LYRICS
From downtown Dallas to a cabin on the coast
From the shadow of the towers to the sun in Ohio
From the bottom of a bottle to the palazzo
Who knows where the road goes
From the Blackfoot River to White Sands, New Mexico
From Salt Lake City to my honey in Tupelo
From the barroom floor to the bardo
Who knows where the road goes
Oh you could have died that day
Back when you thought none of this was worth it
When you thought everything was broken
Oh you didn't know yet
Someday you'd watch this big green river flow
Who knows where the road goes
From the Great Divide to the gulf of Mexico
From the underpass to the private bungalow
From the Grand Hotel to the one in Psycho
Who knows where the road goes
I'm so glad you decided to stick around
Look what you found
Look at all the beautiful things you found
Oh you could have died that day
Back when you thought none of this was worth it
When you thought everything was broken
Oh you didn't know yet
Someday you'd watch this big green river flow
Who knows where the road goes

WOW!!!! I was not expecting to see the 9-year-old me in this music video (I'm the kid shown from 1:21-1:23). I met you all at your sound check at the Bluebird Theater in Denver, back in '98 or '99, thanks to my mom (Kristin) who was a big fan of yours starting back in Dallas. I still remember playing Ken's guitar and thought you all were the coolest people in the world. Your music has been a crucial part of my life. Here I am 25 years later, and I am singer-songwriter and actor myself and have my own wife and 10-month-old daughter now. Life is so profound, and I am so grateful to have had your music in my life all of these years. I so hope to meet you again! Can't wait to see you in Denver this April 20th!!! Thank you all so much!!! Love, Christopher Robin
You crushed your cameo!
👍☃️⛷️
awesome. i was at the show and ill be there on the 20th.
Quit trying to shamelessly promote yourself
And to complete the circle, my son is there at 2:57 - 2:58, in the front row at the London gig at the end of last year - joy for the generations!
@@whiteyfisk9769 He’s sharing a memory. Perhaps don’t be so judgmental and have a quiet moment.
That's my dad's license plate! Glad to have grown up on the Old 97's
Oh I am so very, very old 🤣
Lots of Old 97's fans in PA!
@@quidditchmom1
I feel like I've actually seen it in PA. I have some vague recollection of thinking it was cool and also looked cool on the plate
Rhett, I’m so glad you decided to stick around.
You know it's gonna be a good day when a new Old 97's music video pops up in your notifications.
Exactly! 👍
Totally!
Hell yes it is
Yeah
Who are these guys? Were they in a Bradley Cooper movie? A friend claims to have seen them in Corrado once, at some niteclub, the show when the roof nearly came off. Holy smokes. Barely made it out with a pretty lady. So he tells it. Warned me these guys are dangerous. Though it sounded like rumor or myth so I dismissed it at the time
Old 97s will never get old... even when I'm 97. Real artistry with this combo. Much love.
Damn…. Hitchhike To Rhome, Too Far Too Care and Wreck Your Life were absolutely the anthems of all of my teens and 20’s. Seriously. I can definitely feel this song! Plus, I think I saw pretty much every single one of those shirts that they are wearing at one show or another.
Loved Rhett’s music, smile and high energy tonight at O’Positive Festival Kingston N.Y. ❤❤
The old 97s are my all time favorite band my wife says I’m obsessed with them and I agree best band ever 🤘great song this was a nice surprise for the end of a hectic day
My wife thinks I'm obsessed with them too. I suspect the club is large.
@@canuckowlYep.
I love this song, the clips & the photos. And Peter Buck's magic dust sprinkled over it all didn't hurt one bit.
Old Friends since late 90's times: Thank you, thank you, thank you : )
Righteous
Just discovered this band / song. New favorite song. Tried playing/singing it myself, but always get choked up at some point... this one hits home. Thank you for this song.
Lucky you! You'll love digging into the whole discography.
Thanks for sticking around!
Discovering, fostering, and creating beauty is the purpose of life. Thanks for your part in it.
Right outta high school, Me and my best friend were out on some backroads in my 95 bronco just taking a cruise, back in like 2013, when “big brown eyes” came on Sirius radios outlaw country, and right then hearing them first time i knew it was something special. The next day i was off, and i drove straight into town to F.y.e. And found the album “too far to care” and i don’t think it ever came back out of my cd player lol. Over the years i would see them all over ohio from Cincinnati to Cleveland and learned to play a few of their songs. This music got me through my darkest moments and helped me find a better path. A couple of years ago I proposed at a show with help from the band and i even have an autographed copy of rhetts first childrens book for my daughter. And of course the whole amazing world of alternative country the old 97s opened up for me from drive by truckers to turnpike troubadours. Im so thankful for that one night that they caught my ear
🙏
Wonderful song!. Got a little wet eye there.... LOVE the old footage got me thinking, "wait was I at that show? What about that one?!"
Was a gut punch for me to realize that I was at one of those shows almost 30 years ago.
The band sounds as good as when I first heard their infectious groove last century....long live The Old 97s !!
Played this at my dads funeral. Love you forever dad!!!
Rhett sounds as good as ever.
April is going to be a great month
As an older guy this song hits home looking back on life's road. Nice work guys 👍
Whoa! Talk about a bolt from out of the blue! New tunes from the 97’s - DIG IT……….!!!!!!!
I've been listening to this over and over since I first heard it yesterday. This is the most beautiful new piece of music I've heard in a long time
You guys represent everything I love about music. Great song!!
Thanks for the encouragement... One day at a time.
🤩
Oh man- this takes me back. Been a fan since my first show way back in 1997 in Austin, Texas!❤ The show in Atlanta was amazing and better than ever. Lifer fan until I leave this Earth! ❤
And thank you Ken!!Took our guitar playing son to his first show and is stoked by the guitar pick he scored- to him it’s EPIC ❤
The Old 97's, wow, what an incredibly introspective song about all the winding roads, rivers, and skies we experience, a powerful song of love, loss, life, grieving, despair and contentment. My heart hurts and heals both listening to this Magnum Opus of their seasoned journey. I love the ending instrumentals...sort of reminds me of the Moody Blues ending to "I Know You're Out There Somewhere." Thank you, Old 97's...
Boys. I remember seeing you on your life tour in Champaign illinois. Mark from Indy. You put me on the guest list, took me backstage before the show and then let me put a song on the set list. Old familiar steam. I was in heaven
❤
I’m glad you decided to stick around!
✨
These guys can't stop making great music. The bells in the background. Tremendous.
Also, can you imagine a cross country drive in the back of the truck with Rhett on guitar?
wow wow wow
New Old 97's! I'm flailing.
Good job boys. And nice video too. The band is in their 4th decade together and still cruising along. 👏👏
So many memories of Old 97 shows, in the front row, ducking Ken's guitar antics!

