himself is simply his ability, as an agent, to enter any other sentient being or program still connected to the Matrix. Neo just freed him from the agents' restriction to only enter one sentient being or program at a time. This finally gave him the power needed to bring the whole system to a standstill, so he didn't have to watch us squander a world created just for us, for the seventh time over.
It would be like an NPC having to watch someone else take 100 years to finish a video game, only to have them restart every time they do finish. After watching this for 600 years, you would want to destroy the console too, even if you only lived in the game.

I think its clear that the one is actually the two, a duality caused by Smith having the one’s code copied into his own. The oracle i think even said that one cannot exist without the other. The matrix could not reset until all pieces of the one’s code return to the source, which Neo figured out at the end. Neo rejected the duties of the one, but smith, running on the the one’s code fulfilled the eventuality of an unchecked anomaly running amok in the matrix.

That’s what I kept telling everyone when the movies were first out. That Morpheus, trinity, switch, all those people could do incredible things like Neo could, I mean who TAUGHT neo how to jump across those buildings, that whole “free your mind” concept wasn’t limited to just neo, I think that if you convince yourself you can’t do something (ie: only neo can do this) such as fly, etc then you won’t be able to do it because you’re restricting your code yourself. Neo was hyped up and was told he was the savior and only he could do all these crazy things and he used his mind to create the circumstances in the matrix that he wanted. However if any of those others tried and believed they could break these limits, they’d be able to. Also I found it weird how they never used those ships to fight the machines at the end of the 3rd movie, what caused the council to send the ships away?

