“Roam” should be your next song; great harmony. The B52’s and R.E.M. are both from Athens, Georgia. You need to listen to R.E.M.’s “Shiny Happy People” because Kate Pierson (redhead) sings with Michael Stipe; it is cheesy, too, but fun, and they sound great together.
I was going to suggest that as well. Really, there is a thread with "Cosmic Thing", "Green" (by REM) and "Out of Time". You could take "Stand" or "Pop Song 89" from Green, and plug in the B-52s and it would sound like a B-52s song, for instance. Obviously, they kind of grew up around each other and both take a lot of the same regional inspirations. But yeah, good pick.
B-52s is all cheese (and camp too). That's what makes them great. It was the soundtrack of all the parties in college. The girls vocals are amazing. I would recommend the song Hero Worship. I always loved the vocals in it.
You haven't even scratched the surface with those 2 ladies. They have incredible voices and I have seen them several times live. Their voices were so intense live it would resonate in your chest. Their harmonies are also something to behold. What you really need to know about this song is it comes from their commercially successful era. They started off very quirky...weird even, but you have to check out the early weird stuff to appreciate how they got commercially successful. Oh, and yes, they are ALWAYS fun. A B-52s show was just a party with a few thousand people. Rock Lobster, Planet Claire, Private Idaho, Roam, Channel Z..just for starters.
Channel Z from that album is a great song too. To answer his question, B-52s are always a party. I don't remember a slow song or a deep message song from them. Just great music to dance to.
"Rock Lobster" is definitely my personal favorite and "Roam" is a very close second. I don't pump the volume on this one as much as I used to but it is way too catchy not to love(pun intended).
Terrific fun band with a bunch of fun songs -- "Rock Lobster," "Planet Claire," "Private Idaho," "Deadbeat Club," "Dance This Mess Around" among others. Play them in the car and CRANK IT UP!
The B-52s concerts were the most Fun shows I have ever been to. I've seen them three times and each time they gave it all and the crowd were all in like in this video.
Exactly, and they (pre-covid) were still bringing it. My daughter took me to their show a few years ago, and they had just as much energy and fun going on. I just love them.
One of the official wedding reception songs =) The B52s are a very good pop band. They never pretended to be anything else. "Roam" is another good one.
At the end when the lead singer says, You're what!?!? And the female singer replies, Tin Roof, rusted, this is a reference to an unexpected pregnancy. Bound to happen at the Love Shack 😂 Check out Roam, Rock Lobster or Planet Claire.
This song came out when the band reformed after the 1985 death of their guitar player Ricky Wilson (brother to Cindy Wilson, the blond singer) from complications of AIDS. Fun fact: If you look close enough, you'll see RuPaul's first appearance in film. P.S. I didn't catch it.
I'm so glad you appreciated the vocal range and incredible harmonies of these ladies! They are iconic. Check out their hit Roam. It has a happy message and an infectious sound too. ❤
This was so popular, fun dance song at its time. The females had such harmonies, and they did their voices naturally with out any help from auto tune. FUN FUN FUN!!! tthats what its all about
Planet Claire. When I heard that for the first time I had to stop what I was doing and do a double take on what I was listening to. They have a very unique sound even though in a way its all a call back to the sixties but in a way that it sounded very modern (for the time). Legal Tender and Dance This Mess Around are also very cute songs.
I was a mobile DJ in the 90's, and this was almost always the "Snowball" feature song where I would take the bridal party and use them and the song to build the dance party. Periodically i would yell "Snowball" and everybody on the floor would go out and grab somebody who had to come out and join the dance. it's the kick-starter.
This was one of my old man fav. Cuts. He always played the tunes at parties so this was my , where the hell are you songs. We always found each other. This and Pulling mussels from a shell by Squeeze....
Always loved this song and basically everything the B-52’s have done. I just started listening to their album “Funplex” which I had not heard until recently and it’s almost like I’m discovering them again for the first time even though I first heard them around 1980 at a party on campus at Boston College and the whole place was going nuts to “Rock Lobster” especially during a portion of the song which lyrically calls out to get “down, down, down,”. If you are going to get into B-52’s, then I’d recommend you check “Rock Lobster” our next and try to follow along chronologically so you can hear and also SEE the differences and similarities through the years.