That Mobil Station made into Old 97s is just 🤌
Viva old 97s
I first heard the Old 97's when a friend bought me Satellite Rides as a going away present when I moved to Austin in 2001 and I've been a fan ever since. This band is a treasure trove of American music and this song is great, looking forward to the new album!
What a pleasant tune! I listen over and over again!
Such a powerful song on the importance of mental health.
Just terrific songwriting. Thank you for a memorable piece of music.
See yall at TIPITINA'S !!!!!! NOLA🎉
Reminds me of seeing them at Fitzgeralds in 1999. And many times since. The soundtrack to my post youth.
Reminds me of how long it's been since those shows in Knoxville way back in '96 🥲
Wrecked in Montana... Missoula and Bozeman shows were stellar... 30 years in and you fellas still bring it.... thanks so much! Cheers!
What an amazing song. I needed to hear this. Thank you
This video moves my soul. I saw them in Dallas back in the 90’s…..good memories.
Feels like listening to you when I was 21. Love you guys
I always will love this band. Come on back to Louisville fellas. Be safe on that road.
So glad they are still around and with fresh new music that’s as good as ever
Catchy tune--Old 97's never disappoints!

😅
Great video, great song, great band
saw Kenny Foster last night and loved this song immediately 🖤✨
Glad you stuck around, Rhett. Even if everything seemed like it was broken
Seen them twice they play tight like the kinks Rhett's compositions are work of art
That Gibson!
This takes me back with boy John Lee ❤
old 97s 4ever!!!
Damn beautiful song, this is a good year to get back to the Old 97's & Rhett's music, so many great songs & albums, gonna take a time machine & an 18 wheel tractor trailer, now where's that release date & track list!
Love these faces!
I can picture Murry walking into that Old 97 gas station and buying road snacks for the band. Nice job fellas! Look forward to the album. See you at the Aladdin
I love this! Listening reminds me of the two times I saw your band way back when in San Francisco. The first time (I think...) was a record release at Ameba Records on Height Street, the next time was at an outdoor concert on an Embarcadero Pier next to the Bay Bridge. I was fortunate to meet you guys both times. Awesome music then, awesome now! Cheers! ✌️
Awesome song. Fantastic video! 👍👍👍👍
Nice work. Great song. Shout out from Danville, VA.
What an awesome surprise. Excellent song!
Nicely done, Rhett & Co.. Great use of the word Bardo, and, more important, a real sense of the near-loss of someone dear and the ephemeral nature of all of this. Xx
Wow, that hit me in the feels!
Oh gotdang! Let the road lead to Tucson, Arizona, please.❤ I need you
One of my absolute favorite bands of all time. Nice work and congratulations gentlemen. Looking forward to seeing y'all when you pass through the Northeast.
Great song, Beautiful video, guys!
GREAT video/Great song 👍
That's awesome to see yourself again! Song is great too.
This put a much needed smile on my face. Thanks
Great song, and keeps getting better. Great lyrics, and lovely (E-Bow?) guitar?
Nice work. I like it! See you guys agin in Morro Bay soon!
Wonderful song!
Yup today was a good day
SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!! Please come back to Austin! We're dying to see you again.
Played on Sunday Jukebox, March 17, 2024 BeFM ~ Busan, South Korea
Lovely, lovely stuff! Cannot wait to hear another amazing album from you guys. Also, i declare, by the power vested in me, that the Old 97's are all officially honorary Pennsylvanians.
I have nothing against this band, but a real Pennsylvanian wouldn't be caught dead singing about Ohio.
Really digging the new album. Solid work.
very good stuff :D keep on rockin'
It’s fantastic!
Love it 🎶 🎧
Awesome as usual!
I was today years old when I found this band exist and that the singer of my favorite Come Around is the bandleader
Come to Dallas. I loved this!
I love this Band! Been seeing shows since the late 90s!