Sorry Matt, but I disagree with you in everything this time. it's the first time actually....
    1) Born in Matrix means he wasn't born "100% human" in Zion, not that he was born into the actual Operative System as a program. This is forcing things a little too much on your theory.
    2) Smith never said things that imply that he was there in the First Matrix, he is a Machine: he is connected to everything, he knows everything that the Machine Collective knows, but he NEVER said anything that proves he was there.
    3) It is true that Smith COULD (No proof of that being true) have lived in the first Matrix while Neo could not since he is just a human born into the latest Matrix, but We'll get to that later on.
    4) Neo changed A LOT OF THINGS: He curved a metal spoon, he thereafter curved the rope of an elevator, he curved the surface of an ENTIRE SKYSCRAPER, he was able to VIRTUALLY RESURRECT Trinity, he shows massive superpowers (they also alter reality) and by the end of the Matrix Trilogy he has clearly the potential to change everything. HE EVEN SAW as a blind person the MACHINE FLOW (Matrix rap) and KILLED ROBOTS JUST BY WAVING HANDS.
Smith did change a lot of things, but you forgive the most important thing: HE IS A MACHINE, it's pretty obvious he could as a regular machine, and that now as a Rogue program and a Virus he is even more powerfull.
There is nothing amazing in that, what is amazing is that a HUMAN can do these things.
It's like the Merovingian. Plus it's implied that the One shoudl change Matrix in favour of Humanity, not AGAINST it.
The One is a Messiah, it is not a dictatorial hive-mind of viruses, this is the greatest hole in your theory.
    5) The "Rebel machine" part was flawed as hell.
There are TONS of machines that got rogue, the entire MEROVINGIAN empire is based on this concept. Machines do get errors, bugs, they get old, they ged obsolete, they eventually must be terminated, or they acquire some degree of consciousness, they eventually find their way to "delete" the connection to the Collective Consciousness of the Machines and become rogue programs, bugs, ghosts. Smith is nothing special, he is not even the first one.
I mean, the Merovingia is the actual MESSIAH of these programs, he was the one who ruled the underowlrd of free programs that REBELLED against the Machines. By applying your logic, he is the real Messiah, the real One (and it is theorized he was, in the previous Matrix).
    6) You talk a lot about how Smith is human when he talks, he is human because he rebels (Quite a surprise that's not rare in the machine world...), but you forgot how he HATES the entire human race, says SO MANY TIMES he hates it, he considers it as a Virus that should go extinct and in fact it is quite ironic he became a Virus itself, this is how he viewed humans and this is how Neo modified him by connecting to him). and how he, by overwriting himself on EVERYTHING, almost caused the Crash for both Machines and Humans that would lead to the end of both civilization. NOT a Messiah, not Human, just a rogue program thinking about itself.
Neo, on the other hand, is the savious of humanity, who rebelled agaist the machines FOR HUMANITY, and SAVED HUMANITY, by SACRIFICING HIMSELF. This is BY DEFINITION the One (The One, in the Prophecy, is the One who fights FOR Humanity, but I'll prove this point better later on)
    7) Come on Matt: Smith wanted to DESTROY the Matrix, and By destroy I mean Hiroshima and Nagasaki, not a punch in the face. What HE wanted was to destroy it, period, extinction.
What Neo actually did was to make it RELOAD, which is totally different from the original intention of Smith.
This is why he screamed when he KNEW that it was all Neo's plan, he made himself absord into Smith, which was ONE with the Matrix, which merged Neo with the Matrix and the Source, using his code to make the Reload.
And Smith? He SCREAMED in terror when he realized that.
This basically debunks your theory that he was the aweited messiah (for the "unwilling messiah", see below)
    8) Your entire theory is flawed because it reasons like this "Ok Jesus is not the Messiah, JUDAS IS, because without his act Jesus would not be crucified", but you actually make him sound like the hero and the ACTUAL saviour, while he actually made all of that because of his own Ego, and hw was not the saviour of Humanity (This is a un-biased discussion, I'm not here to talk about religion, it's just an example, if you don't believe in it nothing changes).
    9) You showed that you didn't quite understand the ending, this explains how you got this theory wrong.
First of all, YOU KNOW that she never said "you are no the one" and that she let him believe that because "This is what you had to hear" as Morpheous told him.
The Oracle does not tell the truth, she tells WHAT WE NEED TO HEAR to perform certain action, she is a Psychological and Statistical program that knows how human minds work and how the laws of cause and effect apply to masses of people.
The "Dangerous game" was her supporting the Humans (Morhpeus stated "She's been on our side since the Beginning"), Supporting the One and by the end LYING to Smith, not to Neo, because when Smith absorbed her he believed that it would make him invincible, knowing the past and the future.
What he DIDN'T know was that by Winning that battle he would Loose everything.
    10) This is the final argument against your theory.
It is stated quite clearly that the ONE is the one with the Code inside himself.
And that is Neo, this was claimed so many times you can't doubt it without basically doubt the entire trilogy.
So this is the first reason why NEO is the ONE, and Smith is NOT.
Neo has the Code, Neo MUST enter the Source, the Architect can't be wrong about this and it is not, since this is EXACTLY that happens in the end.
Neo MUSt enter the Source, which is inside Matrix, the Operative System.
But Matrix is ONE with the Smith Virus collective, which is going to crash the system if not stopped.
Neo Must (as a good Messiah) SACRIFICE himself, by being DEFEATED and ABSORBED by Smith.
And by being absorbed by Smith, he becomes One with the Matrix, one with the Source, the Code goes into the Source, and Smith dies.
Why is that? Because every program has a Raison d'Etre. Every program has an objective, an end, a mission, a quest.
Such quest is his reason to live, his reason to fight, his prime directive.
When the quest is completed, the program becomes useless and gets deleted.
Smith's quest was to defeat Neo, defeat ERRORS, defeat THE ONE BUG THAT BINDS THEM ALL.
Neo is the Ultimate enemy for a program that hunts BUGS.
And Smith, by "merging" with Neo at the end of the First Movie, became a rogue Virus.
Because he FAILED his mission. But by merging with Neo he FELT (He was not FORCED) compelled to rebel, because he was now partly human. He became a Rogue program (LIKE TONS OF OTHERS) but much stronger, a Virus.
he started to infect everything, but his PRIME DIRECTIVE was always the same: Destroy Neo. He was obsessed with it.
He even absorbed the Oracle, and was now capable to Foresee the entire future, and his Final Winning against Neo.
Neo on the other hand is the Human capable of Changing reality and has the Code inside him as DEFINITIVELY stated by the Architect and the Oracle.
    He represents Humanity.
He goes into the Machine City, they tell him that the "Plan" is going into dust, because the entire Matrix is under Smith control.
If Smith destroyed the Matrix as he PLANS and IS GOING TO, both Humans and Machines will die out as Matrix is the main source of energy for machines and...new humans for humans.
So Neo must ENTER THE MATRIX while connected to "Deus Ex Machina", the main AI.
He must FIGHT the now God-level Admin of Matrix, Smith, who KNOWS he will defeat Neo.
And HE DOES, he DEFEATS Neo, he INFECTS HIM and Absorb him.
But then Deus puts the input (LOL) in, he makes the Code of NEO go inside the Source.
Now Smiwht has achieved his goal.
He has defeated Neo, the Final error. Not only that, he has virtually defeated EVERY SINGLE ERROR since the Matrix is going to be reloaded. He has completed the task, like a genie that has realized the final wish must go inside the lamp, Smith has completed his PORPOUSE (He repeats that word all along), and destroys himself.
    And The Matrix gets reloaded.
Now Humans and Machines are at Peace, Humans will be free to leave the Matrix if they want, but Humans can't destabilize the Matrix too much.
And now THE FINAL QUESTION: WHY didn't Smith know he was going to die?
If he has all of those Oracle power, how couldn't he miss that?
BECAUSE the Oracle didn't know herself. Because that was not a prediction, it was Faith.
She said that to Seraph (an Angel name) "Did you always know?
    "Oh no, but I believed"
She BELIEVED, a quite Human act, she HOPED the plan worked, she HOPER Neo, the MESSIAH, could save Humanity, that everything went well, that Humans and Machines both (Deus and Neo) did their job and defeated Smith.