Hell yeah, B-52's! Never was, nor will be a better party band! They came out of the Athens, GA music scene in the late 70's, but this album is their first big mainstream hit. There was a fifth member, Ricky Wilson (brother of the blond woman in red in the video, Cindy), who was the original guitar player and who died of AIDS in 1985. Kieth Strickland, who you see playing guitar in the video was originally the drummer, and Ricky's best friend from childhood. The band members were grief stricken after Ricky's death and went on hiatus until 1989 when they came back with this very autobiographical album. "Deadbeat Club" tells their story the best and was another hit off this album, along with "Roam". Earlier hits when Ricky was still alive included "Rock Lobster" (another party waiting to happen, but much more simple and raw than this), "Song for a Future Generation" (also a fun video), and "Planet Claire" and "Private Idaho". There's a good documentary on the Athens, GA music scene from that late 70's to mid-80's time period that's worth a watch, called 'Athens, GA: Inside/Out'. The B-52's only appear in it a little, but R.E.M. make several appearances. Thanks! Look forward to more B-52's! Peace from SF
This was a great reaction/review....you GET IT! That's way more than most of the reactors to this song! Sometimes you just have to have FUN with your music!
The B52’s are always fun. Love your reactions! On the topic of female vocalists, please do more of Linda Ronstadt. Her musical catalogue is vast and diverse and heavenly!
They have a lot of great obscure tunes also, like "There's a Moon In the Sky", "Hot Lava", "Dirty Back Roads", "52 Girls", and "Devil In My Car" might be my favorite..
Yup, Chod, The B52's are a party band, not afraid to just create some FUN music and put a smile on your face, it's what the world needs right now! Too many artists take themselves way too seriously. Check out their big hits, 'Rock lobster' and 'Roam'
There was a company called Commodore Business Machines back in the 80s that made the Commodore 64 and then the Commodore Amiga 500 to succeed it. They were very popular at the time and made in the US. The motherboard in the 500 was called "Rock Lobster" after a B52 hit song. I remember tearing one down to replace a chip in it and finding that on the board and laughing my ass off. Great days when America still built things.
I highly recommend the B-52’s “Channel Z” if you’re looking for a great darkly sarcastic little twist on their usual infectious vibe. Fantastic hook, great vocals, killer beat, and a touch of post-apocalypse. 🎉🥶😆
great party music back in the day when i was a teen early 20s. I listened too more metal hard stuff but always had a soft spot for the B52s. Great stuff for the road. They got a few tunes. Great times with the B52s playin in the background.
Natural voices ...are the best voices. Hate me if y'all want....but nobody can recreate your voice. To me...that is the most unique instrument. The human voice😁
You just pretty much described most 80's music. It grabs you. I hated this stuff when it was new, but I'm finding myself more and more, listening to it now. And you're right, the 80's fashions were great. I didn't dress like that (we were still hippies), but a lot of people did.
But they were dressing “retro”....those hairdos on the ladies were from the early sixties...and all the bright colors? Sixties again....I’m 74...I lived it. All I remember about the clothes from the eighties were the giant shoulder pads! 😄
giggles...You could ask most anyone, "Hey do ya like das song [Love Shack]" und they say Naaa, but when it comes on das radio they beboppin to it every time. :-) It ist a happy song that ya simply have to love no matter what ya say to people's face.
I am 64..I have heard this song ....hundreds of times...and...I NEVER get tired of it!!!
I have probably done it 100 times at karaoke LOL Me and my friends have got the whole bar dancing singing this song and we have cleared a bar HA! LOL
Early 80s fashion: Bright colors w/casual shoes. A 1982 time capsule fr.
Same age yup many times
Private Idaho, Rock Lobster, Roam, Planet Claire are all good songs.
Also Legal Tender, Channel Z, and Dance This Mess Around
I also like Quiche Lorraine and Mesopotamia.
Another vote for “dance this mess around” and “planet Claire“
All great, I would also add Dead Beat Club
And 52 Girls!
Rock Lobster is another fun one!
As a former mobile DJ, this was one of those songs that would pack the floor, regardless of age. Pure fun.
Along with "Whoops up side ya head" everyone doing the rowboat thing on the floor LOL
I love that RuPaul is at the Love Shack.
Widely regarded as one of America’s best party bands.
The B-52's cannot be denied.
Or defined.
100% agree with this comment!
I was going to suggest that as well. Really, there is a thread with "Cosmic Thing", "Green" (by REM) and "Out of Time". because of this song Shaq cannot sign any letter with LOVE.
I see what you did there.
B-52s is all cheese (and camp too). That's what makes them great. It was the soundtrack of all the parties in college. The girls vocals are amazing. I would recommend the song Hero Worship. I always loved the vocals in it.

