This is my adult tarantula - she is female. Her name is Acanthoscurria geniculata and this species is commonly knows as Brazilian whiteknee tarantula or Whitebanded Tarantula. This one is really big one and I fed her using one mouse. She striked quickly and the mouse had no chance to survive. In this video you can see how this tarantula cought the mouse and then how it looked when she was eating it. It took more than 33 hours to eat the whole mouse. I reccomend you to read everything and consider if you want to see brutal (but natural) process of tarantula's eating.

alright, since you want to dip into conversations in a video you could've totally avoided if you didn't like the idea of a small furry animal being hunted by a big furry spider, by READING THE TITLE, i will take some time to school you. be sure to take notes, because that's totally the same thing! NOT. 🤡🤡🤡 if i have a pet pitbull, sure, yeah, i totally raise kittens strictly for feeding and use them as live treats for my dog instead of buying dog food and things meant for dogs as treats (sarcasm, just incase you can't tell). fun fact, tarantulas pretty much NEED to hunt live food, food that creates vibrations since they're BLIND and rely on movement to hunt. dogs don't need that, they can see and smell their food just fine, and don't need anyone to dangle a kitten in front of them to fuel your cruel (and very unrealistic!) example. a tarantula's diet isn't strictly mice, those are more of treats for the bigger spiders, and really are more offered maybe a few times during a T's life or sometimes not at all. given that you were able to read my comment above, i trust that you can process this information, but i doubt you have the brain capacity to do research, seeing that you proposed such a dumb argument.

From a stance blindly formed by the ignorance of cultural biases/collective ego, it isn't because most people like cats more than rodents.
My point was that this is unnecessary suffering, the mouses suffering has no purpose other than to entertain someone, this is no different than brutal dogfighting rings, it has nothing to do with conserving the balance of an ecosystem. If you buy a spider and feed it a mouse, you are making a philosophical statement that the spider has more value than the mouse, which has no objective basis.

The mouse could kill the spider easy with just one bite, feeding rodents to tarantulas isnt natural (as the dude posting this claimed), since spiders usually feed on other inverts.
The mouse will rott quickly, which adds another health risk for the spider and the enclousure.
Additionally, tarantula venom is made for inverts and does its best work on those animals. Rodents/mamals work way different and will react different to the venom.
Can big spiders kill a mouse anyway amd proceed to eat it? Yes. Is it natural? Well maaaybe to a degree. Is it necessary? 100% not. Is it cruel? Yes again.
Where i live, you could even go to jail for doing stupid shit like this, since we banned the feeding of living animals (inverts more or less excluded) for animal cruelty reasons.
Worst then all of the above, the dude makes people believe this is somewhat normal if you keep Tarantulas. It is 100% not, an no responsible keeper would do shit like this. Just because of the risk for the T alone. Causing non needed suffering to other sentient beeings just to show off online is just the next step towards beeing a hughe asshole.

To anyone complaining, you obviously don't understand the course of nature. This is to feed the tarantula. Not to be cool or abuse the rat. This happens 24/7 in the wilderness, and this is just in captivity. I would just call this supported nature. You can't stop a tarantula from eating a "tarantula-preferred delicacy". Good day.
Little note: wish I could've gotten a better view of the rat getting eaten. I know that It would be nearly impossible without disturbing the tarantula and getting bitten, but I wish there was a way to get a view of that.

something between 5 to 10 gallons should be absolutely sufficient for an adult tarantula. good rule of thumb is to use double the leg span for width and depth. if i had to take a wild guess for the height, i'd suggest about 1-2 times the leg span for the height above ground for terrestrial tarantulas, 2-3 times for arboreal tarantulas. just fill the terrarium with enough substrate until you're happy with the height. try and find out the average leg span of an adult of your species for this.
also don't use fish tanks because you should have air circulating through the terrarium from holes in the front through holes in the top. check out tarantula youtubers like "The Dark Den" to see how they build their enclosures, and happy keeping!

I just moved my b.hamorii into a 6qt tote and am about to do the same with my l.parahybana, though I will probably go ahead and do a 15qt for it. That thing is a monster. I will check that out. mercury3989 Why would you kill multiple small animals when you can kill 1 big one? Feeder mice only live for about 2 months before they die due to their inbred genes. Things like grasshoppers actually have longer lives. So not only are you killing multiple animals to save 1, you're taking away more life as well. Think a little bit, please. Cause it sounds like the only reason you're getting all tipsy is because mice are cute and grasshoppers are ugly.
Adult hissing roaches are perfectly fine for large Tarantula's! No need to feed them mice! This T's abdomen is still pretty big! There was No need to feed the spider at this point anyway!

I have a question,anyone answer. I recently cleaned out and changed my Lasiodora parahybanas enclosure. I put a cork bark hide with a little bit of moss here and there and a small artificial plant. She is going crazy burrowing under her hide and the bottom of it is just the exposed glass, she’s digging all around and I’m kind of concerned that the substrate is going to collapse on her.😬