This is the final argument, the Matrix trilogy also had faith in the various themes. Isn't Matrix in fact a tale about an Illusory world that deludes us, an Oracle predicting salvation and Humans having FAITH that a Messiah (which is Human but is also a Machine, the SON of Machines) must take vevery single error in himself and SACRIFICE in a death battle against Evil, in which the Messiah is sacrificed but the Evil itself is defeated by winning in killing the Messiah.
    So yeah.
-Smith does not have the Code, was not into the First Matrix, was no the ONE according to anyone.
-Neo has the Code, has the power to change reality, sacrificed himself, realized the profecy, is the perfect Messiah, he is the ONE according to EVERY-ONE.
-Smith was evil all along, had no intenction of saving humanity and was defeated for rational reasons.
-For all the previous arguments we have to logically conclude that NEO was THE ONE as even implied by the name, while Smith was evil all along, and this Theory was Falsified.
PS: You almost got me into the "mama" part, but consider that the Architect claimed "You can consider me the Father (of the Matrix) while the Mother is the Oracle".
So she was his mother, and the mother of every single program.
    Again Matt: Nothing special, sorry.
I hope you read this comment, or someone does at least.
I also will add a more complete explanation of How the Matrix, the Prophecy, the One, the Ending and Neo work.
    1) We must first understand WHAT IS THE MATRIX?
The Matrix is a simulation created to put humans in a virtual world while machines use them as batteries, basically.
The Matrix is an Informatic System, so it has Bugs and it may crash.
It is an Equation, everything is numbers and constants, it must be balanced.
In this case, the Matrix MUST be accepted by the humans. When humans do not accept it, bugs fill the Matrix and eventually lead to crash.
The First Matrix was constructed by the Architect as a Heaven, but Humans could not accept this reality and 100% REFUSED this reality, leading to crash and Reloading.
So the Architect made the Second Matrix with a Law of Cause and Effect, quite less perfect, but Humans yet again refused this reality, 100% refusal, crash. They could not accept this deterministic system.
The Third Matrix was constructed on the basis of Human History, yet again people REFUSED IT.
So a program developed to Understand Psychology and Statistics, the Oracle, proposed a new way: to leave a CHOICE (this is REALLY IMPORTANT), even if unconscious.
this lead to 99% of acceptance, the Matrix would last a lot longer.
But everytime someone refused Matrix he would be thrown out (And they would eventually form Zion), and EVERY SINGLE TIME this happened the Matrix got bugs, that would eventually accumulate and lead to crash. The problem was just shifted, not solved.
That is why the Architect and the Oracle invented a way to solve this problem, the One.
    Quote to prove:
"The Path of the One was vital because 1% of the population rejects the Matrix. The programming of the Matrix is not designed to handle even a single rejection. The only way for it to operate at peak efficiency is when there is 100% acceptance of the programming. The Architect's attempts resulted in 100% rejection. Yet even though the Oracle's version of the Matrix yielded nearly 99% acceptance, there was still a degree of rejection that had to be dealt with."
"Each rejection (referred to as an anomaly by the Architect) is in the form of code within the Matrix that acts somewhat like a "Bug". Over time, the number of rejections begins to build up and threatens the entire system. When this happens, the Architect states that it has become a systemic anomaly. This systemic anomaly must be taken care of or else the Matrix will eventually crash-killing everyone who is hardwired to the Matrix."
"The solution is to take the systemic anomaly, attach it to the One and have the One bring it to the Source where it can be destroyed. This gathering of the systemic anomaly and attaching to the One is referred to as the integral anomaly. This is the code that the One carries which must be disseminated at the Source. The One stands in proxy for all those who have rejected the Matrix.
By entering the Architect's chamber and choosing to return to the Source, the One has essentially accepted the Matrix and has negated all the rejections attached to him. This brings the Matrix to 100% acceptance. However, this is only temporary, as it is only a matter of time before someone rejects it. Therefore, the Architect must quickly reload the Matrix while it is still at 100% acceptance."
    2) WHAT IS THE ONE?
The One is a random human who is chossen to bring two things: he brings the PRIME PROGRAM and he is also burdening on himself all of the errors that humans caused when they chose freedom.
That is, The One is THE CHOICE, he is the representation of Human Freedom, He is the one Bug to bind them all, he is what makes the Equation Unbalanced.
"Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the Matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision." (Architect)
    3) What is the PRIME PROGRAM? I'll quote the official wiki here:
"The Prime Program is the title which The Architect gave to the Path of The One. In reference to computer programming, a prime program is a subprogram within a larger program (referred to as a proper program). In this case, the Matrix is the proper program, while the Path of the One is a subprogram within the Matrix."
"A prime program is a subroutine that has a single entry point and a single exit point, with any number of decision nodes along the way. This subprogram was created in order to guide the One to the Source, which is the exit point for the Path of the One. This was confirmed by The Oracle, who stated that the Path of the One ends at the Source. Because reaching the Source is the exit point for the prime program, the One must reinsert it into the programming of the Matrix in order to start the cycle over again."
The Prime Program is a program, and it is composed of a Journey the One must do, a Journey that starts at his birth and ends at THE SOURCE.
The Source is where every program that ended (or failed) his porpuouse, every program which is too old or bugged, every program that must be deleted, should go.
And this is where every program came from, it's the Singularity of Robots.
The prime Program is also directly connected to the Source, giving the One great powers, even stronger than agents.
So the ONE has the Prime Program and must get into the Source.
The One brings with himself all of the errors and bugs to the Source, and when he reaches the Source the Prime program activates, leading to the RELOADING of the Matrix, a reloading which will (Temporary) fix every bug.
The One will also choose a group of humans that will create Zion again (since the old Zion will be terminated).
"After he died, the Oracle prophesied his return and that his coming would hail the destruction of the Matrix, end the war; bring freedom to our people."
So the One brings every "Sin" (Bug) In Himself, is connected to the Source, has God-like powers and will eventually go into the Source to save Humanity (because if Zion was destroyed and Matrix crashed no human would survive), he is quite the Messiah.
But he will not only have the powers of a Messiah, he will LOOK like one and will be KNOWN like one.
    I'll quote again:
"The Path of the One is a necessary subprogram to ensure that the One will act according to the Architect's wishes. It is one of the control measures created with the help of the Oracle, who understands the human psyche. The Path of the One is designed to create within the One a messiah complex. The One is granted special powers by virtue of his connection to the Source in order to make his role as a messiah believable."
"Each decision node along the Path of the One is designed to create a sense of attachment between the One and humanity. Believing himself to be the savior of mankind, the One will take the necessary steps to ensure that humanity continues, albeit in an enslaved state."
So the Oracle makes a Prophecy to humans, that they will find The One and he will save them. When The One is found the Oracle leads him to assume the role of a Messiah, and his powers strenghten this belief. The Path of the One MUST end to the Source, every single Oracle prediction and suggestion will lead him there.
So This is basically the One: has the Prime Program, is directly connected to the Source (which grants him powers) and is also connected to every single bug in the system, he is predicted by the Oracle (who creates a sorta religion around this figure in humans) and will eventually assume the role of a Messiah, which will lead him to the Source, where the Prime Program will activate the Reloading of Matrix.
This WAS the Plan for Five Matrixes. But Neo was different.
    4) WHAT DID NEO DO?
"This process was subverted in the case of Neo, whose attachment to Trinity was stronger than his attachment to humanity. This love for Trinity was strong enough that he was willing to sacrifice humanity in order that he might save her."
All of the previous Ones were attached to Humanity, but this One was also attached to a particular femminine Human, Trinity (Quite the religious reference here), which was on the balance of his CHOICE.
So he refuses to enter the Source, but HIS DESTINY (as stated by the Oracle) is still to get into it, he will END HIS PATH THERE, one way or the other.