It's definitely not cheesy, it's very unique to the B-52s' style...This is immediately identifiable as them and pure joy and originality :-)
Roam was a song released around the same time as Love Shack. The ladies are lead singers with great harmonizing.
Roam really is a beautiful song.
Channel Z from that album is a great song too. To answer his question, B-52s are always a party. I don't remember a slow song or a deep message song from them. Just great music to dance to.
Yes, Roam is great!!
"Rock Lobster" is definitely my personal favorite and "Roam" is a very close second. I don't pump the volume on this one as much as I used to but it is way too catchy not to love(pun intended).

Yep!💜
THAT cracked me up! And it's true about that air!! LOL
One of my personal favorites is Quiche Lorraine.
Give Me Back My Man showcases the ladies voices very well
Anyone who's ever been to a karaoke night had a 99% chance of hearing and/or singing this song!! 🙋♀️
This is sort of a throwback to the 60s Band. Dance, Funk, and feel good music. Great stuff.
Great band. They deserve more listening. You're right, the female vocals are awesome.
when it comes on the volume goes up and everybody sings along
One of the official wedding reception songs =) The B52s are a very good pop band. They never pretended to be anything else. "Roam" is another good one.
Roam was another great song from this band.
Now that you've listened to this, you should listen to REM "Shiny Happy People". The redhead sang on that song as well.
Because you like this you may also like "Groove Is In The Heart" by Deeelite, and "Move Your Feet live" by Junior Senior.
Check out Roam... the ladies sound awesome on that one.
Kate Pierson (B-52's) sings with R.E.M. 'Shiny Happy People'
At the end when the lead singer says, You're what!?!? And the female singer replies, Tin Roof, rusted, this is a reference to an unexpected pregnancy. Bound to happen at the Love Shack 😂
Check out Roam, Rock Lobster or Planet Claire.
Chod, You'll love Kate Pierson (the redhead) in the official music video for R.E.M.'s "Shiny Happy People". Both groups are from Athens, GA.
Everybody liked this song and they were a known commodity when it came out.
"Channel Z" is my favorite B-52s song. Worth a listen some day.
Kate Pierson delivers the goods! Listen to her sing Junebug and Give Me Back My Man! Those 2 tracks really showcase her vocal talents!
Cindy sings give me back my man
I love Junebug!
this song is pure joy.
From their biggest album called Cosmic Thing. A really fantastic album!
They were a bunch of art students/musicians out of Georgia having fun!
This band is fantastic. One of those rare bands with their own sound.
The B52s are 80's, cheesy fun!
I'm so glad you appreciated the vocal range and incredible harmonies of these ladies! They are iconic. Check out their hit Roam. It has a happy message and an infectious sound too. ❤
love love love this band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......great choice
When the juke box has had too much to drink, you get the B-52s. Wicked fun...
"Rock Lobster"!!
Played at millions of wedding wedding celebrations including my own. Best song. One of my all-time favorites.
The B-52's concerts were always a big ol' fun, crazy dance party. Being in a crowd and joining in the "Bang-bang" call and response was a high point.
"Roam" really showcases their vocals, although they are always amazing. I've seen them live, and it's just like this video. So much talent and energy.
Love Shack - fun stuff :) Thanks...needed to smile tonight!
This was so popular, fun dance song at its time. The females had such harmonies, and they did their voices naturally with out any help from auto tune. FUN FUN FUN!!! tthats what its all about
3:07 it's RuPaul!
Cheesy? Cheesy camp was fully intended! This is not even my style of music, but it's so damn catchy, it vacuumed me in from the time I first heard it.
Impossible to stay in a bad mood with this song playing! I love it!!!!
Saw them live in San Diego, New Year's Eve 1985. It was outrageous.
Planet Claire. When I heard that for the first time I had to stop what I was doing and do a double take on what I was listening to. They have a very unique sound even though in a way its all a call back to the sixties but in a way that it sounded very modern (for the time). This is, what we called, a FeelGood song.....