"Neo breaks the cycle of destruction because of his love for Trinity, who he saves from certain death as she falls from a building after ensuring that Neo's initial mission to reach the Source would succeed. After Neo is rescued from Mobil Avenue station, he meets once more with the Oracle, who states Neo must still reach the Source - not the Architect, but the Machine City itself, where "the path of The One ends." "
Enough with Neo now, we'll talk about Agent Smith
    5) WHAT ABOUT AGENT SMITH? HUH?!!?!?!?
Agent Smith is a Program created to control bugs and errors in the System, that is his Prime Directive: Hunt them down.
That's why he hates humans so much (THEY ARE unpredictable, they are not computable, they are irrational, animal, they cause him PROBLEMS), that's why he hates NEO so much (He BINDS every single Bug in himself). He was never in the First Matrix (He just knows about it).
Agent Smith fought against Neo, but was defeated. When Neo trapassed him, a "Part" of his personality AND his powers were transferred to him.
Agent Smith had FAILED his porpouse. This would lead him to deletion, and going back to the Source. He didn't however. Why?
It's nothing strange, many programs escape deletion (Sometimes they are bugged, sometimes they develop indipendence and free consciousness). It happened a lot of times, they usually request the Merovingian help, and they become Ghosts, monsters or just "errors" in the System.
Agent Smith becomes a Rogue program, a Virus.
He starts to absorb humans and machines alike to become stronger and stronger. But his prime directive, his PORPOUSE is still to defeat Neo, he is obsessed by it (He also wants all life to end).
He ends up absorbing even the Oracle.
Now, what did the Oracle predict with her Really Good Math?
That Smith was now stronger than Neo, and Neo would loose.
And Smith now knows this, AND LAUGHS.
Eventually Smith gets in control of the Entire Matrix, bringing it near a dangerous Crash.
Machines and Humans alike are in danger, because that would mean exctintion.
Neo offers DEUS EX MACHINA (No, not the Mirai Nikki one) a truce with humans, if he will defeat Smith.
Now, The Oracle PREDICTED Neo would loose, Smith predicted Neo would loose, EVERYONE KNOWS NEO WILL LOOSE, even Neo knows that much.
But Neo still fights for it. Why Mr Anderson? WHY?
Is he stupid? Is he just being emotional?
    No, that's not it.
The Matrix is an equation, and it is gravely unbalanced.
Smith is -1, Neo is 1. Yin and Yang.
Smith keeps fighting, until he says something, an influence from the Oracle "Everything that has a beginning must end, Neo".
It's the first time he doesn't call him Mr Anderson.
Smith is now AFRAID, he didn't predict that.
He absorbs (as Predicted) Neo in himself.
NOW THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT, STICK WITH ME GUYS
    6) WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?
Now Smith was Deleted because of the Reloading (I'll explain this now), but there are also other reasons why Smith was deleted.
THIS IS MERE SPECULATION (But my point stands even without them, it's just curiosity), i'll put them in parenthesis.
(First of all By absorbind Neo he basically resolved his porpouse, his Prime Directive, and he completed his task. Like other programs, this leads him to destruction.
But he also, by Absorbing the One, VIRTUALLY defeated every single bug in the system. Also, by absorbing the One, he has REALLY defeated every single error in Matrix.
Not only that, his porpouse was to finally kill Mr Anderson, but as we said before A PART of Mr Anderson is in himself, so he has to kill himself to complete his task of totally defeating Neo.
So He became a living contraddiction. And as someone puts it, Neo as the 1 and Smith the 1 ON THE OTHER SIDE, they both grew in power as the other did, all becaus the Architect wanted the Equation to be balanced, but the Oracle wanted it to be UNBALANCED, the 1 of Neo becomes a Minus 1 by "merging" with Smith (Going in his side) and nullifying the equation. Again, it is speculah ).
    What Happened?
Smith, now that he was a Level-God admin of Matrix, was ONE with the Matrix, was in total control.
The Smith-Matrix hivemind was like a Body.
The Source is the Heart, at the center of the Body.
Neo MUST reach the Heart, Neo is a poison.
Neo, by WILLINGLY letting himself " be Drinked" by Smith reached the Core.
And Neo is also connected to Deus Ex Machina, the two of them (Human and Machine) TOGETHER activate the program.
neo gets into the Source, and Deus activates the Program (remember guys, he was excluded from the Control because of Smith).
"After Neo is jacked into the Matrix, the Deus monitors the situation. It appears that, after Neo willingly allows himself to be assimilated by Smith, two objectives occur that allow Smith's deletion. First, Smith is now directly connected to a hard-line connected entity: Neo's avatar. Second, in assimilating Neo, Smith has completed the purpose he redefined for himself.
Moments after Neo is assimilated, the Deus appears to send a massive surge of energy through Neo's body, presumably a deletion program"
The Reloading was activated, because Neo's code reached the Source.
The Reloading fixed every single bug, error and virus, and Smith was deleted forever and ever (And there are also those other reasons why he was deleted).
Neo, while dying by Smith hands AND being "Activated" in the Source by Deus Ex Machina, assumes a Jesus on cross-like position, his Messianic role was finally achieved. HE has activated, by SELF-SACRIFICE, the Salvation program, and the Evil (Smith), by Killing the Messiah, has unknowingly KILLED HIMSELF.
The Matrix gets reloaded, but now it's different.
    Why? It's because of Neo!
"Neo, unlike the previous Ones before him, did not complete the Path of the One. Instead of going through the door on his right in the Architect's chamber, he left the Path of the One and went through the door to his left. This means that he left the Path of the One and began to follow the Path of Neo. Ironically, his own path still led him to becoming connected to the Source where he followed the original directive of the Path of the One.
Neo's unique contribution to the problem of choice was to make a deal with the Deus Ex Machina that the programming of the Matrix would now accept rejections. Those who desired to be free would be allowed to leave. This meant that when someone rejected the Matrix, it was no longer an anomaly. Therefore, with no anomalies threatening the programming of the Matrix, it was no longer necessary to have a One, which meant that the Path of the One was also no longer necessary. That is why the prime program was not reinserted. Because of the compromise made between man and machine, a state of peace was created."
THANKS TO NEO now the Matrix will ACCEPT that people will have a choice, it will no longer be an unpredictable error in the Equation.
There will be no more bugs, no more One necessary, Zion is saved, no more War between Machines and Humans.
    ALL BECAUSE of Neo's Sacrifice.
The Machines honour their alliance to Neo, his body is recovered and "Brought to the Light".
Final question: WHY DIDN'T SMITH KNOW?
because the Oracle herself didn't know: she ENTRUSTED Neo, she BELIEVED in Him, she was not sure, she had FAITH.
Quite a Human act for an AI programmed to Understand Humans.
She is an Oracle, she does not "predict" the future, she MAKES the future by making self fulfinning prophecies.
You know like "be careful for your son will be killed" and so the father guards the son so much that his actions will eventually LEAD to the death of the Son?
A self fulfinning prophecy, everything the Oracle said WAS on the Porpouse of letting Neo find the courage, understand his powers, understand his role, and EVENTUALLY leading to the final truce.
    Remember what the Architect said?
"I'm the Father of Matrix (and all of his programs), she is the mother".
And what did the oracle say?
"The Architect sees everything as an equation to be balanced.
    I must dis-balance it"
She Oracle plotted all along for this truce with humans, she SAW BEYOND the Equation, she saw something, but she just could have faith, it could not be expressed in Math.
    it was...Human, that's it.
She saw the Truce with humans, and she had faith.
This is why the Architect tells her "You've played a dangerous game", she RISKED and GAMBLED, but she succeded.
And that's why Seraph told her "DId you always know?"
"Oh no, but I believed in it".
So Smith DID NOT have the Code, DID NOT ACTIVATE the actual reloading, he did NOTHING, both willing or unwilling.
If Smith is the Messiah because he unwillingly helped the ACTUAL messiah to reach the Source and activate the program, then Judas is the actual messiah because he killed Jesus, Hitler is the actual granter of peace and freedom because after him UN was founded, George III of Hannover is the hero of American Indipendence, and a Bank robber who unwillingly left the door open for policemen to catch him is a true hero.
Neo was the One, Neo was the Hero, Neo was the Self Sacrificing Messiah, Willing and, this time, True.
And The Oracle won her Poker Game against the Architect.

Okay. You make a fine point but I have one question. The Oracle never says he's not the one, but she never really says he is either. She just says "you got the gift." So maybe neo and smith both were supposed to play a part in it?

gteroer5 The Oracle made clear implication (as the Architect and so many other characters) that Neo is the One, but you are right (and Matt is half right) when you say that Smith had a part in this.
Smith is like Voldemort to Harry in his relationship with Neo, he is "connected" with him, when Neo went inside him part of his humanity, part of his power, part of his code went inside him.
They are two faces of the same bottlecap I guess, but Neo is still the One for those 9 reasons, the One is the One (LOL again) with the Code, the One who saves Matrix, the One who sacrifices.
So you are right, they both had to play a part in this, As I said before the Oracle was a Psychological Program build to learn how humans think and behave.
Neo and Smith, in theyr complex relation and in their psychological themes, fitted perfectly in this "Salvation Plan".
This is the "game" she played alla along.
      It kinda worked.

In the first movie, the Oracle implies that Neo isn't the One, but afterwards, she implies he is. Well, in the end of the first movie, Neo enters Smith. Whatever he did, it changed Smith. What would prevent Smith from changing Neo too? The way I see it, he "becomes the One" at that moment, alongside Smith. They merge. They're both necessary, they're both really just... One.

The Oracle never tells Neo that he's not the one. She leaves a gap in her sentence and Neo fills it in for her, all the while believing he's finally come to the truth.
In fact, the Oracle even tells him afterwards: "You've got the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something" implying that he's actually the one, but can't accept it.

I believe that Neo was not the one until the end he died in the first movie. I think that by saying "no" to death is what creates the anomaly because you are refusing to accept the programming that says you died. It meets your first two criteria in that he is "born" in the Matrix and can change it as he sees fit . Even after doing what he did to Smith he can say "no" to bullets, say "no" to gravity (fly), say "no" to getting his hand cut off in the mansion scene of the second movie, even say "no" just collision physics by putting his hand inside Trinity to pull out the bullet. But above all say "no" to the Matrix itself which is why he sees it in code. That's how that Matrix really looks, and Neo refuses to accept what the Matrix wants you to THINK it looks like.
Then the "destroying" part is still CAUSED by Neo but manifests in Smith. When he "destroys" Smith, he glitches him by imprinting onto Smith the ability to say "no" to the Matrix (AKA the prime program) thus giving Smith the power to eventually glitch/crash the Matrix the same as Neo. But this would not happen if Neo did not "destroy" him first. So maybe previous "ones" destroyed the Matrix more often, but the only time Neo did it was when he "destroyed" Smith. So by destroying things in the Matrix it glitches them, which is why they need to restart. Smith was simply something destroyed by the one and he needed to be "restarted", along with the rest of the Matrix, to start a new cycle. But the Matrix could not "restart" unless it had the prime program AND all the glitched programs. Proof is in the cat...
So if you notice when the Matrix "changes" or rather "restarts" the cat is seen doing the same thing twice. The cat is "restarted" because it accepted the restart (whether or not it was glitched is irrelevant). When Neo "destroys" Smith, Smith now has to be restarted (like the cat), but the prime program allows him to REFUSE the restart. Smith refusing to restart is like the cat refusing to restart. But since the cat is REQUIRED for the restart to work, the Matrix can not restart until the cat AGREES to be restarted. Smith never explicitly says that going to the source would kill him, he just says that's what he was "supposed to do", but he "didn't". So the whole restart is held up by Smith (meaning it could not restart even if Neo chose to go to the source at the end of the second movie), which is simply a manifestation of the glitches Neo creates when he destroys things. Then at the end of the third movie, Smith "returns" to the source through Neo (meaning he "accepts" to restart [even if he consciously does not know he accepts it...sound familiar?]), which then allows the Matrix to restart to a time BEFORE Smith (when there was only 1 Smith). Again proof is in the cat.
Granted there are still rogue programs like Smith, but the major difference is that none of those programs were glitched. Because they are not glitched they don't "destroy" the Matrix around them and therefore are not required for a restart.

    • @theSUICIDEfox
      @theSUICIDEfox 8 лет назад +7

+thesuicidefox Just to add, if Neo were to "destroy" the cat, likely the cat would accept the restart. Smith wants to destroy the Matrix and all life, so unlike the cat he has reason to refuse a restart. I think that part of your theory is in actuality just a total coincidence in the movie. It could be reasoned that BECAUSE Smith wanted this so bad he put himself in a position to eventually find a way to achieve his goals, and once he had to power to do what he wanted he finally said "no". Again, Neo GIVES Smith the power of the one, and Smith BY CHANCE already wanted a way to destroy everything. But had it not been for Neo, Smith would never have had such power and at that point your whole theory falls apart.

    • @AmityvilleFan
      @AmityvilleFan 8 лет назад +2

+thesuicidefox UNLESS Neo was BUILT TO SAY no to balance out the anomaly which is Smith!
Neo never defies the Matrix, only follows what others expect from him wether it is the Rebels or the Orcale, or anyone else.
Also consider this: when Neo in the end enters the Matrix it is already "Smith-only". But the prophecy still demands Neo being assimilated. Did you ever gave a thought WHY? Or WHY Neo can see "real world" as codes? Or where the program-parents in Reloaded came from as they are NOT originated from the Matrix, neither the "real world"?
PS: The Architect's problem isn't "glitchy" programs. His problem is rogue programs. The whole cycle exists to keep rogue-programs at bay which problem manifests in Agent Smith.
OR here is my theory: there are no people in The Matrix, and the "Real World" is just a part of The Matrix where fatally rogue programs are quarantined. OR they are still just properly working parts of The Matrix, which sole purpose is to keep an artificial intelligence at bay, and that AI is Mr. Smith.