Has anybody seen a dog dyed dark green ? Lol love these guy's since I was a teenager and now I'm almost 60 and I still blast their music...♡

Impossible to not love the energy of this infectious groove.
Every song on the Cosmic Thing album is really good. Also check "Give Me Back My Man".
The B-52s are nothing but FUN. Every song.
They are all about having fun. Roam, Give Me Back My Man, 53 Miles West of Venus & Rock Lobster.
Saw them twice, Toronto and San Bernardino, yumm
The most fun band ever, number 1 party starters
Check out most of their songs... best rhythm guitar player ever... underrated because its "fun" music...

The B-52's girls sound great in "Roam".
Anything off their first two albums is killer. Saw them in concert twice. Great show. They Might Be Giants is another great 80s band.
This was a great reaction/review....you GET IT! That's way more than most of the reactors to this song! Sometimes you just have to have FUN with your music!
another 64 here, this was a jam for every one back in the day. this and hay mickie, these two were played everywhere.
The B52’s are always fun. Love your reactions! On the topic of female vocalists, please do more of Linda Ronstadt. Her musical catalogue is vast and diverse and heavenly!
"Roam" shows off their vocals nicely.
you nailed it! these girls have PIPES! It's all about FUN.Keep movin' Keep groovin'
This song is about a Swingers Club, the : Tin Roof Rusted , line is she is Prego. Rock Lobster was a Staple of the Dr. Demento Show from the 80's.
Give me back my man... One of the B52 Bangers... Beautiful voices
I was listening to Dance This Mess Around today!! There's A Monster In My Pants is hysterical!!
They have a lot of great obscure tunes also, like "There's a Moon In the Sky", "Hot Lava", "Dirty Back Roads", "52 Girls", and "Devil In My Car" might be my favorite..

Finally, someone has done a reaction to one of the greatest bands of all time. Doesn't get any more fun than them. Thanks, Wilburn.
"Roam" is a great, upbeat song by them!!!
It’s a good time song. Enjoy! Dance! You still be smiling long after it’s over!
This is a deep and fun rabbit hole to investigate
I highly recommend the B-52’s “Channel Z” if you’re looking for a great darkly sarcastic little twist on their usual infectious vibe. Fantastic hook, great vocals, killer beat, and a touch of post-apocalypse. 🎉🥶😆
The great Zachary Alford laying down a killer beat on drum.
Ha Ha next the B - 52's: 'Planet Claire' Such good vocal !!!
LOVE this band! And this, from total Rush fan!!..
Check out Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" for a similarly stylish sound.
First listening to Planet Claire felt like Alien Music from outer space. It was really fantastic.
There is also an extended version of Love Shack which was released at the same time as this single edit version.
Wedding receptions its universal
I have said it before and I will say it again. I so appreciate that you don't talk over the video or pause it. It's very refreshing. Thank you.
great party music back in the day when i was a teen early 20s. I listened too more metal hard stuff but always had a soft spot for the B52s. Great stuff for the road. They got a few tunes. Great times with the B52s playin in the background.

Its suppose to be cheesy!! Thats the point!!😆😆🎶🎶💜 Back in the day when this song came on at a bar...everybody hit the floor!! So much fun!!

It ist a happy song that ya simply have to love no matter what ya say to people's face.
Watch for Rupaul in this video right about 3:06! Have to listen to Rock Lobster!
You mentioned their vocal ranges, you'll love Rock Lobster, they do some crazy stuff with their voices on that one.