    • @theSUICIDEfox
      @theSUICIDEfox 8 лет назад +6

***** The parents came from the machine world, they say that in the third movie. Meaning they are likely physical machines (the little bug ones) that fell in love and "gave birth" to a new AI which they had to hide in the Matrix.
Rogue programs have survived the reboot as the Merovingian says in the second movie, which means that a rogue program's compliance is not necessary to reboot the Matrix, nor do they get rebooted during that time (although it could be they cocoon themselves somewhere to stay safe during the reboot).
Neo wasn't built to say "no" because the machines cannot just create a human like they can a program. Anyone, in fact, can become the one merely by saying "no" to death, which is what Neo does only because just before dying in the real world he felt Trinity's kiss. IDK if you've ever had a lucid dream, but in a lucid dream the moment you realize it's a dream you can do anything you want. Same sort of principle applies. Neo feels the kiss, realizes something about the nature of the Matrix (notably that it's not real and thus he is not really dead), says "no" to death, and then is able to do what he wants because the Matrix can't force you to accept it, you have to CHOOSE to accept it. Neo at that point chooses to not accept the Matrix, which then allows him to break the code and do with it what he wants.
Lastly, Neo doesn't follow anyone. He follows his choices, even if he doesn't know he already made the choice or why he made it. The Oracle tells him both of these things and tells him he "already made the choice" and "now you have to understand it". He can see the future because he is seeing what is basically the end of a computation of numbers. Like if you know the exact speed and trajectory of a cue ball hitting the rack you can predict where everything will go, Neo sees where all the balls will go before hitting the cue ball. He already made the choice of how and when to hit the ball, he just doesn't know why he does it. He just can't see past the point where Trin dies because he doesn't understand the choice he makes at that point, so he doesn't know what the next calculation will be.

Only Smith & Neo combined are The One. Once assimilated The One destroys The Matrix.
The Oracle say's "He is you, your opposite, your negative, the result of the equation trying to balance it's self out.
The Architect say's "If I am the father of The Matrix she would undoubtedly be its mother." Neo is the bastard son of the Architect maintaining order over Zion and the 6th Anomaly to make it to him. (I say bastard because the humans in Zion are literally tossed out of their Pods as waste because they're now unwanted.) The Oracle also refers to Smith as a bastard. The game is the Oracles control over The Matrix & The Architects control of the Machine City & Zion. With both Neo & Smith gone the balance of power has been restored.

Smith is not the One; he is the physical manifestation of the oncoming complete and total failure of the Matrix. The system *is* crashing, he is the result.
The system is crashing because The One has not returned to the Source. The One *must* return or the entire program will fail.
The One has *not* returned because this version of the One, different then all 5 before him, feels love for humanity on a DIRECT AND PERSONAL level. Neo is no great humanitarian. He loves one person only. All previous Ones made the choice to reboot the Matrix. Neo did not.
Neo did not do this because The Oracle manipulated him and the people around him. She is the reason Neo feels personal love.
*This* is the dangerous game she played: she, through the things she told Morpheous, Trinity, and Neo, created the circumstances wherein The One fell in love and refused to reboot. She did not want the system to repeat as it had 5 times before. She wanted humans to be freed.
    She won.

The comments saying that Neo and Smith are both The One to balance each other like two halves of an equation is really convincing (or actually cannon). If Neo was similar to a reincarnation of The One that was born in the first version of the matrix, and Smith was reborn as a rogue program then they're already quite similar, at least in terms of birth and rebirth.

+Arkansause Peninsuli-Mapledoryme Well that's difficult to judge because the movies were accomplishing very different tasks with their VFX work. Lord of the Rings was creating creatures, environments, armies etc. The Matrix on the other hand did a lot of work trying to replicate real living people which is a far more difficult task. We know how other people move and how their faces look so anything off sticks out. But how an Orc or Olyphaunt moves is completely made up. Both movies have incredible CGI, but both of them have also been surpassed by what we can do today.

+Bre Fujimoto The Agent-Smith fight was mocked even back when Reloaded first came out. I remember people laughing at that sequence when I watched the film in the theater. At the very least, it was overambitious in its execution. CG just wasn't ready to render people/faces in close ups or even medium shots at the time. Heck, even the digital Arnold from Terminator Genisys suffers from the "uncanny valley" effect.

I agree with you, but you miss something: both of them are "the one", they are two faces of the same coin, the ying and yang of the Profecy and Matrix universe. Without Neo, Smith wouldnt be free, and viceversa.
But the awesome of the movie is that the real gods and main characters behind everything that we have seen, are The Arquitect and the Oracle; even Trinity's love for Neo was pre-determined by the Oracle, wich finally leaves to Neo saving her instead of Sion, leaving to the events that we all now, even in the final battle between Neo and Smith the Oracle is capable of speaking throw Smith directly to Neo, quot "everything that has a beggining has an end", making Neo stop fighting Smith to be converted by him and to self destroy when he reunite with the Source (the arquitect).
    Forgive my bad English.

I would say it was all a simulation. Even Zion wasn't the reallity they said they try to keep the people connected to the matrix. So maybe it all is a version of the Matrix where Neo can chose to not save Zion and Smith was made to give Neo the opportunity to end the war so peace exist. And the new version of the Matrix inside the Matrix was uploaded. As the kid said the spoon is not real.

My questions are still: how does Neo have those powers still? Power of suggestion was so strong he learned to free his mind more than anyone else? Also, how does he use powers outside the Matrix? (I still like the theory that even Zion was in another Matrix)

    • @sonicblade200
      @sonicblade200 8 лет назад +170

Remember the kids that were with the oracle, they have the power to bend the matrix to their will as well. They explained Neo the logic behind doing. They pretty much suggested that anyone could do what they were doing they if their minds could fully understand what was really happening. "Do not try to bend the spoon, that's impossible. You must first realize that there is no spoon." The real difficulty of it is probably just convince your mind that the matrix isn't real when all senses perceive it as real, like when people get scared when watching a scary movie. The oracle was mostly gambling on Neo figuring it out.

+Katie Wahl The explanation that I heard a long time ago for his powers working outside the Matrix was that there was always a sort of secondary program built in, that was essentially a person chosen at random who could operate both in and outside of the Matrix while still connected to the system. I don't remember 100% of the explanation but it seemed pretty convincing.

+Katie Wahl The only reasonable explanation I can think of or have heard for why Neo has his powers outside the Matrix is that the so called real world is actually just another layer of the Matrix. The idea I heard was that The Real World is actually a simulation being run by AI programmers to test Artificial General Intelligence they're developing to make sure they don't want to destroy humanity.

    • @FredrickTesla
      @FredrickTesla 8 лет назад +59

+Katie Wahl In order to understand how and why Neo can do his matrix magic, you have to understand how computer systems work, and kind of how they would think. Computers see humans as programs, and Neo essentially is a program that has admin access. As 'the one' designated by the system, he has all the rights and privileges granted to machine programs that are allowed into the matrix, he just isn't told what those rights are. Since he doesn't know, he kind of has to find them out himself, thus he learns to fly, to enter programs and destroy them, and be generally invincible cause he tries it out. Also, he sees the code of the matrix while he's in it, much like the machines. When you give programs high end permissions like that, it's system wide though. That is why he can go against the matrix's rules, even to the point of destroying other processes created by other admin programs (agents, the merovingian's thugs.) Now if you take into account that the machine programs in the matrix are not simply functions of the matrix, but fully developed A.I. beings that simply go into the matrix to operate (Merovingian, Ghost twins, the Train Man) and may sometimes leave it, that means the permissions granted to Neo are granted by the same systems that allow the AIs to live, not just the ones that make up the Matrix. So in effect, even when he's outside the matrix, those same systems are controlling the Sentinels, and Neo still has admin rights on them too. Now, how he's able to send the signal to them in the real world, that's still completely unexplained, dude didn't seem to have a wi-fi antenna sticking out of him last time I watched.

  • @darcraven01

first of all, the "being born in the matrix" is part of back story for the original "One".. neo would be the 6th reincarnation of the "one". and to that point, neo was originally not born in it, but was also not originally the one.. when he died and was reborn, that was when he became the one. The oracle originally that neo was not the one.. "not yet, anyways", and then she also said something about him "having the gift" but something was missing.. then he died and was reborn.. "born in the matrix"
although... with you're second video about the "real world" being apart of the matrix, that would mean that Neo would have been born within the matrix to begin with, making this whole point invalid on both sides... *shrugs*
the only thing that would make sense for this theory would be that Neo is the One, but the code that he had that needed put back into the source was moved into into agent smith, which caused his "corruption" turning him into the virus. without that instance, agent smith would never have been able to change the matrix.

Linus Baker honestly dont remember... wasn't paying 100% attention to every word in his videos (i often end having to rewatch them as im writting commens.. lol) but yeah, as it stands, the only way i could see this theory working is that both neo and agent smith were "the one"... neo, being the actual "The One", loses the code to agent smith when he jumps inside him, and the code corrupts smith and turns him into a sudo "the one"...
im sure if i actually sat down i and worked on my own version of these theories i could merge them and make them work... but i just dont wanna think that hard on. rofl

    • @linusbaker5963
      @linusbaker5963 8 лет назад +6

darcraven01 Very valid points. However, it is fairly obvious that the Oracle had manipulated the code to some degree so that Neo or Smith could not be the One without one another. Honestly, I haven't watched these movies in a long time, but I personally think that the prophecy does not necessary mean much since this is the sixth incarnation.
I agree with you on the being reborn in the matrix at the end of the first movie, and with Smith being given godlike powers through Neo's weird tackle thing. However, Smith did express human desires and emotions earlier on in the movie, and it could be in fact this that the Oracle implemented to be the impetus of the trilogy's events.
But, if Zion was just another tier of the Matrix, then there is no knowing for certain if anybody in the Matrix is in fact human. There's really no way to conclude the humanity of any character, considering how the Oracle expresses the desire of change, very much a human nature and completely counter-intuitive to a computer program to want such a thing. The only thing that makes a character "real" or not in the Matrix is by how many versions or tiers of the Matrix they have been in, with Neo and Morpheus and other Zionians being more real than the typical 1999-era simulation population, and programs such as Smith, the Oracle, and the Architect being more real than the Zionians.
I personally believe that the Matrix and its enslavement is a sort of metaphor for the Internet, and not something the machines (who only exist in the Zion tier and therefore are less real than Neo and the Zionians) built to power their processors. I say this because of the way the Internet can mean so much to a lot of people, and because the Architect has a striking resemblance to Vincent Cerf. But I admittedly am a moron.

    • @darcraven01
      @darcraven01 8 лет назад +3

Linus Baker yeah the more we analyse the movies, the more its beginning to look like the whole "war against the machines" is just a program to distract those in zion rather than actually be a threat. kind of makes you wonder what the real purpose of the matrix is.

I love this theory, but there's one problem with it: The Architect makes it "clear" that The One has gone through this 5 previous times, and if I recall correctly, Morpheus seemed to have implied of The One having died soon after freeing the first of them. I mean, considering how The Oracle prophesized The One's return and no one is at all puzzled why Neo has no knowledge of The Matrix or memories stretching back as far as "Matrix v1.0". The story -- both as a movie and the prophesy's versamillitude -- lies heavily on a believe that The One reincarnates, like The Avatar or The Dalai Lama, which would align well with the The Wachowskis' fusion blend of Eastern/Western themes.
While I'm inclined to believe it's not Neo, either, I also don't believe it's Agent Smith, either. Going back to my previous point: Agent Smith recalls Matrix v1.0, but yet he doesn't remember being The One, having to return to The Source, and having rebooted The Matrix 5 other times? It seems kinda odd, don't you think?
Maybe The One is someone else, entirely... Hummm...
MattPatt also mentions how Agent Smith is the anamoly based on the fact he's going against his programming; however, aren't there others? The Merovingian was a crimelord -- prior to "The Matrix Ressurection" -- who harbored exiled programs like The Keymaker. In fact, every program within The Merovingian's employ is rogue, technically, since they're each going against what's expected of them. (Granted, I have programs on my computer who won't listen to me all the time, so maybe this isn't that strong an argument. lol)

One could argue that the reason Smith explodes at the end of the 3rd movie is because by assimilating Neo, he also assimilates Neo's code.
The matrix is green, love is often symbolized with fire in the movie. How does Neo see the machines once he's blind ? Yellow. He loves the machines and learns that the machines also love humans, he understands that there must be peace, osmosis between humanity and the machines. And by implanting this sparkle of love and hope into Smith which infected the entirety of the matrix, it reloads it completely.
    Making Neo the actual one.
There's no final answer to this because the Wachovski never wanted it. You can analyse the movie whichever way you want, it'll somehow fit your point of view. This is why the first movie is genius, but the TRILOGY is a masterpiece.

Let me share my personal theory on this (if I already posted it please disregard)
Neo was the 6th incarnation of the one, so the calculations running the Matrix have been imperfect at least five prior times. Since the Architect and the Oracle have been running the Matrix, it would fall to then to figure out a way to assimilate this constant remainder into the program to achieve perfection. Smith was already slightly rebellious, which made him the perfect candidate to be upgraded by Neo taking over his host body and purging him. This momentary connection with Neo elevated Smith into what I theorize is a Negative One. A simple adjustment of the equation to reconcile the anomaly with the rest of the program. Once Neo jumped into Smith, both of their fates were intertwined, leading to the final confrontation and both anomalies being returned to the source.

The monitor in the architects room clearly show Neo in his earlier versions.
Meaning Neo was born in the matrix and he is the anomaly hence why he keeps coming back.
Him changing the matrix is like Morpheus demonstrated in the simulation, it's not physically changing things. But breaking things like physics. Something a logic bound computer can't do. So when he flies or stops bullets in mid air he is breaking (changing) the system.
But as far as the end.... Idk. These are very solid reasons for smith. But that doesn't count out Neo. And it doesn't explain why he has the powers he does.
I think perhaps "The One" represents them both. When the oracle says "he is everything you aren't" they are polar opposites, but in that they are part of the same puzzle. Like yin and yang.
I think they are both two halves of "The One"
    But that's just a theory.

+EdgeOf1996 im not here to argue... but an observation i had the first time thru that was shot down by people beliveing the first line of your comment.
if we are watching the 6th one... why are we not looking at 5 moniters? These arent the same thing over and over again... and slowly during the conversation the neo's on the video respond in a similar fashion. to at the very last pert... they all mirror neo's actions and quietly turn and walk towards the door that only neo made. Not the choice that the other 5 have made.
I don't think this is the other neo's... i think this is is the architect's view of the conversation. Think of it liek a program... there are many different results that can happen at any given point in time... you prompt a question, what is the likelihood of a given response. "whats 1+1?" you may end up with "2" or "7" or "potato" he is simply going thru the conversation, learning, and throwing out the variables in order to understand who it is he is talking to. The obvous question was prompted immediately, and the obvious question is mirrored with all the other monitors. Then the scene shows drastically different monitors untill neo says the word "choice" and the architect understood what page neo was on. Remember when neo says "Bull#@$%" the monitors all respond in kind... but they all respond differently, reacting in different severity.
In short, the monitors show the variables that neo could chose to do in the conversation.
But this is also why this movie is so good... that these debates can happen well after the movie is out of the relm of "SPOILERZ OMGZ"

+EdgeOf1996 That could have been all part of the lie, like Matpat said and the first film showed. Neo was born outside of the Matrix, sure their are reincarnations which the tvs "showed" but did you notice how many Neos were their? Too many in the TVs in the Architect's room when their have been 5 previous versions of The Matrix till the one Neo was Born on. Since it was the Architect he could have been showing a shit ton of Neo's split mixed feelings all at once with each sentence. While "Physical" Neo wasn't speaking a majority of Neo's did and even if Neo was born in the Matrix at one point like Smith he would have learned The Master plan and rebelled and Neo wouldn't have been so shocked at what The Architect said. Also consider Neo KNEW the moment he killed one Smith by going inside him that threw his computer code Neo learned the Truth as well which was why "Physical" Neo wasn't surprised at The Architect's speech but his mind in a lot of ways was. Its like learning the Truth of a big plot point of a book or game or movie...or anything really. Your excited about a reveal but at the same time question it and ask many other questions in your mind.

If you would have watched the directors Dvd commentary you would have found out that Neo is and is not the one and smith is and is not the one. They are both halfs of the yin yang energies and when Smith finally assimilates Neo at the end of the boss fight in the third movie they together become "the one."

By the series logic, Neo is the balance to Agent Smith. One cancels the other. Without each other they get too powerful and the Matrix unbalanced. However when Neo sacrificed himself for a moment there was balance, since as you put it, he had corrected his code after his fight with Neo in the first movie.
They are opposites that need the other alive, particularly after they have their "awakening" regarding the Matrix.

The only thing I can think that contrasts the theory is trinity being in love with the one. Although she could have just said that knowing she would fall in love with Neo which served the purpose of convincing everyone of the ruse that Neo was the one. Even after Smith absorbs the oracle, and knows he's the one, he can only "see past the choices we (he) understand(s)", so he knows he'll absorb Neo but can't see past that cos he doesn't understand what the choice really implies.
Last thing that really doesn't fit is how he would have liberated the first humans seeing he can't leave the matrix without a human already being outside. I don't know, could be but I'm on the fence on this one

Matrix is the equation that needed to be balanced said the oracle. Imagine it as x=x. To balance it add 1 on both sides(smith and neo). It was not balanced with them, hence they both die and the equation is back at starting stage, hence the reload. And same thing happens in a never ending loop because man could never make a perfect machine as god could not create us. Accept each others people and wake up!

It was the Oracle who said it, but Neo and Smith do not combine to equal 1... remember she said Smith was Neo's opposite, his negative, so one is +1 and the other is -1 making -1 added to the remainder +1 yielding the balanced equation.
      1 - 1 + Balanced Equation = Balanced Equation

What about the theory about the Merovingian being a past "one?"
He was once like Neo Persephone said. He can change the code, as Neo saw it was different in the elevator from the rest of the Matrix code. Maybe he was the first to set them free, before dying/changing into Merv?

  • @RaviBMaharaj
    @RaviBMaharaj 7 лет назад +88

+The Film Theorists hate to burst your bubble, but there's another theory to wrap your minds around. What if Both Neo and Smith are the One? How you ask? Simple. When Neo goes to visit the Oracle in the first movie she tells him that he isn't the one but he has the gift and he's waiting on something. Then the fight for Morpehus takes place and he ends up getting shot, and presumably killed by Smith. But here's the thing, while many people think Neo imprinted some of his code on Smith when he dived into him, it's the other way around. The thing that Neo was waiting on to become the One was for Smith to imprint his code into Neo. And Smith does that when he shoots him. Because when an agent assimilates a human, their entire code is -re-written into the host body, including clothes, gun and bullets, which are all part of the Agents's code. That's why when Neo gets the code and becomes the One, the very next thing he does is unplug Smith, because the code told him to. And when they merged they became a single entity with the complete code of the One, until they separated back into two entities each with part of the code of the One. That's why in the end, the Machines needed Neo to get assimilated by Agent Smith in order to acquire the entire code of the One, since they could have gotten Smith's code through any other human he had assimilated that was still plugged in to the matrix. Really want to hear your thoughts on this.

Little mistakes there. The Oracle never tell Neo that he's not the One. Check that conversation again. The Oracle let Neo say what he think it's true, never confirm or deny it:
Oracle: But... you already know what I'm going to tell you.
      Neo: I'm not The One.
Oracle: Sorry, kid. You got the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something.
That "You got the gift" tells you everything.
